These aren't bad, but I have found that Canon cameras of this vintage tend to get sticky shutters (which is cleanable). But on the 650, 630, 620 that dial is super fragile. At the school I teach at, I have been trying to switch to Nikon 6006s, 8008s, N90s because they are a bit more robust. I had an Eos 1 and 1n back in the day, they were great. Also, that 40mm which has been mentioned is great. It is so small, quiet, and sharp.
The EOS line has the fastest autofocus of any of the big brands. My EOS-1n is my favorite camera, more than my Leicas, more than my Nikons, more than my Fujis. It is such a joy to use.
I do think a bit of the perks of shooting film cameras is the disarming charm of antiquated technology. Like it's cool that the security guard kind of gave you the nod, but I've had plenty of situations where I know I'd have gotten hassled had I not been shooting something quirky like a TLR, so like the plastic fantastic 90s cams are amazing...but they just lack in that "good vibes" department of an old film camera.
I bought an eos650 a couple years back and it was the best investment I made. All my EF glass still remains relevant and having AF is a total bonus. I was even able to do a whole wildlife photography project with only analog methods. The meter is a bit iffy as you have pointed out, but once you get used to it, its definitely alright. One thing to note is that these older EOS models may have a battery drain problem, especially the 630. Mine didnt have one at first, but it started to have issues after a year. From what I read online, its due to the electronics for the light in the LCD. But taking out your battery when it is not in use is an easy fix!
I have a Canon EOS 650, 630 and 3000N. I gave the 630 to my daughter. All perform really well - super reliable. Huge range of available EF lenses. The 650 cost me $40 AUD and the 3000N was $15 AUD at a charity shop.
Decided to for my first "Modern" Analog camera to get a Canon Elan, mainly because it was 20$ and took EF lenses I already had, controls are much more intuitive than the 650, similar to the EOS 1N and I've had quite a bit of fun shooting with it. Hilarious and awesome to me to put a lens from 2018 on a body from 1991 and it to just work just as it would on my new mirrorless bodies
I really dig these old EOS cameras. They have all necessary functions, yet are dirt cheap, and they can also use modern EF lenses, many of which can be had dirt cheap now. For example i got EOS 300 for like 40 € and 24-70 2.8 mk1 for 250€. What other brands allows you to get that sort of setup under 300€? And if you want proper pro level camera, well EOS3 and EOS1 are not very expensive.
This is what I love about film gear. The camera has next to nothing with the image quality. A super cheap body will take the same lenses and film as the pro models. In the Canon ecosystem, you can slap some "cheap" L lenses on any old EOS film body. Load it up with whatever film you want and you are set. I built up a nice 35mm film kit. I found a near mint 1N for about $100, with battery grip. Then I added a 50 1.2, a 35 2.0, and the 135 2.0. It gives me amazing results. The cool thing with the 50 and 35 are that they came out well into the digital era and are incredibly sharp. They were designed for digital sensors that require way more resolving power than film requires.
ISO 100 film in good light is the equivalent of about 30 megapixels. ADOX cmx II is a microfilm base that has absurd resolution potential, so the high megapixels of digital cameras are often overestimated. Why does a 35mm film image look just as detailed as an image from a 24MP digital camera? Because it is. But I agree completely that some modern glass is absurdly sharp and well designed.
Canon has always been my favorite brand of cameras, not necessarily because they’re superior, but mainly I’ve stuck with the brand the most out of sentimental value
I've got a pair of EOS 600, for £15 each, one for colour and one for shooting black and white film. They are nice film cameras, and I'd love to shoot more film, but it so expensive… There is an issue with one of them where if you leave it with the battery in, it will drain it quickly. This appears to be a common problem with these EOS 600 cameras as they age. Make sure you take the battery out when not in use. Oh and I managed to get rechargeables online in this old format battery, so it's no longer so much of a problem.
Bought 2 Canon 500N in a job lot for £15. It's now my most used camera and it cost less than a roll of film. Perfect size with great features, and at that price it's practically a disposable, I never have to worry about it being stolen or broken
620 owner here, bought at a pawn shop in '95 for a song because they couldn't get fit any of their other Canon (FD) lenses on the camera. Everything old is new again and I will probably dust it off and put a new battery in and start shooting on it, coming full circle with my first AF camera. I think the primary differences are that the 620 has a higher max shuter of 1/2000 and a higher flash sync of up to 1/250. Also lacks the DOF mode.
