    Hello Dr. Dan! How are you? I thank you so much for continuing to post such awesome content. My greatest singing problem is tounge root tension. I can feel a stiff tounge under my jaw the higher I sing. Causing my higher notes to sound strained, or even overly nasally. I'm very glad I found this video. You'r first tip was working on breathing, and I just really watched a video of yours on the subject. I know how to 360 diaphraghm inhale correctly withought raising the shoulders, but singing on the exhale I don't know what to do. Whether I tense the "lower abdominals"(and this someohow also tenses my throught), or at that point just simply sing(which is what I have been doing). I think this is the root of the root tension ;) because either way I tense. And I don't really feel like I'm supporting. Dr. Dan could you tell me what to do on the exhalation? And are there any other excercises to incorporate im.my warm-up for reducing tounge tension.
    I am terribly sorry for bothering you with such a long question. I know you have many other students. However any help is appreciated.

    Hi Dan! Absolutely great video about tongue root tension! Ive noticed after 10 years of singing that this is my absolute greatetst issue! Just got ONE question from you. My tongue keeps wanting to go backwards even performing this exercise you demonstrate in the video, but can I possibly use a face towel to hold my tongue out (without forcing ofocurse) and do this excercise to train my breath management? Sincerely claudia

    Please answer my question, should I be doing this everyday or just before I sing? Will doing it everyday help so that the next time I sing I won't feel tension again? thank you and have a nice day.

    I always feel tense at the base of my throat (I guess where my trachea is) right above my collar bone. It's always at the front and is also where I feel pain when I sing (which I can't for more than a minute without pain.) I'm not sure what this issue is caused by but am wondering if it is caused by tongue tension?

    Hi Dr. Dan, when I do the tongue sticking out exercise I get a really airy, weak sound. Is this because my chords aren’t contacting each other properly? Do you have any exercises to correct this or is it just learning to use more support / get better air flow?

    Dr Dan...fondest regards from the uk...what i wanted to ask you is will the tongue root eventually stay stretched when doing these exercises or will it retract again if you were to stop them.also is it a good idea to include these in your 'warm up'.

    I used to have this problem, it literally feels like your throat is trying to swallow your sound, it sucks. It was because of my poor breathing and I had too much tension on my vocal track, relaxation responses are literally great habits and really improve your voice. I like breathing in my larynx now or use the beginning sensation of a yawn without using tongue or jaw tension and keep that position to sing. It does feel super free and effortless.

  • @wowawewah
    @wowawewah 4 года назад

    You didn't explain how to stretch or relax the tongue? Do we just hold it out, or stretch as far as we can or only slightly???

    • @amandarosehargreaves884
      @amandarosehargreaves884 3 года назад +1

      Just hold it out enough so that if you were to look in a mirror, you could clearly see if it is retracting or not. You could even use paper towel to hold out, that way you can feel if it is pulling in.

      @@coraimagarcia541 a trick is imagine the tongue is at the teeth at all times but requires some movement on the top teeth on some constants, try the speech level like method like if you were speaking or talking but don't tense it. People might not know it that it's connected to your vocal control and cords that's where the tongue (swallowing muscles) end. This position it's the same position when we speak
