I HATED THIS! | Shea Moisture Review: First Time Trying In 9 Yrs | Natural Curly Hair Product Review

- I swore off Shea Moisture when I was transitioning in 2011-2012 but I see so much hype about the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and wanted to see how if it was the product or my hair that was trash...
So background--I started transitioning in 2011, my hair was bleach and heat damaged. I remember using Shea Moisture's Coconut Hibiscus collection and Shea Moisture's Jamaican Black Castor Oil too and literally CRYING because it would take hours for me to detangle this mop on my head.
But I see so may people obsessed with the Curl Enhancing Smoothie and I saw it was in a new packaging so may be it was reformulated? IDK but I was actually sent some of products in a PR box for a Dollar General campaign and did an Instagram Question box and copper some of the faves and.. You gon' see...

► Hair Color:
This a custom color job, created by a stylist at a salon, using a professional system not available in beauty supply stores and which requires a valid cosmetology license to purchase--no I do not know the name. It cannot be recreated precisely and the shade looks different on me every time she touches it up since she blends it up on the spot and it changes shades every time I wash my hair.
Bleach was not used. We have been lifting my hair lighter and lighter over time using developer (which is not bleach) since October of 2015. I will not post a video on how to color because I am not a licensed cosmetologist and I will not give directions on how to use chemicals that I do not have a good understanding of. If you'd like help with achieving this color, please consult a LICENSED professional who specializes in natural hair because coloring will alter your hair and can damage depending on your texture and the process.