This camera had another version with very cool feature - eye tracking. It have multiple points of exposure calculation and focusing and you may select the right point just looking at it. It's amazing, that feature was implemented in middle 80s. Fantastic camera, and it so convenient so I would like just to add digital back with no display at all, just 5 mp sensor and multimedia card slot, and I would be happy.
If you have any EF lenses, these EOS film cameras are a no-brainer. Got myself a 30V with eye-control AF last year and it's been great. I mean, who could say no to 1/4s handheld because you have IS?
I love my EOS 650. Got it off eBay for like 70 bucks with a genuine speedlite THAT WORKS from the 80's, a genuine EOS case, and an EOS bag. All original Canon stuff, for like 70 bucks. I was so surprised to see everything working properly.
I was gifted a EOS 630 kit by a friends dad. Put my modern ef lens on it and it takes great photos. It's got power issues these days but as long as I don't hit a couple of buttons it won't drain the batt instantly. Recommended.
With an adapter, you can Ef lenses or RF mount being able to use lenses on mirrorles, DSLR, and film is an insane savings on money while being versatile.
Dope AF is right -- finally respect being put on those early EOS models! I have an EOS 620 and shot a roll of Ilford XP2 this weekend at The Darkroom & Beers & Cameras photowalk this weekend in San Diego! Excited to develop & scan the roll; might have even managed to get a sneaky candid of you somewhere in there hahaha
I take every opportunity I get to shout from the rooftops about eos film cameras! Sure the 650 can be a little kooky but you can get plenty of more developed models super cheap and you have to remember the 650 is the first of its line! Also got to shout out the magical ef 40mm f/2.8, its my go to now where the 50 1.8 stm was beforw
My Canon 650 just arrived in the mail and is in excellent condition. Getting ready to head to the East Coast and adding the 650 to my arsenal of cameras.
This is one of my favorites videos that you’ve done! I got an EOS A2 for like $40 on eBay and it’s awesome. The EOS cameras are ugly but they work well.
I also have the e o s system, but still love my AE-1 program and. It's fd prime lenses. Kodak pro image is a great film stock for cheap money. In high contrast situations i usually over expose by one stop.
I started college in 87 and my buddy had one of those, it seemed pretty space age back then! I'm a lifetime Nikon man, but strangely I shot a magazine portrait of the kid who played Neville that you mentioned years ago, using a borrowed canon 5D for some reason I don't remember. Amazing that one of yours is still working after nearly 40 years
This is great Caleb, thank you. Not everything needs to be top tier. Watching these I'm getting closer and closer to dipping my toes back into film. Also, I love dead malls!
I acquired an ELAN II around April and ultimately it's what led me to selling my AE-1 and Fuji X-T2. I already had a 5D MKIII and when I got this camera I decided I would invest in EF glass and make the move to mirrorless with the RP. Now I can use the same EF glass through 3 generations of cameras and produce great results with each. My 24-105 gets all the use and I'm looking to get the 50 1.2 soon
You inspired me to look for one of these, and I bought one for $12, including delivery. Pleasantly surprised that it even seems to work with my Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art lens. Haven’t tried it with film yet but very promising!
Fascinated by the results from this combination (650 + Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art). Learned alot: - This feels SO much like using my digital Canon that after a while I forgot that I was shooting film - Portra 160 has crazy resolution - When the quality of the negatives is this high, I have to be really cautious when I digitize them: every fleck of dust shows and the color fringing of my lens becomes much more obvious (trying to resist buying a proper macro lens instead of extension tubes) So really cool experience, thanks for getting me to try this! This is perfect for portraits, I'd say. (And if I get tired of the camera I'll sell it for $1000 once the Caleb effect kicks in and it becomes the most popular camera ever)
The Canon EOS series are my Favorite auto slrs. I used to help promote a monthly camera show by me. I did the online advertising . It was a camera flea market so to speak. And one of the vendors had a $5 table. Anything on that table was $5. And then one show he had a table that everything on that table was $2.50. So I have EOS 650 and either the 620 or 630 plus Nikon N 90 and Nikon N90s bodies. I put lenses and batteries on them and they work. The EOS A2 is still my favorite. I am on my 4th one. Always carry batteries on you when going to a camera show or thrift stores to test them to make sure it works before you buy it. The photos came out exposed ok. It reminded me kind of like mall in Dawn of the Dead.
