You don't have to lie, we know you guys slept in the same bed. And we support you.
Shhhhh 🤫
@@BadFlashes Oh c'mon Caleb. This is a worse kept secret than Sheev Palpatine being the titular Phantom Menace.
lol you know me
this is like the 2nd time in life i've heard this same reference... and no ive never seen the PM film.@@jonathanhobson7534
I LOVED the little intro cards you made for each film, they bring those great old packaging designs to high-res glory
Oh, thanks! Yeah, I had a lot of fun making those and re-creating the design
Always love yours and Jason's videos. Something so interesting watching you guys take photos of abandoned builds and crap.
Glad you like them! 😍
Yeah. It's adventure, creativity, and gambling rolled into a single activity, and presented with flair.
Rethink 'crap' Great images to decorate fine eateries and hotels!
Nah a lot of it was crap, that's what good photographers do to "test" the film or lens. Its like we're "Oooooh a piece of trash that is yellow and blue, I can test the color on that" 🤣@@jasongold6751
Your production is getting better and better!
Ahhhh thanks :)
Right! Even just the first 18s was crazy!
🥳🙌🏼😘
I’m with you on “I just don’t think it’s worth it”
The only time I shoot expired is when the shots turn out kinda crap and then I say “oh yeah, that frame was expired”
hahahahah yep!
The color grading on those drone shots HOOOOO LEEEEEEEE. mucho cinematico. great vid
🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Pro Image 100 is one of the most underrated stocks. Not as saturated as Ektar but more so than Porta with the finest grain within Kodak's "consumer" line of films.
I bought some in 35mm now :)
Great video, Caleb! I love me some expired film. But what really got me was 5:04 - 5:14. The Phantom Menace! I was 23 at the time, and it rocked my world! My fave Star Wars film to this day!
Hahaha I’m so glad you liked it 😝
Those shots at @16:47-49 are phenomenal analog psychedelic poetry
Ahhh thanks yo
Recently I shot some expired Fujichrome (2005 ish) and it turned out great! It was actually my first roll with the Mamiya 7 :)
Oh that’s hawt
The production on this video was absolutely beautiful. The whole dunes part of the video was a vibe. Im not sure if you did any color corrections at the start but it looked so damn good. The photos....well most of them were fire. Great video Caleb.
Oh awesome. So so glad. :)
All of my videos go through color correction:)
@@BadFlashes It looked so good today. So cinematic. Keep up the great work
😍😍😍😍
Side note but I love all the graphics/artwork you put into these videos. I searched for a Canon Sure shot 85 zoom video today and came across one of your old videos... you're videos have come so far in being polished, along with the content and expressing your point of view.. Anyway.. just thought I'd share.
Oh thanks so much. 😻😻😻
Damn that Maymia 645 is sharp. Vericolor III is what we shot for weddings and portraits. I can’t remember the 400 iso film we used. Tri-X and 3200 T-max were the others i shot
OMG you know how hard it is to find their color images from back in the day. Maybe no one really tagged them but their color was very hard to research.
Whiskey from plastic cups! Classy!
Of course. That’s how we roll
Some really good shots in there Caleb, my favorites: 16:10 (2 of them), 19:03, 20:56, 22:52, 25:47, 25:50.
Oh hells yeah. Thanks 🙏🏼 😍🥳
Glad you like it :)
I've found that when im using flash with my 645, having a left hand grip with a flash mount and a flash cable helps. It's really bulky, but it feels a little more balanced.
Also the Pentax 360fgz lets you change the format you're using when you input your settings, so it's easy to use on 35mm, 645 or 67. Cheap on ebay too
Yeah that totally makes sense. I really need to use my grip more.
What????
I go to eBay now
@@BadFlashes good luck! I think there's a second version that has a swivel head but mine is just the normal non-swivel version.
Great video Caleb! Been waiting for one like this, expired film is such fun.
Oh awesome. So glad you enjoyed
10:41 I am so happy my car isn’t the only one that looks like this on shoot days
🤪😝
Damn you`ve outdone yourself on this one!! This is so good
I also shot some Vericolor III and had similar results. Bright areas were fine but shadows get a little green.
grossss and greeeeen
You and Jason’s videos always make me want to head west and get the hell outta Dallas! Expired film…it’s either very good as in screwed up in a good way (usually lower speed C41) or worthless;: the 1982 expired “cold stored” Ektachrome 200 that turned out completely clear. And you can’t compensate for aged transparency film by overexposing it. Because the film dies by going completely clear. Just like what happens if you grossly overexpose it. You can’t win. Well. The box did say transparency. And that film was transparent. Completely transparent.
