Exposing Real Estate Seminars

- This is easily the scammiest business model that I cover on this channel. What is it? The seminar model for extracting as much money from customers as possible.
This is part 1 since there's enough to cover for at least 2 parts. I mostly focus on the Nudge LLC lawsuit, while also showing clips from an investigative journalist reporting on a Rich Dad Poor Dad event hosted by Robert Kiyosaki.

I fell for this. It was a choice that seemed reasonable. Ended up hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. For some reason only now do I realize that that was totally fucked up to have an 18 year old do. Shit that's terrible. Thanks for calling this out. Learnin' something new every day! I'm down to help with the demons by the way. Let's take em down by educating people. My channel is small and I'm still learning. Going to keep making videos and getting better with every one.
it's frustrating because an ethical way to sell is to indicate who the product IS NOT good for. if they actually said that, nearly no one would sign up
Oh wow sorry but hopefully you can see a scam better now. Anyone can be scammed though
How did an 18 year old get that much in credit available to them?
I fell for it too with fortune builder with Than I believe that’s his name I learned my lesson now I don’t pay into anything
@@SpencerCornelia this is a great habit! Thanks for sharing brother. Still on that crypto grind and you know there's plenty of sketch characters here. Trying to be something authentic.
We should recap our challenge at the end of the year. Been a slower start than desired but am getting back on track 😏
I think of it this way:
If all the "Get Rich" claims made by fake gurus and MLMS were 100% true, imagine how many millionaires, multi millionaires and billionaires there would be! Every man and his dog would be rich!
The economy would be crazy.
Exactly.
The economy was crazy. Good times. Democrats fucked it up.
It's not even about selling these people a course, the goal is actually to take ALL their money + anything they can put on a credit card. That's just scary...
course selling on roids
the "elite mastermind" usually never got a price tag. its not "how much is it" its more like "how much do you have..exactly"
scamming you out of $1000 is not enough...
they want EVERYTHING u have (including EVERYTHING you can borrow)
What grates my nerves is when Cleo or your neighbor does it America's warned to watch out for these kind of people. Their pictures are held on screen with criminal histories. When billionaires or banks do it a thousand times a day no one says a word.
Bitcoin is the most ridiculous billionaire scheme known to man. Let me get this straight. Not only do you have a new kind of currency, more valuable than any current currency, which may revolutionize the way currency is backed, but you're willing to make it available to the poorest before you earn 100s of trillions of dollars of it??? I refuse to waste time telling you the miracle super computer formula. What makes it valuable is people trade it Ryan. So shut up.
this is no different from a college
@@Coolnventions college is a scam!!
I have never seen such a beautifully delivered use of the word 'butt-plug.' As a mortgage banker, I have to lead people away from these real estate seminar scams ALL THE TIME. I'm going to send out a link to your video to my investor clients - you make the case much better than I can. Thank you for all that you do!
Btw, the entire bizopp sales industry, that morphed into PMI and EMS, basically originates from the Utah sales floors that were selling infomercial and seminar leads in the 80s. In 1984, tv was deregulated, and thats when the first infomercials started popping up. Tony robbins is basically the product of this, as well as others like don lapre and tom vu.
Funny story, I met a bunch of those real estate seminar sales floor guys when I was in prison in Utah🤣 They all had range rovers and where on steroids at 22 and by 27 where in prison for meth, heroin and or theft. That fast money lifestyle on those sales floors ruined a lot of young guys lives.
It's all from Dale Carnegie who turned all business interactions into transactions
@@sherbetyeezys8648 Why were you in prison in Utah?
@@KippinCollars My first DUI and I did 36 months😂 This was like 15 years ago and back then they where sending everyone to prison. I actually do flip houses for a living. Here's all you need to know:
1. get a realtor you trust
2. have enough to get a traditional mortgage from a bank (not private lenders)
3. do good and proper work - if you pay a fair market price, and make proper upgrades, youll basically earn as much as a contractor doing the work for someone privately.
4. don't expect exponential returns unless the market changes
5. there is no such thing as a diamond in the rough. the market is competitive and you get what you pay for.
6. buy and holding (renting) is the goal
7. ^ rent out and save for 2 years and youll have enough for a second property and the rental income will cover your mortgage income approval
8. 3 properties is enough quit your traditional job and have a business that sustains expanation (rental income covers new mortgages + down-payments)
there's really no secret and it takes a lot of luck hard work and existing capital. These seminars won't tell you how to obtain those.
And all these years, t thought it was the law of attraction, magical thinking and wah la, I'd be rich!
Dude these are scary. I got hooked on all these flipping shows and decided to attend one of these seminars put on by a well-known flipper/ former professional football player.
In a room of about 60-70 people being sold some get rich quick material, my BS meter was pegged and I was one of the only ones that left after the pitch. They sent another dude after me to catch me in the lobby and try to bring me back. I lied and told them I was only there to kill some time and that I was actually broke. Then the dude offered to help improve my credit score to help me get on my feet and wanted to coach me through signing up for some credit cards back in the banquet room. Such a nice guy... I hard noped out of there.
A few lessons that haven't steered me wrong yet:
- If a person has a sure fire "plan" or "can't miss stock/crypto" or algorithm that actually works, that person sure as hell won't be advertising it to you out of the goodness of their hearts.
- You can learn almost everything you want to know for free at your local library. It's an undervalued gold mine. Take advantage of it.
- Trust your gut when a situation feels sketchy.

