well this is my first time seeing this guy. im not really a Honda person, but i agree with him about the new Civic and Accord. the only thing i disagree with him on is the 8th gen being the last true Civic. maybe for the Si, but not the main car. i felt like the 8th gen regular Civic was the beginning of the end, but it didn't take full effect until the 9th gen and 10th gen Honda Civics. last the true Honda Civic in my opinion was the 7th gen and the 6th gen before that. so from 1996-2005 was the best years for the Civic.
I had this car. Still one of my favorite Si’s. The K20 was the best sounding 4 cylinder I’ve ever heard. Body roll was a problem with this car, but I upgraded to the hfp suspension which fixed it.
My 08 si has 120k, still runs great , og trans , interior is flawless, pulls hard , revs high , fun to drive. Im going to keep it , rebuild motor and trans if needed.
The only Civic that I ever liked was the EK9, not really a fan of them besides that car. But I respect Honda Civic though, it’s a shame that ricers give them a bad name. The Integra Type R is a legend though, and the NSX was historical. Good video.
Love my 8th FA5. I would love to keep it forever... And at the rate it's going, likely won't be a problem. It's rock solid reliable as well as fun to drive hard. One of the best cars ever!
I like having an engine that has all of its torque at 1800 RPM... because that’s where I use it day to day. No... I’m not talking about a V8 or a V6. I’m talking about the new base 1.5T engine in the tenth generation Civic. It stays in sixth gear above 40 MPH. Cruising... going up hill... passing.... passing up hill. By the time you do a double downshift and your VTEC kicks in... I’m gone.
yea but a 1.5t is gay. new civic has better performance stock in all areas but speed is not everything. the k20z3 sounded much better and had a sharper and longer power curve, it also has more options for upgrades. direct injection 4cyl turbos all sound the same and have mundane performance, the power is hardly anything to be jealous of as a golf gti will still accelerate harder even with basic bolt ons, and you won't be looking at ford gts without a deep wallet and addiction to e85. a k24 with a z3 head and a rotrex will consume a stock gt on a highway pull, and still get ~25 mpg cruising on 91
your civic is weak and GT are shit cars. my 08 civic si with gt35r turbo makes 350 whp on 9 psi and I shit on mustangs. 350 whp feels like 500 whp in my car because of its lightweight chassis. your boat cant keep up, all it does is waste gas xD
In 2012 I bought the 2011 civic SI Navi, Tafeta white. I still own it and currently have 50,000 miles, gonna keep it and see where it will be 10, 20 years from now.
Yeah just got a 14' white here, curious what happens in 20 years. Imports are taking over for this generation in my opinion they will be highly sought vs. american muscle for the millennial generation.
@Sergio Aguirre yeah but it doesn't have that awesome price point and that sweet sweet RWD of course it also has an engine that like fires the right way so yeah go Civic SI and Type R
Maybe it might sound funny to some but I just woke up from a dream. I dreamt I was driving my Honda Civic Si 2009 red. I had it back in the US but here in Ecuador you can barely find Hondas. It was such a great car
I’ve owned a 2011 Si coupe for a year now, and it is a great, enjoyable small car. The high revving engine is a lot of fun to drive with, definitely a good example of “slow fast” cars being fun. My biggest problem is the cramped engine bay. I haven’t don’t much with this car, but it has been annoying to work on. For that reason I’m probably going to eventually sell it in favor of an older Civic. But overall, I think this car deserves more attention.
what didn't u like about the gt? it has the 5.0 coyote high rev motor? revs higher than a k24 at 7500 rpm... 420 hp 390 tq I was going to trade my civic si for one I have a 2008 fa5 with a turbo.... but why did you switch back>
I agree with you on the 8th gen but just on the motor. To me with driving both, I love the chassis of the 9th. It's slightly lighter and feels more stiff. Of course, the biggest thing it lacks was the 8000RPM redline and VTEC on the exhaust is missing too so VTEC doesn't hit as hard as with the 8th gen. I'm guessing they did this for emissions purposes or to save money. Still, one of the bigger complaints with all the previous Si models was the torque. Just like what Honda did with the S2000 and decided to give it a 2.2L in the later models, Honda gave the 9th gen a 2.4L, way more torque and you can feel it throughout the RPMs. It's great for daily driving and auto-x. After driving both and assessing what I wanted out of a daily driver, I still went with the 9th gen since it just feels way more comfortable to be in and drive. Also, driving on the freeway in 6th gear and flooring it, it picks up speed way faster than other Si models. Eventually, with time, I'll build a 2nd motor with a better head but for right now, I'm enjoying the car for what it is.
