Hi guys! Loving the videos. I make pork patties and serve with mashed potatoes and gravy. I season them with like a poultry seasoning. Mix in a few bread crumbs, onions, celery, garlic and bake or pan fry.
Love it so yummy
It is so great that Aaron is in the videos so much more. Especially showing the process of all of the projects you guys are doing on your lovely homestead. Love the tossing liquid into the frozen air!! Potato pancakes are always a good addition to a meal. The work in the basement is looking so good! Great job you guys! God bless you all!
Thank you so much it’s crazy cold right now. Perfect time for inside projects
Any chance we can get videos is a higher quality? Previously your videos were nice and clear in 1080p but lately all we’re getting is 360p. Thanks!
Well first off it’s the same GoPro and a new GoPro 12 that record higher quality then RUclips can stream, I’m working with some tech guys and it’s not showing what you are saying. So based on the fact RUclips changes things based on the viewers conditions this is the feed back I’m getting. ruclips.net/video/hZulbl4ht4k/видео.htmlsi=CmFbjjpMuSnc54ns
So let me keep working to see what could of possible changed to make it go down on the end of the person streaming it
We are narrowing it down to a setting. I do appreciate the info
Ok I need to save it in 1080p it’s on my end! Moving forward I fixed it because it’s recorded in 5k
Thank you honestly so so many messages! I didn’t even know what 1080 was until today!
I won't even build an Ikea bookcase with my husband, let alone an entire house!!! I love the relationship you and Aaron have...it's so sweet. Thank you for bringing us along for the ride!
Oh lol the power of edit! But also this is not our first go round. But lots of I need to walk away and try this with you later. Lol 😂 but you are so sweet.
@@modernhomesteadalaska normal couple , 😏
That maybe why they have the camera rolling to keep each other on there best behavior, or they may have done much editing.😁 just kidding. I could almost smell the wood at they was cutting it, remembering my Dad remodel a old home we lived in.
@@deeregirl7356 you are cracking me up! Yes and yes! lol keep it rolling and edit! But we also have built so much together if we fight each step we wouldn’t make it to far. But we are strong personality’s so it comes out sometimes for sure
Congratulations on growth of your channel! Like the mantel. Our woodstove has a fan like yours, it's 16-18 yrs old, the fan gave out this yr. Since they don't make the model anymore it was near impossible to replace it. In case you run into same situation, we got one from Grainger at tune of 175.00 and they only had 2 in stock. 😊
Oh my goodness that crazy that they both lasted that long! They don’t build to many things to last these days
THEE best video yet!! You two work together like a well oiled machine! Aaron takes the guess work out of perfection. Plus he has to be inspired by your praise and cheerleading! Don’t you just love when a project comes together?! I love the mantle, also I have a sneaking suspicion that this end of the basement is just the start of projects to come there!
The sausage sounds good and the entire breakfast was sensational.
Until our next visit …. Rethink lifting such heavy objects!!
Much love and warm hugs!

Ahhh thank you big hugs my dear friend thank you for the love and support
Whoo hoo!! Nice work on that mantel 😊 team AJ killed it 🎉. I love all these cool ideas you have for this kind of installation. It's Alaska off grid art at its finest!! Take good care, my friends. Waiting with bells on for the next one!! 😊🙏💜
Thank you it does get to be beautiful. I love it! Thank you so much for cheering us onn
You two remind me of my sweet husband an I working together. It's called team work.
I love that a dream team!
I so love watching you and Aaron working on projects together. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much!
I just found your channel a few months ago and I wanted to tell you guys that I absolutely love watching y'all do the things you do together. It warms my heart. My wife passed away in 2019 and was sick several years prior to her death. Thank you for showing your lives on this RUclips. I know that people can be tuff some times. Love you guys so much.
This is so kind. I can’t thank you enough for sharing with us. God bless Larry have a beautiful day
You and Aaron seem to work so well together. How sweet
Thank you! Like any marriage it depends on the day. But we have done so many houses and projects I always thing it’s going to be boring because we just know what the other is going to do next so it’s often quiet. Then jokes and quiet again
Can't wait to see the finished project! It looks so good already. 💛
It’s honestly in my head going to be beautiful
I love the split mantle idea. I don't think I have ever seen that done before. So cool.