These same seminars that people attend are often times advertised on RUclips
Hahaha I actually attended one of those fortune builders events and sure enough by the time they got around to the price (50k) the dude encouraged everyone to raise the credit card limits, beg friends and family for money "anything you gotta do".
I'm sure he said more but I was halfway out the door as soon as he gave the final price lol
Wow thats so evil to tell them to put it on a credit card. 50k at 20% apr smh. Monsters
I attended one of these so called Rich dad poor dad real estate seminars.
95% of the info session were just anecdotes from people (who weren’t there) that supposedly benefitted from the program.
The rest was some basic info that was helpful for someone who had never heard of investing in real estate.
So cringe.
Same here..always hurt me to see people go to the back and sign up for $10,000+ package and come back to their seats all proud.
I went to a garbage seminar like that and it was like "if you act now, we'll knock out 30% of the price... Then there's a plant sales guy or girl who is in the audience who "Acts" interested and begins to "sign up" to try and pull the real attendees there. It's so worthless
@@thaprofessor5861 Some of them might have been actors. They have plants in there that sign up and act excited as a way of riling up the real potential customers.
Robert Kyosaki was using this same "bait and switch" upsell program, even back in 2009. I only went to the 1 day "Intro" seminar for $500.00, and refused to go any further, when I found that after 7 Hours of instruction, we were taught NOTHING about real estate investment, and were only sold an upsell for $10K to $50K, at the end of the night. If I had $50K, I would actually BUY REAL ESTATE, not give to them for more classes. For weeks after this, phone sales people from Kyosaki's boiler room in Utah kept calling me, trying to get me to invest at least $10K.
It’s funny the cost of the advanced education is literally enough to put a down payment on a property.

It’s a shame how RUclips allows these crap commercials
I went through one of these initial free meetings then the 3 day crash course on real estate and financial markets. It was atrocious and the upselling was ridiculous. What really frustrated me is that the room was comprised entirely of undereducated minorities who were sold this dream of easy success and then pressured to purchase these ridiculous courses that cost upwards of $40,000. It sickens me how immoral the entire thing was and the fact that they used a minority success story to trick them. This was the Rich Dad, Poor Dad course.

I got some serious flashbacks. My dad got deep in with these real estate guru scams during the recession and maxed out the family credit card to go to one of these seminars. A while ago I read "The Tipping Point". There's a chapter about the incident in the New York subway where a guy that got attacked killed all his aggressors. He got arrested, but people cheered at him because at that time, police was super inneffective in New York. That started a spree of people making justice for themselves. That was the tipping point. Police got so scared of the anarchy that was coming they started to do their job and now New York is now a pretty safe city. People should start taking justice to their own hand, because authorities won't do anything. Every scammers should be doxxed and beaten down.
Raw spencer vs funny spencer, I cant choose! Must have both.
This sounds like the same business model the Church of Scientology uses.
I worked for Nudge and you aren't far off. The company was a money machine for members of the Mormon church. If you weren't a church member you'd make barely minimum wage. If you served the church as a bishop or higher it was an almost guarantee mid 6 figure income. I was so happy when I saw the lawsuit. They pulled half the company in for a meeting and fired all of us on the spot. Best day of my life.
Spencer, I can't tell you how sad this makes me.
Years ago my employer rented a conference room from the Double Tree hotel in Ontario California to host our annual safety symposium. I am guessing there were about 400 of us that attended which gives you an idea of how large the conference room was.
In the conference room next to us was one of the very seminars you are talking about in this video. I peeked inside a couple of times and saw many young couples looking through thick binders while some blowhard stood up front bragging about the money he made in the Southern California housing market. It made me very sad because most of the young couples attending the seminar don't stand a chance. They appeared to be hard working people looking for ways to suppliment their incomes and had fallen victims to this jack ass who knows they are not real estate savvy. Assuming there were 200 young couples in that room that paid a lot to attend that seminar, he made a grip of money. All of those couples are now that much poorer. It makes me sick.to.think about it. Not to mention they probably had to take a day off work and hire a baby sitter just to attend that worthless seminar.
I know that snake oil salesmen have always been with us. And there is a sucker born every minute. But, damn it, don't tsrget young couples already struggling. That is like douche nozzle of the year material

