- Welcome to our modern homestead in Alaska! In this video, we tackle the harsh winter elements as we finish installing a heat surround around our trusty Blaze King stove in our basement. But that's not all - we also take advantage of the snowy weather by smoking a delicious pork butt on our Pit Barrel smoker!
With 9 inches of fresh powder blanketing our surroundings, we embrace the winter wonderland and make the most out of it. We show you the entire process of smoking the pork butt, from seasoning it to slow-cooking it to tender perfection. The aroma of the smoked meat fills the air, creating an irresistible anticipation for the flavor-packed pulled pork tacos we'll be enjoying later.
But it's not all work and no play! We take a break from our tasks and let our furry companions, they have a blast in the new snow. Their playful antics and pure joy and enough to warm our hearts despite the subzero temperatures.

Since you had to add seasoning after pulling apart the pork butt, then we know the seasoning loses flavor during cooking. So we shouldn't add seasoning until the end of the cooking process. 12:44
Yes and no. You can add a bit more if you like or don’t if you don’t. It’s truly up to the cook.

Ahhhh Kodie Ann you never follow to a T! It’s a cross between cilantro and a Serrano and it’s a made up thing
It’s perfectly normal to grill or use the smoker outside! My son, who lives in Fairbanks insisted on barbecuing steaks out on the grill while I was there two weeks ago. I swear it was the best tasting steak I ever had in my life.! your videos are beautiful you make Alaska look just gorgeous the snow I know was very deep but it’s absolutely beautiful. I miss the snow.

What!!! It’s wild we drive 1/2 to Wasilla and are like where is the snow!
Last year this time we had three feet of snow left from a couple of storms. We lived in Petersburg when we first got up here, it’s part of the Artic rainforest. Winter was much warmer to the point of being balmy. Alaska is very diverse.

Yes I did know that those of Jewish faith and those who follow the laws of the Old Testament don’t eat pork, you can sub it out for a beef roast if you like. God bless have a great week

Yes it says that in the old testament, but Jesus said in Mark 7:17-19, it's not what goes in you that defiles you, for the food goes in the body processes it and it comes out. It's what comes out of you mouth and heart that defiles you. But I respect if you don't eat pork. That is your right and your belief. Stay true to yourself.

I love it. I love all things metal. Hubby was also a welder fabricator for over forty years, now he just welds for us. I just think the wall looks awesome, great job🇨🇦🌷

I was looking at the polar vortex and hate to see it will be dipping in 9-10 days back to cold temps but only for 4-5 days and praying no more sub temps for the season. I often wonder when i watch Alaskan videos why nobody builds sheds for their machinery. Is there a reason? I wouldn't think it's very good for machinery to be covered in snow for months at a time but i have no idea so I'm genuinely curious 😊
Good question, for us it was so much rain we couldn’t get the concrete poured in time to build a shop, but that’s the goal. You only have about 3 months to get the outside stuff done and it takes years for some of the folks up here.

Looks a little dark with the colors chosen, but does look nice.
It’s lack of lightning. We only had 3 lights installed because we didn’t know how we wanted it laid out. But when they do all the electrical in the basement it will be amazing. With white ceilings and light color walls. It will come together. I could see how you could feel that way though the video simply does not do it justice in the low light.