TX has so much to offer!!! Go get em
I bought 20 rolls of E100SW some years agon on ebay, and im glad to say they actually turned out! I did notice a magenta cast not unlike your rolls, but it was easy to edit away. Strangely, mine shot much better at 50 iso. I stil have about 10 rolls. Anyway, thanks for the video!
I bet yours was stored well.
Mine. Yeah. No lol
7:14 really nice style of cutting, nice!
Oh thanks yo!
Really enjoyable. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Jason looked like he was reevaluating all of his life’s choices that morning.
I have some rolls of expired Kodak 120 Film lying around. Many TMX, some Portra 100 T and some Portra BW.
Now I'm excited to actually try these out, even if they dont turn out super well. But should be an experience.
Thank you Caleb, loved your video as always 😚
Have fun! And party hard :)
Good video. I schewt expired and fresh film all the time especially on people photoshoots. I have had more hits than misses with expired film . I love the whiskey spill. Thank you for making me laugh. I needed that.
🫠🥰
Spooky, at 25:50 the broken window on the right of the house looks like a witch on broomstick flew through it!
Hahaha 😆
@@BadFlashes The gear head in me needs to know the camera at 6:44. The shape is so odd, like early Sony digital cameras!
That picnic table at 16:04, with the roof and the low sun glinting off the posts, would have made a good close-in shot. Your 16:12 capture didn't have the glint and conveys a very different feel. Similar for the next image. Really good, though.
The sand at 16:47 and 16:49 looks wild for the colors, I really like them. Reminds me of decorations I had in a fish tank long ago.
I like the crispness of the 400 VC on the dunes.
Another banger of a post - so many great shots and a lot of atmosphere. Only thing missing was BBQ!
Hahaha the BBQ was at the beginning 😂
Just recently shot some medium format Vericolor and Vericolor II in some cameras I bought, I wasn't expecting much but the results turned out wonderful!!
Oh hell yes! That’s amazing. I’m so glad.
E100SW cross-processed is where its at. In my magazine shooting days in the early 00s, SW was my goto for portrait shoots.
Oh that’s awesome!!!
My dude out here making good content like always. We need more of these stocks brought back, please kodak (and more importantly please fujifilm....)
Yeah I would shoot expired film a lot more....if it was cheap...unfortunately it is not. Some ancient films sure are pricey. That said maybe I shoot expired all the time because I keep buying film and it gets expired all the time in the back of my fridge lol
Apparently Fuji is back in the game ?????
The only two Kodak films I know of that haven’t had their emulsion updated are Double-X and Color Plus. The rest received updates over time, most of them around 2007. That’s why Gold is a much nicer and higher end film now than it was in the 90s.
It is true that all film manufactures change the ingredients they use because of supply availability and laws they don’t change the look doing it.
Good to always keep making things better
Dang this one's a sweet edit. Some very nice images, too!
Oh awesome. Thanks so much 🥳
Another day out on the dusty roads. Thank god for whisky, a double bed and lots of love !
Hahahaha the only place to be
I have a shoe box with lots of OUT OF DATE, Fuji/Kodak 120 film, 100 feet Ektachrome 100! If film in original foil, like Fuji and Kodak, I believe they were packed with nitrogen gas, to protect ! I used a few with perfect success! I lowered ASA/ISO, but not sure I needed to. Used a good lab here in Toronto, Queen St! The risk travelling distance, fuel ,food and awful sodas.. Your results great!
That’s awesome. Also packed with nitrogen gases sounds crazy hahaha
i have been inspired to finally start shooting film thanks to your podcast with Jason.
I bought my dream camera last year and wanted to start last year initially, but i injured my back which basically paused my life for a while.. when i wanted to use the camera today, i unfortunately noticed that the shutter speeds are way off.. I paid too much for a camera that i can’t even use, out of enthusiasm =ˋ)..
Now im selling old camera gear to hopefully be able to get it cla‘d.. until then i will shoot with an old point and shoot that i found in our basement(the Nikon L35 AF)
thanks so much for the videos, they kept my motivation alive while being bedbound for almost a year.. ❤
film can totally be that way ... keep going and hope you enjoy :)
why did i laugh so hard at the whiskey? spilling out of the second cup in slow-mo...
