    I would make a very long speech, but I try being short. I follow Serie A because I'm italian. In Serie A there are 540 players. One is the better (CR7), there are 15 top players (Higuain,Icardi,Dybala,Dzeko,De Rossi,Mertens ...), 250 players are for Serie A (who can play in every club). Then, the rest of players are normal, and they could play in second/third division, but them are in Serie A for two reasons :
    1) mentality (sacrifices, personality, hard workout)
    2) good procurator ( agent, knowledge of people, transfermarket, affairs ... )
    This is the reality

    In the professional football world, regardless of what level your playing at whether it be top tier or lower this isn’t a massive gap in technical abilities and skill. Although, what separates these players is they’re decision making, picking out key moments and knowing how to execute these moments.

    Hey Matt, if you think that you are technically not at the EPL level consistently, how do you think Jamie Vardy can burst on the scene at his age and be such a quality player. Do you think a lot of it is speed/athleticism, or perhaps he had very good youth training to develop the technique to be an EPL player that he was able to call upon at a later age. I would like to hear your thoughts on that. I enjoy your videos, thanks!

      Unlike in American football or basketball, genetics does not play a huge role in football. I think it's because the 'culture' is different. In England, we play football literally everywhere and whenever we can. In the states, I think they play basketball and American football whenever they can at a young age. I'm not sure how to explain it but if you watch InTheLab's video on culture, I think you might be able to get a grasp on this issue. Not trying to be cocky here or anything, I haven't touch a ball for nearly 8 years now. If I had like two straight weeks of training, I'll probably be better than him

    I think the biggest difference between yourself and a Top level pro is pretty straight forward. You sadly didn't have the proper technical training at a young age. Most players or at least a decent amount of players playing at a higher level are special technically. You've become very good technically through working your ass off, but theres always going to be that gap. You have the mindset of the highest level soccer player, but just didn't get the training you deserved at a young age. i doubt Sergio bustquets is as athletic as you. so its tough. I love your channel dude! Not trying to be demeaning at all. just my take.

      sorry but in my opinion he has not the talent for the top level and thats ok, thats life. how many kids dream about the future as a pro player?!. iam from germany, soccer is the sports number one here and all guys who play as kids in professional clubs (u16,u18 or u21) dream about to play in the bundesliga or a league below but the quotient who really arrives as a fulltime soccer player and can life with that or pay the bills only with soccer is under 3%. yes with the right mindset, and hard work you can achieve many things but in the topgroup you must bring all stuff on a decent level. on the other hand, he can do every day what he loves for work and thats great but with 26 years he must realise that the windows are nearly closed for the big jump. a interesting question would be why is matt not earlier travelled to europe with maybe 22-24 years and tried for clubs in the second and third leagues from europe.

    • @nofurtherwest3474
      @nofurtherwest3474 5 лет назад +8

      @@hanswuat1245 I think part of his weakness is a lack of creativity and aggression. When you look at the top players, especially strikers, they play with no fear, they are not afraid to take creative chances. Matt is in great shape, maybe is lacking in technical skill compared to Europe, but he could compensate for that by being more aggressive. It goes in any sport. Sometimes players start later in life but have an intristic talent that they can still become pro. Maybe it's harder in soccer than in other pro sports. There certainly are late bloomers in basketball and american football.

    • @netking767
      @netking767 5 лет назад +2

      @@hanswuat1245 Yeah, playing at USL and other NA teams is holding him back. USA football focuses on physicals but the tactics are atrocious. Players who are not physical or technical can easily play at a decent level with the correct tactics, and at the same time with proper tactical education they can continue to develop technical skills and move up in levels. Sadly, it's the footballing environment that is holding him back...

    • @anakkucings
      @anakkucings 5 лет назад +2

      his speed and physique pretty similar to kolarov without the shooting, technical and stamina to really consistently overlap. old style fullbacks who sat back is what holding him back and imo if he focused on getting speed/explosiveness/stamina with better crossing/technical, any mls team would sign him.