Canon eos are fantastic and whether it was to conserve manufacturing resources or just great foresight, the systems interchangeability is top notch. Almost 10 years ago, i bought a canon 1000f second hand for less then 20 euros. It was missing the eyepiece, but it uses the same eyepiece as my canon 6d! The lens hood for my 28-105mm and 28mm 1.8? The same! The lens hood for my 85mm 1.8 and 135mm softfocus lens? Also the same!
When I used to go to malls the security guards would always come hassle me for shooting inside the mall. They didn't bother you? Maybe because nobody goes to malls anymore?
I remember drooling over the EOS 620/650 brochure as they oozed late-80's tech & styling at the camera store but these (as well as the roughly comparable Pentax SF1, etc.) seemed very expensive at the time and ended up with a much lower-tech Pentax P3n. I still have and love it.
Bought my EOS 630 with 2 lenses back in early 90s at B&H on a trip to NYC...a few more Canons, digital n film and a few sweet EF lensss later...got me back into film n my love/hate GAS fun!! Great video...my 630 still going strong!
Nice video. I'm still using my EOS 630 that I bought new in '89. I keep thinking I should look at getting a 1n or the EOS 3, but I keep using the 630 and enjoying the results. I'll spend the money I save on film and processing! Thanks for doing this video, it reminds me that these are good cameras. I mostly use the canon 50mm 1.4 and the 24-105 f4, they do the trick.
Hot take: I think that for years folks would say a good starter camera is the AE-1, Electro, etc. because they made so many of them, so there was a surplus available for cheap. That repeated enough times, created the opposite issue, and now they're over priced. The late stage film cameras didn't get the same hype, and now they're like $20. I have this exact camera in my bids on a Goodwill site, so if it suddenly prices out for me following this video release, I know who to blame. (Me, for making this comment).
It is all about the lenses. There are adapters for the EF mount and many systems can be attached. There is also auto focus confirmation with those adapters included. So - the body may be an ugly plastic box, but if Helios lenses attached using the adapter - oh man, you can still shoot in the AV mode and rock it 🔥
Have my mums old EOS 650 and love it super easy camera and the photos I've taken with it are some of my favourites. Pretty much all the cameras I have were given/ lent to me by family. Next cameras to try are the Canon A-1 my uncle lent me and my aunts Konica Autoreflex TC.
With the recently released EF lenses, you can get the highest possible quality out of old film cameras. The new stabilized lenses do a great job on old bodies.
Got my EOS 650 for around 80 bucks as an addition to my Canon AE-1 fully manual camera because I thought a more modern camera with at least autofocus, combine that with the EF mount lenses would make a great addition to my collection. But I found out that I personally much more prefer the simpilicity of my AE-1 with all its haptics over the EOS 650 hence i almost never use it.
I’ve got a 650 and a 620. They are great. Only downside is the battery cost. It’s the only reason why I don’t shoot them anymore. I picked up an F4 that runs on AA batteries and haven’t looked back
@@BadFlashes right. The batteries just don’t last at 20 dollars a pop in my experience anyways. That said it is a light weight setup. My Nikon f4 is like lugging around a brick.
Used Photo Pro also has a brick and mortar storefront! It’s in Indianapolis, and is the staff is fantastic. They have bins of lenses for like $10 and bodies I think for $20 - and you can pick out a body+lens kit for $25! Super helpful for the budget conscious film photographer or someone who wants to give it a try without spending more than that. I’m super happy to see them mentioned, Indy is a great city and I wish people didn’t look over our state and its capitol so much. Southern Indiana is gorgeous and has a lot of interesting history.
