So...I rarely post weekend tutorials, and almost never on a Saturday night, but this was a tip I was really excited to find out about. Let me know if you knew you could do this in the comments below! (Maybe I'm the only one that didn't know?) :p
This is very useful thank you. Again it would be nice having the option to change material by face. I think it's a must in rendering software where the same object could have different painted faces

Jamie Thomson I’m importing fbx coloured model into twin motion . When I tried to add another model into the same scene the colour automatically changes .. how to fix
@@ramakrish2705 I am not familiar with fbx coloured models but my suggestion would be to save it as a different file (save as, new name) and import it so there is no reference to the original. Might work?
Nice video thank you. However it would be nice (viewing some comments below) to show us how to prepare properly a Sketchup model for Twinmotion. For example if we make a simple room 10x10m with "Rectangular" tool in Sketchup, offset to give thickness to the wall and then with "Push/Pull" tool raise the walls to create the volume/space, then whatever we do, this is like one object in Twinmotion. ONLY if we apply different colors/textures at the faces in Sketchup before import it in Twinmotion, we can then apply different materials in Twinmotion. Otherwise when we apply a material in Twinmotion it is applied in every element that have the same color/texture in sketchup.
I realized this issue early on, was going back and forth changing the material ID in sketchup, until I found out this feature in Twinmotion. good catch J.
Great videos. I'm learning so much about Twinmotion. I will say (I'm building my models in 3DS max) that if all your UVW mapping is setup properly in the base model that all the material grain direction / scale issues sort themselves out when applying textures (particulary for roofs with valleys and non-uniform geometry details) :)
God thank you! I can get my night sleep now! I thought what was I doing wrong! I checked my UVs a 100 times then checked if the meshes were seperated. But not matter what it just kept applying to all the object. Didn't know that button did that! Thanks!
HI. Justin Thanks for the videos. How to control the layer names imported from SKP model. When it has been imported all the properly names layers from SKP turn into some randome names...
Thank you for this tutorial, is there another way to import models with the exact same 3Ds Max materials for example, or do I have to re-assign maps to every map channel
@@TheRenderingEssentials I'm talking generally, I have to assign all materials separately in twinmotion for every imported model because the original materials are not importable, thank you anyway
Hi ! V-ray is a Renderer ! If you wanna work with V-ray wich is a very good renderer but not for realtime purposes, you still have to work with some kind of modeling software like sketchup, 3D Max or else.
Thank you for that. However, I tried changing this setting and for whatever reason it did not allow me to set materials to individual components after trying to change collapse settings. I tried "collapse all" "collapse by material" and I also made sure to apply to object but unfortunately it is all kinda grouped together. What this means is that all external walls all gets the same material. It may be the case that by creating several walls and change materials inside revit (the outmost layer) will help this but ideally it would be great to apply materials to specific faces.
This is the first thing I learned after I downloaded twinmotion. It's a very powerful tool and I don't know if you could do it in lumion because I was using lumion before.
a question about walls, when i eg. have a putside wall from a room so one aide facing inside other one facing outside, how can i change both wall textures uniquely? ot alwqys just changes the whole texture of the wall segment.
hi man even when i import my 3d model with keep hierarchy on i can only apply material to the whole thing not individual objects. any help would be appreciated
how can i import all materials and settings from one TM file to another? I would like to recover the material system from an old version of a file to the new one, without having to start over.
Thanks for sharing. The impression I’m getting is that SU materials should be kept as simple colours, leaving all complex textures with twinMotion, right?
Not really - if you're modeling JUST for Twinmotion rendering you might set it up like this, but there's nothing stopping you from adding textures in SketchUp, then just swapping them out in Twinmotion - really a question of what's easiest for what you're trying to do
very nice and wanna ask how is it when i made some changes in my skp model and dont want rework all that things in TM again /i mean change materials etc/ and is it possible to export some geometry made with TM into skp ?
