This is my first (likely only ever) comment on any (of the many many) podcasts I have (and will) listened to because commenting on anything is just not my thing. Born across the pond in the 1960's, the last 30 years of my career has involved accidentally sharing the things that my small life has taught me with generations of would be British nurses in a small corner of the British NHS. I do not own a smart phone, have zero social media presence and would like the 3 of you to know that your willingness to share what you have learnt changes more lives than you could have planned for. Well done and thank you very much from the many you will never meet.
IMO this exchange corrects the adage - Great minds may think alike but they are almost certainly open to other great minds. Generosity, care, dignity, curiosity, showing up are what great minds have.
We deserve more freestyle conversations like that👍😂We want more!🙏The first part was an extreme energetic and funny, and the second had more the only two great thoughts from Brené Brown and Adam Grant. You made our day👋
Thank you, Brené, Adam, and Simon! I learned a lot in these 80 minutes! But what I loved especially, was that you practiced what you say and demonstrated that these things work! Experiencing Simon going from his tired and exhausted state at the beginning to a pretty energised state towards the end, showed me again, that doing something which aligns with your purpose (your Why) can re-energise you, although it is asking energy input! I hope, you Simon, had a wonderfully refreshing night after this!
This is so good; and so important. Please keep doing these. The joy I feel listening to you three laugh, debate, and consider - is truly impactful to my life. And I learn a lot to boot.
Love this in-depth discussion on such a difficult-to-grasp topic in such a lighthearted manner! My humble attempt to describe metacognition is in 3 aspects : 1) be aware that our thinking (and learning) processes involve the use of different sets of systematic, repetitive steps in different situations (I learnt this from Harvard’s Visible Thinking course), 2) be able to keep track of when we are using which sets of steps, and 3) be able to consciously control the use of appropriate sets of steps in certain types of situations. To me, people who are deemed to be “smarter” are simply those who consistently problem solve with ALL 3 components of metacognition. They may not even be aware that they are being metacognitive but I guess no one really cares about metacognition as long as the job gets done (especially in Asia where we value hustling over soul searching). However, I’ve been asking myself these questions : Why are we spending so much resources on improving AI’s metacognition while not paying attention to human metacognition? Wouldn’t we as the human race achieve a lot more if we are more in tune with our own thinking and learning processes? Would improving human’s metacognitive skills help us harness the power of AI more effectively? 😊
Just…WOW! This episode has to be my all time favorite out of all the amazing podcasts I’ve listened to! I LOVE how you leaned in to the unscripted format. I mean, man…isn’t that where the best ideas are born?!! And who doesn’t love to hear Simon’s belly laugh?! Fantastic! So grateful I started my morning like this! Thank you.
I like that discussion about "explaining consequences vs disciplining". It's one of the most valuable of the many lessons I experienced from my parents being foster parents and receiving training (STEP) and passing on that wisdom to me as a foster brother to those that lived with us. My mother especially passed on that nuget regularly, that explaining consequences and the existence of "natural consequences"...it really made no room for "discipline". I could talk about this for hours...it has so many success stories and I try to help others hear about this whenever I can...it seems a way to pass on the wealth.
This was so special and helpful. Y’all are a power duo, both with loads of wisdom and perspective and each person elevated the other, what’s not to love? Please have more convos!!
This conversation feels like when my friends from grad school get together. I appreciate the different ways of thinking about areas of excellence and areas of “growth” (or management).
Understanding people's motivations for their behaviours is also fascinating to me. The level of control needed by narcissists to protect their reputation is unbelievable and incredibly sad.
So I was listening to this on Spotify, and I heard the whole thing around Simon getting mad cos the waiter lied to him. Simon didn’t get mad because it broke his world view, it actually made him feel sad because it sent a message that he doesn’t matter to them.
We are all human beings and every one of us have our own limits, that we should respect. As an introspective person, after a big exposition to people, I need to rest my mind, to process and think about what I have learned from the experience. Then, I get recharged. I consider myself a learner and a loner. 😂 Adam, thank you so much for citing Gallup's studies and findings.❤Self awareness is essencial!🎉
Grateful. It feels as though there has been something aligned in the world when we can hear you 3 speak together again. 💜 When will we hear the group with Dr Shawn Ginwright or Dr Marc Brackett~
it's interesting that I've posted about self-awareness and self-discipline on my LinkedIn a year ago - anyways, have always been a fan of Simon's content ❤
and my take on re-energizing our body when we were overwhelmed or exhausted.. is just to go out and meet people! 9/10 I'll be blown away how rewarding the whole experience it is to me. like u said Simon, human being is a social being.. we just need to practice to be less thinking and to just do it! just show up to other people 🙌
Simon. No one can make you feel dumb or whatever. I.e your financial advisor, it's what you think about yourself, he triggered an unhealed wound in you. Your job is to recognize this and work to heal it. I.e Shadow work.. otherwise I love your work....Thanks ❤
Idk if this resonates when they’re trying to determine the emotion around 37:03 (also cannot name another’s emotion for them), but I think the most accurate word sounds like doubt. To me, doubt is the emotion when someone safe experiences threat of perception. It’s the rapid emotional response of losing connection to the body for protection and discernment. Betrayal would be applicable for someone coming in a declarative stance not open and curious. Betrayal subcategories anger following confusion, but doubt is a deeper cptsd emotional response because it affects reality.
I’m a still attractive, petite woman in my 60s. Was having an interesting conversation with the man I didn’t know in the parking lot putting her groceries away at dusk when you grab me an a bear hug and tried to throw me in his fan locally I used to teach martial arts and self-defense decades ago, and it just clicked in automatic. In less than a second, I had released myself and I could’ve pasted him into the concrete, but why bother? I just walked away, and he said what are you scared of? Turning said I’m not scared. I’m just really disappointed and sad, because he shattered my worldview.
Simon it would be great if you could interview Jim Knight author of of the books Better Conversations and Unmistakable Impact. His 6 Conversations Beliefs, 10 Habits of Better Conversations and Partnership Principles would provide excellent content for at a minimum 3 episodes.
I don’t believe in dependent relationships, I don’t think it’s healthy for a person to be dependent on others. I do believe in independent relationships. There’s a difference between in being irreplaceable and being indispensable, and being dependent. Being independent means you think by yourself. If a person understands their brain, how they think, how it works and understands their cognitive function, they are able to upgrade their cognitive function, they can do great things. Just by understanding yourself.
Timestamp: 36:14 Definitely can validate the weaponized use of shame in the finance and business sector and the unhelpfulness of it, especially in an organizational context of facilitating understanding. No. sense. of. humanizing. at. all.
Hallelujah!!! I’m blessed and favored with $60,000 every week! Now I can afford anything and support the work of God and the church. For Your glory, LORD! HALLELUJAH!
Absolutely! I have heard stories of people who started with little or no knowledge but managed to emerge victorious thanks to Ana Graciela Blackwelder.
I love that conversation like this not only exists but they put them out for us to hear