Thank you it was hard to figure out but it wouldn’t have been safe behind. So I thought it might be cool
Nice job. Aaron must have a lot of patience trying too make it all square and fitting properly. Not me, I have never built anything squared lol but, whatever I built is still standing. Well, I'm pretty sure it is, lol. It will look nice once you are done. Thanks for sharing
lol it’s so bad I’m like leave a gap dude! But nope no gaps just beautiful
Everything looks great! ❤. Now I’m hungry at almost midnight 😂. Love the wood stove area!
Oh lol so good we have ate so much of the sausage
God bless you Jessica you are a fabulous woman. You are both lucky to have each other.
Thank you so very much
love all what you are doing.Jessica you got a gifted man there, great work.
Thank you so much I appreciate that
Can’t wait for part 2!
It’s going to be fantastic
I think you could have done all this stuff in super high speed, carry through with the boredom of the process. We all know how to do drywall…just do it and then show the end result. Tackle the project in the early months when the weather is good…don’t wait for sub zero weather to get creative/supportive. Sad.
Thank you for the input! Always looking to improve. However it takes time to build 4,300 sqft homestead yourself so project can get pushed to less operational times. But that’s ok got it done no one froze no issues and it’s beautiful and functioning fantastic
Wow, you two work so great together and always GET IT DONE! Beautiful job! ❤ Stay warm!
Thank you so much trying to stay in it’s so cold out
You 2 sure do work well together. And it looks fantastic .
Thank you so much

This was so fun. I've decided everyone needs an Aaron. Ty Jessica. Love the liquid freeze...... crazy.
lol he is a handy one I’ll tell you what.

We have built several houses or rebuilt I should say together we learned to work together. It wouldn’t work otherwise. We can’t afford to pay someone else
MAKE YOUR OWN BAKING POWDER UPDATE: 2 parts: cream of tar tar . 1 part baking soda. Many say to also add 1 part of corn starch to this mix as it acts as “ non clumping “ agent. It’s effective however, I’ve not done it. Good tip to remember when baking: baking soda is an alkaline property where powder will have properties of acid. What is baked with these are specific to a balance. Understanding these properties take creative baking to a new high. This is why some recipes call for different leavening procedures. Example: I have an apple cake that requires 2 & 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda but, no powder as the acid in the apple is the counter balance to the soda and BAM! Nicely raised apple cake! Hope this is helpful!
Thank you fir sharing
I'm new to your channel, few questions, do you both have paying jobs, how many kids do you have? I heard it is very expensive in Alaska. I just watched your all day shopping, and your incredible panty❤
Ummm well Aaron has a paying job. It’s more expensive but the pay is higher, I like to say you can have the same quality of life here you have someplace else. Like if you can afford a 2 bed in lower 48 you can afford a 2 bedroom here. Also we hand built our home and it’s been a labor of our blood sweat and tears, if we had to pay someone todo what we did we couldn’t have this home.
4 kids all have significant others that spend a great deal of time at our home. So food wise I feed 6-8 people 3 times a day most days and that’s about to go up as a family member is moving in with us. And our oldest is not part of our channel. He is off at collage and lives on his own, he is 24 and an adult/child. lol
good job you two! it all looks great but that mantle... WOW it's gorgeous! ❤
Thank you it’s a neat pice of wood.
Chowhounds will survive in Alaska... i grew up in fbx...
Carry on
lol not for long! It’s super cold up there!
I’m an old gal and have been baking forever! Soon we may all need to bake our own bread! Here’s a bread making tip! Kneading the dough for 8 minutes then setting to raise for 1 hour…..then before shaping into loaf , KNEAD AGAIN for 3 or so minutes. Then shape for final rise. This will give you a much higher , fluffy and softer textured bread! Hope this is helpful.