      Sadly it isnt all about hard work. It's about that technical, tactical skill that most top 5 league players have that makes them better than the rest. You just pick it up. I'm playing at a relatively high level in Ireland for u15 level. I can tell you. The difference from playing in small regional leagues to now playing in our national league is huge and I've improved. But even then ik that the quality in spain, england, France is better so they would be learning even more than me. Just because you are the best at hard working in America doesn't mean you would be the best in , say, germany because of the technical skills he hasn't picked up from higher quality facilities and leagues. Just imo. Life is cruel but always dream big

    One thing that may help getting a bit more confident in your decision making skills is to pick two or three professionals in your position and obsessively watch their game highlights. Am not talking about those three minute soccer mixtapes, but their actual highlights against teams. Just by doing that you could see what works in certain situations, what doesn't, when to attack, when to play it safe, etc....

    Respect for working hard and going after your dream, even if you only make it as a lower level pro. One thing I would recommend for developing your close quarter skills and decision making is futsal. You get more of the ball, and since the pitch is small you are always being pressured, so you need to develop really good close control and fast decision making.
    You seem to have similar problems to many US soccer players. In general they are usually great athletes, are fit, and can work hard and run fast in straight lines up and down the pitch, according to certain drilled tactics, but many of them somehow seem a bit awkward in terms of their close control, ball skills, dribbling and decision making. They just don't seem to move like someone who is a natural with the ball at their feet.
    In countries like Spain, Portugal and Brazil, who develop naturally skilled creative players who have great dribbling and decision making skills many of the players play Futsal. Messi, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Neymar, etc all used to play a lot of futsal. So I'd highly recommend it if you want to improve your decision making and skill on the ball.

    Matt - I'm no expert, but I think that you are doing adequate technical training. That is not the problem. Even if you out trained the best players in the world, if you were faster, had better dribbling, etc.... you are missing some key things - the intangibles. I think you should spend many hours watching footage of the greats and then trying to mimick their moves in your training. Rather than just doing technical stuff and diet, recovery etc. You're great at that. What you need is vision, creativity, aggression, in your playing. Watch the greats and measure that stuff. The time that you allocate to making youtube videos you should reallocate that to studying the best players in the world at your position.

      @@alisafeerhyder1994 Yeah, maybe this is a confidence thing. So many players have the opportunity to attack but they just become a bit timid. But maybe I'm wrong, I'm not an expert. But I play a lot and I see this often. This can cause the better team to lose, because they have great dribblers and they hold onto the ball too long and don't get off enough shots. You can't score if you don't shoot and attack.
      You need a balance. Defense, midfield, strikers.

    Just that fact that you are able to evaluate yourself in this way, with this level of honesty goes to show why you are where you are and why I'm here watching this video instead or why some guys never make it to even a semi pro level.The only thing that I see that failed you is the level and quality of training. EPL players at 15-18 years of age are already spoiled with world class trainers and fitness coaches teaching them and molding them into an EPL player, where as here in the US we train players to compete at an MLS level of play or college level and I think we can all agree that is years behind the rest of the world. We're getting there but the rate of which we are moving towards a better youth system is way too slow!

    Easy to see after fast forwarding to the shooting section of the video. You are way too slow with moving the ball to the side and then shooting. In a higher level u need to do this much much faster. Need to shoot harder while bending it also.

    The best way to improve technique and decision making is playing indoor as much as possible. This will make you completely comfortable working within tight spaces where your first touch has to be perfect and you have to know what to do before you get the ball. This will make full field play seem fun, because of the amount of space.

    You are right about the differences. You can make it in MLS (with a bit more aggression, perhaps) but to survive in the higher leagues of Europe you need to understand tactics and the big picture better. At present you have a great chance to make it if you go overseas as you already have the physicals down, so it's just about tempo and understanding the game better. Your league and team are holding you back.

      A big part of it is the culture too. Most people in the US don’t really understand football aka soccer. Like for example when to get excited whats going on, who guys like Roberto Carlos and Ruud Gullit are and why they were great players. So most people don’t really know whats going on so its not really that suspenseful or exciting compared to our Football or even baseball or basketball. Most of our serious athletes end up playing other sports and are our role models when were growing. Soccers a great game though. Its way better than 🏈.

