This song is played at almost every single Steelers home game! The crowd goes absolutely insane!!!🖤💛🖖🏼
Yes !!!!!
Tons of quality to pick from in the Styx catalog - try The Grand Illusion next
Saw them live in Vegas in February. Still rocking hard.
STYX 🤘😎 Rock and Roll at it's very Best......Grand Illusion🎼🎼🎼🎼
Tommy Shaw is a incredible Singer guitar player and songwriter, Very talented!🥁🎸🔥💣👍🏽
LOVE TO YOU BOTH.
Saw them live in Omaha Nebraska, 1981, they rocked Paradise Theater! Too Much Time On My Hands, The Best of Times, Snowblind, Half-Penny, Two-Penny, Suite Madame Blue, Come Sail Away ⛵️ 💙 😉 😀 oh yea and Angry Young Man 👨 😀 😉 😆
Saw them on the same tour in London, great show
Happy you mentioned Half Penny Two Penny. Not only one of my favorite Styx songs but one of my favorite songs of all time!
I saw them same year in Denver Colorado🤘😎 they absolutely Shredded it. 80s Concerts we're Fabulous.
Too Much Time On My Hands is another one Tommy sang lead on. Best of Times is a great song by Dennis.
Dee, think Western movies or television. The Renegade is the outlaw who had a bounty on his head and has been caught for the payment. The Lawman is the Sheriff or Marshall. The Judge found him guilty and gave him the sentence of death by hanging.
The Hangman is the executioner. He checks out the gallows (where a person is hung) to try to ensure it will effectively break the convict's neck. If the convict survives the hanging drop, back in the day that was considered Divine Providence and proof that the court convicted the convict by mistake. Usually the convict is then nursed back to health and set free.
The Hangman/Executioner is usually the one who will throw the lever which sets off the workings of the gallows where the floor will drop out from under the convict and their own bodyweight dropping is what caused the noose around their neck to tighten and break their neck.
In older times when a convict was beheaded rather than hung, the Executioner was usually hooded and masked to hide their identity as much as possible. I'm uncertain if the Hangmen were hooded and masked as well.
That's my understanding of the term "Hangman." I hope I was helpful.
A well thought out explanation, sounds about right to me. I'm an old guy and have seen this in many westerns over the years. Interesting is that a renegade is not just an outlaw, but a specific outlaw. The dictionary defines a renegade as "a person who deserts and betrays an organization, country, or set of principles", and "having treacherously changed allegiance". What's even more interesting is that there's a U.S. president that CHOSE renegade as his Secret Service code name. I'll let you look that up, it may surprise you.
SUCH A BANGER!
Everyone on this track gets their chance to show why Styx are rock legends.
The song "Crystal Ball" does the same thing. When it drops, you can feel it.
Steelers fans have heard it a lot
Saw them 3 times in the late 70's. The girls we knew liked disco and this was the only rock band they would see.
Renegade - the kind of song you’ll get pulled over for! 🙋🏽♀️
very first band to release three platinum sellers consecutively
I had such a crush on the singer from STYX when I was in my teens! First concert I ever went to. This song is haunting! 💕💕 (the hangman is the guy who is about to hang him from the gallows, like they used to in the old days)
Tommy was a cutie!🥰
@@lauraulnye6857 lol! Yes he was!
Blue Collar Man is a really great one by Styx.
Hope to see a reaction to that one
I loved seeing that smile come across your face. This song has is surprising.
Tommy Shaw is great on vocals along with the music from the rest of the band!
I saw Styx live in 1977 for the first time. Since then, I've seen them at least 10 times. They never disappoint.
Ton of energy in this one...
This is one of my favorite Styx albums of all time! Too many great songs! My dad (rest his soul) would always give me some money for the jukebox at the Pizza Shoppe and say play that "Blue Collar Man" song for me. He was a die hard union leader. Have you done that one yet?
I loved when Dee called Chod, "Wilburn" for almost poking her in the eye. I thought she was going to smack him upside the head. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Dee's facial expressions at and after the big "YEAH!", were epic.
Renegade is my favorite but I love everything this band does. We were spoiled for choice back in the day and I’m so glad other generations are jamming to the same awesome music. Love your channel. My dad was a drummer. He played with Otis Redding, James Brown and others. I’m really partial to drummers. RIP daddy.
