NIKE PEGASUS 41 vs ADIDAS ADIZERO SL 2 vs PUMA VELOCITY NITRO 3 & ASICS NOVABLAST 4 - EDDBUD
Today another video in the VS THE REST series, a new type of comparison, one running shoe in an out and out battle against many others!
This video compares some popular shoes including the NIKE PEGASUS 41, the ADIDAS ADIZERO SL 2, PUMA VELOCITY NITRO 3 and ASICS NOVABLAST 4.
I score the shoes directly against each other on upper, midsole, outsole and value.
PUMA and ASICS running have sent me the shoes in todays video but they are not vetting my views before my valued viewers get to see them. The other shoes i have purchased with my own cash.

No comments on the shoes. Your increasing "internet maturity" engaging the viewers is superb!! As are your "straight from the heart" comments and evaluations!
Congrats on your hard earned and well deserved growing followers!!!
I appreciate this very much!
First rule of buying a Pegasus, never pay full price
🤣👍🏼
😄😄😄
Or never buy them at all :)
I bought the Novablast 4 after watching reviews of it and Edd definitely influenced my decision! So far I'm about 250km into them. Highlights as and 80kg runner are park run PB 20:30 and a half marathon pb of 1:37:30. Both in the Asics. I will say they hold up extremely well to Australian road running heat and cold and as long as your foot strike is well placed I find they have enough grip on wet pavement and gravel. I just wish I went up a half size as they do give me blisters around the ball of my foot due to tight squeeze. They're too much fun tho when you put in the extra efforts to warrant retiring them. Thank you Edd for being one of my top RUclipsrs!
Glad these are hitting the spot
The durability, stability and price of the Puma would win me over.
Excellent comparison. For my 65 kgs, I prefer: Long distance/easy run= Puma velocity nitro 3. Fartlek, intervalls runs= Adidas SL 2. Like to EDDBUD. Have a great weekend.
Thanks for sharing!
the velocity nitro 2 has better outsole, the mini lugs make it good on light trails
ASICS Novablast 4 for me. I agree about the original 3 Lions from 1996 also. Thankuchen
Classic tune. Listened 3 times this morning already!
The Novablast 4 has become my favorite shoe. Thanks for the comparison video.
My pleasure!
I've run multiple 30+ KM long runs in the NovaBlast V3, and it's pretty similar to the V4, except the V4 has less fun factor to it. Great shoe with tons of versatility.
Really tempted to try the Adidas SL2 since they have finally fixed the heel cup/collar issues seen in most of the recent Adizero line that promoted terrible heel lift. Although I can see me limiting the time on feet in that shoe to 90mins or less.
My SL2’s arrived this morning. Went for the denim blue colourway. Banging!!
They are superb!
Thanks for the honest reviews. Love the fact that in an earlier review you called out the NB Rebel V4 as not perfect while most other reviewers were raving about it without pointing out its faults. I haven’t tried the the Novablast 4 (which seems great apart from the colourways) but the Adidas SL 2 is a pleasant surprise. Kind of like a Boston 12 with a somewhat better/worse (more forgiving) upper without the energy rods. Too bad they didn’t put the SL 2 sole unit in the Supernova Rise’s upper. That would be an ultimate adidas daily trainer.
It’s a good shoe. Not perfect but a pretty good all round option
Every year I say to myself that I must try the Novablast as I've never run in one. And every year I just seem to give them a miss as other shoes tickle my fancy more. I've been looking at picking up a cheap pair of the latest model but then the SL2 comes out of nowhere and for a proper banging price 😂 Personally I wouldn't ever run in a Peg shoe, I have the 39 and use it for circuit training and general gym stuff. Anyway enough rambling, cheers Edd 🍻
It’s changed lots since the v1. Vastly more stable now
SL2 is the G.O.A.T
ASICS NB4 should be first place as you can always opt for trail version, which is the same price if outsole could be improved on? Although could be tad heavier with more outsole.
No contestz SL2 all day Edd 😅
It comes out near the top!
