The chords are simple. Am, G, D, Em, A - all open position chords. But then we can use half barre chords up the neck all the way to the 12th fret in some parts.
The use of hammer-on chords are tricky and so this song is a good exercise in working with those on the open G and D chords.
In the lead section there is a signature double stop riff that just can't be left out but most of the intricate guitar work in the original recording I skipped over making my own arrangement instead. This song has many layers as a band arrangement but you have to simplify when playing solo.
I did use a looper during the solo section so that you can hear the main chord progression in the background while the double stop riff and lead is playing.
There is also a backing track starting at 17:31 until 19:05 just in case you want to practice the lead section yourself.

Sounds so good!
Hi Hal, you are telepathic! This song was on my learn list for this weekend and just about to do a search and your tutorial came up. Fantastic lesson and great vocals on the cover. Cheers and stay safe!👍👍
Hi Keef, telepathy is my super power. LOL !! Glad I could help out. ;)
Thank you.This really helped me.
I found you looking for Drop C tuning instruction to play some metal songs by Disturbed and ended up learning Mary Janes last dance.
You explain very clearly.
Hi Robert, thanks. :) So glad that you are here.
Another great lesson sir!!! I had a little difficulty figuring out the strumming pattern. If you could put the rough strumming pattern here, it might help someone else. I roughly figured out to be
D_D DUUD DUD.
Hello Parshant, At 7:02 I'm playing D D D DU DUD D DU - The downs (D) are on the beats and the ups (U) are between beats. 1D 2D 3D 4DU 1DU 2D 3D 4DU. I've thought about making a video focusing in on strums.
I’d love that because I’m a self taught guitarist with literally no exposure to music prior to the age of 19 which is why I have hard time figuring things out by my ear. The things that I find most difficult are strumming patterns because they are happening so fast and phrasing of the notes. From your videos so far, I find that I’m able to grasp the phrasing rather quickly, but strumming has been a little unclear.
Lastly, I appreciate the fact that you break down complicated thing in beginner friendly things which has accelerated my growth as a guitar player! I learned 5 songs in the past week, 4 of which were learned through ur videos. So keep it up!!!
P.S. I made the comment on the wrong post. I meant to make these comments on your Scar Tissue video.
@@parshantjuneja4811 No problem Parshant. Strumming and rhythm is my biggest hurdle. Figuring out strums and trying to teach them is a challenge for me sometimes. My hope is that I can get those ideas across clearly. Everyone learns differently so that is part of the challenge.
Where are you I need private lessons?
Love your guitars, I don't know why but I hadn't realised yamaha done tele style guitars, I am assuming it's Japanese and not a made in China yamaha, I know a lot of there acoustics are made in China now. It looks and sounds fantastic.
Hi James, this guitar was made in the 1990's. I got it in 1992. Yes, I think it is Japanese made. I bought it when I just needed an electric guitar and didn't have much money. Here's my video about it. It has surprised me over the years. It plays really well and sounds great too. ruclips.net/video/9kwvBilIPic/видео.html
@@quailstudios very nice a great investment.
Great video, thx!!! Q: do you always play using the round edge of the pick? I have been trying that myself, I think I like it. 🤔
Actually I almost always use the rounded edge. Have you seen my video about using a pick? ruclips.net/video/tHWbHhSRvhc/видео.html
Thanks for watching my videos BTW!
@@quailstudios thanks, I have now! I've been using the Tortex orange .60 for acoustic.
@@44scoots My favorites are the yellow and orange. Lately I've been using Orange. The yellow thicker pick makes a darker sound.
