Hey guys, many of you may not believe me but I actually helped Toyota design a feature on this truck, in 2017 I visited the Atlanta international auto show and they had a consept of this truck; and they asked me what is a way we can improve our cars? And I said well there is one thing I know there is one thing on the Tacoma that needed to be addressed, the front grill.. on the consept it was a fixed unit that raised with the hood, and I knew that in previous models when the hood slams the plastic hood cracks, worse still it’s very difficult to replace at how the hooked it up, so I said due to the size of the front, why not fixate the grill in place but then make it to where it is interchangeable and hold it plane with tether clamps and bolts, even better have the hoods customizable with different designs, for different trims e.g base is all plastic, mid is crome edge and black plastic, and limited is all chrome! Then others people listening said also throw in the old Toyota badge for retro look, I also demonstrated visually how the grill would come off, the TRD team in Atlanta loved it! And they immediately started to draw consepts in paper, no joke! I gave this idea to them!
Great review Kyle as always. It amazes me how well these Tacoma's hold their value. Did you ever price a good used Tacoma Off Road or Sport model …….wow are they pricey.
Thanks, Kyle! As it happens, my dad is looking at buying one of these in the near future. I just sent him the link to this video so he can be better informed in his decision!
discs are not as good for trucks as you think, like the person above me said. when you go offroading, and dirt/water gets in your discs, you need a backup.
Amen. And both brakes are susceptible to debris entering. Discs are better. You ever see mud trucks running 2 ton axels with differential drum brakes? Toyota doesn't put discs in the rear because they have a cult following for tacos. Jeep and apple are a couple of other good examples of companies selling products that regardless of the specs they know their fan base will buy. The product is iconic.
You guys couldn't be any more wrong about dirt. Drum brakes hold in mud, dirt, and water. Ever taken apart a drum brake and you would see that. Tons of brake dust and dirt sits in the bottom of the drum.
Wow, RUclips has really moved on from this channel. View counts are about ten times less than expected for subscriber count. Just too much good car content out there I guess.
That's what I was thinking exactly. Kyle started all the car reviews back in 2009-11 but there are just too ppl doing car reviews nowadays. Ppl moved on and the views showed forsure
I'm a domestic truck guy, mainly Dodge Rams and Dakotas ( I know it's just Ram now but after 3 generations that's not gonna change) but I do have a respect for the Toyota Tacoma and its off road capability and how it continues to hold onto the midsize truck segment.
Well..my 2013 Tacoma has 122000 kms on it and has never left me stranded yet....Toyota quality is nuts to insane...so very dependable. Good review on the truck.
Only seeing this truck on video only. None of these trd pro off road on the market for sale . I really want to buy one of toyota Tacoma TRD pro off road , but wait for three years never see one in toyota dealership. Maybe will wait for the Ford range raptor to come out and buy one.
Great video! However is it me or does the chime it makes when door is open/no seatbelt sound like when you press the button to open/close the trunk on a new Durango?
They last and work but my God things just havnt changed I'd like to see a major overhaul and they should compete with interior and other functional components to charge 40+k
Drums in the rear for off reading the disc brakes used to get chowdered when rocks got stuck, or so they claim. Disc brake conversion available works good
Brayden Bachlott Actually it’s the other way around. The 4Runner was built off the Toyota truck platform. Began as a pickup with a removable shell. So a 4Runner is actually a Tacoma with a topper.
With me knowing your history, this truck would look great sitting on your new property once finished, just saying, haha! Hope you have a great weekend bud!
I've been watching your reviews for quite a while & must say, you're the best on RUclips, bar none! Motormouth is my 2nd favorite! Keep up the excellent reviews!!
Toyota really screwed up the powertrain with this generation Tacoma. The transmission is tuned as if it were paired to a Prius, and the new V6 can’t match the power delivery and overall sound of the 4.0 in the old truck (even if the mpg is better). If it were me, I’d save $$$ and buy a certified pre owned Tacoma from 2012-15. To me? It’s just a better overall truck.
thecarelectronicguy Honestly, the new 3.5L V6 that puts out 301 horsepower and 267 ft-lbs of torque combined with all-new the 8-speed auto (currently found on the all-new Camry and the all-new Avalon) would really help out the new Tacoma's performance a lot. With the addition of disc brakes too to make it more modern in advance.
Excellent review! You hit on the all important aspects of this vehicle. As much as I love TRD PRO, I'm glad that I went with '17 TRD OFF-ROAD with premium package instead. I just couldn't justify its asking price. My OR's MSRP was almost $42K whereas PRO's was $47K. I personally didn't see $5K difference between OR and PRO. At most it's only $2K difference.
Daniel Sobirov only difference is in suspension and you could probably do that on your own. Oh and tires too but again can replace for more aggressive tires on your own
Firstname Lastname tires are actually the same. I also have Goodyear Kevlar reinforced tires. The only difference is the size. Pro has 17" and OR has 16". For off-roading 16" is better.
I'm interesting in getting the SR5, long bed, and repainting it this color. I wanted the TRD, but it only comes o m short bed and 4x4, I am not a fan of either. Anyone else done this to a new vehicle?
There are two TRD models. The TRD Off Road and TRD PRO. The TRD Offroad does have the option of the Access Cab with 6ft bed, but it still only has 4WD. The black TRD "TOYOTA" grill you can buy one online and put it in an SR5 by the way.

