Don't know if anybody said it already, but they cut sodium in the MCW's due to the fact that it is harder to stay hydrated in cold weather. So many calories and such are burned when you are trying to stay warm that you need extra water. Extra salt can mess the balance up. Glad you enjoyed the meal! Fun to watch, as always. Good idea on the drink mixes, Ace! Stay well guys!

The look on your face as you looked into the camera, it's like you had instant recognition, of the time the whole pack went up at once!! Great looking MRE, surprised to see that large of a portion of the stroganoff. A great combo of the vanilla and the orange drink. Keep 'em comin' guys!! God bless and stay safe.

You would not believe what a great cook my wife is. It's a wonder I don't weigh 300 lbs. But I get excited because I think of being active duty and having this kind of meal out in the field compared to what we got, C Rats (old) or first generation MREs (we were the guinea pigs). TFW!
My dad is a Marine God rest his soul, it's not about the guy gets excited because he never gets to eat. Most Marines are just thankful for everything that they have!!!!!!!!
We were sent several of pallets of Cold Weather MREs right after the invasion of Iraq. I traded other guys for all of these I could. The main meals actually had a very good flavor more like civilian back packers meals. I'd usually add water then set it out in the sun. After about 20 or 30 mins they it was good to go. Thanks for the great channel.
Now that's a proper main dish. Would love to see this high quality mountainhouse brand in all future MREs for our soldiers. Granted you need hot water to make this..... maybe they should make an FRE water heater pouch with a second sealed chamber to seperate the chemicals from the freshwater?
I also spent considerable time onboard the LPH2 Iwo Jima as well on a Med Float and then during Desert Shield/Storm I was onboard the LHA 2 Saipan that and the Good Ole LST 1193 Fairfax County on Med Floats. It amazes me how far MRE have come compared to the regurgitated meals they gave us back then... Chicken Ala King and the Freeze Dried Pork Patty or the nasty Omelet and Ham or the Potatoes Au Rotten. I think I spent 90% of my meals out in the bush/sand either eating cheese and crackers or peanut butter crackers or the combination of the two. Or making Cocoa Puffs with Cocoa Powder and the Crackers. I loved it when they started introducing the Tabasco bottles 1990 in the meals, Glad to see they started putting them back in meals again. I think 2011 was when they stopped Semper FI !!!

You sound like my Dad when you get as exited as you did over the "orange beverage base". In my house growing up we basically only had 2 types of allowed kool-aid, grape and orange. Dad loved them both and still loves them and calls them pop. Another Great review, keep up the great work!
The mountain house meals are always better with Asa's seasoning to be honest :) I hope you get the opportunity to review some of the mountain house breakfast meals as they are some of my favorite. ESPECIALLY the biscuits and gravy one.

Man, I'm not sure how you can take that heat. I'm not a heat guy, for sure. It is a good MRE, though. I've seen several MRE sites and eBay listings for newer Cold Weather MREs, so they are definitely out there. TFW!

A good trick with the freeze dried stuff is add less water then it says because you can always add more water to it but you can not take water away from it if you put to much in it. Also mix it up after you put the water in to make sure it all gets mixed well.
Damn! An MRE worth eating! I would love to score a case of these cold weather MREs. You were aboard USS Iwo Jima, cool. I served 3 years aboard USS New Orleans (LPH-11)....My ship stood in for the then scrapped USS Iwo Jima to film the movie "Apollo 13".

I have never seen it in any MRE's, but if you have it on hand it's a way better alternative. Maybe we can get someone to add it to them in place of Tabasco lol. Thanks again for the great reviews.

You know, I'm going by what a website for MRE history said. You may be right, but the website indicated the 2011 would have had the #1 and #2 meals switched as far as menu is concerned. TFW, Ross.
Cold weather MREs have a lot of liquids and low sodium to help prevent dehydration. If a soldier did get salt it probably could be a bartering item. I could see why they add the Tabasco to add flavor since there is a no salt option.
The Beef Stroganoff is my absolute favorite MH meal. Great stuff! Tobasco can enhance bad food, but will ruin good food, overbearing the taste of the food.

I enjoyed mixing in coffee powder into the vanilla shakes when I used to get them. It was my favorite combo to make with MREs

Quick tip. With the freeze-dried meals, crush them up prior to adding the water. It seems to help the water hydrate the meal more thoroughly.

just remember mountain house started out as a dehydrated meal for campers. so they have excellent food , otherwise they would not stay in business.
If you like cold weather MRE i suggest Arctic Field Ration, Norwegian MRE.

You sure that’s not 2011? Those little bottles were phased out back in 2011. They made a comeback in 2019. But, it was short lived.

I just recently read that they are no longer making the little bottles of hot sauce for MRE's. They are being replaced by powdered hot sauce packs.

For the cold weather ones we used to cook them in the canteen cup over a fire for about 10 mins and they were a lot better #deploymentfood

If you add up all the different nationalities' MREs to the ones made in the USA, I'd say there are probably between 500 and 1,000 edible MREs on the market today. TFW, Cayden the Cool!

These mcws have alot of sodium in the main like alot u should look at the nutrition facts and u will see why they didnt include a salt packet great review guys and awsome idea on the orange cream shake
