Doom Eternal came out a couple days ago and the game is a huge improvement over the 2016 iteration. The fights in general have a different pacing and the bosses feel quite a bit more unique (though i still prefer the 2016 boss-fights).
The last fight against the Icon of Sin can be extremely brutal and unforgiving. It's hard to distribute your attention and handle all of the threats around you while still trying to learn the fight/boss. I hope this video helps out the people it reaches. Thank you for watching and good luck with your fights!
Pro tips: shot at the Icon of Sin until it dies.
Yeah but you need to be quick because the longer the icon of sin is on Earth the stronger he will become
The game doesn't stress that enough
definitely helps. thanks
this is def a pro tip. the enemy spawns really do seem to get so insane after spending too much time on a stage
@@backlynx yep, focusing little enemies is a waste of time and they really spawn faster and faster.
@@mihajlocvijetic1868 IKR, Hayden should be warning us more in the game !!
It really helps when you do it fast because the longer the Icon of Sin is on Earth the stronger it becomes
The icon of sin took me about 40 mins without even failing at all. The crucible spawns definitely saved me.
same
That takes too long. Incase you didnt know, the longer the icon of sin is on earth the stronger it becomes. !!!!
brother, my first run took me so damn long. i had no clue what i was doing and the enemies were so friggen overwhelming. i spent like 40 min in the first stage simply picking up crucible and trying my best to live 😂
i sucked, it sucked
@Robotic Gaming I have no extra lives. Idk what to do lol and how do people find all these extra lives?? Most I had was 7 at any given time
TheDonofthsht76 - mission select, get a 1up, back out, get back in
"NOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST SPAM THE MINIGUN THE ENTIRE FIGHT!"
*"Hahaha gun go BRRRRRRRR"*
Gib UACbux...
Mobile Turret + Infinite Onslaught + Infinite Overdrive
And then train go BOOM
"NOOOO YOU CANT JUST USE THE CRUCIBLE AS YOUR ADVANTAGE"
"haha crucible goes swing"
in uv u can get away with that but def not nightmare
This is how long it took to the Doom Slayer to kill him in canon. What we call "ultra nightmare" he calls "waking up a 12 am at Sunday.
lol brother it makes me feel like a noob for playing on UV 😂
So this is the strategy he used to survive for years in Hell.
😂
Good one lmao
VERY IMPORTANT TIP, do it fast cause the longer the icon of sin is on earth the stronger it becomes
Can we take a moment for appreciate how well that skyscraper it's built
Yep, not even Hell's fire can burn this steel...
@@KyleNike84 wait a minute-
The longer the icon of sin is on earth, *tHE strONger hE wIlL becOMe*
I think the BFG10000 might be firing.
samuel really does harp that phrase more often than he really should
Doom slayer also become stronger more he fights.
I nearly burned out on this fight. I was just glad it was over. Less than glad even, I was just tiredly staring at the credits roll by.
Honestly bro I nearly dropped the game on ultra violence. This kinda destroyed my enjoyment.
A lot of my deaths were from the Icon punching straight into the upper floors randomly. It was so hard to predict and pretty much one shots you. I think the problem was I was not breaking armor pieces fast enough. If he gets bored he does that "punch straight" move.
You can chainsaw or glorykill enemies as he does undodgable moves like that for complete invincibility
Just beat this in nightmare on ps4. This part was something else. Mastering arenas and mastering this felt different lol
Incredible work completing on controller.
hell yeah, congrats and good work dude. yeah the pacing and arena design in this doom are pretty jarring compared to expectations. the last fight was so damn overwhelming for me to learn at first (even on UV).. i was so focused on surviving against the ridiculous amounts of enemies not realizing that they seemed to get worse the longer the stage went on
Just did the same on Xbox, man he's hard! I really want to beat ultra nightmare but it seems close to impossible at the moment.
Quti piez On a Joycon? Probably. On any other controller nowadays? Not so much. It’s not that deep when you’ve been using a controller all your life.