Funny enough I’m visiting the store the same time this video is posted. Funny how things turn out like that sometimes. It’s a fantastic store with awesome people.
that stupid rewind button on the back cover on the EOS 1 (elan 7) has burned 2 rolls of cine800t and several kodak golds, ive taped over it - kinda helped canon EF lenses are slept on but the budget zooms (50-250 and 75-300) chromatic aberrate like crazy the canon ultrasonic 28-105 is my main and is very versatile - good for BW infrared (f8, didnt try f11, no hotspots) im looking for proper f2.8, f2, or f1.8 EF lenses- should i go canon red-rings or are tamron/sigma options as good? (my first camera was a rebel t6 - it is my only digital camera)
HA! No way. The Puente Hills Mall. I remember going there about 2 years ago. Other malls had already re-opened and were booming again, but this place was unbelievably dead.
Thank you! I don’t shoot film, yet! I’ve been watching your channel for a while, and before I even thought about trying film your videos have always inspired me to shoot more. I also like a lot of the same subjects you shoot!
I have a Rebel 2000 that I got new in the year 2000. Somehow that thing keeps on trucking despite being treated like crap for most of its existence. The pressure plate and areas where the film runs through are visibly worn. It outlasted my Nikon F3 (bought in 03, made late 90s mint condition in the box, but crapped out around 2009).
Vast majority of autofocus film cameras are unbelievably cheap for their capabilities, like you can get a Minolta Alpha 7/9 or a Nikon F5 for the price of a Canon AE-1, as well as plenty of other brands with high quality even late AF pro cameras for the price of more popular manual SLRs. I got a Nikon F-601 for 5 bucks that was completely new in box, and other consumer/entry level AF SLRs are very cheap.
Eos rebel g and the 50mm lens is one of my favorite combos. Cheap and it just works. I used it as part of my loadout for some concerts I shot earlier this year and got some of my favorite photos out of it.
@@BadFlashes absolutely. Especially considering the price of batteries for those cams. I basically bought the batteries and got the cams for free. Compared to my loved FTB ql they feel like toys, but they don't randomly explode every few films... That's kinda nice.
Nice - huge fan of the Canon Eos 300N, could never figure out why people spent soo much money on old clunky film cameras. Course I’d been there and done that, first camera being an Olympus trip back in the 80’s. I’ve always loved plastic fantastic cameras, but then I came of age when they were the future - for some of us, using a late 90’s plastic Canon is actually nostalgic… plus they take stellar images
Dang, maybe I should have waited for this to come out and stuck with the Canon family instead of buying a K1000 at the darkroomlab/beers&cameras meetup after winning that film... Hmm, guess I'll just have to watch the other film videos you have up :D
Even cheaper would be a Canon EOS 500N (Rebel G in the US). You can still pick these up for 30 quid with a lens. Combine this with Fomapan 100 (5 €/roll) and self develop in Rodinal, you are looking probably at 0.1 €/frame.* *granted, you need to invest into a light tight changing bag (15 €) and a development tank (30 € new) and find a way to scan the negatives (I am using a 100€ Nikon D3300 with a macro lens). But this process is also a lot of fun!
Hey Caleb, know that there's a ticking time-bomb in these 'cheapy' Canon EOS units. - I just copied what Google quickly popped up : "A common failure mode for early EOS cameras caused by a foam shutter bumper (some say a foam light seal) that has deteriorated over time and turned into a STICKY goo. That goo gets on some of the shutter blades and causes some funky shutter behavior in the beginning and eventually, a total malfunction" - This happened to me toward the end of a Family gathering - - - So don't spend much on these, they're simply not economical to repair. - BTW, I'm a camera technician...
Do you have an electric Hasselblad now? 😂 But seriously people still sleep on the Minoltas, Nikons and Canons from the nineties to early 2000's. Not so the EOS 1V or Nikon F5/F6. But there are so many Dynax,'s, F65's, or stuff like the Canon 650. I always recommend these now to friends wanting to try film out for cheap. Well besides letting them borrow on of mine for a bit.
@@BadFlashes I would too, but I just got a Bronica EC-TL with a sweet Zenzanon 80mm 2.4 lens 😇 So at least 0.4 F-stop better than the best Hasselblad offering in 80mm.

The best sleeper camera I know of is the Nikon N90s (get the vertical grip too). They are so cheap to get and have all the bells and whistles
They are cheap
I have a Canon EOS 650, 630 and 3000N. I gave the 630 to my daughter. All perform really well - super reliable. Huge range of available EF lenses. The 650 cost me $40 AUD and the 3000N was $15 AUD at a charity shop.
