    Robert, ya know, the most amazing part of these videos is that you are probably right handed, you work with your left hand, and continue a coherent monologue describing what you are doing. The amount of time you’ve saved me by providing these demonstrations, and your generally good nature. Bless you!

    I saw a red metallic 760 Turbo sitting in front of the coffee shop today. It was beautiful, not a scratch or a ding on it. The driver's side power window was stuck down but the rest looked cherry, literally. I wish I had room in the garage.

    Hi Robert. I just wanted to thank you for your dedication to keeping these vehicles on the road. I recently joined the Volvo community with a 344k mile 850 turbo. I was getting strange oil leaks after driving it for a week and this ended up being the issue. I was able to replace the system and keep this thing on the road as my A to B car. Thanks.

    Just finished this job on my '96 850 turbo wagon. After the job was complete up I still had problems (inflating glove from crankcase, smoke from dipstick) which were fixed by doing a thorough cleaning of the PTC valve. This video helped a bunch - thanks Robert.

    These systems are designed to clog to sell more servicing. I use 3/4" Braided hose. Expensive but tougher than it'll ever need to be and because it's bigger than the factory 3/8" doens't clog. The smaller one I do in 8mm which again is 4 times the diam, so you'll struggle to clog as well.

    A tip for releasing fuel pressure:
    Before you get started with anything else, pull the fuse for the fuel pump and start the car. After the engine dies, crank it once or twice more. Voila! Fuel pressure is almost gone. Still a good idea to depress the Schraeder valve with a rag underneath, but it won't be much fuel left in the system.

    Hi Robert, Thank you for the video on replacement of the PCV system (Kit). I followed instructions to the T and I also watched your video on post PCV problems. My car doesn't sound right after I completed the PCV replacement. My 1995 Volvo 850 turbo (152,000mi) ran perfectly before the PCV replacement except for the carbon exhaust smell in the cabin. I will check the bolt and bracket on the manifold to see if I am getting air in there. I have to keep my foot on the gas peddle and even at that something in the engine has a popping sound or missing sound. I thought it was the spark plug wires loose or broken since I pulled two and the installation came off so I replaced all the wires with new ones. It still has the same popping sound when revved up and I cant keep an idle. The car just dies. I'm at my wit's end however, I am not giving up. Next day I'm off work (next) Monday I will look into your post PCV problems in detail. The throttle is working so I know its not that. Thanks for any feedback.

      I did the PCV system replacement. Had some issue especially with the throttle and vacuum hoses. I have a 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo and I want a GOOD vacuum schematic to check my vacuum hoses. I need to know what this vacuum is called because I don't see a hose that attaches to this hard plastic tube that goes to the front of EGR and under the side of the radiator fan (attached to side of the fan). A round rubber holder holds the vacuum there, There is a nipple on the other side and it does suck air when running. Does that hard plastic hose connect on that nipple? I may have lost the rubber connector to that nipple and hard plastic vacuum tube. What size rubber connector is that to connect the two together. I have looked online for good vacuum hoses pictures for my car. Also, does this cause hard brakes when under 1RPM? Seems normal braking on acceleration above 1RPM. The throttle was adjusted like your video. Thank you

      Hi Robert & Adrian - I attempted a PCV service on my '00 V70 and it was not easier - it has a banjo bolt with two coolant hoses attached to the manifold, which needs to be removed and cleaned. Did you make a video of how to clean this? - some sites say that it's easier to access it by loosening the alternator than the manifold. What is your opinion ?

    I used a silicone radiator hose to do this, still holding up about 40,000 miles later. The hose is plenty stiff enough to not collapse under the tiny amount of vacuum the PCV system should have.

    • @RobertDIY

      +looncraz the hard part about using other hoses is preventing kinks.

      Robert DIY Yes, no doubt! I tried using PVC, which did work, but was a major pain.
      I also though about installing a pressure relief valve (already have several 1PSI valves - and even some 0.1PSI valves - basically just check valves) but can't bring myself to do it for some reason. They would simply vent to atmosphere in case the pressure pulsed too high.

    Hi Robert, at 13:16 you are showing the valve cover with the oil bath on top. I'm pretty that is not normal. I actually have the same problem here. I think that is the reason why the oil usage is a bit high. Could it be that the PCV system needs to get serviced or is it something else?

    If you undo the fuel line “mounts” one is held by a t25 on the cam cover, one by a 10 behind the engine, you can pull and swing the fuel rail over the top of the engine without spilling/wasting any fuel

      Correct. You can do it that way. However, you're now removing the fuel rail from the intake manifold along with unplugging all the fuel injectors which risk more issues than simply leaving the rail in the intake manifold.

    Hi Robert, thanks for putting out this useful info about Volvo's! I bought a 97' 850 GLT wagon about 4 months ago. It had the PCV done by a Volvo enthusiast mechanic not long before I got it. I did the glove test and it sucks the glove in on idle but if I rev the engine it will inflate the glove and then suck it back in when it returns to idle. Is this normal? Thanks once again.

But a volvo mechanic that serviced the car for the previous owner said he recently did the PCV system, and he showed me putting a vacuum gauge on the dip stick shaft, and said if the PCV was having issues "it would be going nuts". I have seen you videos and they are really helpful. I have recently bought a 2000 volvo s40 and I was reading around on how to reset the ECU. I'm thinking about doing it so the car starts learning my way of driving. Would you say that it's a good idea?

    I have a question, I looked at a used volvo today 2011 c70 with the 2.5 turbo.
    After taking the car for a long test drive when the car was shut off I went to look at the oil on the dip stick and there was a lot of smoke coming out of the dipstick tube .would that indicate that the pcv system needs to be serviced

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  4 года назад

      No. Hot oil will smoke to ambient air.

    I let my 97 850 turbo sit for 2 years and now it smokes like crazy.. it smoked a little after idling at lights for 2 mins before I parked it... Now its like a smoke stack coming out. I had a craigslist mechanic look at it told me pcv was bad.. Can I use this cheap URO kit I found on amazon? Has 180k miles.. Mechanic said turbo might be shot.. Do the turbo's go bad on these after a while? Thanks man

    hey Rob, why do you pop fuel injector rail anyway, could you just leave it in place and just pull it out all together with the intake manifold?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  7 лет назад

      +luktish it has that fuel return line pipped between the rail and manifold.

    • @luktish
      @luktish 7 лет назад

      Thanks for responding, I see only wires connecting each injector (removable), and one fuel line on the left (17mm) providing the fuel for the rail, mine is s70 98, none turbo (reg. gas), so I don"t see this line going under the rail (8:21m of your video). Unless I"am missing something? btw this 17mm fuel connector, does it need some Teflon tape or anything upon reconnecting?

      Do you make the copper pipes for n/a models? I'll be replacing the PCV on my 96' 850 later this year, and this would be a great addition to have. Let me know how much you would like for it. I'll be passing through Albuquerque later next month, so maybe we could meet up to say hi and that would also avoid the expensive shipping.

    Is there any way to flush that system i had a new PVC system put on my 98 s70 turbo 3 years ago and its stopped up already why would these systems stop up so fast?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  3 года назад +1

      Are you sure it's plugged up? You should only do the glove test with the engine warm.

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  3 года назад

      Poor quality oil or short driving trips usually causes them to get clogged up. When oil doesn't reach full operating temp weekly, condensation will build up in the system.
