Getting a new digital camera can be a big commitment time & money-wise. If you like the digicam , great...you have a little useful back-up camera. If not, you barely spent any money
You gotta get a Fujifilm digital camera man. Grab a used xpro2 or something. At least rent one and if you hate it no one has to know you even touched one 😆
Maybe you or Jason have covered this before...but how do you always find abandoned spots while road tripping in CA or elsewhere? Are you part of some reddit/forum/secret society?

One of the reasons I got a digital M (M240) is that it has JUST the right amount of control and convenience for a digital camera. None of the other digitals that I have or had really compel me in the same way...well, maaaaybe the Sigma sd Quattro, but that's a whole other rabbit hole. The only downside is that it's so close to how I shoot 35mm film and with DxO FilmPack 6, I don't pick up my 35mm film bodies as much. BUT, it has made me crave shooting the Bronica ETRSi WAAAAAY more as it's the right size and hits a quality level the digital M doesn't have. My advice is borrow somebodies digital M and let them shoot your M6 on a photowalk or meetup and you'll instantly know if one is right for you.

(You can do that on most fuji cameras, but the newer ones have more options for recipe adjustment, and the X-Pro 3 is probably the most “film like” camera. Personally I prefer the X-T3. That camera has the best flippy screen ever, in my opinion).

If you want the "film photography" in a digital camera vide that won't make you sell a kidney to get it (you know which camera company I'm talking about here) then I would recommend the Fujifilm X-T2, X-T3 or X-T4. You can adapt so many lenses (I'm talking vintage including your Leica lenses) to it as well as using the various manual focus tools to get that "film photography" vibe plus you can turn off the EVF simulation so when you look through it your experience is the same as if you were using a film camera or DSLR. The only downside with Fuji cameras is for what ever reason when you import the RAW files into Lightroom it adds a value of 40 to the sharpening so I use my own pre-set to undo that when I import into Lightroom.
Subscriber from Cleveland here. It's always fun to get an outsider's perspective on familiar sights! Glad you got to see some good bits. I wonder if filmophiles such as yourself would have more fun shooting digital with the screen turned off, or covered with gaff tape, or with a flippy-screen in closed-up mode, etc. Just to keep the digital shoot-chimp loop entirely off the table. You'd be stuck doing things at film pace, you'd have to invest your energy and consideration _ahead_ of each shot, just like with film.
Sheesh, great travel pics as always! Always wanted to try a GA645 myself. Maybe someday I will...though I can't /quite/ justify it but some days I come close....If you want a portable 645 camera but with manual controls...the Bronica RF645 is pretty awesome (albeit very pricey and only has 3 or 4 lenses). And well if you want much cheaper, the ancient Zeiss Super Ikonta 531 are so small and cute and likely take wonderful photos but ofc there is no meter or anything so it's a fussy experience. (but really I don't think you could get much smaller than one of those in the realm of medium format, so very portable) I need to put out youtube videos so random folk in camera stores will recognize me....
Yes my favorite film camera that I own! I do hate that the focus seems to be only in the middle of the photo though which is annoying when taking pictures of people and their heads are at the top of the photo otherwise love it!
Xpro3 is a fairly close experience to film when it comes to user experience. So long as you only use OVF. Obviously not the same, but it's great and addictivr
I shoot a lot of film, shooting a Fujifilm (especially a GFX with adapted old) glass is the closest you can get. Sony cameras are soooo capable but soooo uninspiring as well.
No effing way!!! This is awesome dude, that was actually my own personal GA645i, Phil is a great friend of mine and we traded cameras a few months ago, hope you enjoyed it!
If you can find a CLEAN copy of a leica M9 with a sensor replaced in 2016 or later, then it will be a similar experience to film. It wont be the same, but it might scratch the itch. The blues on that CCD sensor are incredible. Someone online said, "If Fuji ever made digital slide film, it would look like this" and that's about the truest comparison. Complete with the dynamic range blow out over negatives.
