I love that you watched these episodes, the daddy vs usopp and sanjis cooking contest were officially created by oda for the manga but he had to cut them out the story so the prologue of the story is exactly 100 chapters. Technically it’s filler but i think you can consider it as anime canon.

Carmen could have been on the ship before the whole Zeff attack. It seems like Sanji worked a cruise ship of some sort, so lots of guests on each trip. So maybe she saw Sanji, got off the ship and then a month later Zeff attacked? Not sure haha but thats my best guess

these two episodes may be filler, but i dont mind them really, it doesnt come off as non-canon as some filler can get in Anime like One Piece, it just adds a nice story to Usopp getting those Goggles and Sanji getting that Big Fish. some filler in One Piece can really be fire, but the ones focused on Sanji are good stuff. with the popularity of Food Wars aka Shokugeki no Souma, there was fans wanting to see Sanji in the show, perv out over the God Tongue and the American Chef who loves her meat... pause! and take on Soma one on one in a battle over whose dish can blow off the clothes best.

7:00 - speaking of the whole "daddy wasnt there" issue, i get why a lot of people tear into Yasopp, but as far as the situation goes, Yasopp is part of Shanks' crew, and his presence in his family's life would have been treacherous. the Grand Line is no place to raise a child and just being associated with a Pirate can net you prison time, even possibly execution, so what's a Pirate with a family to do, you know? then there's always the possibility that Usopp's Mom asked him to not be around anymore, maybe she didnt want Usopp to follow in his footsteps, or maybe she simply knew what was at risk from the gate and decided to play it safe, the truth is we dunno about that and i think that is why it may be too soon to make judgement calls on Yasopp.
I respect this point of view it’s like yeah he left but like in good faith ya know I can respect that… knowing when to quit is better then never quitting and messing everything up lbvs

These two episodes are anime canon. The rumor is that Oda had these stories written but because he wanted to end the East blue Saga at chapter 100, he couldn't include them in the manga.
The end result is canon. Sanji does get that fish and Usopp does get those goggles.

These two episodes are anime-only filler (non-canon to the official story in the manga), so Carman surviving actually shouldn’t have happened but eh, whatever. We get Sanji Food Wars and Usopp saying “Daddy” so it’s not a total bust