Haha bc it’s funny and wacky 🤪
You always have fantastic music on your posts.
Awwww thanks so much
I shot with ProImage 100 on a trip to Japan recently and was pleasantly surprised with the results. Brown tones on it can look really nice.
A 5 pack of it was pretty cheap too. Definitely give it a try!
Oh totally! it really is cheep compared to others
I shoot quite a bit of Pro Image, it's a nice film stock high quality for low price
Really enjoyed this video 😊.
Yayayayaya
Love the expired film content. I have 8 rolls of Kodak MAX for 35mm that im waiting to shoot.
Nice!
25:45 Jason with TLR and the viewfinder from... hassy!
Can you see the one at 6:44? Interesting shape, looks like an early Sony digital camera or some kind of cinema or medium format one.
Who knows what’s real anymore
Yeah, I had no idea ProImage came in 120. Love it in 35mm. To the expire film world, I have really enjoyed shooting some Ektachrome expired rolls in the past. TLR jason made an appearance. k byyeee
Hahahaha no one knows it was in 120
The thumbnail is such a banger hoooly
Hahaha
I’ve got a bunch of 4x5 ektachrome (like 100 sheets) that expired in the 80’s… this doesn’t give me a ton of hope for the shots 😅
Either way, great video as per usual Caleb!
Thanks so much! Yeah, I would definitely want to test that first. I do have some older Fuji slide film that still really good so you never know.
@@BadFlashes hopefully it turns out, but worse case scenario it doesn’t and I get to go mess around with my 4x5 for a day 🤷♂️
You need to shoot Portra Ultra Color. It is absolutely incredible.
I haven’t gotten that stuff
Can't fool us, fellas! We know after the lights were out and you said goodnight Jason crawled up into bed with you, it's just BroLove! (Also brb buying some Pro Image cause daaaaaaamn)
I mean right!!!!
You be the judge of which comment that was for 🤫😉
At 7:15, is that car driving backwards or is the video in reverse? That's just blown my mind 🎉
I’ll never tell!!!!!
Fun. E100SW "Infused with the patina of a bygone era."
Hahahah totally
Great video! Three comments…maybe four…
1. I hope your sister doesn’t see you drinking coffee out of a can, even worse, Starbucks… #WildWayCoffee
2. I agree fruit goes in the trash… #LongLiveKeto
3. You and Jason walking in the sand dunes reminds me of the Star Wars sand people…I think that’s a Star Wars thing right?
4. At least the Templeton rye whiskey you spilled was store bought and not “The Good Stuff.”
Best comment so far. 😝
On point with all of those 😂
This video inspired me to make horrible financial decisions...
I may or may not have bought 7 rolls of expired discontinued Kodak and Fuji stocks, as well as two rolls of mystery Jessops Diamond 400 color film.
Did you learn nothing hahahh
I do hope it turns out :)
I shot so much Vericolor years ago. It was great back then.
The good old days. 😜
16:47 that's Photochrome cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're saying I should be buying this film and a camera to use it in? That's even more pronounced than the last one although I don't think we saw the fullest extent of the color description.
I didn’t mean tooooo haha 😛
Yo is that ektachrome 64d I saw at the start the stuff I sent to Jason 😂 if it is it’s good to know it’s being used
🥰🥰🥰
That car was hauling ass in reverse at 7:16.
Hells yeah it was. People do crazy there.
That's always been my take on expired film. I'm perfectly capable of ruining every photo I take on my own, I don't need to bring in outside help
Hahahaha that’s funny 😆
Pro Image for the win
FOR THE WINNNNNNN
I have Tmax that expired in 2001. Should I just lower the camera iso by a stop or should I push it when I develop it?
How was it stored? If it’s 200 I’d rate it at 100iso
@@BadFlashes it was from a retired pro photographer so I’m assuming she had it in the freezer
25:44 What prism is that adapted to the Rolleiflex?
Idk lol
@@BadFlashes ask him, it is your friend.
My liver hurts watching the slow-mo pours
Cuz it is so good 😊
What is Donut Mexican Food 19:20 and why do I wish this place was still in business that I would drive from Canada to have a Mexican Donut! Like my mind is boggled as to what that would even be.