I love the low drums in the beginning part. They sound like a heartbeat.
Honestly, I knew you would love this. Just waiting for the smile I knew was coming when it picked up. I remember your roundabout reaction and knew this reaction was gonna be a must watch. This song is definitely the apex of the band in my opinion.
The guitar work in this is incredible. The vocals are out of this world. The drums. Oh man, the drums!
Look for youth orchestra performances of these songs ! So awesome .
👍LOVE THIS!
Another great Band from the seventies
When you're in a band, this is a fun song to sing and play. And seeing Styx do this song live, right in their heyday, was a real treat.
Great song and great vocals by Tommy Shaw not to mention his and James Young shredding those guitars!
Hard N Heavy !!!!! If you like STYX check out Damn Yankees, a late 80's Supergroup which had Tommy Shaw(STYX) Jack Blades(NightRanger) Ted Nugent and Michael Cartellone. Listen to Come again or High enough. Come again is an awesome jam !!!!
Check out the clips from the Styx concert with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra. From 2006, lots of the songs are on RUclips. You can stoke your desire to direct!
Seen Styx perform this live tonight in Charlotte NC.
Definitely one of my favorite and a great album too!
Styx was "the" band back in the day...I've seen them in concert numerous times since the 90s and that energy is still there. Do yourself a favor and check out some more recent videos (after 1995) so you can watch drummer Todd Sucherman--even if it is just for fun. Liked your enthusiasm.
They have their own sound with harmonies. My favorite song is Snowblind from Paradise Theatre
Great reaction guys! My favorite Styx song is Come Sail Away. I'd love to see ya'll react to that.
Thanks for checking out another Styx joint where Tommy Shaw sings lead! You can definitely hear the difference when he's lead vs when Dennis DeYoung is. DDY's songs have always had a more "theatrical" feel to me. Tommy just straight up rocks. :) "Blue Collar Man" is another Tommy Shaw lead song that starts off on fire. If you want to switch it up back to DDY lead vocals, "Lady" is a nice ballad. If you want to get tripped out a bit, check out "Mr. Roboto." lol.
And James?
@@kympridham8267 JY rocks hard, too. No doubt! You might not agree, but JY's lead vocals really didn't get much radio play compared to the other two so I didn't bring him up. He's an amazing guitarist. I'm a fan of "Snowblind" and "Miss America" for sure. :)
@@ToeTag1968 Just thought he was worth a mention too often he is forgotten
😁
These guys were great!! Saw them back in high school, awesome 😃
This was a western theme
Hey guys . Love your channel. This is tommy Shaw on vocals . He did some and rocked the guitar pretty well . Dennis deYoung was the lead singer for the most part and Les them down different paths like the mr roboto thing and did the ballads. Tommy Shaw stayed more true to the rock thing .
Two lead sings in Styx. Dennis DeYoung and on this song it is Tommy Shaw.
All-time great roller rink song
Was fun reading Dee's face on this one!
My favorite Styx song. I’m 60 years old. Back in high school we used to hang out at a pizza parlor (Round Table) after football and basketball games. This song would be played over and over again on the jukebox.
Light Up is my all time favorite Styx tune.
👍👍👍👍👍
This song is played in the second half of Pittsburgh Steelers home games since 2002.
Styx were such a great band...They really hit the radio in 76 when I was in high school...But, they just blended in with all the other great groups of the time...Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight are two must have albums for any audiophile's collection...
Can't go wrong with Styx. Another band that has so many hits
Jim "J.Y." Young on lead guitar 🎸🔥
Miss America is a great sleeper track, too!
Proof that Styx can rock
Agreed, but there are 17 albums of proof to go with it.