I actually like the two tier dash. The speedometer is right in my line of sight when I'm driving, so I don't have to look down and search for my speed. It's always in my peripheral vision.
Having lived with this same car (redline orange, though) for 5+ years, I can agree that this is a great Honda. Maybe even the last great Honda (though I agree with other comments that if that's what we're thinking, it's really the FD2 that's the last great Honda). I disagree with the reviewer on a few points: The gauge cluster is not awkward; it's superior. I've lived with it for years - and going back to the two-pod design seems atavistic to me. The wheel is small, but the steering isn't quick by modern standards. However, I'd argue that it's a perfect steering ratio once you're at speed. The older Civics had double wishbone, but the 8th gen Civics will keep you from dying when/if you crash (there's a huge safety rating leap when going to the 8th gens over the older models). I agree with the reviewer on the engine placement, though. What a pain in the ass to get to. For me, this is a car that rewards the driver for "getting it right" more than any other car I've driven. I'm not saying it's the fastest (it's not), but it is the most rewarding that I've experienced.
@Corey To your gauge cluster comment: the reviewer said he was confused by it; a point to which I have no idea what he means but I agree with you 100 percent-it is simple and very efficient. Engine placement comment. It's a very simple cowel removal procedure to get back over the head; though weird when coming from the earlier Civics, it's pretty easy to remove and admirable that Honda made that strut bar stock on all 8th gens to improve handling and help with weight distribution.
Watching this video got me thinking about my last car. A 2007 white Honda Civic SI sedan. I ran a MAP based Hondata flash for years on that beaut, never even hiccuped once. I installed a variety of intakes on it, had a HFP front lip kit, lowered on Swift springs which were installed and aligned by the guys at Evasive Motorsports. It also had an Invidia Q300 exhaust, shifter bushings kit and a Skunk 2 shift knob=), debadged the DOHC I - VTEC stickers and named her " Pretty". I still am a believer in Honda as a company but moved on to another as an enthusiast. I am too old to be seen coming out of the new Civic Type R. I now daily drive a 2016 Ford Mustang GT premium I call " Petunia". I very rarely post comments online but seeing this vid triggered me. TBH, I guess I do still miss my old Honda and its 8,650 RPM song.
I'm literally in the same boat, except switched lol... Integra to mustang to Integra... I miss my mustang, Integra is fun and revs to 8k but only makes 175 crank lol. Mustang reved to 8k also and made 800 crank lol....
@@thefuzzypickle8277 you'd rather be found? Who are you trying to impress? Get whatever car you want cause you love it, who cares what anyone thinks 🤷🏼♂️
I agree with your premise that the 8th gen Civics have the best look, drive, and feel of the newer Civics. They just feel right. Whether they are the last true Hondas with the formula you mentioned remains to be seen. Personally I like the 2006-8 look better than the facelifted 2009-11 ones. Also I think that 4 doors are 2 too many but that is also a personal preference. What is very non-Honda like about this gen is the transmission issues affecting the first roughly 2 1/2 years of production. (Honda TSB A08-020) There should have been an immediate recall and it should not have taken them that long to redesign the 3rd gear set. Makes me love the ones without that issue even more but Honda really sullied their reputation on that issue IMO. Great video!
I recently bought the 10th gen SI and I personally like the way it drives. The low end torque is there and if you want to tune it up you don’t have to do much. A stage 1 tune can get you 230whp and almost 300wtq
I had a 2009 civic si coupe in redline orange, oh... how I miss it :/ I own a S2000 now, but I am 100% sure I will look for an 8th gen again in the future. Hopefully a sedan for more practical use.
I agree. I own a 2008 Si Sedan in black like the one you drove. I cashed in a one year old 2014 Focus ST for it, and I have zero regrets. Best all-around drivers car I've owned, and I've had my fair share of 'sporty' cars.
I wish I got that 😔. I love the 8th Gen Si’s. I feel like most have been beat up now. So I’m thinking of getting the 10th Gen Si in the future. I know no VTEC and no high revs but it’s still a great car to drive. I currently have a 2009 civic coupe Lx with ~120,000 miles
Had love this video and that you used my exact car. Makes me proud of my 09 FA5. Makes me want to care for it better too so it'll last forever. I've put it through its paces for the first 6 years I owned it bit over the last 3 have really put some love into it. New front struts New clutch New flywheel New cmc/slave New shifter bushings New idler tensioner pulley assembly New rear shocks Upgraded breaking system She's at 100k and here's to 200 and beyond!
I had a 1989 prelude and Accord, loved them never left me on the side of the road for years.I bet at least one of the two is still out there on the highway today, we just got a 2018 Accord I hope they didn't overcomplicate it with a turbo and CVT for the longevity.
