Thanks for this! I'm an out of towner that comes to record and play rounds, and I'm hoping when I come back in February to play that I'll also get to be a part of a writing session. It's so much harder since I don't live in Nashville. I perform full time, so the hangup is usually the choice of a decent paying gig over a round that I'll have to drive 8 hours to get to to not make anything. I'm ok with that. I sincerely love music and jamming with new and interesting people, and I try my best to book things on the way to help. Last time I was in town I played a round at Alley Taps. Just one. I enjoyed my time but I felt like it was almost a wasted trip. I have dedicated my life to my work and I know it's all a part of the journey, but it's still hard to swallow. I appreciate this video a lot. You got my subscription.
The old songwriter say late 70s to mid 80's wrote the best songs they kicked you right in the nuts,, squeeze the heart out of your chest or made you love a woman more than you ever knew u could. You don't hear that much on the on the radio. Once in awhile at the end of the singer CD there's a nice ballad or sad song. That should have made it.
I think it’s awesome that you touched on being in the room with other writers and just being able to have friendships. When I first started writing I learned from trial and error that it wasn’t all about going in and immediately trying to pull out the ideas. I hate to admit it, but I use to try to dominate a room *(cringe)* because I thought it was all about “let’s get to work!” Love this video, I have learned a lot and still have a lot to learn and ALWAYS WILL. Good luck to you!
Their people outside of Nashville that can write songs and poems but just don't get there stuff out . I got pages and pages of poems. Some sad .some love. Some party songs.. this Bradley Walker guy has more talent and tradition in his voice . Jason Michael Carroll great country singer. Hope these guys get on the charts I know both these guys can handle great. Both can sing a lot of different writers material.
You don't have to be Mainstream to be a great Songwriter especially when you think about songwriters like Townes van zandt Guy Clark and Jerry Jeff Walker
So what are you guys track record as writers, have you had cuts, who by, what publishing companies have your songs in their catalogue. People need advice from someone of consequence not just some guys who live in Nashville who write songs. There's tons of those in that city.
This was v helpful, thank you! Trying to decide if I'm moving down and it's nice to hear two people talking about do's and don'ts once you get there.
Thank you Marty for joining me today and sharing your wisdom and experience! Be sure to go give him a follow!
... a lot of great songs are written outside of Nashville !

Loads of people, including myself, would seem to disagree with your perspective. 👎🏻