Quti piez i did it with a controller on the xbox
i dont know why but when i did this, there were wayyy too many mobs, i coudlnt even focus the boss
I used bfg on boss when to many mobs spawned, it cleared the map for some time
same thing with me when i first did the fight. i spent the better part of an hour just trying to stay alive. i wasn't at all able to focus on the boss or anything else. i think the enemy spawns are tied to time spent within the encounter in order to match the lore of IOS becoming stronger as he spends more time on earth. taking out IOS faster makes the fight disgustingly easier
backlynx I think you are right cause the first time I did it it lasted an hour and near the end there was a lot of cyber mancubus whiplash etc but when I came back with infinite ammo cheat to enjoy a bit more the crucible I never saw any whiplash and the spawn was I’d say 1/10 of what it was on my first time
I had five "barons of hell" behind me the whole time xD.
It took me 1 hour to beat him.
yeah for me it was 4 pain elementals at all time
We need final sin master level where all enemies are replaced by marauders
Ive never wanted to throw my controller more than when fighting that guy.
I didn’t know Satan had a RUclips account...
I see you want to watch the world burn
Just do a backwards walk and use the super shotgun. Pretty easy tbh.
I've seen one guy stunlock a marauder to death by alternating between the Super Shotgun and Ballista while firing a grenade behind him each time he's about to recover and start blocking again
Kinda weird that I sort of expected the Icon of Sin to be even bigger than this design but... Not gonna complain.
Is it because of Titan's Realm in 2016?
@@nathansales6736 probably that. The doom games made the head look towering compared to Doom Eternal. Might just be me though.
From what I heard the devs wanted him to be bigger, but it couldn't run smoothly enough so they had to make him smaller.
yeah he's till pretty badass looking but i do wish that the fight (and other boss fights in this game) were a little more along the lines of 2016 doom where the focus felt about entirely placed on the boss(es) at hand. i appreciate the newer fight pacing and designs but definitely prefer the older style since it felt more satisfying for me personally. like you though, not gonna complain 😄
The Slap Yep, this size was definitely due to technical limitations, I mean, he walks around through the level as you're playing! if we needed him to be a bit smaller so we can witness that; then so be it :)
Poor little zombie got taken out by mistake at the end there 😂
He took one for the team
@@dudeitsivan RIP Zombie man... He was so brave! 😢
heeey i'm surprised that anyone noticed this! i felt really stupid there haha :'D
woulda been much more satisfying to hit the big guy - oh well haha. thanks for taking the time to watch and comment
@@backlynx absolutely! Thank you for the video this actually helped me a ton. I was steam rolling through levels on that same difficulty (ultra violence) and got here and kind of had a basic idea of what I should do but you helped me with some things and next time I played it I smashed that boss out in about 5 minutes as well. So thank you very much and I am now a new subscriber!
backlynx I was shocked to see that your fight ended almost exactly after destroying the last part.
Mine does not, it once went on for another minute or so, enemies still spawning, Icon still attacking...
Thank you so much for including the narration skip. Excellent video, excellent strat. Cheers.
thank you a ton for taking the time to leave a positive comment on the video. the kind words are very well appreciated.. take care!
I love the way you can constantly use the crucible, you feel like the true slayer in the end
The first time I fought the Icon of Sin, my game crashed in the second phase, second time I glitched on the floor, then I beat him the third time.
Doom guy casual day at the office
Me PTSD jus playing
nah man, you're the slayer
Doomslayer has PTSD tho
@@leopaschall4580 I hope it is. Here's no man who can take it that long. I feel so sorry for him :(
This man alr made marauders the easiest thing for me
This video has the most important piece of knowledge that I haven't seen any written guide have. I haven't tried this fight again after losing a million times to it but this one bit of knowledge I think will help a ton. And that is - the battle becomes more impossible the more time passes. I was watching your video and surprised you only had to fight one heavy demon (or maybe two) at a time when I was getting crushed fighting constant waves of 5. I was like "this boss is impossible!" But seeing how much difference it made to aggressively go after the IoS it suddenly looked very doable.
Looks like it's basically, launch all weapons against IoS, find fodder to chainsaw, Crucible kill any heavy demons, launch all weapons against IoS. Repeat.
Beat him on my first try, amazing guide!
Hey bro I appreciate it. About the 12th time I attempted the fight getting killed at the last sliver of health it had I almost put the game down for a while. Thank you for dumbing it down so even a pleb like me could understand.
I wish all you people about to embark on your first Ultra Nightmare boss fight with the icon of sin very good luck and god speed.
