    You'll notice I'm not in my Tesla and that's because I dropped it off at a certified Tesla body shop. In this video I talk through the some of the problems I'm facing with getting my car fixed after some recent body damage to my Model S.

    Good news, tesla is currently working on the process of getting parts. This should be available soon. So 3rd parties can get parts directly from Tesla.
    This should improve your second point massively.

    • @AllThingsEV
      @AllThingsEV  7 лет назад +5

      Ruben Kelevra I'm familiar with this news but I don't think this would speed up the process. The problem is that Tesla is not producing enough parts, so whether I have a third party fix the car or do it myself, the bottleneck is with the manufacturer.

    • @ace00007
      @ace00007 7 лет назад

      What have you heard that they are working on fixing the parts and shop availability process?

    • @AllThingsEV
      @AllThingsEV  7 лет назад +2

      I have heard nothing. I don't know of any efforts by Tesla to remedy this.

    • @RubenKelevra
      @RubenKelevra 7 лет назад +2

      Robert Greenlee well this was undisclosed by Tesla after the P100DL+ limitations on the warranty terms was changed. So yes they are currently working on the legal and logistic part of a process to supply third parties with spare parts.

    I could see this becoming a problem for commercial vehicles where the loss of a fleet vehicle creates a very real business impact in the form of lost revenue. Taxis, couriers, rental cars, etc. The smaller operations are especially vulnerable if this vehicle comprises a large percentage of their fleet. I'm glad you introduced this into the purchasing conversation. I'm skeptical even an insurance package intended to cover the loss of business income, would include such a scenario. Interesting stuff.

    Good video. I'm saving up for a Model 3, and this was one of the things I had thought about. I recently had my Camry hit and scraped by an RV, then had it completely repaired a week later. Somehow Tesla will have to figure out this stuff when the Model 3 hits the streets. I can't imagine the 400k+ future Model 3 owners having to wait potentially months for even a small repair due to a near infinite backlog.

    We were in a major crash here in Denver when a distracted driver did a head on with the front left corner. It's becoming a huge ordeal to get the car fixed. The local shop is doing their best but they are overwhelmed and the repair costs quickly exceeded the limits of the insurance of the person who hit us so we had to switch the claim to our insurance. Tesla needs to fix this issue quickly before the Model 3 comes out.

    I would have preferred a comment "where I live this is a problem". Not all repair shops perform the same. Where I live, We have none of those problems and we have the exact opposite experience. Further, there is plenty of competition for Tesla repairs effecting the price since you are not required to go to a local authorized dealer- you can go to any authorized shop. Additionally, no high end manufacturer treats aluminum repairs the same as steel. Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Tesla, etc all require a shop in a separate location that only repairs aluminum to avoid cross contamination. Tesla is not a "normal" car. No one wants a robust Chinese used parts market and techs making $15.00 an hour to fix the worlds fastest and safest super car designed by the same rocket surgeons taking us to mars. Model 3 or otherwise.

    Just got my Tesla from the shop today. Someone hit my front bumper in a parking lot. We have one repair shop in the Salt Lake area. Took two weeks total. Quote/ order parts, week 1. Very good point. I believe that they are supposed to be opening many more body shops across the USA so that this doesn’t happen when I get my Model 3. I think that it will be bad for business if the mass
    Market model 3 has this long waiting time problem like they currently do with the lower volume model 3. I wonder if this issue will be prevalent with out her car companies EV’s?

    • @AllThingsEV
      @AllThingsEV  6 лет назад +1

      Agree. Tesla need to figure this out (among other things). Replacement part availability seems to be a real challenge for them. One thing that is making it difficult is that Tesla won't provide parts to any body shop that's not apart of their approved network.

    The truth about Tesla's is they will be money pits when they get old and out of warranty. They have way too much unnecessary electronic complexity that can go wrong as people forget they are essentially iPhones on wheels. You will go bankrupt when all those complicated computer systems start breaking down. There are like 65 CPUs in a Tesla S model. You wonder why Mercedes are endless money pits.

    • @AllThingsEV
      @AllThingsEV  6 лет назад

      Only time will tell. As for now, it’s been incredibly inexpensive.

    • @eman0828
      @eman0828 6 лет назад

      Sean Mitchell it maybe inexpensive while still in warranty. Tesla still struggles with quality control issues and electrical problems. The falcon doors was a mess. Thier electronic door handles have been notorious for failing. It happen to Tyler of Hoovies Garage when he rented an S model. Towards the end of the video the driver door electronic door handle malfunctioned. It's like it had a mind of its own. Tyler couldn't get in as he had to get in from the passenger side. It's just bad engineering as nothing will be more reliable than a mechanical door handle. I imagine how much that 17 inch touch screen computer unit would cost to replace once that goes. Since Tesla's are luxury cars, you better have steep pockets when shit starts to break. The Nissan leaf is a basic EV car that doesn't have all the complicated computers and unncessary electronic gimmicks like Tesla's. If Tesla wants to mass produce mainstream EVs they need to get rid of the unncessary electronic gimmicks.

      I drive 40 miles round trip. I usually have 35 miles left when I get home. I do have the option of plugging in at work which I do. I am waiting for a good price on a used ev that does 250 on a charge. Like a bolt or model 3 in about three years. I am a Dave Ramsey disciple a cannot justify so much money on a car. But if it works for you or anyone else go for it.

    • @AllThingsEV
      @AllThingsEV  7 лет назад +3

      Yes, for me I drive ~200 miles a day and in some cases outside of the city I live. It's important for someone to consider the range of the battery and ability to do fast charging when looking to buy an EV. For those that do drive a lot, are looking for an EV, need fast charging, a Leaf cannot be a viable option currently - I'm hopeful Nissan will continue to improve their batter range. I'm actually spending about 30% less driving my Tesla than my previous car, a Subaru Legacy. For me, it was purely an economic decision.

      Regarding crash results, they're still far greater than most cars. I'm assuming you're referring to the recent IIHS crash test results. Of the 5 categories the Tesla was tested in, they scored the highest rating in four. The one that caught the headlines was the small overlap test, which was one level below the highest rating. Furthermore, Tesla has already fixed the area of concern. I hope you'll still consider buying one. www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/tesla/model-s-4-door-hatchback/2017.
