It takes time. My best advice as a 21 year old with 0 college years played BUT with 4 years of eligibility to play. Do as many open try-outs. I get paid a reasonable amount of money playing locally. Up to 4 games a weekend sometimes up to 250$ a weekend that the coaches pay for me to show up. Now, I've played everywhere and have gained a lot of experience. Open tryouts were hard for me because they always look at your profile to see what teams you've played for. I've been turned down multiple times but also accepted. You do not fail until you quit. Keep moving forward.
All try out are worth it , if you are not selected, you experienced a different environment that is closer to where you wanna be. If you are scouted and picked up than it is definitely worth it.

The american system is super weird. It works for american sports but for soccer you really need to go through the academy system to have any chance of being competitive at the pro level.
Thank God for Matt. I really appreciate you giving information about this, and it makes complete sense to start from a realistic level you are in and work your way up.
I quit playing altogether at 16 when i was the new kid in the new town, the only freshman to make varsity, and they had no idea who i was. I got hazed really badly and quit. Fast forward five years later and having partied my brains away, I committed myself and within eight months got myself in tip top shape, started practicing with a team of guys who were older than me and had been through the ringer in Europe as teenagers/early 20s. They had connections to the pro team near me at the time, Atlanta Ruckus, and a sort of try out was set up for me. After warm ups and drills, we played a 10 v 10 on a half pitch. I checked out for a minute mentally and got tackled and injured. It was really intense. Even though I knew I wouldn't be coming back, they were all really supportive and told me I was welcome to keep training with them.
Im 23 years old and every video i watch is getting me closer and closer to my goal i really do appreciate the time and effort you put in to this thank you🙏🏽
watching videos will not get you closer to your goals, you are just hearing others opinions, not training, not improving, not playing matches, not increasing your connections. stop lying to yourself
There's scouts watching at most games. You just never see or know them but trust me they are there. If you are good enough you'll get scouted. Most open trials are just for money but if a scout is at a game that means there are looking for a player. But a lot of open trials are a great experience. Went to an open trial last year and didn't get any offers but in the past month I've had offers from Newcastle, Manchester City and had several D1 scholarships. Moral of the story, you don't need open trials but they are good if you're good enough you'll get scouted from a game. Like Matt said sometimes there is that 1 diamond out of a million that hasn't been spotted at a game yet and in that case open trials are brilliant. Just my opinion. Play well, work hard and if your good enough you won't need any open trials :)

Something he doesn’t say is that going through the academy system is the safest way to go pro. But the backlash is that you have to start young I would say 15 to 18 the younger the better.
Hey man. Great video. As someone who was dying to play for a club, I’ve seen this firsthand. I made some poor-decisions when it comes to putting my money where the value truly is. But as I went down the pecking order of clubs, I saw that some clubs weren’t as interested in looking at players and just threw us out onto the field to play or give their guys some late winter warmups. However, what you said is absolutely right. You do get exposure just being there. The coaches and assistants are all watching; even some news stations cover the open trials. Anyway, this may be my last round at giving this a go, which feels really heartbreaking, but that’s the nature of putting yourself out there I guess. I hope you find success and I hope you stay healthy and fit. I know you can do it.
I enjoy your videos and I hope you accomplish your goals Matt! Although, I do not have the dream to go pro anymore I’ve learned a lot by watching your videos and how they can be implemented to real life.
I attended 2 pro trials for free. Over 500 players were there. Only my 2nd try out was my best since my 1st was an experience. Its REALLY competitive. I only had 30 minutes to showcase my skills with 21 other players. College soccer is a better start than trials. But trials are good for experience.
This is some very good content. With open tryouts or trials players have to understand that timing plays a huge roll. Negotiations are going on constantly and there are so many elements involved to secure a preseason invite--so imagine all the elements needed for a contract! Great stuff!
For all of you who want to be a pro it depends on your age for example the best way to be pro is to get yourself to professional club academy at age 13,14,15,16,17 at age 16 you have to be in their youth team & at age 18 if you are really talented and playing good football the club will give you a pro contract and your career begins then the real hard work begins you Learn develop and you can be one of the best and play for the best teams. I got injured so that's what did me in. But i met lots of talented players. One of whom has connections with an agent from a team in brazil. I plan on going there with him next year.
Franklin Clinton PSC sounds legit. Coaches from around the US, canada, ireland, and Scandinavia look at players. The combines last 2-3 days depending on which one you attend. But they mainly go around the US. But i believe international players can attend as well.
Franklin Clinton they always look at players. There's 3 outcomes. 1- a team will want you 2- you and a bunch of other players travel to europe and play professional teams 3- they tell you what you need to work on and to try again in the future. I almost made a team in sweden but i got injured
Anthony Long the problem is that most people who do get signed are leaving the team in 3 of 4 months, some only stay a season, is there a reason for that? Are they not good enough or they just sign for a short period? They dont really got someone who is really a good or top player and who really made it.