I stlll have my 08 coupe as my daily driver. When I first got it I thought it was the best handling car on the planet, but its made me a better driver and now I agree, it has too much body roll. It also made me a Honda fan. I have an S2000 now too . ;)
Super good advice here. Put polyurethane LCA bushings up front, and rear 22mm Progress rear sway bar in the rear. It'll make your car sooooooo much happier to drive
I LOVE Honda's. I've owned 3 motorcycles, 2 ATV's, 3 Accords, 2 Civics, and 2 CRV's... and a Honda lawnmower. My current driver is a 2007 Civic SI Coupe with a K20. I LOVE the high revs and it handles like it's on rails. I used to drive 74 miles one way to work and needed reliable transportation that wasn't expensive to insure or used too much gas. All of my Honda vehicles have gone over 200k miles without any major problems.
My personal favorite is the K24 in the TSX. As much as I love the 06-11 Civic Si, I had to trade my Civic in because there was just nothing below 5,000 rpms. The K24A4 is a much more livable motor. I love having the ability to lug around town never breaking 3,000 on the tachometer but still being able to get that old school VTEC kick past 6,000 rpms. The K24A4 also revs to 7,800 when attached to a manual like my TSX which isn’t bad. It’s not 8,500, but I think it’s a good trade off. Kinda like the AP1 v AP2 S2000. The AP2 was a much better car when they bored out that motor.
Cecil L Yes, the .4 displacement does make it more daily driver friendly. I remember driving a 1.8l GSR back in the day and it was not enjoyable from dead stops. Torque >Me
Wow he thinks a lot like me. Even before I discovered this video I considered my FG2 ('06 coupe Si) to be the last true Honda. After the 8th generation, Honda stopped trying to make power through insane redlines and compression ratios, and started using more conventional means like increasing displacement or adding forced induction. This disheartened me, but friends and parents think I'm crazy. I'm glad to know there's someone out there who thinks the way I do. Great review.
There was another version of this civic called the mugen si, it had special ground affects and mugen rims, and was more high performance,it also had a bigger rear wing.
I get what you’re saying! Totally. Used to have an ‘07 Si and before that an integra GSR. I got an Elantra sport Turbo and it’s nothing like my old si, but it is definitely more practical in city driving with 200 hp AND tq. The transition to turbos are nice, but I’ll always miss the lovely sound of revving the snot out of that si on freeway entrances.
Owned an 8th and 9th gen Si. A 2016 6-6 Accord coupe, and now an FK8 Type-R. My 07 Si was easily the most overrated looking back on it. Yeah it was fun to beat on it. But even wringing out every ounce of power it had... It wasn't that great of a driving experience. It was either drive normally and have no power, or drive like a douchey teenager, draw attention and still not keep up with any V6 midsized sedan. Modded, is a different deal. On a track, or curvy back road. Fine. Buy even then, it still sits dead last on my personal pecking order of fun Hondas. But I think there are different types of Honda people. I just think the newer stuff tends to be better all around, and we romanticize the older stuff. Good video nonetheless.
I Went from the 8th gen to a 2015 Si. I loved my 09, but there’s just something about the 9th gen. Just the right amount of refinement without being too luxurious... Granted, I like it a lot better after the RBC intake manifold swap. Lol. The top end was lacking stock. But FBO, RBC, Tune, and chasis upgrades, it’s a fun canyon carver
I wish I could drive you car. I'm tuned and bolted with a k24 in my RSX, but I do really like the 9th gens a lot. They look awesome in and out. Have you posted on youtube>
Majin Broly this guy compared an Acura interior to a civics so I don’t take him seriously. I love my 9th gen civic regardless what the “last true civic” owners say haha
Thanks for your comments and analysis of the 2009 Honda Si model. My son gave me his when he moved across the country and didn't need a car in Seattle. One thing I will say for this year, the paint (black on mine) is chipping off so there's that. A good paint job will run about $3000.
I think most would agree that the 8th Gen Civic type R (FD2) was consider the "last true" type R--- high revving and made in Japan. I believe the 8th gens civic were also assembled in Japan, until the 9th-gen and onward were the civic was outsourced. The EK9 and the DC2 tupe r will always have a special place for my love of cars.