So I need y'all help! I applied for the #SephoraSquad this year because they're supposed to be increasing their Black Owned brands and adding more natural hair care!
I would love if you all could leave a testimonial for me to help me with the selection process! 👉🏾 bit.ly/2Og3KRa 👈🏾
This could really help take my brand to another level! Your testimonial could be short and sweet like "I love Daye's RUclips videos" or whatever is on you heart!-- unfortunately I won't be able to see them but feel free to DM me the testimonial on Insta so I can thank you personally or leave the link to your testimonial here in the comments if you don't have Insta!
Done!
Thank you so much!
Done
Done! I can't wait to see you as an ambassador!
Loved that word of wisdom at the end! I’ve been natural for what feels like forever and I find myself blaming products or being disheartened when he product doesn’t work. But I know good and damn well I do NOT have a consistent hair are regimen and it shows. So thank you for that reminder ❤️
YAY! Glad it resonated with you! Hope you have a turn around in your routine!
I’m still mad they stopped making that high porosity line! It was everything!
Dang ! I wonder why they stopped it.
Exactly that pissed me off because the masque was everything
What are the ingredients in it? Compare the base formula( functional) formula of all shea moisture products and you'll see they are all similar.
The moral of my story is that companies just switch around ingredients and slap the name they like on it.
Yep sis u should do that!!! Think out loud when u do ur hair. I live in my thoughts all the time. I know it's gone be LIT
Yes ma’am! I’ll do more like this!
Hope I wasn't too late to submit this!
Daye la Soul has got soul & a kind one at that! She knows her stuff & is so helpful to our community, producing quality content that is both approachable and hilarious. The Natural Hair Community can be intimidating and difficult to navigate but Soul has helped me through! She gives great information, tips, & tricks, and she keeps it all unbiased, so her adoring audience can apply it to our heads too. She is perfect for the Sephora Squad, y'all would be lucky to have her. Don't let this one go!
The smoothie and the souffle was my thang! I love the results!! It's so true!! You gotta have a routine and know your hair. Great video!! ☺❤
Even before I get into the video...that shea moisture enhancing smoothie is a no go for me. Complete waste of money. But your commentary has me literally lol, so I'm here for that lol.
LOL
I'm here for all of it. Shea moisture was my go to when I went natural. The Manuka Honey and Jamaican Castor oil lines are amazing.
Hi, i want to ask, is it really works the Jamaican castor oil for hairfall?
@@flowerarchives__ When I used it consistently I noticed that the thinning portions of my hair were growing back stronger.
The deep conditioner for this line is my go to after a wash and go. I live in Atlanta and the humidity just isn’t it. But that DC gives me life every time!!! Loving the hair btw.
Which line? The Manuka honey or the coconut hibiscus? I was trying to find an actual deep conditioner for either and couldn’t in stores. They prob sold out here 🤦🏽♀️
@@DayeLaSoul Manuka honey. Try target they usually have it. I had to go back to the routine my mom use to do on my hair when I was younger. And that DC goes perfect with the head and shoulder royal oils collection. Especially if you need sustained moisture and have scalp issues.
Thank you! I try to stay out of Target because I go in there for one thing and end up on a shopping spree but I’ll make a trip 🤣🤣
I agree, that Manuka deep conditioner works amazing and I hate Shea moisture products!! Lol
@@shabeauty4262 I feel the same way. Their deep conditioners are great. Outside of that...it’s a no for me.
I been using towel on my hair since my mom was using it out hair when we were little. Towels are not bad (that's what I believe). As long as the person not dragging it on their hair causing damage, then it's fine. Towel never failed me yet🤷🏾♀️
U look gorgeous btw QUEEN 👑👸🏾🙌🏾. Yasssss!!!!!
Right!
And thank you boo!
@@DayeLaSoul welcome ☺️
My hair loves honey too!! I also like their skin products. They have a face mask that is bomb!
The skin products never let me down!
The perm rod queen honestly 😭🥰✨
Girl I had that same jar back in 2014 opposed to the “new” formula and swore up and down it was trash. I definitely am going to give it another go! Awesome review, I love the side bar.
Morning! I’m definitely here for the side bar! Your perm rod sets are always on point! I learned how to do mine better because of your tutorials! Thanks for always providing great tips!
Thank you!!🥰
I love this hoodie so cute 💛. Your hair turned out so good. I don’t ever use Shea moisture never really have but... this makes me want to for sure.
Your hair is beautiful! That’s what I need to figure out what works for me. My texture has changed since going natural initially. And the products i used before don’t really work now.
Thank you! And yes, I hated when I went thru that phase, it was like starting all over again-that’s when I decided to learn my actual hair so I could make better decisions bc the needs of our hair can change month to month/season to season and depending on what we’ve done to it.
So i just watched this and honestly I loved it. I'm still not a huge Shea Moisture fan but I can appreciate the results that you got and learn different techniques that I want to try with the products I have. Thank you so much for this video. Also I love it when your hair has that last bit of color on the end. Seeing that was the reason why I colored my hair and I commend you for keeping it up as best as you can because color treated hair is no joke! Thanks again.
At the beginning when you said "i threw this little top knot on and proceeded with my day" I was like PERIODDDDDD. Hahahaha
😂 thats how it be LOL!
Yesss that shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie is my go to styler when I do my hair all year round but I’m def going to try that adding the oil t the cream during the winters good tip boo
The results are soo cute!! Your hair kind of looks like a heart. And you hair is so plump and full. And yes, I like the side bars in your videos :)
I loved the Shea moisture manuka honey shampoo, conditioner, and deep conditioner when I first started caring about my hair and I still do. That and the JBCO line were my favorite. Confession: I’ve never used the curl enhancing smoothie. I was using that cantu coconut curling cream at the time and thought it was everything plus it was cheaper for my high school budget
Cantu was my ish back in the day!
Your hair came out so nicely and without mousse!!
Yes! Thank you! It'll come out similar with any styler long as the styler actually works.
I'm just gonna say boo u never fail. Your hair and beauty is just breathe taking. Love love love it. And yes we love the sidebar ❤❤
Thank you so much 🤗
Thats hilarious...I’m all about the side talk...you can find anyone on youtube doing everything. If you’ve been natural long enough you’ve pretty much seen it all. It’s the personalities that make me subscribe...love the side comments. Hair turned out fabulous
It's crazy how pretty your hair comes out. 😍
I come for the side bar, the hair tutorial, the authenticity
Ahaha thank you! It be side bar that add a lil razzle dazzle to the rest 🤣
Try the Manuka Honey masque....my favorite product. Thanks for trying the curl enhancing smoothie. I tried it a few years ago and HATED it, consistency and how it sat on my hair, but just because of this video, I may give it another try.
I've seen you on Instagram & I don't think that I've ever heard your voice before. Loves it. New subscriber.
Loved this type of video. I was wondering why she moisturise wasn't working for me. Now I know. You hair is looking amazing!
Thank you!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️ I’m here for whatever you bring and tfs.
Yay! Thank you!
To me shea moisture has really watered down their products to accommodate others. I used to love the coconut and hibiscus curling smoothie and the apple cider vinegar and castor oil deep conditioner.
I think they also started using low quality ingredients.
@@deecee8953 mmm🤔.... never thought of that...
I’ve always been curious of the collection in the pink, however I’m definitely interested now
I'll def be pulling it out again, especially during dry months!
When I first went natural in 2011, their products were always my go to. I haven't used them in years cause my hair changed I guess. I do have one of their masks that I got as a gift that I use occasionally and it works well.
Yep that happens, we outgrow and our hair’s needs change, especially as the hair gets healthier. They’re a few things that I swore by when I was transitioning that don’t do much for me now
I also think when they changed owners, they changed a lot of their formulas.
+Farrah Paris I’ve been told by multiple people who work for companies who have sold that when the company (which is normally a major brand) acquired the smaller brand, they independently verify what’s in the products and how much of it with their chemists and turns out that a lot of times smaller brands dont report everything on their labels and they can fly under the radar being that they’re small but the big companies end up having to change the product and/or labels because their labs are directly under government regulations and they get penalties for mislabeling.
I’ve also heard a chemist in Clubhouse say the same thing and peeped that once some of these small brands have transitioned into major retailers, they start changing up their labels/formulas too. I say all this to say that we make a lot of assumptions and don’t know what goes on behind closed doors and why stuff changes.
@@DayeLaSoul Also, they buy their ingredients in bulk from a particular manufacturer therefore, they prefer to use the in house formula. Example V05 and Suave have very identical functional ingredients. Etc.
I find Shea moisture products to be quite 🗑. Everyone raves about this and that, I go try it and not impressed! Had to leave that toxic relationship.🤣
Thanks for sharing very informative. I want like to see you use the design essential natural hair products.
Thank you! Noted!
@@DayeLaSoul You’re Welcome!
Super cute, I use to use Shea moisture but my scalp doesn’t like coconut oil. Great video!
Thank you!
Love this combo! Have to try it! Your rod sets are fiyah! 😍
Thank you! 🤗
Looks great. You always do a great rod set. I've learned a lot from your techniques. I would love to see a review on As I Am products. Also, I like the extra commentary. Thanks!
Thank you boo! And I’ll be sure to add more!
@@DayeLaSoul yes, a product series! X
Keep the side bar sis, it's relatable ! 😂 Also your perm rod sets are always on point !! ❤️💯
I love the jbco shampoo but my hair hated that smoothie lol. Always made my hair dry and brittle
I legit think they improved the formula. I dont remember it being this thick and creamy.
This is a staple for me and yes the deep conditioner is the BOMB!
Keep the sidebars COMING !!!
Makes your videos so REAL.
Yes maam!
I love all the infor. Great job like always
Please... give us all the commentary. 💁🏾♀️😍 Woo Chile this hair.
Yes ma'am and thank you!
The sidebar is where it's at. You always slay the rod sets.
The deep conditioner of that line of shampoo and conditioner is really good
Noti gannnggg! Good morning Crew!💛🤸🏾♀️
Update: yesss give us the sidebars!
Yassss GANG GANG!
GM boo 🥰
The Manuka honey and mafura oil shampoo and conditioner was trash for me. The shampoo left my hair a tangled mess and the conditioner didn't help. The deep conditioner was amazing though. I don't buy their hair products anymore though (except for the JBCO blow dry creme) because their products just aren't the same anymore
🙌🏾
@@DayeLaSoul your hair turned out great!
The only line from Shea moisture that i ever liked was the black castor oil. That one was always so good!
I may give that a go next since ppl keep bring it up!
I'm here for the side bars!!!
Jbco line from SM is bae. I always Keep products from that line on deck. That line is the only line from Shea moisture I like. Hopefully you can try that cause folks are right, it’s a staple
I might check it out next!
Yes ma’am your hair is always lovely ❤️
People love to come for shea moisture but their products are goodt. You gotta try the jbco if your hair loves protein it's my fav line
I think it’s partly to do with the fact that they have soooo many lines, you’re bound to have a bad experience if you don’t pick properly... But the fact that they’re forever growing and expanding means they’re doing something right for their customers tho!
@@DayeLaSoul aside from that, they don't read and follow instruction, they don't shampoo properly and they don't work in the products into the hair very well.
Happy Sunday. The results turned out good. You hair is gorgeous. If you get a chance maybe you can try a rod set with the new Camille Rose honey mousse Have a wonderful week
Happy Sundayyyy! I have that and currently debating on posting it or enjoying it privately lol
@@DayeLaSoul 🙂