The reason is because a friend of mine had to replace the grill 4 times on his truck, error is the cause of invention
I doubt all of this
You should've told them to split the grille, because it's very hard to close softly. I own a 2018 TRD OffRoad
Stubaru why split it?
@@Underappreciatedclassics If you dont let go of the hood like a hot potato, you will crush your fingers.
I love that color
MostlyIrishCarGuy was just about to put that! Hope its available on the tundra!
It is honestly my favorite color on any vehicle ever made!! And that’s saying something.
anotherrandomtexan25 idk I think it'd look kinda strange on a tundra but this pulls it off perfectly
I do too.
What a nice color !!!!
Great review Kyle as always. It amazes me how well these Tacoma's hold their value. Did you ever price a good used Tacoma Off Road or Sport model …….wow are they pricey.
Were's The Next 240sx Video ? It's Been So Long.
Weird how I never get notification of an upload Kyle. Just stumble on these anymore.
That's how YT is selectively promoting channels of their choice. Hit notification bell each time "might" get you more notices.
Fantastic review as usual...
That Tacoma is one good truck! Perfect for off roading and everyday use.
Good job! Keep it up.
Yes i love this truck and i love your Reviews than you for doing this truck
Thanks, Kyle! As it happens, my dad is looking at buying one of these in the near future. I just sent him the link to this video so he can be better informed in his decision!
That color really suits the car well. That and the light beige color.
This is my absolutely favorite car. Thanks for reviewing this car.
Electrical experiments - *truck
FarhantheMovieGuy Productions yeah its a truck
Awesome review! Amazing pickup truck!
Great Video Kyle, I was beginning to think you were either ill or RUclips had toyed with the channel? :)
I watch your videos from iraq and i love you ♥️
Really love your work you should do the 2018 F-250 with the Powerstroke
Nice as always, but you forget the payload of the Tacoma TRD Pro !!
Greetings from Romania :) !!
I like how your reviews today are half the length they were 3 years ago but still just as informative.
Keep it up Kyle!
Id Have The Tacoma TRD Pro Over The Nissan Frontier Noob4x Any Day!
My favorite Pickup truck from Toyota. Expensive for repair or not? And beautiful darkblue color of the body.
Hy bro a long time i need this video
$43k for a vehicle that comes with rear drum brakes LOL. Doesn't matter if they work. For a vehicle that price discs need to be standard.
CJBMAGGOT94 Toyota says it’s for off-roading so mud and sand don’t get into the rear brakes. It makes sure you have at least a pair of brakes
discs are not as good for trucks as you think, like the person above me said. when you go offroading, and dirt/water gets in your discs, you need a backup.
Amen. And both brakes are susceptible to debris entering. Discs are better. You ever see mud trucks running 2 ton axels with differential drum brakes? You guys couldn't be any more wrong about dirt. Drum brakes hold in mud, dirt, and water. Ever taken apart a drum brake and you would see that. Tons of brake dust and dirt sits in the bottom of the drum.
You realize the front does most of the braking right? So it wouldn’t make any difference
Wow, RUclips has really moved on from this channel. View counts are about ten times less than expected for subscriber count. Just too much good car content out there I guess.