Look at that You drive manual well smooth clutch realase firm and precise shifts and not afraid to take a turn. P.s and it’s not a dual clutch transmission and under 500 horsepower I’m sure a lot of people would appreciate a common sport sedan review thanks Gary not a Honda guy but enjoyed your driving, and also your fine knowledge of the automobile
I don’t know, I feel like the 2012-2015 Si’s were really the last real Honda’s. They were the last with a K series. Some people say that they can’t hear VTEC at all with the K24 & that it’s only on the intake lobe bla bla bla. To be honest all you have to do on those cars is put an intake & swap the intake manifold to an RBC manifold and bam you hear the mighty VTEC crossover loud & clear. Although one thing i’ll say is that a 9th gen will never be as fun as an 8th gen because of it’s redline 🤧
Yes its uncomfortable to work on an 8th gen but it puts a smile on my face when i daily my FA5 just driving normal, but i just love the high revving scream the k20z3 has, in the future im planning on doing a Frankenstein build with a k20z3 head with a k24a2 block all motor.
Gary You really need to do a video over the starting point of Mitsubishi and its history. A lot of people dont realize that it is one of the oldest car companies ever and the company actually was founded in 1862 at the same time while the us was having a civil war. They were a machining company and a ship building company at that time. A lot of people dont realize that they are one of the biggest fighter jet companies of all time. Whith the Zero fighter jet in World war 2 and the new fighter jet X2 used by the Japanese air force. The X2 hands down actually is just as good as our f35 fighter jet. Mitsubishis machining tools and machines are actually dominate today. I used to be a machinist 5 years ago and we really utilized their equipment. A lot of people do not realise there electronic brands either. I really think you should do a beginning history of each major Japanese car companies on how they started. A lot of people think that these companies have only been around for 30-40 years.
Enjoyed the video overall. I don't know though...it's a complicated argument. 8th gen civics were also extremely cab-forward in design (like a minivan), which drew quite a bit of criticism at the time. The new 10th gen civics are back to the longer-hood, swept-back cabins, and are also lower in general, which is actually MORE reminiscent of the 90s designs. Some people are saying the new civics are actually the best they've been since the 90s. I wouldn't take it that far, but I would say the 10th gens are still "true Hondas"
I agree. I have the 2010 Si Sedan. Doubt I'll ever let it go. I really like the 7th gen but like u said it wasn't really popular. Again u hit the nail on the head with that tiny engine bay, it really sucks. A part from all that it's still a fun car. The body roll is almost not noticeable but like u said it's easily corrected with the aftermarket goodies.
i like the instrument cluster on the 8th gen the best, its even better than high-end heads-up displays, the 8th gen seats in alcatera suede look much better than the cheaper gortex like coverings on the 9th and 10th, also the real hand brake, and covered cup holders are great the ninth gen is sort of in the middle of both. probably the best or worse compromise depending on how you look at it, no high rpm vtec, no low end turbo, but a good balance between the two. I think I would like the eighth gen vtec high with the Turbos low and the 10th gen midrange. The 10th gets all of the new tech goodies minus a volume knob, the best standard brakes, ride and handling and insanely good mileage as long as you drive it as a non turbo 1.5 litre fit engined car as it is without the turbo, the worst looks and lag (without a tune) and is now the only front wheel drive performance coupe sold in america. All have very similar 0-60, 1/4 mile times, give or take a few tenths. You really cant go wrong with any, and all can be tuned after market, to customize it to your liking. The verdict on reliability is still not established on the 10th gen though, but I think it will be fine on cars without a 3rd party turbo tune. the one that is the most fun is the 8th gen imho, however, it's lack of torque can be felt with four passengers, but with one or two I have never been left wanting.
Well put on the cheap McPherson struts. The biggest issue with McPherson struts is that during cornering, the contact patch of the front tyres is reduced, causing the car to under-steer and even worse, causing premature tyre wear on the outside edges. McPherson struts basically ruins a car's cornering ability and tyre endurance.
I would say that the 6th generation EM1 with the double wishbone suspension and a B16A was the "last true Honda" since they went to the Strut Suspension (as mentioned)
I changed my pads & rotors for EBC yellow stuff and their best rotor and made a very noticeable difference on this light civic I ran a 14.9@95mph bone stock 👌 Was a faster car than my buddies old 2.0t Subaru wrx at the time
Well I bought my 9th gen. NA to be a daily. So I really appreciate that low end torque. It allows me to get on the freeway easily and still get 32 mpg, all the time. And when I get a wild hair...yo VTEC !
I like the gauge cluster. The 2009 Si had quite the good sound. The K20 in that car is really good, but the Type R (I currently own) has a gem of a engine. Still has that VTEC high revving feel, with the added bonus of a turbo. My S2000 does have a more raw engine feel, but the Type R is hard to beat.