I'm here for the stories so tell us the crazy stuff that pops in your head
🤣🤣🤣
I still love the curl enhancing smoothie but ever since I used Kryia Botanicals, it’s it for me #gamechangerformylowporosityhair
I really slept on it all these years lol... and let me look that brand up. Never heard of it before 👀
Same here sis. My hair loves honey 🍯
Where did you get your hoodie ?
#DayelaCrew.🧡🧡🤸🏾♀️ I'm late but I'm here for the best stories and the Dope Content.
Thank you!!
Cantu Shea butter moisturizing curling cream works better for me compared to shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie
I used to love Cantu and haven’t used them in years either. I may go back and try them as well just to see.
@@DayeLaSoul I only love that curling cream form cantu line
🤣🤣.. It was the leave conditioning repair cream for me! I think because it was protein-rich and I had so much damage. I would carry it to the salon and all.
@@DayeLaSoul 😂😂OMG
That curling cream has been my ride or die along with the aunt jackies leave in and design essentials curl enchancing mousse. They all make a bomb wash n go for me.
I use old tshirts and pillow cases to dry after shampoo/conditioner
My boyfriend uses tees lol
I had the deep conditioner for the honey line. I liked it but I wasn’t a fan of the smell. So it would be my last resort, for me the smell lingered.
I love when my hair as a fragrance but I def feel ya
@@DayeLaSoul I like when the fruity smells linger, that one was not fruity!! LOL.
Ohh that def makes sense! Lol
When I was first transitioning I only used Shea moisture. I’m interested in how it will work for me now.
My transitional brand was Carol's daughter. They had this chocolate smoothing system that had me smelling like a snicker😁
They're at Dollar General for the low if you want to experiment.. And I always say take it back if it doesn't work! LOL
@@DayeLaSoul you are the Real MVP!!! They need a best influencer award so you can have it!!!!
@@anikawilson1937 I just tried the wash day delight. I never experienced their OG products

