I wish i was 21 again. What a an unbelievable future Newcastle United have in front of them. Patience is the name of the game. When we reach the top the whole world will know who Newcastle United are. I cannot wait.
Coming up Eddie from Lincolnshire for the Sela Cup, would love to bump into you and say Hello, absolutely love the content and your love for the area is infectious. Keep it up and hopefully catch you soon 👍
My suspicion here is as well as expanding Gallowgate end you can make an entire precinct, then sell naming rights for precinct while keeping football stadium as St James Park
Great video Eddie I visited the Riyadh Boulevard when I visited Saudi Arabia last year. It was amazing so just to think we could have something similar would be out of this World
Afternoon Eddy 👋 A bit behind so I'm on catch up mode here! Very interesting proposition by Sela. It will happen I'm sure of that.......the finished article will take NUFC and this part of the city way way into the 21st century.....its coming up! and its going to be spectacular !👌
Eddie. Great work - excellent video - maybe send it to Sela folks - in case they haven't thought through some things you present. Some great ideas there!
Aye, a bit hasty there 😅 The temporary Fanzone facility. Stack on steroids for all year round entertainment. Many aspects of what I said was correct 👊🏻
I'm 58 and for my sins, supported this wonderful crazy football Club since I was six. 52 years. It's all very very exciting. No expense will be spared with Sela only interested in providing top quality services and entertainment. Fantastic time to be a Newcastle fan. Wish I had more time but I'm gonna enjoy this fantastic ride.
Me and my mates have said for a few years that something like this could be done with the land. Somewhere for fans to go before and after the games to generate extra revenue for the club, as well as somewhere for use all year round by other groups of people for entertainment, etc
Eddie as a fair enthusiast also as a newcastle fan a ferris wheel in our ground would be good! Sela operate rides in saudi arabia but are provided by The Mellors Group from Nottingham so if we were to see one Mellors group would more than likley purchase the wheel
That’s all very well Eddie but the average fan and families will be priced out of it. Akin to the Xmas Markets that hit every city centre each year it’ll be 7 and a half quid for a pint or hot dog. I’ll stick to the Percy and Strawberry pre / post match
You’re not wrong about the spiralling costs mate. That’s the capitalist system we all sign up for and which we benefit from. Ask a homeless person what they think… There’s no reason why our traditional establishments can’t co-exist with the new. I love our traditional pubs 👊🏻
I wonder if it would feasible, from an engineering perspective to build a second tier to gallogate, but have its base in the fan zone and supported from there? Arc over the road? No issues with extra weight on the metro station. Road would even likely remain open. Maybe a load of nonsense idea but fanzone leading into a new free standing second tier. Thanks Eddie again.
Hehehe,.......that's funny Eddie!! Your commentary "Stacks" up for me. Like you I believe the fan zone is going to be spectacular,....stella, or do I mean Sela!! I am curious about the timing of this development happening, Sela will want it underway sooner rather than later, but isn't it dependent upon the plans for the Gallowgate development, which in itself is dependent upon plans for the East stand. I suspect the full plan for St James Park and Strawberry place will be released soon,.....which is very exciting. I'm looking forward to being at St James August 6th for the Sela event,....I think this is going to be special. PennyXxx
Hi Pennie, I’m keeping some things under my hat re expansion for the time being, suffice to say, don’t expect any movement anytime soon. In regards to the fanzone, this may or may not be ready for next season and of course No Application for planning has been submitted yet. The PIF and Sela are in this for the long haul 🤛🏻👍🏻
I would love to see something as ambitious as The Botanical Gardens, Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. Something with outdoor areas that are covered from the rain and usable all year, sort of a massive glass/Perspex cover.
If you see the Man City stadium expansion, they will have a new fan zone of their own with a new events building next to the next stand, i would take inspiration for that. The club need to do a fan zone and a Gallowgate expansion. Maybe not at the same time but in the same master plan.