Oh, that’s amazing and also those prices are great
Decided to for my first "Modern" Analog camera to get a Canon Elan, mainly because it was 20$ and took EF lenses I already had, controls are much more intuitive than the 650, similar to the EOS 1N and I've had quite a bit of fun shooting with it. Hilarious and awesome to me to put a lens from 2018 on a body from 1991 and it to just work just as it would on my new mirrorless bodies
Right! Isn’t that like the best part of the entire thing?
The a2e is literally my professional film go to. Guaranteed to shoot really good photos, and if they want a vintage look, switch to the ae1 📷 😊
🙏🏼👍🏼
I really dig these old EOS cameras. They have all necessary functions, yet are dirt cheap, and they can also use modern EF lenses, many of which can be had dirt cheap now. For example i got EOS 300 for like 40 € and 24-70 2.8 mk1 for 250€. What other brands allows you to get that sort of setup under 300€? And if you want proper pro level camera, well EOS3 and EOS1 are not very expensive.
🤘🏼
Oh my god… Right. So on point
I woudlnt call the 50 sharp
I mean it looked sharp to me. That eye is crisp
@@BadFlashes fair
Canon has always been my favorite brand of cameras, not necessarily because they’re superior, but mainly I’ve stuck with the brand the most out of sentimental value
It totally happens
I've got a pair of EOS 600, for £15 each, one for colour and one for shooting black and white film. They are nice film cameras, and I'd love to shoot more film, but it so expensive… There is an issue with one of them where if you leave it with the battery in, it will drain it quickly. This appears to be a common problem with these EOS 600 cameras as they age. Make sure you take the battery out when not in use. Oh and I managed to get rechargeables online in this old format battery, so it's no longer so much of a problem.
Oh nice. Duel welding 🥳
I approve
Bought 2 Canon 500N in a job lot for £15. It's now my most used camera and it cost less than a roll of film. Perfect size with great features, and at that price it's practically a disposable, I never have to worry about it being stolen or broken
🫶🏼🙌🏼👍🏼
620 owner here, bought at a pawn shop in '95 for a song because they couldn't get fit any of their other Canon (FD) lenses on the camera. Everything old is new again and I will probably dust it off and put a new battery in and start shooting on it, coming full circle with my first AF camera. I think the primary differences are that the 620 has a higher max shuter of 1/2000 and a higher flash sync of up to 1/250. Also lacks the DOF mode.
Do it. 🚀
🥰
If you have any EF lenses, these EOS film cameras are a no-brainer. Got myself a 30V with eye-control AF last year and it's been great. I mean, who could say no to 1/4s handheld because you have IS?
Right
I picked up a mint Nikon F100 with a 35 f/2 lens on eBay for $100. There are definitely deals to be had!
Right!!!
I love my EOS 650. Got it off eBay for like 70 bucks with a genuine speedlite THAT WORKS from the 80's, a genuine EOS case, and an EOS bag. All original Canon stuff, for like 70 bucks. I was so surprised to see everything working properly.
Wow all the OG stuff. That’s great
I was gifted a EOS 630 kit by a friends dad. Put my modern ef lens on it and it takes great photos. It's got power issues these days but as long as I don't hit a couple of buttons it won't drain the batt instantly. Recommended.
Gifts are fun
With an adapter, you can Ef lenses or RF mount being able to use lenses on mirrorles, DSLR, and film is an insane savings on money while being versatile.
So so so much savings
I have an EOS 55 and a 1V. Don’t get to use them much but they’re fantastic cameras.
They really are. And I feel ya
😛😛😛😛😛😛❤️
I take every opportunity I get to shout from the rooftops about eos film cameras! Sure the 650 can be a little kooky but you can get plenty of more developed models super cheap and you have to remember the 650 is the first of its line! Also got to shout out the magical ef 40mm f/2.8, its my go to now where the 50 1.8 stm was beforw
Shout it yo!!!!!
My Canon 650 just arrived in the mail and is in excellent condition. Getting ready to head to the East Coast and adding the 650 to my arsenal of cameras.