I’m very happy currently with my Mach 6 and Rebel 4. I’m also using up a last pair of Endo Speed 2’s. None of these in the video appeal to me as much. I’m not in the very-long-run phase of my training block so time will tell how these do when I get deeper into the double-digit runs.
The Mach 6 keeps cropping up. Certainly impressed by Hoka options recently.
I can't do the Nikes or Puma because their toe boxes are too low-volume. I haven't tried the Novablasts since version 1 since I didn't like that one very well. I did have the original Adizero SL and it felt good on foot, but was a bit hard under foot. From what I hear, the SL2 is quite a bit softer. I'd probably go for the SL2s, especially when they go on sale. I just bought the Supernova Rise on sale.
Perfect, thanks. I own the SB and Metaspeed Sky Paris. Will buy the NB4, as a forefoot striker, so appreciate the additional foam under foot. Asics are also built to last 👍🏽
My novablast 1’s didn’t last long at all. Maybe the older ASICS
Puma velocity nitro 3 is beast
and only 77€
I've not long ago purchased the Puma Velocity Nitro's and can't fault them! Comfortable and great for my easy runs 👍 the tongue doesn't bother me at all, and am able to slip my feet into them with ease 😄 The Adidas DO look nice though ❤ (shame about the grip)
Maybe NB4 TR is a better option.
The livestream with kofuzi yesterday was fun! And he picked my question 🥳🥳🥳(about the puma elite 3)
Can’t wait to try them. When they finally arrive.
Looking forward to getting the SL2...Hoping it will be a daily version of a Takumi Sen
It’s not far off though a more plush upper
I love my Puma Velocity Nitro 3 ! The second version I disliked , it did jot work for me ... glad I did give Puma a second chance !
I also did not like the Adidas Adizero SL and I'm wondering if I should give a chance for the SL2 or get first the Pegasus 41 !
There are so many great shoes that it is hard to try them all ...
Novablast 4 is too much shoe for me. I had really enjoyed the original and it has become too bulky in the latest version. I think I would enjoy SL2 more when I am in the market for one though I think people on budget or looking a bit more traction should consider VN3. PUMA often has discount deals which can get to 40% from time to time.
They are perhaps the 2 polar opposites.
@@EDDBUD Which ones? NB3 and SL2 or VN3 and SL2?
The foam is plenty and soft in NB3 but while protective and comfortable, sucking my energy. If SL2 is a much more responsive ride, it is the shoe for me. Recently I tried HOKA Mach 6 and really enjoyed its ride and weight.
I know you're a fan of Puma Grip, but in Florida wet roads of summer, I find it a little too much like plastic with it sliding around too much on wet pavement. Much prefer the grip on Adidas shoes.
Been waiting for this video, Edd! Finally picked up a pair of NB4 and eying up the SL2’s
Enjoy!
@@EDDBUD sorry, quick question - What UK size do you take in the Novablast 4 and the SL2? Having difficulty working out best fit/size from charts.
Great comparisons. My rotation on daily at moment is ASICS Superblast, novablast 3, Saucony speed 3, hoka Clifton. 9, adidas adios pro 2, Saucony endorphin pro 3 - think I have enough ? 😂
Thanks for sharing!
I’d be sleeping in the shed with that many 😂
Спасибо за сравнение. 😊👍 нам очень важно ваше мнение🙏😊 Запишите видео о том, в каких кроссовках вы пробежали больше, чем в других и как кроссовки износились.
Glad it was helpful
I actually stop by for the "musical interludes" and sometimes stay for the shoetube.
3 Lions they have a nice jingle for footballers! For runners tho i find Thin Lizzy jailhouse specfically "Emerald" the mystique of this rare track!!
*Also for football trainers footwear i think an upgraded Adi Samba, in the Puma Palermo
Used to love the samba at school. Excellent toe bumper
Love your reviews. They’re pure and simple every time.
Glad you like them!
Like what you did there. 👍🏼
Just stopped by to see your review and give you a big thumbs-up!
Much appreciated!
I saw Adidas SL2 has its midsole a Lightstrike Pro slab sandwiched between Lightstrike 2.0 foam. Do you felt it is true? I have a Boston 11 with hard bricky Lightstrike (same as previous SL) and Boston 12 with much softer Lighstrike 2.