My problem I have with it sometimes is that I shoot a pic and it comes back underexposed? Maybe I should shoot it at a lower number than box speed. I’ve heard that’s a good idea anyway some of your pics look overexposed and I love that look
I have the Leica M10-d an you get the same feeling of wondering if you nailed your shot as you have on film. The look is still different in the end but it’s close.
When you shoot digital, you'll stand there and retake the shot multiple times, trying to get it perfect...and that's a frustrating process. With film, you take the picture and move on. Digital has lots and lots of benefits, obvs, but it also leads to option paralysis. You get that feeling of "nope...maybe this....nah...ok, maybe I suck...alright, good enough" over and over again.
Need more discipline before you press the shutter. If you havento take multiple photos over and over then its not a good photo. That Makes a difference from a snap shot to a Photographer
If you ever come to Jersey, I know of a great place that recently relocated but it’s amazing BBQ and there are some photogenic spots even though its the suburbs.
If you are really considering a digital camera, look into a newer company called Pixii. They make digital rangefinder cameras by hand that try to resemble the analog experience as much as possible. Or if you want to go old school, there is the Epson R-D1, which takes Leica M Mount and has a manually wound shutter with a rapid wind lever for a digital camera!
Others have mentioned it, but of the digital cameras the Fuji ones probably fire neurons in the most similar way to film cameras. That said though digital and film are not the same and some of it might just be trying to force yourself into the mindset while using your Sony. Maybe do a video where you try and use your Sony but you only get 36 shots and aren't allowed to delete them or something
If you're ever back in Cleveland, there's an old abandoned observatory in East Cleveland that used to be owned by one of the local universities. Makes for a good photoshoot

Aw that’s cool! Thanks for the love! I’m glad you saw a bit of cleavland from my view :)
If you like more control but pretty much the same. Try the Fuji GS645s. I love mine! Fully mechanical.
Oh damn…. Shit ok. eBay here I come
Sheesh, great travel pics as always!
(but really I don't think you could get much smaller than one of those in the realm of medium format, so very portable)
I need to put out youtube videos so random folk in camera stores will recognize me....
Ummm 4 sho yo
Personally going to stick to the plan of getting a TLR and eventually getting my Kershaw fixed, but that's a really cool medium format!
Love a good tlr
For me it's mostly mirrorless camera's that are uninspiring to me. Bit the bullet to buy a Canon 5D II with a microprism finder and I'm loving it!
Oh nice. That’s fun!!!
@@BadFlashes It's my partner camera for my Canon 1N RS
I didn't know there is such medium format point and shoot. This looks dope. Reminds me of the Contax G. Wish it could shoot 6x7 or even 6x6.
Maybe the next one they make hahaha
That dirty lens filter is making the pics glow. You should have cleaned it or taken it off the lens.
I’m into it! 🤙🏼
@@BadFlashes ha ha when all you know is thunderbird wine there’s no need try cognac xo!
Yeah, not gonna lie I rely heavily on Program mode with my Canon EOS 600…
No shame in P Mode
@@BadFlashes of course!
I had the wide version of this camera. Best travel MF camera with it’s useful fill flash.
Oh shit I can see that
Yes my favorite film camera that I own! I do hate that the focus seems to be only in the middle of the photo though which is annoying when taking pictures of people and their heads are at the top of the photo otherwise love it!
Ah I get that. But I’m with you all the way
another day another coordinated film video upload with that... other guy
Life finds a way
Xpro3 is a fairly close experience to film when it comes to user experience. So long as you only use OVF. Obviously not the same, but it's great and addictivr
I’m very fascinated by the camera I have to say
@@BadFlashes go rent one dude! The old xf35 f.1.4 couples really nicely with it too.
I shoot a lot of film, shooting a Fujifilm (especially a GFX with adapted old) glass is the closest you can get. Sony cameras are soooo capable but soooo uninspiring as well.