find a way to get on a team, any team your fanily afford. have someone film your in-game play so that you have a tape to show colleges, & then try to get recruited by a college at any level.
actually toronto have been scouting other academies(in ottowa, other places) so if they see you and you stand out they will bring you into their academy, im assuming it will be freee or reduced pricing but its only for the best players they see

Once when I was 12 or something like that, there was a Liverpool FC try-out for youths, the only one near me by a team from another country in the recent ten years. I'm not really good at football but I wish I would've at least tried but I didn'd because I thought I was too bad :( It was just a weekend try-out and it didn't cost much either.
hey matt I am a 15 year old soccer player from Trinidad and right now I am playing for my school and the coach that we have is not so capable at coaching and I want to have your opinion on what we (the team) could do about the coach
good video. I recently went to an open trial and because of it was selected to travel to the Caribbean to possibly play professionally. let's see what happens :)
Some rumors and facts I heard about MLS open tryouts. For of you younger people the predecessor to LAFC was a team called Chivas USA and they had an open tryout in the LA area. I personally did not go but from what I heard all the games were only 10-15 minutes long and you rarely touched the ball since the time was so limited. It was so bad that the person I spoke to said he should have just wore something very ridiculous in order to draw some attention from the scouts. The Houston Dynamo's open tryout on the website clearly stated that the first phase of the open tryout would be a fitness test. They even listed and specified how the test will be conducted. And then it clearly stated that if you did not meet a certain time or level you would not make it to the next round. I personally thought it was a good idea because it would weed out all the people who were not "serious" about the tryout. The LA galaxy one time had an open tryout almost every year. And I think one of the players lied on their application in order to qualify for the tryout. The Galaxy ended up signing him anyway. I personally don't agree with this kind of behavior because this will likely encourage more people to lie about their age in order to get onto teams. Also I think Sebastian Le Toux ended up not making the team but got signed by the Philadelphia Union eventually.
Thank you for this video, I really needed to understand more about situations like these. I have two questions though. Was balancing university with your soccer a struggle? And I was also was wondering if could get some clarification on your first few steps after joining university? Again, thanks a lot :)
Great video ! One question..how do you find open trials ? Especially for teams in the lower leagues of England like how do you find their open trials ?
Kenny J. Rebollo I rang about 30 clubs in a day in England all of them either telling me they don't do open trials or they need to look at my cv (which isn't great) but I'm a good player, I'm just praying I get the chance and can get signed
La Flame I have open trials in London in February, not with a specific club but with a number of different club scouts, I booked it off "UK Football trials"
I play for a PDL youth club named Charlotte Eagles. They were the champions of the PDL league in 2016. It’s a college level league and all of the players are in college. I managed to make it into the team through contacts and because I am a lower class, i also manage to get a scholarship. Do you think I have a chance to make it to the senior team or maybe get scouted by another club?
I have a trial with the la galaxy 2 looking at how the galaxy are struggling defensively and missing the play offs , and also struggling with the usl for their reserve team do you think they would be looking to recruit from the tryout I’m gonna be attending in 3 days
I hope you are joking, First teams in the US, will never look for open trials to strength their team, they have scouting team that look for current pro's not people who are free agents and never played even semi pro in their life. If you really think that trialing with La galaxy 2 will get you to the 1st team, you are either dumb, or someone is tricking you into thinking that. The system is so bad in the US, that people think that pro's get recruited from open trials. LOL open trials are for desperate people, people who want to get maximum semi pro contract if they get extremely lucky and they are extremely good.
I got a interesting topic to talk about. How to become a better individual footballer? Because yes I know you play for your team and if you help your team by eg having good positioning then it's good but individually it does matter aswell as playing for the team. Thank you
I have been watching your videos on youtube. I have been enjoying them. If you ever coach at any academy, I am sure to get my 2 yr old boy to your academy. 😊
Cesar Pineda I am currently do finishing my GCSE's after I can go to the academy and start my career from there hopefully while also doing education but it's heavily focused on football and eventually you can progress and get a contract for the first team