My content is more advanced than beginner related if you take a closer look at my channel and always put down get rich quick and the content is not copy/paste at all. You have clearly done 2 seconds of research to conclude that while using the assumption all course sellers are the same mindset. Many course sellers are exceptional courses, it is the few percentage of bad courses give the space a bad name as they market the most to the masses with unrealistic claims. This is exactly what we see in spencer's channel on a frequent basis.
I get it though, you are not wrong. I sell courses, but to sell courses you need to market them consistently. I don't, my channel is dead because I don't need the money from it. Most channels that sell courses do regular videos, I don't. Again, this comes from your lack of understanding of the industry and marketing in general. Ahhh yes I went to a workshop like this with Than Miller. They had me call my credit card company and ask to raise my credit limit. They got me for $3500 but never again tho!
Almost fell for one of these seminars myself. It was one of the Rich Dad senimars. I had some faith in the name because I read Robert Kiyosaki’s book in college for one of my electives and since the seminar was free I though, “why not see what they got to offer?”
There was a guy with thick Texas accent talking for most the time. Every other sentence this guy made ended with “and that’s how I roll…” The dude was literally budget Mathew McConaughey! Lol
He built it all up smoothly talking his way through the whole time by sharing a few personal stories and some knowledge that he wrote out on a white board. I was taking notes and felt there was gaps in what he was saying. At one point near the end he tried to share a book on real estate that Robert (supposedly) wrote and said “the first personal to stand up will get a free copy!” I wasn’t the lucky to stand up fast enough but the guy who did proceed to pay for the course after the seminar. They wanted our credit card number and to call our banks to extend our credit limit before we proceed to pay. This signaled the biggest red flag in my head if their weren’t enough already!
I decided to walk out instead thinking if I really want to go into real estate I should be able to look up and study the rest of the knowledge I need. At least I had a good foundation based on the notes I took. Which I later found out don’t make much sense anyways and some you simply can not do at all by federal law or a few state laws.
Needless to say I felt I dogged a bullet on this one since I was between jobs at the time and wasn’t quite ready to drop from 300$ to 900$ just to fill the blanks of my notes. But if I was desperate and felt my money was enough to spare, I wouldn’t be surprised to have checked out the course myself.
Make no mistake these seminars do give you just enough information to make you feel like it’s applicable but the rest is found in the paid course. The guys who talk during these seminars all say they where students to until they started making money but given how well they talk though it all it’s pretty obvious they are salesman pulling all the tricks in the book to keep you hooked on the course they are there to sell.
I am glad Spencer is here to give voice and expose these scams that really should be illegal given how most people don’t go into these seminars if they are already living within their means.
Easily one of the worst scams to exist born out of the growing income inequality in our society.
I'm part of the 5% that made it learning from these Gurus and now I'm a coach for FortuneBuilders. (Full disclosure) Love Spencer and I'm a subscriber. Anyway, it is difficult to make it in Real Estate, the real challenge is finding the deal. You Must be passionate, disciplined and long suffering, most people don't have what it takes. Do you teach wholesaling and rehabbing? interested in doing it.
I’m going to chime in. Because I am a real estate investor. I build new homes then sell them. You do need to raise your credit card limit. Take out a credit line with the mortgage company/bank. Unless you are sitting on a good chunk of liquid capital. You will need cash in the beginning to get the project rolling. It’s almost impossible to start with zero money.

This reminds me of Tom Vu's ads in the late 80s before he got exposed. He used joint ventures with students on selling distressed properties that were far below market value.
All the manifesting gurus charge about $500 and up to come to a seminar that tells you how to visualize what you want and meditate. I was interested to see how much a ticket cost for one guru and it was about $752 it's one of the best scams out there.