FlyinGato I'd think so. It seems that people discredit the Civic Type R, but it seems to me to be the most liveable. Maybe it's just because I'm older now. Lol
I appreciate and respect your opinion. I have owned every gen of the Si but ironically not the 8th. I also owned an S2000 back in 02. Although the hi revving nature of Honda engines of the past was something special, I will be a blasphemer and praise the lower reviving/turbo charge direction Honda is taking. It is just nice having torque, period. I love my 10th gen and think it is the best Si to date. The 10th gen chassis is magical and I can't see the 8th being anything special but again I never owned the 8th but my 9th was nothing special.
I enjoyed the vid. Gained a sub. I have owned many performance vehicles from camaros to mazdaspeed to wrx and bmw 335. Obviously the power differential is quite dramatic from these cars but I own an 07 si coupe with a few mods and I have to say it is a blast to drive especially spirited driving. At the same time the low torque is a drag for the low rpm range but over 6k it's a whole different car
I can agree that this Si was about the last of what Honda used to be. Starting with that model, they seemed to lose their way with some intensely boring products until the last year or two with the introduction of the new Type R, Civic and Accord. While different, it's a new direction that's going well so far!
GT content you are a legend Sir....I'm letting you know from early l...I remember tthe Drift King himself K T saying that this Gen in sedan has a much stiffer body. He said that on some documentary when this car came out Best Motoring I think.
Same case with the Accords. The last Accord which i actually like is the 8th Generation Accord. With it's double wishbone suspension and huge space, comfortable but it can deliver if you ask for it. Unfortunately the newer Accords all used MacPhersons. And turbocharging just made the Honda tradition of high and smooth revving engines to an end. Unfortunately for cars these days, people are focused on the big numbers rather than the overall experience itself.
How does this guy NOT have more subscribers? His content is original, well thought out, and very interesting!
well this is my first time seeing this guy. im not really a Honda person, but i agree with him about the new Civic and Accord. the only thing i disagree with him on is the 8th gen being the last true Civic. maybe for the Si, but not the main car. i felt like the 8th gen regular Civic was the beginning of the end, but it didn't take full effect until the 9th gen and 10th gen Honda Civics. last the true Honda Civic in my opinion was the 7th gen and the 6th gen before that. so from 1996-2005 was the best years for the Civic.
Right? I learned a lot! thank you so much!
franz wetrfres because it’s a stupid ass stance that is biased.
And basically just makes who ever has an 8th gen say haha I have the best, who cares. It’s a Honda. I drive a 9th gen Si sedan, dude it’s a civic.
Subscribers doesn't measure quality.
I agree 100%, I'm still holding onto mine 7 years later
The mugen civic RR of this generation is the best civic ever, and some would say it is a decendent of the legendary integra dc2 type r
yea me to 2008 here with 34k miles
me also, 2009 58k miles
How many miles have you reached!??
Especially Si must be nice my 08 at 128 now
I had this car. Still one of my favorite Si’s. The K20 was the best sounding 4 cylinder I’ve ever heard. Body roll was a problem with this car, but I upgraded to the hfp suspension which fixed it.
Civic SI had class-leading handling stock
Finally. Someone else who understands. I used to have an ‘09 Si four door. I’m probably gonna get another one, because I miss that K20 so much.
Bacta Black we are on the same boat man.. i had a black 09 Si sedan that i miss dearly.. good luck of finding one..
Same here. I had a coupe in Black. I’m planning to get another si, but a sedan as a daily soon.
Very hard finding a stock one
DJD &c. Just bought one 07 coupe 128000 miles from a 55 year old cat that mostly kept it garage 5500 i hope i did a good deal
@@andyramz2703 not bad i would say
My 08 si has 120k, still runs great , og trans , interior is flawless, pulls hard , revs high , fun to drive. Im going to keep it , rebuild motor and trans if needed.
The only Civic that I ever liked was the EK9, not really a fan of them besides that car. But I respect Honda Civic though, it’s a shame that ricers give them a bad name. The Integra Type R is a legend though, and the NSX was historical. Good video.
Steve Thanks!
Love my 8th FA5. I would love to keep it forever... And at the rate it's going, likely won't be a problem. It's rock solid reliable as well as fun to drive hard. One of the best cars ever!
