The version I saw of this song was hilarious, because when Trunchbull says "Dream of a world without children", the actor goes: "Just dream of a world without children. DREEEEEEAM!"
The Trunchbull sounds noticeably more masculine in the London cast recording than the Broadway one, despite being originated by Bertie Carvel in both productions.
I had the pleasure of playing Miss Trunchbull as the first school in Australia to perform Matilda. This is song is an eclectic mix of jazz, opera and David Bowie. My advice to anyone condemned to a similar fate of performing this is down to three things; 1. Perfect the song and it’s lyrics without the voice, then add the voice later. 2. Do not be afraid to speak out to what you cannot do. If your costume is anything like the 15kg heater I wore you’ll need to be aware that “ No, Whilst I can do a flying somersault normally I’m dying in this costume” is something you can say to choreographers. 3. Finally, have fun and stay hydrated. This song takes it out of you but it’ll no doubt be your favourite part of the role. Cheers and have a great time mates. Chookas.
Thank you! I may be soing this song as i am miss Trunchbull in my theatre schools summer school show(i am 12)and i really appreciate any advice so im glad i found this comment. :)
Every now and then this will jump into my head. Tim Minchin at his finest. Then you look at 'I'm Here' I and he really shows his brilliance of the dark.
FINALLY SOMEONE TALKING ABOUT IT!!! im so upset about it because i refuse to listen to the broadway version... i feel like all the charm of the original was taken away in the broadway recording (ESPECIALLY with miracle and loud and telly) hoping to god it gets put back on after the movie comes out on netflix, if not im never gonna recover
@@readywillingcainandable i totally agree!! i definitely prefer this album. i actually think they might have removed it BECAUSE the movie soundtrack just came out, netflix owning the rights and all that.
@@maesicals god its so upsetting, i got super fixated on this musical after our school did it and suddenly one day it's just.. gone and im being forced to listen to the BW version! and yes, that cast is very talented but the original charm of the london version just.. isnt there! ive found that ESPECIALLY with mr and mrs wormwood.. im so glad my school used most of the original script rather than BW. and i can NEVER find london bootlegs on here which makes it worse

I love how the “She’s mad!” is clearly not an objection to the PE, it’s a reaction to… the horses thing

Same lol
ChaosVolt omg same it was sooo funny and all the parents laughed 😂

I saw this live I could't stop laughting with the horses part. Seriously, what a BRILLIANT play. Thank you so mucho for upload this.

Is that a good thing ?????
It's Lewis Well if you consider her character, I'd say yes.
Late response it's because Bertie did the London recording first, and added a more feminine tone to the Broadway version.
Gotta love character development! :)
Christopher Sieber was more masculine.

@PriorCheetah480 Eat! Eat! Eat! EAT!
She's clearly put a lot of thought into this.
@Ulises Hernandez: The Autistic Guy I think OP might have meant she put a lot of thought into the weird horses fantasy lol

What can i say except don't let them steal your horses
Don’t let the throw them away!
I was in Matilda the musical and this song was soooo fun to perform. We got to jump on trampolines!
Really? Well, even if that was quite a while ago, well done to you.
PixelPett thanks :3
No problem!
RachelArtist I'm so jealous! Who did you play?

Awesome, this is one of my favorite songs.
I would love to be in Matilda and as I get older play different characters 😊
Beela Bee me too

when i tell you i SCREAMED when i found out it was gone off of spotify
It hurt my soul when I realized it was the broadway version
Just got trunchbull and ngl I'm excited
Lovely!
Does the counting in this remind anyone else of Billy Elliot? Solidarity?
same choreographer, that's probably why :)
Different composers though, it's the music that's like Billy, never seen the choreography.
Yes 😂 I just did the play as Tony a couple weeks ago
Yes ahahahaha
She's mad.
I read that the same second as they said "shes mad" in the song. hahaha.
AH HAH
AND THERE JUST LIKE I SAID

jasminne mcdonald I’m in this show right now and that’s my line and I’m literally so happy
Don’t let them steal your horses!
Frieza is going off on these kids
I would love to do this as a solo but I think it's written for a bass and not an alto :(
Nah, more a baritone or even tenor :)
Rosa Bradley ms trunchbull is meant for a Baritone that's why men are usually cast as ms trunchbull
GamerGirl 75 I think Cher could be a fantastic trunchbull though.
Nah, I'm a baritone and I can sing this pretty well. Just takes practice to get her accent and the final belt.
I'm an alto and I just got cast as Miss Trunchbull! think the lowest note is a D or E but you could go up on those.

How did it go?
Why does no one talk about the horses segment?
I'm a little worried.