My state is just making a soccer team for USL and they are hosting a tryout so would you suggest I go? I just turned 16 but still feel at pro level. If it matters I'm a keeper.
In England they have open trials at smaller teams but not really by big teams and even the open trials a smaller teams it's highly unlikely you'll even get looked, in England all the teams want a ready made footballer it's also based on who's more developed physically but that's just England😏
I played with a substitute on Vancouver whitecaps. He said he had an agent. But honestly he wasn't even that impressive what he showed at our pickup game. How come you don't talk about agents?
I’m 16 yrs old and I play in the Ecnl level . I have had upsl teams ask me to play for them but people are telling me to stay in youth what do u recommend? Or what path so I take to really try to make it in the mls

find a way to get on a team, any team your fanily afford. have someone film your in-game play so that you have a tape to show colleges, & then try to get recruited by a college at any level.
actually toronto have been scouting other academies(in ottowa, other places) so if they see you and you stand out they will bring you into their academy, im assuming it will be freee or reduced pricing but its only for the best players they see
Hey am omar nickname jaymar i watch u videos all the time thanks for the information and advice on u recently videos am currently living in the bahamas am still working hard to get the break true to be and pro
Great vid👌🏾
Once when I was 12 or something like that, there was a Liverpool FC try-out for youths, the only one near me by a team from another country in the recent ten years. I'm not really good at football but I wish I would've at least tried but I didn'd because I thought I was too bad :( It was just a weekend try-out and it didn't cost much either.
I have a question, do you always have to record yourself and send it to the coach because I have a mls next tryouts in 2-3 months with Chicago Fire
hey matt I am a 15 year old soccer player from Trinidad and right now I am playing for my school and the coach that we have is not so capable at coaching and I want to have your opinion on what we (the team) could do about the coach
can you do your next video on high school tryouts or tryouts in general
the soccer guy be good.
Lol 2 minutes lol. Thats no problem bro
From high school soccer to professional is that possible
Vegeta very very very hard. Unless u play at a very high level already it’s gonna be almost impossible.
Vegeta from just playing high school soccer with no club?
Yes just try to get a scouted
Vegeta Its possible! Keep playing the sport, go to club trials, train hard, get footage of how you play, etc.
go to a european academy my friend if thats the step u wanna take
good video. I recently went to an open trial and because of it was selected to travel to the Caribbean to possibly play professionally. let's see what happens :)
Well, we're waiting for something to happen.
Great video Matt!!!!
can you please do a video on alcohol and how it effects your sport/fitness?
Thank you immensely Matt
Hope Nick from train effective sees this not for the beef but so that it can benefit him in a positive way
Thank you for this video, I really needed to understand more about situations like these. I have two questions though. Was balancing university with your soccer a struggle? And I was also was wondering if could get some clarification on your first few steps after joining university? Again, thanks a lot :)
Great video ! One question..how do you find open trials ? Especially for teams in the lower leagues of England like how do you find their open trials ?
egg on toast is bomb usually they'll list them on their websites but it doesn't hurt to give them a call if they don't
Clive Greene how did it go?
Tryouts at USA is socx
I play for a PDL youth club named Charlotte Eagles. They were the champions of the PDL league in 2016. It’s a college level league and all of the players are in college. I managed to make it into the team through contacts and because I am a lower class, i also manage to get a scholarship. Do you think I have a chance to make it to the senior team or maybe get scouted by another club?
I have a trial with Sunshine Coast FC Fire in 3 days, Thanks for the tips!
did u make it bro 🤐
khushwaj this was 3 years ago bigman
why don't Nick Humphries join your team matt, then if he plays well he can get scouted by a good club in England
bob Bob it doesnt work like that
Great advice bro . 🙏🙏
could you do a video on how to improve your defense skills
Thank you
Can you do a heading tutorial?
I have been watching your videos on youtube. I have been enjoying them. If you ever coach at any academy, I am sure to get my 2 yr old boy to your academy. 😊
Hey Matt, When did you go to the Id camps? What year of high school?
Great advice 👍🏼

