  • Here are the different setups I use to video my artwork. I used to use a DSLR but now I use my iPhone & iPad now that Apple's cameras have gotten so good. Although it would be nice to have professional filming-rigs set up around the studio - I'm not quite at that point yet - In this video I'll show you the different techniques and setups I use to film my art from multiple angles.

    When I'm too lazy to setup but want to record my art process, I use the pop socket at the back of my phone cover. It helps get an upclose shot of my drawings.

      It can be very frustrating! Always room for all of us to improve - the makeshift setups work well once you're in your rhythm! Glad you enjoyed the video :)

    Thanks for sharing, lots of insights here! When you film your videos do you prefer in portrait or landscape mode? I always wonder what's the best method because portrait is preferred for social media but landscape for you tube and such........... so how do you go about it? Thanks :)

    • @fortyonehundred
      @fortyonehundred  3 года назад +4

      Great question Rooma - I am actually about to make a separate video about this! Depending on the topic - I mostly film horizontal (then can cut out vertical footage if needed), or I end up filming bits of both. How great would it be if it were all horizontal!!

    When you film with your phone and/or ipad how are you able to see whether the image is still in focus or frame? Do you plug it into your computer?

    Apple should sponsor you because you convinced me to get an iPhone 11 Pro for the camera and now I started making videos with it 💕 I also have a small ring light and tripod I used to use. I've since switched to a desk clamp style holder for the phone and it's amazing for me because my desk also holds two monitors, so I cannot fit a whole tripod during streams or anything really. I also use a clamp style desk lamp now but ring light for extra lighting!

      So glad you are enjoying the videos! Awesome to hear you bought the iPhone. Yes I have a great relationship with Apple :) The desk clamp sounds like a good idea - the light on my desk is like that, would be great for a phone mount too - I might add that to my studio thanks to your suggestion!

    Thank you, your video was very helpful. I have been trying overhead filming for detailed art (which I have to get in close for even with glasses and my head is constantly getting in the way. How do you deal with this or prevent this?

      Have you tried out her suggestion for using the coffee mug? Looks like it’d be pretty hard to get your head in front of that! I’m gonna try it out today and see how it goes. :-)

    Hmm… I didn’t think I had the equipment but with an iPhone camera, little phone tripod and small ring light, I think I might actually have everything I need to get started. 🤔

    IPad or iPhone - as far as I know you cannot pause the video, so you will land up with lots of short videos for the same painting. I guess you will have to have a editing program to stitch them all together? Orrr can it just be done without the editing program, especially for someone starting out?

    • @fortyonehundred
      @fortyonehundred  3 года назад +1

      I'm sure there are apps available that allow you to pause, then keep filming if that's something you're looking for! Otherwise there are apps like Premiere Rush (phone version of Premiere Pro) where you can edit videos. So you could add videos each time you film to the project making the editing faster. I end up with 20-100 separate videos and then edit them manually in Premiere Pro - definitely quite the process!

    HI thank you so much for your video. I found it very helpful as I did with your Skillshare vs Domestika vs RUclips video - however just a note, I found your voiceover to be too soft and I had my mic on max. I had to turn on a separate speaker to hear you. Maybe it's the music that is drowning out your voice? Just a feedback for the convenience of your other viewers.