Scotty Kilmer would approve with this Tacoma 👍
I'm a domestic truck guy, mainly Dodge Rams and Dakotas ( I know it's just Ram now but after 3 generations that's not gonna change) but I do have a respect for the Toyota Tacoma and its off road capability and how it continues to hold onto the midsize truck segment.
And not to mention that a Tacoma will outlast any domestic truck at least 2x over.
OK truck but it looks like they took a Toyota truck from the 80's and put it on estrogen treatment
I saw your Saab 900 review and you said the radio can pick up weather radio channels? Cool!! Is that available on new cars and aftermarket radios?
Sonic the hedgehog movie bought me here of the car
Nice truck
….seems like a very sparse gage PANEL...;;--(,,,,,,,,,,,
They charge you $2000 more if you want an automatic? That's clever thinking Toyota.
Can this truck handle sand at high speed? Or desert running at high speed
That thing looks like a Ford Ranger
Any word on the 2019?? And is it going to change much if not I’m thinking about purchasing this within the month. NICE VID!!
Do the Tundra next
wait... I thought the TRD Pro didn't come with push button start? does it?
Well..my 2013 Tacoma has 122000 kms on it and has never left me stranded yet....Toyota quality is nuts to insane...so very dependable. Good review on the truck.
If that truck was from Auto Nation Mall of Georgia, I work for one of their biggest competing Toyota dealerships in Georgia.
Blue is soo Good. This Reminds me of JerryRigEverything. Also i saw an Old Tacoma here in the philippines which is a 2 door.
Is it true the manual does not have a push button start ?
Only seeing this truck on video only. None of these trd pro off road on the market for sale . I really want to buy one of toyota Tacoma TRD pro off road , but wait for three years never see one in toyota dealership. Maybe will wait for the Ford range raptor to come out and buy one.
go online. you'll find plenty

I love this truck!! Only thing about it is....the price. It's expensive.
Great video! However is it me or does the chime it makes when door is open/no seatbelt sound like when you press the button to open/close the trunk on a new Durango?
Super cool videos man!
Kyle, please do an in depth review on the new Volkswagen Touareg R-Line Tech! That would be awesome! :)
They last and work but my God things just havnt changed I'd like to see a major overhaul and they should compete with interior and other functional components to charge 40+k
Drums in the rear for off reading the disc brakes used to get chowdered when rocks got stuck, or so they claim. Disc brake conversion available works good
Very capable, truck :)

What is the top speed of this tacoma?!
@Saabkyle04
Please do startup, review, and test-drive 2018 Mahindra Roxor Jeep. Thanx
I want that to be my first truck
The cement gray color is nice
My grandpa has a trd sport
Where has the Tacoma with red paint been recorded? Doesn't look like CONUS. But I could be wrong.
Pretty much the 4-Runner if it was a pickup.
Brayden Bachlott Actually it’s the other way around. The 4Runner was built off the Toyota truck platform. Began as a pickup with a removable shell. So a 4Runner is actually a Tacoma with a topper.
So now that you have driven the Tacoma which one do you like better ZR2 or Tacoma TRD Pro?
I know their reasons but I disagree with toyota about not giving the the Tacoma a more powerful engine
With me knowing your history, this truck would look great sitting on your new property once finished, just saying, haha! Hope you have a great weekend bud!
Wowww views are going down , but this is STILL GREAT CONTENT !
My dream truck & color with this 😍😍😍😍😍😍
My future truck right there course not The Pro trim The Limited trim on the SR5 trim
I've been watching your reviews for quite a while & must say, you're the best on RUclips, bar none! Motormouth is my 2nd favorite! Keep up the excellent reviews!!
Kyle! You need to try to get your hands on a Subaru Ascent!! We have a bunch at my work and they're awesome!

Wow first video of a Toyota tacoma thanks Kyle Toyota tacoma I love it bro
Why couldn't they make the LED tail lights for this
First
Armored car
If you can Kyle, you NEED to upgrade to a 4K Camera!
Hopefully it's my next truck but a 6MT and cement gray.
We own a silver 2018 TRD OffRoad. I love the truck and you nailed this review!
Stubaru Wow did I fucking expect you to be here LOL
Note, I’m Truenus.
Which pickup is better the ford ranger or the tacoma?
Shout out to the Japanese from the United States with this truck.
wtf 2018 45k truck and has drums??!!
He’s dressed like he’s gonna help a friend move.
Here in Canada, the base starts at 31 grand plus tax and delivery. This one here is closer to 50. Fml
Lambo6fo yeah and the 4runners are over 50 grand even for a base model or trd offroad
hi i subcribed and turned otifications on
Fantastic review as always!
Too much 'Vroom-Vroom" Kyle, !
I agree, no need to keep revving the engines during the review and doing repeatedly!
My friend ron close has one of these except his is a 2007
Does it come supercharged as well?
Hi Kyle I'm in North Carolina right now
Honda Ridgleline please and thanks!
I just wish they would give us the diesel like the Hilux.

man it takes long i miss you
Video Idea: Do a review video of the 2018 Maserati Levante
Sunroof in the TRD Pro yet in the U.S?
I'm interesting in getting the SR5, long bed, and repainting it this color. I wanted the TRD, but it only comes o m short bed and 4x4, I am not a fan of either. Anyone else done this to a new vehicle?

I like grey the most but this is nice too.
what bugs me is that it doesnt have a moonroof
Ford has to bring the Ranger Raptor here
Greetings from Russia 😎excellent review
i like this truck in cement gray
Dang I was hoping it was a manual
SHAZAM!
Awesome truck I need one
Well damn son! It's about time!