Lol yes would love some story time while your taking down your hair
Beautiful Daye 😍

Good morning! 🌞
Good morning boo!
For the manuka line, the deep conditioner comes in a jar.
Noted!
@@DayeLaSoul it also has a thick creamy consistency. Just a heads up.
Wow, someone, who doesn't bang with olive oil. It thins my hair out. Unfortunately, it's in a lot of natural hair products. I get disappointed a lot so I stick to particular brands.
I can do it if it's a small amount, like low on the label but if that's one of the primary, nope.
@@DayeLaSoul ok i will look again and see what i can find with it lowwwwww in the list and try them out.
The truth is that I don’t trust Shea moisture. I also used it when I was transitioning and I noticed it didn’t do much for my hair. Everyone swears by it but there’s just a lot of other natural products so I don’t think I will be using it
Lol ok that’s fine
I was in that room listening in
Can someone tell me if it works or not?
I literally just old you and showed you 😂
@@DayeLaSoul thank you 😂😂
Love this
Thank you!

👏🏾
Swear they changed the formula or something it’s not the same
They def did because it did nothing for me before but it’s so moisturizing now and the consistency is much smoother/richer and more emollient based, whereas before it was more on the watery side with and clumpy.
Well damn I guess I'm not going to sleep now. 😂😂 It's no hate to shea moisture. But I haven't bought their products in year's. I think I only bought them for the hype.
I feel you! I only used their body products for years
Super 🥰 is