Hey there! While I know you've already listened to half a dozen Styx songs, as a Styx fanatic and a long time fan of your reactions, I have a treat for you. There's a deep cut on their 1976 Crystal Ball album, a song called Clair De Lune/Ballerina. And I'd be willing to bet you've never heard a song quite like this one. Dennis DeYoung plays two types of keyboards on this, and I know you will love the piano. Btw, he never actually learned how to play the piano. The first instrument he learned to play was the accordion (which he uses on another great track), and he started playing the piano as if he would the accordion. Of course, you have the amazing soaring vocals and harmonies, and some really cool bass riffs. For the finale of the song, you have Tommy and JY playing back and forth, with their individual guitar sounds and styles. (It goes JY/Tommy/Tommy/JY) Again, either listening to this as a reaction or for your own personal enjoyment, I really know that this song is something you'll find very special. Thanks for listening! Lisa
Tommy Shaw is one of the best singers around. Styx started as a Prog rock band in the 70’s and then they evolved into a more pop and softer rock sound.
Love them or hate them those softer DDY songs go straight to the top of the charts and makes the band a ton of $$$.
Awesome song 🎵
To Dennis deyoungs credit he rocked vocals and played the keys . Different directions for the same band
You've gotta check out Too Much Time On My Hands! Another great song from Styx!
The hangman is literally a guy that brings prisoners to the gallows to be hung. It's kind of an Old West story. Dude singing the song was some gunslinger ( or something ) and finally got caught. And in the Old West, that usually meant there was gonna be a hanging.
Must checkout the live version of fooling yourself with the youth choir from Ohio. There is an actual band leader and the kids are totally into it. Thanks
Man in the wilderness or Castle Walls are great Styx song from Grand Illusion album.
No auto-tune, like today’s absolute crap, just pure talent.
The drummer for Styx Todd Sucherman has a bunch of live videos here on YT. you need to check him out.
❤️
Gonna see them in September
Tommy Shaw(songwriter) singing lead this song- has a 2nd chapter in his career called Damn Yankees.
They do this live- definitely worth seeing.
Ted Nugent and Jack Blades( Night Ranger) are also Damn Yankees.❤️🎼❤️😎
And sadly we were denied a 3rd Damn Yankees album. The record label had decided to go all in on grunge and literally paid the band $1,000,000 to not record another album.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
0:48 😆
I like this song but I love that woman reacting to the song.
Anytime anyone wants to play Renegade I'm all over it
can you do a reaction to 22 Years by Styx
Tommy Shaw singing lead!
HANGMAN IS JUST THAT-THE HANGMAN,EXECUTIONERI totally agree with them being underrated
Grew up on the North side of The Chi about a mile from the Aragon Ballroom ,they opened for many bands in the late 70's.Incredible live. After that ,nothing but headlining.
Blue collar man is another good one.
Blue Collar Man rocks just as hard.
Going to see them, Reo Speedwagon, and Loverboy in a few weeks
Such an intense vocal!
You outta show your wife the You tube videos where Tommy Shaw went to a school in Ohio and got the school band and chorus groups to play this song for a couple of audiences
Guys, check out their song Snowblind
I believe this is the song you play to find out if a party will work or not. Will it be lame or will it be boring? It's an ice breaker, for sure.
Want the worlds best percussion solo check out Rush, Working Man from their album All the World’s a Stage. It will be the solo you judge all other drum solos by. Remember it’s live.
I don't know if y'all have yet but you need to review Miss America by the same band
The hangman symbolizes….. the hangman. Nothing more.
Tommy Shaw is an incredible talent. Check out Tommy at Daryl's house
Song is lteral. Fiction. He's just caught on the way to execution.
These guys put on a great show. I saw them twice, back in 1978 and again in 1983.
The lead singer, Dennis DeYoung, left the band years ago.
Some if the original members are still together under the Styx name.
Take a listen to "Bad Company" by Bad Company. Yet another GREAT outlaw type rock and roll song...
This is Styx's best song, imho... though "The Grand Illusion" is mighty powerful as well.
Usually, the hangman is the executioner.
My theme song...
You should watch Tommy do it with Daryl's House....pretty funny and good.
React to the band Kansas - The Pinnacle live ....and Puya a Puerto Rican Metal band !!
GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!
☮️❤️🔥🔥🔥🎵🎶🎵🎶...😏
lol
How come I know that if I randomly met Chod, we’d get along famously, and party together…Then, 2 weeks later Chod would embarrassingly admit to me that we can’t be friends, cuz his wife doesn’t like me?
Wish Denis DeYoung was still with Styx.
Babe you best watch your eyes wen he hits spaz ..drum stick to the eye gatta be no good
Where are your headphones??????????????????????????????????????