Thank you for sharing
Great job
Appreciate that so much
Man your doing an awesome just. I love watching things being built and coming together. Looking good!!!
Thank you it’s honestly going to be so cool such a nice sitting area
I'm enjoying watching your channel. Husband moved to Alaska in 1954 so we have been through some of the things you are doing. Had a log cabin at big lake and it was 80 below. Broke every outside thermometer. Glad you do things by code you won't regret it. Great job.
I love stories like this! Thank you for sharing!
Loved watching you make the sausages. When you said if people don’t like much spice put less in, I was shaking my head. No no no put more in put more in put more in. When I was watching you fry up to two sausage patties, it made me smile. I had a memory of my great grandmother, watching me fry something up once. She asked me for the spatula and then hit me in the arse with it. She told me you never pressed down on meat or fish while cooking it. When I asked her why she says you’re pushing all the juice out of it helping to dry it out. I have start making my own food in the last several years, including my own sausages, and I have been learning from lots of other different cultures, and how our sausages are so much different. I would like to give you a tip that Irish and British sausage makers do. We add breadcrumb or Rusk to our sausage blends. This works as a great binding agent, and stops the sausages from being too crumbly, without having to seriously compress them like some Italian and Portuguese sausages. It allows it to be loose without it all falling out of the sausage skin. Now in using the breadcrumb and rust, you would use more liquid, but this has a benefit, the overall impact from this to keep the sausage, more moist and flavorful. I made some sausages in the past and failed epically as they were very dry. The flavour was OK but the texture and dryness of it wasn’t good so I’ve had some epic fails. Sausage is definitely a skill and an art that I think the majority of people just don’t understand or appreciate you won’t know it is when you try to do your own.. remember never ever ever press your meat you’re making my great grandmother turnover in her grave lol
lol I did press them down! lol love the family stories!
You guys are team work how you do all the things you do Amaze me and many others., I Wish I would have had a Husband like Aaron., he knows how to do so much & a Wife like you make it all Good, it’s Just to Cold 🥶 for me Personally 2-5-2024👍🏽👍🏽❤️

Sure enjoying your videos! ❤
You are both amazing. I was going to ask you if you had a chance to visit Margaret on Lazy Mountain? She has a wonderful store with homesteading and natural foods in mind. I love going there.
What no I’m in though!
that really nice DeWalt nail gun he haves I have same nail gun. I love battery power tools I probably never buy power cord tool again.
Agree it’s we got that to build the barn we have non power at the barn
Busy beavers you are. Great job. Whatcha putting up on the Mantel ? It will be great for the cord of wood to be rangled into that corner. Nice to see Aaron and you working together. There's a lot to be learned by Aaron
So much better to have it all stacked up thank you my friend
I understand doing everything by Code. As a Civ Engineer building my own home I would rather do it the right way so I can sleep very well at night. Integrity is important.
Couldn’t agree more. Well my husband is the same. But he only does engineered work so it’s a totally different mind set
I think the young men need to go to there to find a wife if there close to you being outstanding skills
😊😊😊Really ❤
That’s so kind!
Saying that he goes by code, then shouldn't the fire wall of been installed prior to using the wood stove? Wouldn't it of made more sense to do all this in the summer prior to winter so that you were ready for the cold weather?
Ummm well it was upto code for the fact we had the clearance from combustibles, the code we could have skipped was to tape and mud…… we were never out of code. (Homes was inspected by both bank and insurance to close on it with the stove how it started out) But when you add things IE dry wall in this case, the things you add have a different code. Learn something new every day.
As far as summer wouldn’t that be a dream to have the time to get everything done from building outside, animals, garden preserving and being able to finish a 4,300 sq ft home in 3 months while working full time. Yeah it would have been so nice! Like sooo soo sooo nice!
Guys, I really enjoyed watching you from Yemen.
Wow hello! So happy you are here
I can tell you are really putting in the effort to improve your video quality. Keep it up 👏
Thank you I’m just sad that what I have been seeing other have not but that’s now fixed! Well I say it’s fixed but haven’t done it yet. I’m praying it is fixed
Are you going to finish the rest of the walls in the basement?