And we know brands may tweak the foams between diferent shoes .... even with same names.
So... does SL2 has the same Lighstrike 2.0 soft foam?
Yeah it’s lightstrike 2.0. Nothing like the original
@@EDDBUD that's sweet 😍
Guess I’ll pickup the SL2 to replace my Novablast 3s in November, hopefully it’s on sale by then
Why no asics cumulus on the list. I still rock 24 version, more than 800km on them
Don’t own it so can’t comment too much
@@EDDBUD its perfect for daily mileage because its comfortable. I prefer it over velocity on longer runs
Perfect vid for comparing Edd. I would've been tempted to get the Novablast 4 but I've read from many that it's still slippery on wet surfaces and it's rainy season now!
Yeah a few suffer from this issue sadly.
Cracking daily trainer but only use mine in the dry. It’s like being on an ice rink when it’s raining or the ground is wet. SL2 incoming so will give them a go
I’ve tried, and tried to use the Peg going back to the 34 and it still feels like the most boring shoe I’ve run in. I have never been excited to run in any model. I have never prescribed to the idea that daily shoes should be unremarkable. Most days it’s hard enough to get out the door and bland, heavy dailies only inspire excuses to stay in bed.
Nikes a bore really
Yes you need something energising sometimes like today. Skyward x was used as my legs were like concrete!
i miss the cumulus 26... ;)
The match that I needed. Thanks
👍🏼👊
Just ordered the Adidas SL2 at about usd90. Hopefully all the hype is justified
It’s a great daily operator
Where??!
The peg 41 is getting way too much hate. I think it’s amazing
they are decent for a nike shoe i guess
Don’t hate it. Just don’t find it that interesting a ride
Vindaloo by Fat Les. Stone cold banger.
100%. Bucket
Wonderful comparisons sir.
Thank you kindly!
Great review Edd!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for your wonderful review from Korea
My pleasure
Another great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Still waiting for 1080 review:) and mizuno neo vista
Ordered the vista
nice comparison video🤩
Glad you liked it
I was a huge fan of Fantasy Football League back in the 90s and The Lightning Seeds were the first band I saw live albeit after Euro 96. I heard The FA weren't too keen on the song and Terry Venables described it as 'a real key tapper'. It didn't work out for England that year, but someone else had a bit more luck around Christmas time ⏱️
Back home. They will be thinking about us.
Great review as usual
I appreciate that
Great review!
Glad you enjoyed it
Sl2 softer than the boston 12?
Yes less rigid too
@@EDDBUD thats sir. Probably wont be stable enough for me then. Love my Bostons was after a more daily option though
SL2 certainly a fun daily shoe. Bizarrely my usual 7.5 UK in adidas was a bit of a toe cruncher. Thrown the box away so left with a short walking option unfortunately. ☹️
Hello, thank you for the video!
Thanks for watching!
Team Puma for me as the most versatile. Road, Sand, Gravel, Track, Gym, Trail.
Works on everything!
Love this review! Great job
Glad you enjoyed it!
Missed the live stream watching now
🥈
Have you heard anything about Puma Liberate 3?
I need a replacement for my adios 8 and Puma looks promising at the moment
No word on a v3 as of yet
@@EDDBUD Unfortunate. V2 is on sale almost everywhere online and never available in my size, so I'm expecting V3 soon
Ssup! Great Video!
Hey, thanks!
For the algo
Much appreciated
Rebel v4?
Not my fav and perhaps not really supportive enough for a daily masher
These videos are so bad for my bank account. I own none of these but I'm curious about each one. 😂
Just keep telling yourself JAS - just a shoe. They won’t run for you and will do the job of a daily trainer
@@richardharvey4216 But..... They're fun!! 😂
It’s tough being buy-curious
Just got my velocity 3 today. Find it much better than the 2s. Only 2mm increase in stack height but feels significantly taller. Upper and fit is much better. These are perfect daily/long run shoes for me. Traditional geometry, not too tall, not too soft, not too firm. Have the Adios 8 for intervals/fartlek.
