Would you or Jason have any use for some 4x5 Polacolor Pro 100 that expired in October of '96? Someone near me is selling some for cheap but I don't have any way to shoot it.
But what would that boat look like on 400D in 35mm half frame?! How could I ever shoot boats with my brand new Pentax 17, when I have 400D loaded?? Caleb!!
CineStill's shady AF business practices all but ended my interest in the brand. Which is really...fine. Actually. It's nice buying from smaller mom-and-pop companies who do EXACTLY what they do and don't threaten peers with lawsuits.
@@jakobdelion2110 CineStill sent threatening letters to CATlabs and a few others over trademark infringement. They think they own "800T" and needed some legal muscle to secure a trademark. They essentially went after other small companies that repurpose Kodak film for still photography.
I've noticed my mamiya 7 sometimes winds the finished rolls a bit too loose, and i get the same light leaks! 9/10 from the top and bottom of the negative, and it all comes down to how much i cranked that lever when finishing off the roll
The 35mm Variant (as a mostly medium format user) is really really really good. Personally, I think it's overpriced for what it is, however, every once in awhile it's cool. I maybe shoot it once a month or so. I really like its flexibility in post especially in replicating movie looks as that's something I'm interested in. As for your light leaks, I have also noticed this only in the 120 variant and I believe this comes down to how they're manufacturing it. I've shot quite a few rolls of this stuff in both formats and if you look on the borders of the 400D in 120 you can see similar light leaks as the ones in your images but throughout the roll. Not sure why it's happening either but all my other 120 doesn't do this at all on the borders, so I'm assuming it's like I said how they're stripping or creating the stock.
Hey thinking of traveling to Northern CA and was wondering if you give me the location of the town the boat is in? I would luv to photograph that boat with my GFX 100s. That location looks so Epic! Any how keep up the great work! Even if you don’t give out locations of the subjects, continue the struggle my Man!!!!
Awesome shots as always. The 4x5 400D shots sing! I got a box too from the crowdraiser so I am looking forward to shooting it. You are right the best part is the price. Some 4.4Usd/sheet is way better than Portra's 7.5/sheet...now please someone anyone...bring this into 8x10. I'd love to try color 8x10 once in my life and at 28-31Usd/sheet I don't know if I could ever justify Portra
I must of been underneath a rock as I didn’t realise cinestill was doing 400D. 800T has worked great for me on set doing BTS shots. Cool comparison of each format. What FUJINON lens is that you have on large format? 135?
On the one hand, no one who uses Apple or Adobe* products has a right to judge anyone shooting Cinestill; in the other hand... I think the statement made things worse--not better. *The platinum standard of evil, Northrup and Boeing look under their beds for Apple and Adobe.
It could be that the camera with the 35mm film has incorrect shutter speeds and thus underexposes a little bit. Or are your 35mm rolls from the release batch or just older than the 4x5 and 120? Because movie stocks don’t age like stills stocks.
I too was wondering if the 35 was just a little underexposed by comparison. Even at that, though, the difference in the boat hull and surroundings looked inherent in the film response.
May the 4th be with you. I will lookinto this film. All your photos in all formats came out nice. I will say. From time to time I see a photographer that has interesting and unique light leaks on their photos. Yours are included. I think they add to the photos. I would personally keep them in if they were my photos and exhibit them in my art shows. Good Job.
@@BadFlashes that was mostly a joke, but it did catch my eye when you said it was called 400D because it is a 400 speed film then made a joke about the D. Their trademark claims may hinge on the idea that the D is not part of a technical description.
One thing I hate about this film is ….box! Maybe it’s stupid but for me this purple label is sooo misleading . I would fire guy responsible for it immediately 🤷🏻
I think using the point and shoot for 35 makes it kind of a useless comparison. You aren't choosing any of the settings so you can't really say that the shadows are worse on 35 if you don't know what settings were used. And the lens is soft. A lot of the 35 shots are not quite in focus which isn't an issue with the film stock but the camera. Still all around I think the comparison between 4x5 and 120 is super interesting.

I’ve only used 400D in 120 and must admit it isn’t my favorite film. I will freely admit I badly under exposed my first roll and believe me don’t under expose this stuff. Under exposed it is very muddy with a horrible greenish cast to it. My best results have been at ISO 200-320.