Yes we need todo walls and rooms and electrical so on first then drywall
So great watching you two work together on projects

It’s brutal cold right now. I’m lucky so close to the ocean it does not get that cold. But it’s bad for us
Congratulations on 20,000. Your projects are always functional and beautiful. You two are so talented. (Have you changed your camera? All the videos posted since January look like I’m viewing through a porthole. All the other channels I watch are just fine and it’s the same across all my devices.)
I explained it in a community post.
@@modernhomesteadalaska just saw that, thank you.
I can only watch you guys at 360p. That takes me back to th '80's Poor quality TV resolution. Are you ale to record in 720p + ?? I love the content.
Yes I just posted that! Until today no one could tell me what they were seeing so I didn’t know the videos were saving in lower quality. When ironically it’s been recorded in 5k and I’m watching it it’s beautiful! So today thanks to help from viewers and some tech guys I have figured out how to reset the computer and save in 1080 moving forward. Unfortunately I’m screwed on what’s already been posted! It’s been quite a hard pill to swallow today!
@@modernhomesteadalaska No Problem. I look forward to future HD vids. Thanks.
Good job guys nicely done since moving into North America. I’ve even seen some people in construction who didn’t do as good job. I am a bricklayer by trade, so I don’t do much in the way of plastering work. But I find it strange the way you guys put up drywall, what we back home would call plasterboard. You speckle and tape it or I believe you called it muddying. That’s something we would not do back in Ireland or the UK. Like you between the framing, we may have a spray foam insulation, or sometimes just a type of fireproof insulation. If the people have money, there is a type of fireproof insulation that looks a little like egg curtains, which works as an insulation, but also a soundproof. After the plasterboard is up, we would not tape it and mud it. The plasterers would come in, and they would put a skim coat of plaster, which would be between three and five mil thick.. this gives an absolute stunning finish to the walls. They are smooth as a baby bum. Another good thing about skim coating. You don’t have to do all that annoying sanding either. Put the benefits of a skim coat. It helps add strength to the wall fills in all the gaps and makes it immensely smooth gives soundproofing and more durability to your wall and you’re not to see cracking either which can sometimes occur when it’s just plasterboard shows up on your painting finish. Now, of course, it’s not necessary to skimcoat your plasterboard it isn’t, but it does give a superior finish to your wall. What can I say in England and Ireland? We like to try and build our homes to last multiple generations. My uncle Pudges cottage is oldest home in our family it’s over 600 years old and still an amazing home. I once had a Canadian ask me what I know about building trying to tease me because I’m Irish. We were standing on the scaffold and a couple of the other Canadian lads were laughing. He wasn’t ready for my response. I pointed out how they were living in wigwam while we were living in castles, and that everything Canadians know about building came from us Europeans otherwise they be still living in a field. He didn’t like that very much. I was tired as a child though you don’t do dish it out if you’re not willing to take it. Hope you don’t mind me pointing out the differences in the building styles.
I love it! Any plaster would work I understand it as the issue is the fire going between the gaps that’s why one would plaster or tape and mud.
I love the stories! Your family homes is older than my country! When we went to India and visited castles that were made out of stone 600 plus years old! It was truly eye opening. Here in the lower 48 to live in a 100 year old home is a big deal! lol what a joke that is! In Alaska I don’t think we even have any homes 100 years old!
@@modernhomesteadalaska yeah I know it's not till I came to North America that I really started to appreciate my heritage and history it made me realize how old my culture really is. Now I'm more of a Mason and bricklayer than a plaster but a friend of mine was a plaster. There are many different types of plasters for different situations. The one we used to put on the plasterboard or or drywall we used to refer to it as skim coat. I believe the correct name for it is thistle plaster, but you can also use carlite plaster. Now the thistle plaster dries up quickly so you have to be quick and accurate in its application. The carlite takes longer to dry out but it gives you more working time. Not a plaster so my knowledge is limited Hope this helps.