Nice! Hope you have fun 🤩
This is one of my favorites videos that you’ve done! I got an EOS A2 for like $40 on eBay and it’s awesome. The EOS cameras are ugly but they work well.
Oh yay. So glad 😌
I also have the e o s system, but still love my AE-1 program and. It's fd prime lenses. Kodak pro image is a great film stock for cheap money. In high contrast situations i usually over expose by one stop.
Totally 👍🏼
I started college in 87 and my buddy had one of those, it seemed pretty space age back then! I'm a lifetime Nikon man, but strangely I shot a magazine portrait of the kid who played Neville that you mentioned years ago, using a borrowed canon 5D for some reason I don't remember. Amazing that one of yours is still working after nearly 40 years
It’s so crazy right now
Elan ii + 40mm pancake has been my most-used setup since I got into film.
Nice!!! That’s solid
These were peak camera tech at the time. I have a 7s and I've literally never had it in anything but P mode and the auto-exposure hasn't failed once.
Nice! Love to hear that
I have the Nikon f80- for many of the same reasons, Def recommend it for Nikon users.
Oh nice! Good call!
This is great Caleb, thank you. Not everything needs to be top tier. Watching these I'm getting closer and closer to dipping my toes back into film. Also, I love dead malls!
Do it!!!!!!!!!! If I dip, you dip, we dip
I got the 620 a few years back, great camera
🚀🎞️
Used Photo Pro (aka Roberts) is my local shop and most of my gear is from them. They’re the best!
The best. So agreeeee
Canon EOS 300 is one of my favourite cameras. Paired with the 40mm EF lens, it is the perfect travel camera.
I can totally see that
I acquired an ELAN II around April and ultimately it's what led me to selling my AE-1 and Fuji X-T2.
🥳
EOS line of film cameras are superb. I have my father's old EOS 100 and it performs great to this day. Lens selection and variety is really good also.
🎞️🤘🏼😊
You inspired me to look for one of these, and I bought one for $12, including delivery. Pleasantly surprised that it even seems to work with my Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art lens. Haven’t tried it with film yet but very promising!
Fascinated by the results from this combination (650 + Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art). Learned alot:
- This feels SO much like using my digital Canon that after a while I forgot that I was shooting film
- Portra 160 has crazy resolution
- When the quality of the negatives is this high, I have to be really cautious when I digitize them: every fleck of dust shows and the color fringing of my lens becomes much more obvious (trying to resist buying a proper macro lens instead of extension tubes)
So really cool experience, thanks for getting me to try this! This is perfect for portraits, I'd say.
(And if I get tired of the camera I'll sell it for $1000 once the Caleb effect kicks in and it becomes the most popular camera ever)
I bought a Rebel 2000 and EF 50mm II for $50. It's an awesome setup that weighs almost nothing but is an absolute heavyweight.
Nice!!!
Yassss to so much of this
Canon eos are fantastic and whether it was to conserve manufacturing resources or just great foresight, the systems interchangeability is top notch.
Same same same. Love it
When I used to go to malls the security guards would always come hassle me for shooting inside the mall. They didn't bother you? Maybe because nobody goes to malls anymore?
Hahaha
I remember drooling over the EOS 620/650 brochure as they oozed late-80's tech & styling at the camera store but these (as well as the roughly comparable Pentax SF1, etc.) seemed very expensive at the time and ended up with a much lower-tech Pentax P3n. I still have and love it.
You should get one, they are cheap enough now! Hahahaha catch em alllllllllll 😮💨😝
Bought my EOS 630 with 2 lenses back in early 90s at B&H on a trip to NYC...a few more Canons, digital n film and a few sweet EF lensss later...got me back into film n my love/hate GAS fun!! Great video...my 630 still going strong!
Oh I love that :)
Oh totally, I mean that that’s the whole point of the video. I’m glad you enjoyed it. :)
@@BadFlashes keep up the good work. I’m a retired guy working now on getting better at shooting film. Really enjoying your content.
Love my canon EOS Rebel Gii!!
Hells yeah … that’s what’s sup
Hot take: I think that for years folks would say a good starter camera is the AE-1, Electro, etc. because they made so many of them, so there was a surplus available for cheap. That repeated enough times, created the opposite issue, and now they're over priced. The late stage film cameras didn't get the same hype, and now they're like $20.