Also I appreciate a high revving naturally aspirated engine that revs beyond 7000 rpm
Ralph Smallblock hell yeah
I like having an engine that has all of its torque at 1800 RPM... because that’s where I use it day to day. No... I’m not talking about a V8 or a V6. I’m talking about the new base 1.5T engine in the tenth generation Civic. It stays in sixth gear above 40 MPH. Cruising... going up hill... passing.... passing up hill. yea but a 1.5t is gay. new civic has better performance stock in all areas but speed is not everything. the k20z3 sounded much better and had a sharper and longer power curve, it also has more options for upgrades. direct injection 4cyl turbos all sound the same and have mundane performance, the power is hardly anything to be jealous of as a golf gti will still accelerate harder even with basic bolt ons, and you won't be looking at ford gts without a deep wallet and addiction to e85. a k24 with a z3 head and a rotrex will consume a stock gt on a highway pull, and still get ~25 mpg cruising on 91
s d I have a civic si and a GT and you’re full of shit. My civic is at 309 HP and can’t even touch my GT. Nice try though.
your civic is weak and GT are shit cars. my 08 civic si with gt35r turbo makes 350 whp on 9 psi and I shit on mustangs.
Imports are taking over for this generation in my opinion they will be highly sought vs. american muscle for the millennial generation.
hello how is your 2011 civic si doing right now
Torque doing good still there, but now I have 70K on it.
That's cool you can appreciate this car and you own a GTR. Your a true enthusiast. I would be the same way.
Honda needs to bring back the Integra to compete with the gt86
Sergio Aguirre well I said Integra
Sergio Aguirre yes but honda need to discontinue the unreliable honda poilet and stop working on stupid emoji horns and work on the Integra
@Sergio Aguirre yeah but it doesn't have that awesome price point and that sweet sweet RWD of course it also has an engine that like fires the right way so yeah go Civic SI and Type R
How do you see Integra in the second or even third decade of the 21st century?
They are not gonna bring back the integra "rip"
4 years with my 08 SI , 73,miles ... i dont think i can sell this car
Any issues with rev hang?
The RSX has a forgiving engine bay to work in too
Sold my 2007 gray fa5 si sedan back in 2014.
Bought a 2013 mustang gt. Sold.
Bought a 2009 orange fa5 sedan in 2019 for 6k.
what didn't u like about the gt? it has the 5.0 coyote high rev motor? revs higher than a k24 at 7500 rpm...
Four years ago you posted this comment. Did you ever get another motor built? Also, I think the 9th gen is the last true Civic ever built lol
I'm also interested in the other motor
I actually like the two tier dash. The speedometer is right in my line of sight when I'm driving, so I don't have to look down and search for my speed. It's always in my peripheral vision.
Having lived with this same car (redline orange, though) for 5+ years, I can agree that this is a great Honda. Maybe even the last great Honda (though I agree with other comments that if that's what we're thinking, it's really the FD2 that's the last great Honda).
I disagree with the reviewer on a few points:
The gauge cluster is not awkward; it's superior.
Corey Jones Great to hear your experience.
Ughhh the annoying well I'll survive a car crash argument. Why not just also say how much more mpg you get
My 2014 si coupe is awesome. Granted I never driven a 8th gen si.
I’m a mustang guy but I love how informative this guy is, very interesting video! Subscribed!!
Thanks!
Mustang from a Honda to a mustang lol 😞
I'm literally in the same boat, except switched lol... Integra to mustang to Integra... I miss my mustang, Integra is fun and revs to 8k but only makes 175 crank lol. Mustang reved to 8k also and made 800 crank lol....
Mustang -_- once I get older Id rather be found in a sports sedan
@@thefuzzypickle8277 you'd rather be found? Who are you trying to impress? Get whatever car you want cause you love it, who cares what anyone thinks 🤷🏼♂️
Such a good color for that car. I love the four door white Si's
Great insight and data.
Thanks.
Good post
I recently bought the 10th gen SI and I personally like the way it drives. The low end torque is there and if you want to tune it up you don’t have to do much. A stage 1 tune can get you 230whp and almost 300wtq
How much is a stage 1
$640
yea I'm running that much. The most you can get now with E40, FBO, clutch, and new turbo exhaust turbine is 300whp and 360 wheeltorque
You got a new turbo with the 10th gen si. Where did you get it from?
Not a new turbo same turbo but with a different exhaust turbine. vittuned.com/honda-1-5l-engine-turbo-upgrade.html
I had a 2009 civic si coupe in redline orange, oh... how I miss it :/
I own a S2000 now, but I am 100% sure I will look for an 8th gen again in the future. Hopefully a sedan for more practical use.
The JDM Type-R Sedan Version Was The Truly Last Great Honda.. ( Not The European Type-R Hatchback )
Jason Andersen True and also the EP3 european Type-R.
The FD2
FN2R is a shitty Type R. It’s based on Honda Jazz. Still the FD2R is the truly last Type R
Leonardo Andre Wijaya #TRUTH
Too bad Honda never sends their best Honda's to North America
I agree. I own a 2008 Si Sedan in black like the one you drove. I cashed in a one year old 2014 Focus ST for it, and I have zero regrets. Best all-around drivers car I've owned, and I've had my fair share of 'sporty' cars.
