I enjoyed your review. Your enthusiasm for the books really shows! I have only read one Jane Austen book so far and that was Northanger Abbey. I had the book for about 10 years before I read it, and then I watched a review like this on RUclips. And when I finally did read it, I loved it. I even joked to the reviewer that I would start an Isabella Thorpe Appreciation Society because the character was misunderstood 😂. But anyway, these 2 books sound interesting and must be well written because they clearly seem to have won your heart. Thank You for sharing.
@@mayareviewsbooks1313 Ha! Isabella Thorpe! A lot of that was just me being a contrarian. I suppose when I first read the book I just enjoyed her and Catherine's relationship. Catherine finally had a friend to talk to. Isabella was such a lively character with personality that it was easy for me to overlook her faults. I would say "Did she really do anything THAT bad? I think Catherine is being too hard and unforgiving on her BFF." Of course, in real life, if I ever had any dealings with a woman like Isabella I would probably despise her in very short order! But I did enjoy her as a character. I figured a woman may have a different insight into Isabella than me, so when I asked the other RUclips reviewer what she thought of her, she replied something like "I loved hating her." 😁
That’s an interesting perspective! I think that Isabella isn’t a villain in the way that characters like Wickham and Willoughby are but I would place her in the same tier as Mr Collins in Pride & Prejudice and Frank Churchill in Emma-pretty annoying but ultimately not super harmful haha 😄
I just came across these books on Instagram yesterday but I was a little hesitant to add it to my tbr. After watching this, I think I might pick it up after I'll finally read Persuasion (I've been putting it off for about a year now but I've read P&P, Emma, and S&S). Glad to hear that you liked it :)