I have this exact camera in my bids on a Goodwill site, so if it suddenly prices out for me following this video release, I know who to blame. (Me, for making this comment).
Hahahaha
I mean the great thing is if the cameras turn on they work they work
It is all about the lenses. There are adapters for the EF mount and many systems can be attached. There is also auto focus confirmation with those adapters included. So - the body may be an ugly plastic box, but if Helios lenses attached using the adapter - oh man, you can still shoot in the AV mode and rock it 🔥
🙌🏼
Don't sleep on these, or similar ones like Nikon N80. Lots of great cameras going cheap out there.
So so cheap
I'm on my second Rebel S and love it. I'd rather spend $1000 on a lens than a Leica held together by hope, faith, and electrical tape.
That’s what’s up yoooooo
Got a Rebel 2000 for literally $15 recently. While the build quality sucks its a fantastic camera for what it is.
15$ is awesome
Have my mums old EOS 650 and love it super easy camera and the photos I've taken with it are some of my favourites. Pretty much all the cameras I have were given/ lent to me by family. Next cameras to try are the Canon A-1 my uncle lent me and my aunts Konica Autoreflex TC.
That’s one of a kind!!! So awesome
With the recently released EF lenses, you can get the highest possible quality out of old film cameras. The new stabilized lenses do a great job on old bodies.
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🫶🏼
IS lenses were a thing even in the film era. 70-200 F2.8L IS was the goat of their lens ecosystem in the late 90s and early 00's
@@gobgobcachoo I own the 70-200 F4 version. It makes fun with film as well.
Love and own the EOS 5 * A2e such a beast and very slept on.
Facts
Double facts
Got my EOS 650 for around 80 bucks as an addition to my Canon AE-1 fully manual camera because I thought a more modern camera with at least autofocus, combine that with the EF mount lenses would make a great addition to my collection. But I found out that I personally much more prefer the simpilicity of my AE-1 with all its haptics over the EOS 650 hence i almost never use it.
Feels. I get it.
Now this is the type of camera I like to hear about! ❤❤❤❤
😝😝😝😝😝
Another fun video with lots of good information. Thank you !
Oh awesome I’m so glad
I’ve got a 650 and a 620. They are great. Only downside is the battery cost. It’s the only reason why I don’t shoot them anymore. I picked up an F4 that runs on AA batteries and haven’t looked back
I had my 620 draining battery really badly, like 2-3 rolls on 1 battery. After cutting the wire for LCD backlight all went great
Yeah, but the batteries are pretty light and the cameras overall are super super light. But I feel ya.
It’s a fantastic store with awesome people.
that stupid rewind button on the back cover on the EOS 1 (elan 7) has burned 2 rolls of cine800t and several kodak golds, ive taped over it - kinda helped
canon EF lenses are slept on but the budget zooms (50-250 and 75-300) chromatic aberrate like crazy
the canon ultrasonic 28-105 is my main and is very versatile - good for BW infrared (f8, didnt try f11, no hotspots)
im looking for proper f2.8, f2, or f1.8 EF lenses- should i go canon red-rings or are tamron/sigma options as good?
(my first camera was a rebel t6 - it is my only digital camera)

HA! No way. The Puente Hills Mall. I remember going there about 2 years ago. Other malls had already re-opened and were booming again, but this place was unbelievably dead.
Oh I know.
Really enjoy the mood, and my gosh the colors, that you've coaxed out of the mall location.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Very informative video, bought one today!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you! I don’t shoot film, yet! I’ve been watching your channel for a while, and before I even thought about trying film your videos have always inspired me to shoot more. I also like a lot of the same subjects you shoot!
2 years ago I spent ~$100 on a CIB EOS 50e (I believe the American name is Elan II) and it's awesome with all my EF glass. Great buy
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Nice video. I'm actually impressed that you found a mall that is open.
Meeee too!
Can’t stop won’t stop
Those photos from the mall are amazing !!
Aw thanks 😊
Vast majority of autofocus film cameras are unbelievably cheap for their capabilities, like you can get a Minolta Alpha 7/9 or a Nikon F5 for the price of a Canon AE-1, as well as plenty of other brands with high quality even late AF pro cameras for the price of more popular manual SLRs. I got a Nikon F-601 for 5 bucks that was completely new in box, and other consumer/entry level AF SLRs are very cheap.