That’s exactly what it is. Great for video
But…. Pics. Not for me
No effing way!!! This is awesome dude, that was actually my own personal GA645i, Phil is a great friend of mine and we traded cameras a few months ago, hope you enjoyed it!
@av.cle
I have many photos in my account which I took with this cam, the meter was one of the best I’ve had on a camera.
Oh shit that was your! That’s so awesome. I did love using it!
And that kinda scares me … not picking up a film camera 😳
Who would I even beeee
that's one pricey little P&S you got there bucko
Welll bougie level 11/10
If you can find a CLEAN copy of a leica M9 with a sensor replaced in 2016 or later, then it will be a similar experience to film. It wont be the same, but it might scratch the itch. The blues on that CCD sensor are incredible. Someone online said, "If Fuji ever made digital slide film, it would look like this" and that's about the truest comparison. Complete with the dynamic range blow out over negatives.
I’ve been wanting one of those no screen Leicas. The m10-d lol
@@BadFlashes Got $8,000 and patience? lol...
Wellll no and yes.
Nice one Philip! You saved the day :)
Saved the day!!! LIKE A BOSS
You ever come up to CT and I got you on a great BBQ place
Ok deal!!!!
nice shots, especially black&whites 🔥
Oh thanks I need to hear that today
My problem I have with it sometimes is that I shoot a pic and it comes back underexposed? Maybe I should shoot it at a lower number than box speed. I’ve heard that’s a good idea anyway some of your pics look overexposed and I love that look
I do a bit of over exposing for sure
@@BadFlashes do you purposely shoot at a higher number ? Like for 120 speed film you shoot at like 100 or 50 ? Or does yours just do it for you ?
You’re using a camera that has a light meter you would want to change your ISO to a lower number so for ISO 400 film some Times I set my meter to 320
Man, I love those shades. Tortoise shell all day long
🤩🤩🤩 you always know what to say
Were you working on the film Shelby Oaks?
Sorry I was not :/
@@BadFlashes Would have been dope to see two of my favorite RUclipsrs working together.
Who else worked on that one??? And ahhhh thanks 😊 #blushing
I have the Leica M10-d an you get the same feeling of wondering if you nailed your shot as you have on film. The look is still different in the end but it’s close.
Oh shit. I kinda want to try the shit out of that camera. Just so hard to come by….
@@BadFlashes if you’re ever in a camera store in Paris because you forgot to bring one… 😜
🤩🤩🤩
When you shoot digital, you'll stand there and retake the shot multiple times, trying to get it perfect...and that's a frustrating process. With film, you take the picture and move on. Digital has lots and lots of benefits, obvs, but it also leads to option paralysis. You get that feeling of "nope...maybe this....nah...ok, maybe I suck...alright, good enough" over and over again.
Oh yeah I get that. For sure!!!!!
Need more discipline before you press the shutter. If you havento take multiple photos over and over then its not a good photo. That Makes a difference from a snap shot to a Photographer
If I ever bump into you, we gotta have bbq and I’ll be rocking with a Nikon L35AF.
Dope! I love me some Q
If you ever come to Jersey, I know of a great place that recently relocated but it’s amazing BBQ and there are some photogenic spots even though its the suburbs.
Funny you say that… I’m in jersey
@@BadFlashes Oh really, what part of Jersey? Small state but with different regions.
Newark / Morristown area
If you are really considering a digital camera, look into a newer company called Pixii. They make digital rangefinder cameras by hand that try to resemble the analog experience as much as possible. Or if you want to go old school, there is the Epson R-D1, which takes Leica M Mount and has a manually wound shutter with a rapid wind lever for a digital camera!
I would love that epson. And I’ve totally heard about the Pixiii :)
I’ve never recognised you 🤷♂️
Maybe someday!
That’s the next step I think.
If you're ever back in Cleveland, there's an old abandoned observatory in East Cleveland that used to be owned by one of the local universities. Makes for a good photoshoot
Oh nice!!!! Fuck yeah I’ll have to check it. :)