Disagree, the 9th gen has the last vtec engine before they went turbo. 2015 is truly the last year we got an na vtec engine.
Agree too. Last SI was the 9th. Easy to mod, revs to 7600 stock, has VTEC
The 9th gen is good too, they fucked it up with the turbo and v tech delete
I wish I got that 😔. I love the 8th Gen Si’s. I feel like most have been beat up now. So I’m thinking of getting the 10th Gen Si in the future. I know no VTEC and no high revs but it’s still a great car to drive. I currently have a 2009 civic coupe Lx with ~120,000 miles
My brother has an 06 Fg2 and I really liked the FG4 so I had to get that but 8th and 9th gens are such amazing cars!!
Had love this video and that you used my exact car. Makes me proud of my 09 FA5. Makes me want to care for it better too so it'll last forever. I've put it through its paces for the first 6 years I owned it bit over the last 3 have really put some love into it.
New front struts
New clutch
New flywheel
New cmc/slave
New shifter bushings
New idler tensioner pulley assembly
New rear shocks
Upgraded breaking system
She's at 100k and here's to 200 and beyond!
I have an S2000 now too . ;)
Nice. I'd like to drive an S2000 some day. I currently own a k24 RSX-S. Honda makes fun cars no doubt
They dont make Honda like they used to. I brought a 4th Gen Legacy GT and could never be happier.
Even though the EP3 is the bastard stepchild of all the Si's I still love my little car. Best shifter placement ever.
John Olson the Type R motor on EP3 is also a straight bolt on affair for 4K more
My personal favorite is the K24 in the TSX.
Torque >Me
K24 block + K20 head = best of both worlds.
Hey buddy, 1st gen TSX had K24A2
Yea. The TSX are in it's own league tho.
Best video of the SI!!! Just spent five minutes looking for your video
I love the 8th gen civic. My 06 Si Coupe has 250k miles and she’s still running strong.
I too feel like the 8th gens were the last real civics.
you still have your si? you should not get rid of it
I totally agree and tell people this all the time, the k20z3 was the last performance engine Honda made, all the rest just appeal to the masses 😪
Still have my 8th gen si. Did an jdm conversion to it.
still got it bro??
Used to always play ball against this guy and lose. Much love and great channel! Subbed!!!
Thanks bro!
Omg...8th gen fan boys will not shut up about "the last true civic SI". It's not the last true SI. But I still respect the 8th gen. Dont hate me. Lol
Majin Broly this guy compared an Acura interior to a civics so I don’t take him seriously. I love my 9th gen civic regardless what the “last true civic” owners say haha
Aces bro a man with a supercar very down to earth .
One of the reviews that influenced me the most on picking up my si and I went with fg2 #8thgen
I totally agree with you. Beautiful car and great review. One thing you forgot is the rev hang.
Darryl Ramos ...thin paint, horrible visors on earlier models.
I got a 14.7 at 97mph back in the day with my stock fg2.. also what’s wrong with the cluster?? I love how it’s laid out
good run
Thanks for your comments and analysis of the 2009 Honda Si model. My son gave me his when he moved across the country and didn't need a car in Seattle. One thing I will say for this year, the paint (black on mine) is chipping off so there's that. A good paint job will run about $3000.
Yes. There are clearcoat issues with this generation.
My '09 Si sedan was assembled in Canada - I think most of the sedans were at least.
Canada
Love my 2009, plan to keep it and my 99 prelude for life 👍
I love getting it right there before Doyle’s! Knew exactly where you were once I saw that road! Nice vid
Miss my 8th gen. There's something so special about a high revving NA motor.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Idk I like my 2013 Si Sedan! To me the 9th gen was the last.
ODB Legion I think so also
K24z7 is a good engine too. My opinion...
9th gens look better too in my opinion
What’s wrong with the 2012-2015 civic Si or the 2012-2015 Acura ILX.
I believe the last true Honda was the s2000.
Your channel is fantastic thank you for your hard work on these vids.
I’ve rewatched this video like ten times.
Glad I have mine 8th gen and never getting rid of it till the wheels fall off I love that thing and glad I bought it
totally agree its not that I dont like the new ones but I think a fwd with high reving NA engine and light chasis was the classic formula
True statement...last of the true Honda's...I have a 2011 fa5 si...I'm holding onto it.
Last true Honda was the 2001 Acura Integra Type R in Champ white ! Imo... Love ur content btw.
