About this song: John Denver got a chance to visit oceanographer Jacques Cousteau onboard his ship "Calypso." The story goes is that John got on the bow of the ship and was struck by everything and wrote the song right there. He had the royalties of this song donated right to the Jacques Cousteau Foundation. The Wildlife Concert, I had the 2cd set of the concert and I listened to it everyday in high school and I still have it! Please try "Shanghai Breezes" from the concert (that was his last big hit), "Poems, Prayers, and Promises" from the concert (I posted my favorite version in the last video from the BBC show he did), and the last one I'd pick would be "Matthew." It's a hard choice to pick just a few songs but I'll add to the list more you react to them!
John Denver was Wonderful... .

That thoughts run through my head too
That voice of his. Geez. Nothing like it. So powerful. And he was in his 40's when this was recorded. One of the few performers whose voice got more powerful as he got older.
From what I understand the Calypso was saved and refurbished. She even sailed out on a voyage once more.
The song talks about how she taught them and showed them so much on her many voyages.
This is one of my many favorites of John Denver. He was a Brilliant Singer-Songwriter.
Gone far too soon !!
His vocal range is phenomenal! Talent on loan from God as the great Rush Limbaugh would say. 👍👏♥️♥️
John Denver simply the best
John was one of the first celebrities to use his celebrity to make people aware of Climate changes
The Calypso was the ship used by Jaques Coustous..
Yes, you did make me put my hands in the air 😊
You should also listen to his live version of 'For You' from the Wildlife Concert. It is stupendous.
My very favorite love song of all time!
When a great Pioneer (Jacque Cousteau)invites a great songwriter conservative aboard you get a great song ..
The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau and the Calypso...part of growing up. Please react to Back Home Again by John Denver. I keep hoping someone will do a reaction to that song. It really speaks to by heart.
