From someone who has gone through mental illness with my young son, the help is mostly marginal. After 3 years we finally found the cause, many mainstream couldn't find the cause only medication to mask it at best. You have to find the root cause! I f you get so emotional at a stranger on the road or where-ever and are about to just let them have it, find something to complement them on. My bet is most people can not! 3 neighbors, 2 long time, have moved out because they don't feel safe anymore. We all are very aware how there is no mental health or gun solution so it's just a matter of time before he stabs or shoots people. He can't support himself at all.

Sad the officers had to witness the suspect killing the mother that has to be traumatic. A real PTSD event. Cops have to walk a fine line shoot don’t shoot, they seem to wait an extra second these days.
Families who have mentally ill within the household should not have firearms inside. Maybe the parents had one.
This sheriff did a great job. At least he tells the facts as they know them now. Instead of authorities sugarcoating press conferences .

@@sunnyday7457the root of the problem is mental health here and addressing that issue with mental hospitals is the answer, quit blaming the gun or your so called ‘culture’. It’s not wrong wanting or having protection, what’s wrong is not addressing the real issues of mental health and act as if the average citizen is supposed to be experts in family with mental health issues and forced to live with it. This includes those living in the streets, where’s the compassion for them… they need institutions to help them as well.

Guns are like cars, they're your right to own, but both come with lots of responsibility and risks. I could just as easily use your argument on guns for cars. Seeing lots of idiots speeding on the roads, whether for fun or from the police is a danger and also people who road-rage, using their cars as a weapon, is a threat to our society. What's so crazy and shouldn't be possible is the fact that you can acquire a car on the streets so easily, just ask the Kia Boys! You have specific laws to follow. I would love it if guns were treated the same way. All registered, all insured. And in addition, laws in place to prevent felons and mentally ill from owning them. Cars were not built for killing. Guns are built for killing. I am a gun owner but I believe gun nuts like you are not thinking responsibly. There is a toxic gun culture in this country. It is a problem not easily solved, and certainly not solved by people with your attitude.

I have a nephew also with TBI from being mugged by a group. He becomes argumentative because the TBI can make him impatient or want something that's not good for him. His parents intervene to keep him on the right track. He can become sullen and pout, retreating to watching TV or going to his room, but he has never become violent. He is a well-built and strong adult but no one is scared of him. It is vitally important that someone connect this woman with a support group specific to TBI - please. Members of the group will be able to put her in touch with therapists and other support where she can learn what brain functions his TBI has impaired and how to deal with it. If one of her close neighbors with whom she is friends can go with her to meet with the group or a specially trained resource, perhaps they can detail the woman's situation and stress that because of her age it is important that a specialized residential place be found for her son. There is no need to go scaring her neighbors into moving away. Please try to help both of them instead of ganging up on the son.