Thanks!
very good and honest review, I hope to see your channel reach over 500k then 1m subs soon , very very very informed Honda Guru @gt Content tyvm
Yes its uncomfortable to work on an 8th gen but it puts a smile on my face when i daily my FA5 just driving normal, but i just love the high revving scream the k20z3 has, in the future im planning on doing a Frankenstein build with a k20z3 head with a k24a2 block all motor.
I own the 8th gen Si too.
Love this generation. Best Si in my opinion
you still have your si fam? I got a fa5 too
@@markymark535 i do bro, still owning one : )
don't get rid of it fam. its a gem. ima build mine. well just cosmetic looks
@@markymark535 i don't have cosmetic look yet ! Give a follow on my ig: yoseph.kk
I’m glad I just got a hold of a 2 owner 2008 Honda Civic si coupe
JDM Ju5 I just got a 2008 civic si sedan from the original owner who was in his 40s . No mods what so ever .
It would be very informative and would actually amaze a lot of people watching your videos- Jon Morasco Sheridan, Indiana
+JBMSTRIKER71 I'll keep keep it in mind. I was going to do a Lamborghini history, so it falls within that scope.
Holy shit man I thought i was the only one who knew that stuff lmao its good to see other people who appreciate mitsubishi.
Love your content just as much as I love civics
Mee Wanton Thank you!
i like the instrument cluster on the 8th gen the best, its even better than high-end heads-up displays, the 8th gen seats in alcatera suede look much better than the cheaper gortex like coverings on the 9th and 10th, also the real hand brake, and covered cup holders are great
the ninth gen is sort of in the middle of both. probably the best or worse compromise depending on how you look at it, no high rpm vtec, no low end turbo, but a good balance between the two.
I want to see a 2012 Honda Civic SI Coupe on the channel!
The last true Honda was the s2000
Robert Lee spoken like a true fanboy
More specifically, the AP1 F20c
The s2000 was unlike any honda
Tony Wells the s2000 sucks ass
Honda fan boys....explain why the ap1 is better? Because it revs higher and makes less torque? Always living up to the lawn mower stereotype huh
Awesome video! I’m just about to buy a 2011 Civic Si coupe people always talk about the rev hang… didn’t look so bad in this one. 👍
I sold it a few years ago. I want to buy it back!
I would say that the 6th generation EM1 with the double wishbone suspension and a B16A was the "last true Honda" since they went to the Strut Suspension (as mentioned)
Great video !
Love your content brotha.
I like your work man keep it up
the 2008 Mugen was beautiful
"VTEC Just kicked in" lmaoo
So true. Thanks for making this video.
I changed my pads & rotors for EBC yellow stuff and their best rotor and made a very noticeable difference on this light civic
I ran a 14.9@95mph bone stock 👌
Was a faster car than my buddies old 2.0t Subaru wrx at the time
Well I bought my 9th gen. NA to be a daily. So I really appreciate that low end torque. It allows me to get on the freeway easily and still get 32 mpg, all the time. And when I get a wild hair...yo VTEC !
Forgetting about the Accord Coupe V6 6 speed. A whole different animal.
I got a 9th gen 6-6 coupe too nice little daily
yeah not much aftermarket support and single overhead cam I had 07 6-6 it was quick for stock
Fwd v6 lol
dannyboy768 whats funny? Those new accord v6 accords are no joke.. pull on wrx stock for stock
yup that was my first car only it was an auto. Shit was fast for a cheap 4 grand honda. 0-60 in like 6.5
Your reviews are awesome 🙏🏾
I like the gauge cluster. The 2009 Si had quite the good sound. The K20 in that car is really good, but the Type R (I currently own) has a gem of a engine. Still has that VTEC high revving feel, with the added bonus of a turbo. My S2000 does have a more raw engine feel, but the Type R is hard to beat.
FlyinGato I'd think so. It seems that people discredit the Civic Type R, but it seems to me to be the most liveable. Maybe it's just because I'm older now. Lol
You got an s2000 you good
I appreciate and respect your opinion.
The 8th gen drives like a slightly nicer rsx type s
I enjoyed the vid. Gained a sub. I have owned many performance vehicles from camaros to mazdaspeed to wrx and bmw 335. Obviously the power differential is quite dramatic from these cars but I own an 07 si coupe with a few mods and I have to say it is a blast to drive especially spirited driving. At the same time the low torque is a drag for the low rpm range but over 6k it's a whole different car
Colin Haslam Thanks bro!
I'm a simple man, I see automotive RUclipsr who has scales, I sub.
😂😂😂
I love my 2009 Civic LX and I'm saving up for an FA5 Si