Love all three of these thought leaders!

What an understated episode….. wouldn’t you just love to have all 3 at a dinner party and just be in their presence. ❤❤❤ Love this…
I really like the book Hidden Potential by Grant. Brene Brown is also very insightful. Braving the Wilderness was an enjoyable read.

Your values + Your behaviour = True Self
Love Simon. Brene and Adam are wonderful… just started to watch.
You gotta LOVE these 3 having a conversation!!!
This was so special and helpful. Y’all are a power duo, both with loads of wisdom and perspective and each person elevated the other, what’s not to love? Please have more convos!!
Hey guys what a great attitude towards this talk. Great energy even if you think you dont have it. It really its contagious
A playful and productive conversation. Learned lots and laughed lots. Mahalo for this, y'all. Fan of you three siblings from another mother.
Being lied to is a there there. It shatters the world view that people are good and generous
What a treat whenever you 3 get together. "So good!"😅👌
This conversation feels like when my friends from grad school get together. I appreciate the different ways of thinking about areas of excellence and areas of “growth” (or management).
Shh!! I feel like I’m eavesdropping on a conference call with awesome leaders. This is amazing
How Simon is single blows my mind! Love him😍
The fact that this convo ain't scripted is fascinating.
I love these guys, I need this right now.
Understanding people's motivations for their behaviours is also fascinating to me. The level of control needed by narcissists to protect their reputation is unbelievable and incredibly sad.
Simon, at your worst, you still the best!
Think about the thinking! I love it! ❤ You three are outstanding, thank you for this brilliant conversation. 🎉
Incredible and important conversation!! The dynamic between the three of you is exemplary!

Thank you❤ .
Really love this so encouraging. Great conversation
Where can I find people like this in my own small town, my own small life? Craving intelligent connection
Super love this trio! :D hahahha learning and laughing so much! Learning has never been this cool
Woaaahhh 3 amazing people
This needs to be video!!
Yeah but sometimes we just need to stay in our pjs with no make up
Great stuff. 3 wise and talented communicators. ❤
I love this episode! Just love it!
For me, it is the thinking about the thinking. And in the McDonald's society, this is unfashionable. It's a struggle.

We appreciate your efforts. Keep working hard.

Is it fair to give this a thumbs down because I hate that there's no video? Amazing conversation, though.

That was a gratitude
Feeling alone substantialy
One sip from my side

This is so entertaining informative free of style... in short I like it...
15:27 willingness to put ego aside for the bennefit of others?

How do you have humility with our being self deprecative?
Simon you are my family

This is what Ana Graciela Blackwelder does, she has changed my life.
After raising up to 60k trading with her, I bought a new house and car here in the US and also paid for my son’s (Oscar) surgery. Glory to God.shalom.
I know Ana Graciela Blackwelder, and I have also had success...
Absolutely! I have heard stories of people who started with little or no knowledge but managed to emerge victorious thanks to Ana Graciela Blackwelder.
Wow, that’s inspiring. How can I contact Ana Graciela Blackwelder?
Ok 20 minutes in, not seeing what this is about. Signing out.