    Bro no offense, but I do believe that what prevents you to be a top league player is that you are living in the U.S, where the majority of people don’t care about soccer. Even for the players do care, they way people play in here is different from players in the top league. More aggressive running but less tactical. I think that because of the American people are more likely to watch the sport like football style.When it comes to soccer, players regardless of age have the similar impact from the big environment. It is said to say that man, I do truly admire the passion you have for the soccer, which inspire me and people like me all over the world. But in reality, soccer in America is the secondary sport industry. I used to live in a small town in Oregon, when the school team has football game, there were so many people drive to the stadium, family members, community members all gather together to support the football team.However, when we have the soccer game, I am sorry, the field is almost empty. But if you move the town to England, the situation gonna be completely opposite.
    In the end, what I can say is that if you ever have the chance to go Europe in the future, just grab it and go over there. Don’t stay in America, even the top level league in here is far slow and less competitive than the league in Europe. Maybe you can also start to plan for getting a coach license as well.Hopefully everything goes well for you, all the best to your future career.

    There are excellent comments on here. I was on football parks for 37 years. I had complete mastery of a ball on both feet from when I was 10. I am 6"4 and could pass ,dribble by 5 /6 men and had a very powerful shot and was a very good shielder of the ball and good tackler. I done none of these drills and yours is an American outlook. Far too technical & robotic. Watch English & Scottish football from the 70s. They are magnificent players who played on terrible parks and with a poor ball. They hardly trained. You must be free in your mind to play your best at any sport. Football is a beautiful flowing game but modern coaches are destroying it with chess tactics. It is great to watch you training and your ability , but you need to relax a bit and go find a football team and play Free!!

    Physical ability is more like a requirement than something that separates you from others. For example, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Xabi Alonso, Gerard Pique - these are all players who get by physically, but are not outstanding. I could give a hundred more examples of top class players who are just good enough physically but not excellent. What makes a player special are the small details: what direction they take their first touch; whether or not they play one touch or two touch; whether they make a diagonal run or a forward run; whether or not they run for the near post or far post. You can be Usain Bolt, but if you don't know when to pass, where to pass, how to pass, where to run, when to run, how to run, it won't work out for you. People talk about Ronaldo's crazy six pack and muscles, but they don't realize how perfectly he times his runs.

    From what I have seen the MLS is roughly at the level of the Portuguese Second Division. Europe doesn't give much attention to the MLS even though it has grown significantly in the past decade. At 26 your odds of making it are quite low since as other commentators said it is not only about the physical and mental side of the game. You need a good agent, a couple of good seasons where you stand out a lot and a bit of luck. It is cool to watch your channel. I can tell your problem already. you're doing that practice drill of dribbling down the right side of the field with your right foot, cutting in to shoot with your right foot. Already that's a big problem, trying dribbling down the right side of the field with your left, to shield the ball from enemy players on your right, then cut inside to shoot on your left. People don't get this, But Iniesta spoke about this, There was an amazing premier league player called Matt Le tissier, he was chunky, he wasn't fast, but his control was perfect, and iniesta said that you can be as slow and walk through people as long as the ball stays at your feet, edit: what I mean by dribbling with your left foot, is using the outside of your left foot to control the ball, I barely saw any of that, you need to shield it from midfielders on your right with your body.

      @@netking767 false look into the goals per game in the league compared to other leagues. It's a very defensive and physical style of play in ligue 1, ask Neymar's feet.
      I am not taking about skills of course but bundesliga and la Liga are much more offensive. Ben yedder scores more in liga than in France the same goes for Alassane Plea in Bundesliga

    Matt, Would you ever consider also chopping your videos into chunks and posting them as a few separate videos. I want to share the main part of this sessions to some teenagers, but they wont watch it all as it is........or not all of it applies to the message i am trying to support so i don't want to share it all. Either way, great video. It offers great insight and is presented really well (as always).