Hahaha maybe they couldn’t make up their mind
Like is it a donut with salsa? Jalapeno and Chocolate? Oh the wonders! It'd have done well in Calgary. @@BadFlashes
Hahahah I’d try it.
Perhaps a churro, soggy and bent into a circle, glazed at the joint to stay together and then heated and dried.
I think the silde film has a cool hipster look
Have i see this right Jason with a TLR?
I also did a double take
He was testing mine out for a hawt sec 😆
Kodak has GOT to bring back that shiny gold wrapper dude
Right
Start chugging something flaming hot until they do?
Do you tell the lab what you shot the film at, or avoid the push/pull fees and just let them process it normally?
depends on what im doing ... for this video ... dev and normal ... but if I do want to do a chemical pull / push I do tell them
@@BadFlashes Increasing exposure to compensate for age would not require altering development, but can you also expose normally and push the same number of stops to get the same boost? If that is not already known, would make an interesting test.
New episode day!
🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Why do you load your cameras in full bright sun. Can that damage the film in any way.
Thanks
Mostly it’s because I’m an idiot. Lol
It’s definitely not advised 😆
I am smokin' jealous of your Mamiya 7
I mean it is sexy :)
@@BadFlashes When a Hasselblad sees one the L falls off to become a mere Hasselbad.
OK, maybe I don't have to be afraid of that old stash of 400H after all.
Nawwwww probably not
I have that same flash unit and find it to be inconsistent. Anyone else have problems with it?
Lots of people have had that issue.
Your bounce flash problem was caused by direct flash spilling over the rim of the flash- just shield it with your hand
Next time
Always to the sniff test when it comes to expired stuff 😉
hahhaha oh yeah
Cuddle! Cuddle! Cuddle!
🤪😍
I was about to comment “woaaaah there buddy, Kodak still makes BW40CN for all your black and white c41 needs”… but thought I’d check my facts. Nope, discontinued 2014.
Yeah, my fingers on the pulse, I know what’s happening on the street, or wherever, sure.
Hahaha what you didn’t think I did do diligence research on all this 😂
@@BadFlashes I’ve no doubt it was fastidious and rigorous. And your research was good as well.
I’m just out of touch. 👀
@@PhilMakesThings He does his research in bright sunlight just like he loads his film. That way he can see it clearly.
@@mikejankowski6321 As is right.
Portra vc looks like Ektar, portraits will only look good on darker skin tones
Oh I can seee that
So out with it: who was the little spoon?
I’ll never tell
The things i'd do for some proimage100 in 120
Wow. Tell me more 😜😂🥳
2:28 Did anyone else slightly misread the sign? You know what I mean right....
🤷🏼 was there bad words? I didn’t think I saw any. Lol
@@BadFlashes "Right" - Just imagine it's Dr. Evil say it....
Can you please take a minute to address the dude driving in reverse at highway speeds?😮
Yo!!!! People be crazy there!
🙏😘🎉
😍🥰🫡
Marry me. I’ll protect my Boo from sleeping bag lurkers 😉
Hahahahahaha omg. Just what I need
You definitely do not have T-Max from the 1970s.
Why!!!???? Haha
@@BadFlashes It came out in the mid 1980s
having his picture in the thumbnail is Clickbait I thought this was a grainy days video.
He is in the video. What more do you want!!!!!!!!!
You should change your channel name to Bad Pictures.
Hahaha is that a dig or just some fun. 🤪
@@BadFlashes Well, I feel it is a better description of what you do. Although, those shots with the Mamiya I guess had a flash and they sucked too so maybe the name is somewhat accurate.
I'm just kidding around, the video was fun to watch.
🥰😘😍😘😘😘
Broke Bad Flashes. 😂
That is what ages gives ya lol
@@BadFlashes Dang it this is throwing me for a loop.🤔 I can't find the scene on you tube. Now I have to rent the video. Thaks a lot.,
You guys go around deserts and sleep in those motels drinking booze and it seems like you do this all the time, yet you still dring from plastic cups. GROSE. Get yourself some nice travel-friendly cups or glasses.
Hahaha you know what …. That’s a great idea 💡 😝
I really don't know why, probably artistic point of view, but your photos look superbly processed -> exactly how good negatives should look and Jason's look like literally crap....maybe old Jason is half blind.
wow
😍
Y'all need some biscuits and gravy.
I’d eat that
