I have 2 Field notes in my pocket. 1 for random thoughts, ideas, quotes almost a quasi common place book. Most of the stuff in this one makes it's way into my actual common place book. The second is for my 8 critical tasks of the day. I keep a long list of tasks and highlight the 8 most critical. Then cross them out as they are done. The next day the highlighted tasks that aren't become the start of the critical 8 list of that day. Thanks for the video!
i am unemployed, don't have a fixed routine don't do much to be planed, but i still want to write, so i made diy pocket books and writing what ever in my mind and what i do. just practicing so i can start my diary or journal.
honestly i hate most of these videos about having multiple things for diffrent purposes cause it usually an overkill but the productivity notebook is actually genius thank you so much

tbh i'm amazed that those little books are enough for you. i use ~6 notebooks and 2 diagram books (i convert my writing into diagrams) that i write almost daily. i do like how you structured your goal book (aka productivity).
For me I pile all in one pocketbook and organize with an index at the front with the page number for lists and goals. I migrate all important dates to the Cozi app so my family can see the dates as well.
I'm trying out Notion for this week...It's hard for me because I love writing on paper. I'm particular about my writing and stationery instruments. Interesting planner system that you have. Thank you for sharing it. I have a bunch of pocket notebooks, that I use for various things.
Thanks for the feedback Brittany! I definitely agree about writing on paper. I've found that Notion has been working great for me when writing longer form things and for overall idea organization. Super powerful app. I appreciate the input!
Epic Eric! I use them too! I love using them for high level important tasks. These would be non negotiables for me. Loveeeeee seeing people still using notebooks. Apps have a place too, but the simplicity of a notebook is fantastic. Top stuff mate.
cool thumbnail and set! as a first time viewer I was surprised at how well you kept my attention guess I gotta subscribe to figure out how you did that haha
How about combining the ideas by subject title into a 'commonplace journal/book', would that work to keep your daily notes by idea, subject, and or information?
I totally get that! Staying organized in different notebooks is a good way to change that. Or, transfer some most important things to digital. Thanks for watching!
The sink thing made me laugh cause I did the exact same thing when I had a leak under my kitchen sick. I drew a full diagram of the piping in my notebook so I knew all the parts and how I could put it back together once I’d replaced the faulty section.
Sweeeet! I typically carry my pocket notebook with me most places I go using the Welsh Mtn Field Journal (welshmtn.com/products/field-notes-journal), and my planner and notepad stay at home depending where I'm going. If I carry all three, I simply throw them in my backpack with my laptop if I'm heading out to work for the day at a coffee shop, etc. Hope that helps!
👍hello I have a question about the productivity notebook , could you tell me what time do you use it ? maybe the start of the day or the end of the day? maybe you can tell more details~
Great question! I typically write in the evenings (end of day) and reflect on what I did throughout the day. If I don’t get around to it in the end of day, I will do it in the morning and reflect on the previous day. Hope that helps! 😄
I like your concept of having three different notebooks for the things you talked about in the video but I feel like, for me at least, most of the stuff bleeds into each other so it's hard to make each notebook exclusive to "planning" or just "organizing." I bought three pocket sized notebooks but now I'm just wondering how to categorize them between daily and weekly to do list, work notes, journaling, quarterly goals, important dates, and progress towards goals without having 20 different notebooks.
Totally understand what you mean! My processes/notebooks are always a work in progress. Realistically, a lot of my notebooks blend into one another and I'm never super strict about maintaining perfect boundaries within each one. Documenting things on pen and paper are worth it no matter how unorganized it becomes.
I bought the moleskin planer based on your recommendation and I love it. It’s been a tremendous help. My only issue is the type of ink/pen to use. I love the sharpe gel and the lamy pens but the moleskin paper is way too see transparent. Any recommendations?
Glad to hear you enjoy it, that’s great! I use Zebra pens (ball point) and really enjoy them. I agree that the Moleskine paper can be a bit difficult to write on. I have a link to the pens I use in the description of the video if you’d like to give them a try :)
How do you define productivity? How do you use your productivity notebook different than your notes? Is it a more distilled version after some thought?
Good questions Eric! I like to think of productivity in this sense as making progress towards my goal each day, and keeping me accountable to take action. The productivity notebook is mostly used for the documentation of this progress. But yes - this also includes more distilled down notes for more important, longer lasting ideas beyond daily to-dos and quick "throwaway" notes.
That’s a good question. I used Zebra ball point pens and they work just fine on the waterproof paper. Not exactly sure how water-based inks would be - I’d guess they wouldn’t work super well! Rite in the Rain does sell non-waterproof notebooks to give a try though!
Yep, better get your cargo pants on! 😉 The idea isn't that you need to carry all three at all times. I put mine in a backpack along with all my other gear.
@@ericpfohl For me, the goal is get less notebooks to carry. I think a lot of this is specific to the work, and the person. I am 53, and have kept a journal going since I was about 12 (the last day of 6th grade), and this went through spiral notebooks through my 30s, then moleskines for about 20 years. For about a decade the Day Runner thingy was the centerpiece. Then it was a moleskine day planner, then the phone. Then Bullet journaling. I am trying to get this down to sort of 2 notebooks. A thing I carry every day to track stuff (sort of a Bullet journal thing), and a common place style collection book. But, I want less notebooks.
@@DinoCorvino That's awesome - love to hear how long you've kept up with it! I agree, less is more when it comes to most things in my opinion. If I personally had to keep it to two notebooks, I'd definitely choose the planner and the pocket notebook. The "notepad" I talked about in this video is more of a quick catch-all for lesser important things. Thanks for the input!
For a quick catch all. Samsung S23. When I pull the stylus out it opens to a built in note app. Click save slide stylus back in and move along. Items moved to where ever when needed.
Wait What?! You are an adult who can't remember the quarter of the year ends between march and april every year. So you have to write it in your notebook? I have a bad memory, but I can remember my birthday, Christmas and the four quarters of the year.
I wish there were pocket notebooks that girls could actually fit in our pockets. Like maybe the size of a phone. Also I wish there was videos of girls using pocket notebooks or at least someone who makes theirs cute. All the videos I see are of men with HUGE “pocket” notebooks and messy handwringing that’s all in black or blue with no doodles or anything. Haha I totally get you Jennifer! The Field Notes pocketbooks are only a tad wider than my iPhone 14. Very similar size that usually fit well in back pockets! The nice thing about the spiral ring of the notepad, you can clip a pen to it and use the pen like a handle to pull it out of your back pocket.