A do it all shoe that one. Like the Adios 8 as well for a more road feel model
Everyone seems to know the score the winners Novablast 4
It’s close. If you want surface are then the nova is the better shoe
@@EDDBUD my comment was a lyric to be sung ⚽️
@@Formerly-known-as-Steve How could I miss it! Just been listening to that!
You were going to the pub in the late 90s?!! What, were you 12? 🤣
I’m older than I look!
Helpful review! Can you please make a versus video of the best stability shoes?
I have a few in for testing. Will see what I can do
Great video! I HAVE Novablast right now, planning to run maraton in september... I'm 42 and in March my PR on 5km was something 40min 😅
While after lot's of training and geting proper running shoes it is 5km in 29min 😊 maybe somehow with luck and hard runs I'll be able to run in 4 hours or little less...
Support from Italy ! Yo
Just picked up the Adidas SL2. Looking forward to comparing it to Boston 12. Cheers Edd👍
Hope you enjoy it!
I like my rotation of Novablast 3, Saucony endorphin speed 3, and the Glycerin 20. Then I use a pair of Vaporfly’s for a race shoe. These are my favorites right now. I have tried a few other shoes, but these are my favorites at this point. I will probably get the Novablast 4’s, but I am in no rush. I have 2 pairs of the Novablast 3’s. 😎
holding on to my shoe money for the SC Trainer V3, but at $90 the SL2 is tempting
SUPER THANKS
Another very good vid from you :) maybe I am not very good with all the numbers and stacks but it would be helpful if you added which of the shoes are better for forefoot strikers (like me)... I have tried Novablast 3 and with my weight 73 kg it's not so great for 10k+ distances... since I got puma deviate nitro 2 I have no problem with long distance :)... Novablast 3 forces me to run hitting with heels first... but still not feeling very comfortable at the end of run..
Lower drop shoes tend to be better for a forefoot strike. Look for stuff around 4 to 8mm
@@EDDBUD a ha.. thanks a lot.. I knew I could count on you..
Hi Ed, if you need to choose between the adidas and brooks hyperion max, which one do you choose for high tempo training?
Sl2 all the way
Thoughts on mizuno neo vista in comparison with these lot
Don’t have that shoe yet.
novablast looks like wearing boats, they are huge for a daily shoe
They’re not bad plus they feel amazing
In this case don’t try the Superblast. It’s even bigger.
I love the rubbery feel of the Nike React midsole. Im 5'8" 180, dunno if that makes a difference.
The Pegasus is a good daily shoe for me so far. Got better as I got more miles into it
I have the Velocity and it’s a good jack of all trades shoe but not particularly amazing, that bottom layer of EVA a touch too firm for my tastes. I’m keen to try out the SL2 or the Asics NB4 - (but they’re never in stock!) So think I might check out the Adidas…
👊🏼🤖‼️
Much appreciated
How would you compare the SL 2 with the supernova rise? Are they very similar?
Nah very different models. The sl is much more exciting of a shoe
Any tips on discount code for pro direct sports can only find the SL2 in my size on there full at the full £110?
Very few codes for them. Try start fitness or Sportsshoes
SL2s arrive in a couple of hours and will certainly tide me over until the Superblast 2 lands. One difference of opinion that's petty perhaps but worth noting: World in Motion >>>>> Three Lions!
Personally really like the SL2 for long runs (15 miles)
I think for the lighter runner it’s superb for almost anything
@@EDDBUD agree for sure . And for those that don’t like the feeling of a plate under foot
Adidas Adizero SL2 vs NB Rebel v4 for slow runner? And why?
Sl2. The rebel is too unstable
What’s the handsome ASICS on the shelf there Ted?
Had the nimbus up there I think. Novablast 4 too
Yo
🥇
Hi
🥉
Don't really like the Peg line altough they always look good. Other 3 are money.
ngl, novablast 4 doesn't belong to this category of shoes anymore. too plush and high stacked. more of a max cushioned shoe now
Nah it’s fine here. Does the job for daily stuff
Sorry Edd, but at this point in a football calendar it’s pronounce “Eng-er-land!”
Certainly the pronunciation with the track “vindaloo” 🤣
