@@MattRagland no questions as of now. I wanted to share that as an ADHD person I find it hard to pursue tasks that aren't gonna cause a fire right away So I have created weekly habit , routine and tasks tracker which i draw on an A4 sheet , like imagine 5 different rectangles of habits to track in health, work, spiritual practice etc on bottom half of the page (in landscape mode) and 7 squares on top for daily tasks. And i keep the page displayed on the desk. So even my wife, when she walks in to my home office, takes one look at it and knows that half the area of the rectangle of health isn't blackened this week while the one for work is completely black(say). So I can immediately reorient myself for the next day.. and know that I'm slipping on the health front. This act of displaying or keeping visible the trackers and tasks is what has been revolutionary for me..and you can share with others, especially ADHD peeps.
I have actually broken down my bullet journal into two journals one is tasks & trackers - collection of weekly A4 pages that I keep visible on my desk and the journal for Thoughts-and-notes.. it has bullet points of thoughts, plans and ideas along with notes quotes etc.. which are in my journal and not for display.
And it's great for my mental health too. At nights when I question of my life's going anywhere, I can take one look at my tasks and trackers for the week.. with say 90% of the boxes against habits blackened, for each day of the week, and i know I'm going as per plan and doing the best I can
Maybe I missed it, but where is the link to the bullet journal you are using in this video. I saw the journal link to some rhodia and Moleskine stuff, but nothing to the specific journal you are using here.
I have come to a crossroads in my life where I want to be really intentional for the next 5 years. I am hoping to use the bullet journal to become more focused and have one place where I improve my productivity and take notes from meetings. I want to have one place where this all lives so that I only need to worry about one notebook. As someone who attends many business meetings a day, can you provide any tips or strategies. I have been practicing and my daily log is always more than 2 pages due to meeting notes. Is that ok?
Man, did this ever speak to me. So much about the whole bullet journal core appealed to me from the earliest days, but it soon became, at least to the accounts one would find with a quick googlin’, was basically arts and crafts meets show and tell/humblebrags. I really feel you’re bringing it back to the actual goal, which was simplification and productivity, using it as a tool and not as the end itself. Kudos, and thanks! I’m inspired all over again. 👍
I love the artsy bullet journals out there. But it really is overwhelming and, for me, not functional. I’m not an artsy person; I don’t have great handwriting; I just need something to help me keep my head on straight and not missing appointments and events. I’m glad the functional bullet journals are starting to come back - even people online who call their bullet journals “minimalistic” and “functional” put stickers or use markers. I want to see pen and paper only.
Thank you for this video. This will be my third go at bullet journaling. I always gave up before because it was taking too much time to make all the layouts and trackers I thought I had to have. I am going to start with the daily tasks and just focus on that. Thank you.
I appreciated your fresh approach to a simpler way to get started, then build on it. Question for future rabbit holes to explore; maybe do a series on mapping David Allens GTD methods using bullet journal tools?
with the vertical monthly, i like adding a line under each sunday to help break up the calender week! i also underline the last three grid spaces on that same row for easy habit tracking (like watering my plants!)
I do similar. I put a vertical row for bills, just put a for meaning something is due(if it's irregular then I actually put it on that horizontal row. The regular are in another collection). After that vertical row I put the day off the month/week. Leave last 4 vertical rows for habits or tracking
I’ve done bullet journals for years, but I think I’ve never really taken the time to investigate WHY I failed to do a task or make progress toward a goal. I think adding that intentionality on the back end could be really helpful.
Thx Matt. Your timings on the dispatch of this video are great. I’m setting up my stealth bujo this week - a really impressive journal format…. and the tips you imparted are Priceless. I’m not one for pretty pictures and the KISS approach really resonates with me. Especially GAP. Here’s to a really productive2025. Seeking to get intentionality back in my life and document so I can see patterns and weed out those detrimental ones and replace with beneficial ones. Btw. Congrats on 💯k. Subscribers. 📈👍
I do a similar version to this, and I have been doing it for a long time before someone labeled it a bullet journal. I did try a few of the tricks that are used in the bullet journal but I found it to annoying. The best thing I do now is a setup to the everbook, it is fantastic for flexibility, it has worked amazingly for me.
Enjoyed perusing your bookshelf! Excited to see someone else who has Sean McCabe’s Overlap. Edit: I’d love to hear your journey of using bujo vs digital tools. I love both and am often torn between them and find myself going back and forth a good bit between BUJO and Things 3 for tasks, BUJO and Day One for journaling (I have a large Day One streak), and BUJO and Agenda/Noteplan for detailed notes. Would love to hear your insight on the path of finding what works best for you.
I am retiring soon and want to begin to bullet journal. I am curious though how do you document appointments or activities that have strict start times?
I may be doing a bit of a reach with this question, but is the book in the back "Teach Everything you know" an actual book, & if so, who is it by? Also, love the video. Really forcing me to take notes. Especially since my 2024 Bujo had NO intentions on the intentions page.
You didn't talk about this but one thing that I have been thinking a lot about whether I even should start a new journal for 2025. My 2024 journal still has almost half of the pages left. I get super caught up in the idea of one year one journal and I think it actually stiffles me a bit because I don't want to try new layouts that involve using more pages. Have you created content around whether it makes sense to have just one journal for a calendar year or just continue on an existing journal?
Honestly, just do what works for you. I switched to an A4 journal so it lasts 2-3 years now. I don't switch to a new journal until I've used that last page. 🤷🏽♀️
@@MattRagland Same here! i use exactly that Calendar (fantastical personally), and apple reminders. Do you have a video on how you make it all work together? Or at least a reminders with bojo?
Are you setting up a new bullet journal this week? Ask your questions and let’s have a great 2025!

Matt, this video timing is some black magic wizardry
Oh? How so? 🤔
I just went on a kick of your videos again last night and was wishing you had a refreshed bujo video. And voila!

I wish I could like this video more than once! This is fantastic!
Thank you so much!
Congrats on 100K!
Thank you so much 😀
Glad to have you back Matt!
Happy to be back
Great video. I really like how you've simplified the system of bullet journaling. I'm going to try this in 2025.
Thanks for the video. Just starting my journaling journey. This video was helpful.

always quality content! great video! have a happy new year!
Happy New Year to you too!
Thank you. I'm new and was getting a little overwhelmed 😅
It can feel that way sometimes, but it’s much simpler than you might think!
Thanks Matt. Congrats on 100K

Yes I do! Calendar is one thing I can’t ever kick. Needs it for time blocking and reminders.

bro, I'm sorry but damn, you look like the dad in vice versa ! Wow
which is a good thing!
