The story of Shapur I, the Persian Sasanian king, and his conflicts with Rome is a remarkable one. Shapur I defeated several Roman emperors: Gordian III, who was killed in battle against him, and Philip the Arab, who was forced to sign a humiliating peace treaty. Later, he captured Emperor Valerian and turned him into his slave.
But who exactly was this extraordinary adversary of Rome, and how did he achieve such feats?

Tjough, other Sasanian kings like Shapoor II or Khosrow I were not less than Shapoor I. Could you please also the word Iran without saying "ay" at the beginning? it is actually spelled with "ee" at the beginning. Best!