Buy em alllll hahahaha
Literally my EOS 5 QD (90$ in almost mint condition) arrived when this video uploaded, it makes me even more excited to use it
That’s great!!!!!!!!
I too have been getting into Pro Image 100 again. I too avoid gluten.
Hahah I get that
Eos rebel g and the 50mm lens is one of my favorite combos. Cheap and it just works. I used it as part of my loadout for some concerts I shot earlier this year and got some of my favorite photos out of it.

The erognomics on the Canon cameras has always been fire. Nikon chunky bois will never feel as good in the hands.
Canons are tight
The same is true with Nikon autofocus consumer F mount film cameras.
So much value
@@BadFlashes I have both mounts plus an F5.
Get an EF 40mm f/2.8 STM, it's an amazing lens.
That’s what I’ve heard.

the mall depressed me
but you lifted me up
but i'm still sad
No no. Film is alive be happy for that
I have one of those that I got for free. Still haven’t got myself a lens yet… I really should get round to that.
You should totally pick yourself up the lens
Great minds think alike. I was shooting in this mall four weeks ago. Some awesome photo opportunities.
Nice!!!!
The 50 1.8 STM that you have here is so much better (and recent) than the previous 1.8 that was slow to focus, noisy, like your 28.
Yeah the new one is dope
Had the loud n crunchy 35-70 zoom, and think it was the 75-210...both loud but rather sharp for the time produced...still have n use the 35-70
Had the loud n crunchy 35-70 zoom, and think it was the 75-210...both loud but rather sharp for the time produced...still have n use the 35-70
I'm late to watching this video. Cuz it came out the same day as the Roberts / Usedphotopro event in Indy. Feels kinda surreal. 😮
It’s funny how that happed haha
I just got a 300v and a 500 for combined ~15$. Amazing little things that work very well with my EF lenses I am using anyway.
That is such a fantastic price!
Well said!
Dang, maybe I should have waited for this to come out and stuck with the Canon family instead of buying a K1000 at the darkroomlab/beers&cameras meetup after winning that film... Hmm, guess I'll just have to watch the other film videos you have up :D
WAMP wamp lol
You still got a good one don’t worry there’s always time to get more 🤪
Even cheaper would be a Canon EOS 500N (Rebel G in the US). You can still pick these up for 30 quid with a lens.
Combine this with Fomapan 100 (5 €/roll) and self develop in Rodinal, you are looking probably at 0.1 €/frame.*
*granted, you need to invest into a light tight changing bag (15 €) and a development tank (30 € new) and find a way to scan the negatives (I am using a 100€ Nikon D3300 with a macro lens). But this process is also a lot of fun!
Good deals can totally be found
I got a EOS 3000N as a gift and later got myself a 50e both are great SLRs
SLRs for the win!
OK, I can see that totally being a pain in the ass for sure. Good thing that they are cheap though right?
Love this series of cams. I've been using an RT (basically the same thing but with a pellicle mirror) for a while. So gooooood :D
So so good
My film EOS' are: the 7s the 55 and the 50e.
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Do you have an electric Hasselblad now? 😂
But seriously people still sleep on the Minoltas, Nikons and Canons from the nineties to early 2000's. Not so the EOS 1V or Nikon F5/F6.
But there are so many Dynax,'s, F65's, or stuff like the Canon 650. I always recommend these now to friends wanting to try film out for cheap.
Well besides letting them borrow on of mine for a bit.
Unfortunately, I do not…. I would so take one and sell out in a heartbeat.
Hahahah
Oh totally they’re such great cameras and definitely do the trick
@@BadFlashes I would too, but I just got a Bronica EC-TL with a sweet Zenzanon 80mm 2.4 lens 😇
So at least 0.4 F-stop better than the best Hasselblad offering in 80mm.
Right? I have two 650's bought them both with nifty fifties for a combined $70. I also recently bought a A2 for for around $30. Great cameras and I am happy people don't like them, means they will continue to be inexpensive.
There 5 old eos that i could use from family members. But ill stick to my as-1p. The feeling is just soo much better