Eddie - do you think the Gallowgate extension will form part of the Sela city zone and be developed all as one project ? If you look at what Man City are doing with their new stand if might give us a feel of what’s to come - they have ambitious Middle East owners who think along similar lines ?
I’ve seen the Etihad plans and they look amazing. They’re however lucky not to have a public road directly behind it, or a metro station and tunnel. Before the Sela announcement, I was convinced of a huge cantilevered extension to the Gallowgate. Now that in know of the Sela plans, I’m not convinced there will be a Gallowgate extension. I’m definitely certain there won’t be an extension and Sela Fanzone built at the same time. For example, an 8K expansion will cost around £400-500m to build and will only generate around £10m per year revenue. Yankuba Minteh cost £6m. I fear our owners may see a year round Sela City Zone and increased corporate areas as the best way to increase revenue. I’m convinced of an East Stand rebuild and the PIF purchasing of Leazes Tce to convert it into a money making hotel. If you watch anything talking about the East Stand covering Leazes Tce, they’re ill informed and haven’t researched anything Hope this helps 👍🏻
Looks good Eddie i only have concerns about its effects on the city centre. It will obviously have an impact on pubs, restaurants etc. If it kills trade and those establishments shut down it may change Newcastles forever.
Aye, that could have an effect but that’s how capitalism has always worked. I don’t want to see any old establishment suffer. If fans want the club to increase revenue to compete, there are going to be some winners and losers unfortunately
That’s all really interesting mate. It’s about time something was done with that land. It is canny embarrassing for the city and any visitors to St James etc. Selma Fanzone sounds mint. One thing though I bet the owners of the Gate wont be happy.
It could impact on a few businesses unfortunately but this is clearly a very efficient way of raising commercial revenue. Glad you enjoyed it Martin 👍🏻
Eddie, not quite nufc related, but would you consider doing an update on the Whey Aye Wheel planned for the quayside. Seems to have gone quiet. Keep up the great content.
hi Chris, I’m interested in these things from a personal perspective but I’m not convinced it would generate enough views to make it worthwhile. My viewers are just hungry for NUFC news 😃
The future has all of us Toon fans excited Eddie....but after watching it I was no wiser to what I'm expecting. "It could be a....." "It could be a....." And you used the wrong phrase saying "People will be spending their hard earned WONGA". I will be initially happy if it is something like the Bundesliga Fan Zones....yes food, drink, entertainment . But also players come out well beforehand to greet fans on occasions..... But like yourself I agree the future is bright...👍👍
You must have skipped through mate as I described Selas vision for a world class area and what you should expect. It’s not just a Fanzone but an area of hospitality, tourism and entertainment all year round, everyday. I know this as the club have told us the vision, but also having spoken to someone privy to information. I know about the structure over the Metro but no other details on infrastructure, other than it’s scale and grandeur. There’s just no pleasing some 😅
If a state of the art world class fan zone is coming to Strawberry place then is that not saying a ground expansion is inevitable rather than a move ! Seems a bit daft having a fan zone in one part of the city and a new ground in another. 🤔
Exactly Lawrence. The owners are investing heavily in St James’ Park real estate and infrastructure. They’ve also pledged we’re not moving. It’s far too expensive to move. Plus under new FA Laws, owners must now consult fans on stadium relocation. We’re staying 👍🏻🤛🏻
I personally understand that it needs to be moved as it’s occupying prime real estate land that the club can make money from. BUT it needs to be displayed in a public realm more suited to a redesign of the area 👍🏻
I expect large scale high rise apartments for short term rental to be part of the Sela development in years to come. I fully expect Sela to play a major part in the area for decades

Spurs is only 62K capacity. It’s just an estimate buddy for an imaginary new stadium that will never be built. The main point is some fans are grossly overestimating our relationship within the PIF and their financial goals and motivations. In addition, our owners have pledged to stay, they’re now investing significant revenue into the St James’ infrastructure and surrounding land, and even if they wanted to move, it’s not up to them. New FA laws require club owners to consult with fans over heritage assets and stadium relocations. You can take your pick out of all of these, but we ain’t moving, thankfully
