How to create the ultimate mobile-powered workstation with Samsung DeX

- Samsung DeX is one of the coolest productivity features on our Galaxy mobile devices. It lets you extend your Galaxy smartphone or tablet to a larger screen, creating a desktop-like work experience.
On our latest devices, like the new Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra 5G, you can connect wirelessly to any display that supports Miracast, which includes most smart TVs. Samsung has also recently launched a Smart Monitor that supports wireless DeX. With this Smart Monitor, you can create a powerful wireless workstation and take your work-from-home productivity to the next level.
Here’s how to set up Samsung DeX on your Smart Monitor:
1. First, power on the monitor.
2. Using the remote or the controls on the monitor itself, go to the monitor’s source menu. Then choose screen mirroring.
3. On your Galaxy smartphone, pull down the Quick Panel by dragging down from the top of the screen. Tap the DeX option.
4. Select DeX on TV or monitor. Your Galaxy device will now search for available displays to connect with.
5. Once you see your Smart Monitor, tap it.
6. On your monitor, you’ll see the DeX logo appear, followed by the DeX homescreen.
7. Now, to be fully productive, you can connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse by putting your devices in pairing mode, following the instructions by the manufacturer.
8. You’re all set! With the power of Samsung DeX and the Samsung Smart Monitor you can now enjoy a full desktop-style interface wirelessly.

The idea itself is not new. Remember that Microsoft started the ball rolling with the Continuum back in 2015. Heck, Motorola even made the Atrix 4G with the optional lapdock to turn the phone into a desktop in 2011! These days, only Samsung, Huawei, LG, and Motorola would give PC desktop experience from a smartphone.
Please take desktop productivity to the next level and offer Dex for dual monitors.
If it did this I would genuinely have it replace my PC.

I still have my Windows laptop for AAA gaming and multimedia work, but me too now only use DeX when I'm travelling light. A worthy feature to have.

Love the way he presents the feature. To the point. Wondering if there is any lag while using Miracast. When I tested the miracast feature like 8 years ago, there is a lag when I am trying and moving the mouse and that doesn't feel good. Wondering how it is now a days
It still does show some latency lag if you are doing heavy intensive work.

I have been using DEX on my S9 very frequently. I really find it very useful. I have a DEX Pad, but use it often via my PC now.
On my new S21 5G 256GB it doesn't work though. Or at least: it starts up, but after a few minutes it starts giving warning notifications that the phone is overheating because of XYZ app, and it will close the app in 20 secs. It does the same after a complete factory reset.

A company needs to make a phone like this. When you plug your phone into an external monitor, Chrome OS opens up. Just think of a Google Pixel with stock Android, then stock Chrome OS when you plug it into a monitor.

I love Dex, however I wish my (non-samsung) dock had a headphone jack in addition to usb ports.
It's really cool and been using it a caldigit usb c dock. Annoyingly though it won't let me select my Z fold 2 for audio playback.

Does the monitor have to connected to wifi in order to use wireless Dex? I plan on bringing it to an office that does not have wifi.

the downside of the Wireless is the latency and 30hz ..you can't be that productive with that

Yes, wireless DeX works on the S20, Note20, Tab S7 and many other previous generation devices. Make sure you have accepted the latest OS updates.
This has been a feature since at least the S9
Dex works since S8 in all S and Note lines, except a few called lite. also works in some newer tablets

Need this with a wireless charging pad that automatically starts Dex when placed on it.... come on guys, we need to lay the phone on a pad and Dex just starts 100% easy and wirelessly.

Is samsung dex going to ever work on note 10 lite? I know that the usb on this device can't push hdmi signal, but still it can handle the wireless version no problem.
No, the Note10 Lite doesn't have native DeX support.
Using dex through my smart TV can I plug in a USB lable printer in the TV USB port and print using dex?
No. Connect your printer wirelessly to your phone and then you would be able to use the printer.........

Still using it from my Lumia 950. It really is hard to believe that Microsoft got the idea right at the first attempt.
I bought and returned the smart tv 27 inches. I tried the wireless dex mode, but it was super slow. Not worth the money.
Dex is definitely better with wired connection there is no lag, runs smoother than windows on pc. Wireless usually lags, but varies a lot depending on the device you connect to i have tested on some decent to some that are almost unusable.
@@JoseLuceroRodriguez Exactly. Wireless connection always suffer from latency lag. That is why I only do wired connection unless if I only want to watch videos.

On the S21 Ultra, you can run DeX at WQHD resolution (2560x1440) on a standard aspect ratio monitor. If you have an ultra-wide monitor, you can run it at 2560x1080. Either way, it looks very crisp!

Buy a Samsung DEX station or wireless charger and just drop your phone on a wireless charger. Works for me.
Though I like the idea of DEX it hasn't been very useful to me since my Note 9 because Samsung cancelled Linux on DEX after the beta. When I plug in my phone to a big monitor and go through the trouble of hooking up a mouse, I want a desktop experience, not a 2nd rate proof of concept. Kind of reminds of the promise that Samsung notes would sync with OneNote. Seriously, what a disappointment! Don't just promise, deliver.