Thank You!
You are awesome you are the best RUclipsd ever
where would you find out about a open try-out???
It's not worth it. It's just like paying for a job interview. You are not supposed to pay for a job interview except that job is a scam
Should I play club soccer or try out for a division 4 soccer team? If I played with the division 4 would that be better for getting scouted?
i have a dumm friend who was gonna get scauted by new castle and juventus but he went in to drugs..... the problem with high school team and rofesional teams im in a youth profesional team we train 5 times a week with professional trainers league game per week on sathurday ore sunday ....

What developent league should I try to get chance of going pro?
UPSL o NPSL o USL 2?
O should try to go to college to try to get in the super draft?
matt frfr you could playing championship and English Football League EFL League One/two and if you do well in in those league you could play in the prem
Hoon EC tbh probably not but if he can continue improving like he is it's definitely a possibility
Do you have any tips for someone who maybe want to tryout at the Collegiate level? Maybe an open tryout?
They’re the biggest scam ever, just a money grabbing thing. Some of the quality of players that go are horrendous
It’s a scam. Only for the rich to get opportunities
Would you recomend d1 college to foreign players who could play for a semipro club in their own country?
My state is just making a soccer team for USL and they are hosting a tryout so would you suggest I go? I just turned 16 but still feel at pro level. If it matters I'm a keeper.
Did you go?
Whn u do ua vidoes do u think of pple or kids from Africa ...with little to use for training 🤔
The thumbnail for this video looks like a field that I played on in Canada
It is where I've played before
In England they have open trials at smaller teams but not really by big teams and even the open trials a smaller teams it's highly unlikely you'll even get looked, in England all the teams want a ready made footballer it's also based on who's more developed physically but that's just England😏
Kenny Fenton even smaller teams don't do open trials
I live in Oregon and I feel I can make the timbers 2 team
I played with a substitute on Vancouver whitecaps. He said he had an agent. But honestly he wasn't even that impressive what he showed at our pickup game. How come you don't talk about agents?
Please answer me. Can I play soccer and make it pro with education i mean I'm a student but i want to be pro footballer.
What do you think about the NPSL, their tryouts are $30.
I’m 16 yrs old and I play in the Ecnl level . I have had upsl teams ask me to play for them but people are telling me to stay in youth what do u recommend? Or what path so I take to really try to make it in the mls
It is better to go at uk trials or not? I wany your suugeestion.
What if I don’t have no pro experience but I believe I’m my ability?
Can someone please explain why, or tell me their story on how ones performance vary so much as mine. My ups are so much better than my downs, or the other way around. In some trainings I feel comfortable playing to my full potential, and my coaches compliment me afterwards. But in other trainings I just don't have it, i feel unfocused or something. I hate it
Hey Matt, I want to play d1 soccer at school like Harvard or Notre dame etc. I do play club (prem 1 / MRL) and hs do you have any recommendations to increase my chances.
Welcome to 2 day Tuesday until Thursday
We are looking for a winger at the Rowdies
What is your opinion on UK football trials
Should a kid at 13 yrs go to these open try-outs or is there an age limit?