Having just went through my 2nd playthrough under the “Can’t Perfect Perfection” milestone it feels good to see a strategy to keep in mind when I’m more properly built for it. Especially when I later do the Ultra Nightmare run.
Second phase was really a struggle for me, it was taking me 20+ mins until I watched this video and then it took me 5 mins to beat. I only needed to use the micro missiles mod which were very effective
edit: on Nightmare mode, so very proud of that
That Zombie at the end had no idea what was coming to him.
The whole tactic is BFG on large areas,Ballista on arms,Heavy Cannon up close
that strat for sure works but i tried to focus on general gameplay tips and strategies that encompass all weapons and play-styles that players may prefer/be used to. not all players will consistently land shots with the bfg, not all will be comfortable with placing ballista shots from a distance - and tons of players won't even have the heavy cannon endless missiles
@@backlynx BFG is best used on large areas like the head and body, for it being slow but very powerful. The ballista is best on mid range because of its speed .The Heavy Cannon is not as required. That's because it only gives a small amount of micro missiles. You can use any gun as long as you deal consistent damage
Big Brain You practically just repeated what he already said, a tad more detail, but still weird.
Aaaaaa can you not annoy me
Amazing.......just amazing man !
I'm also playing on UV (how many veterans happily chose this and strangely enjoyed getting their asses kicked.....until Sin ?)and watching your gameplay really helped lay down what's important and what I can afford to ignore 😎
Many thanks for your efforts dude, I'm looking forward to giving Ol' Goatsie a serving of Kick of Arse 😈
This was a big help, thank you. It seemed impossible at first!
Dude. Thanks so much for this video. On UV, this game is very challenging. But the boss was literally making me tempted to wimp out and use the sentinel armour. But I watched this whole video and started a practice turn just to run around and do the ice burn combo, which then turned into a completed run. I'm glad they let you die after you get past stage 1, because I died the first time on the 2nd part. Thanks man! Now I can do the master levels. Subbed.
Thank you, Sir. With this video I only needed about 6 minutes on Xbox One Series X.
How do you prevent hundreds of mancubi spawning? Every time i play there's five to ten mancubi spawned before i even get a shot in on the dude
NV wayyy to different from UV, it took me like 5 hours to beat the boss
it seems that the more time you spend in a stage with IOS, the more ridiculous/overwhelming the enemy spawns become. when i first tried this fight without knowing what to do.. i had no time to breathe or focus boss with the ridiculous amounts of enemies there were
this is pretty misleading. i had the same issue when i first tried the fight on UV without knowing what to do. the amounts of major enemies was wildly overwhelming and i spent the better part of an hour just running around trying to survive. I think the fight spawns more and more tougher enemies the more time that you spend in it to match the lore of IOS becoming stronger over time on earth
@@backlynx So...just like in Doom II then, you have to make sure you don’t spend too long on the arena or in the end there’ll be lot of enemies interfering your way.
I completed the game today on ultraviolence. Took me about 17 hours to complete. Got all the secrets collectibles and everything. Except the cheat codes in fortress of doom cuz i dont care for them.
Final sin i complete in 45 minutes.
That involved incessant and tireless dying and reloading of checkpoints.
Finally i made it.
Felt good.
I just finished this boss fight, thank you for the tips!!! What an epic game this was!
I have been stuck in this freaking boss fight for about a year now. Time to finally win
Did you finally beat the Icon??
@@crampedmisfit you bet I did.
@@vonkouva2619 Awesome. I was here because I recently beat him again and wanted to see other's methods of beating him. Haha
Alright, after losing many times on easy, I'm going back in...
i really hope the video helped out with your attempts! something i wanted to include (but didn't cause i wasn't really certain) was that i think the enemy spawns within the stages are based on time within the encounter as opposed to anything else.. so working quickly through the fight actually should make it a lot easier - so trying to get a really good start to the fights like the starts i had within the video should genuinely make it much easier
Dude I'm in HMP and this shit is crazy. Idk how people do it on harder difficulty
@@thedonofthsht76-58 Yeah, it's NUTS. I started my UN and Nightmare playthroughs today, like training and the real thing, and I have no idea how I'm gonna do this. In fact, I don't even really know how I'm to get past the Gladiator or any of the later levels past the couple before Urdak. From there, it'll be pure, unbridled, painful agony.
But if I do it, I'll let you know. If I remember. No doubt it's possible, but high doubt I'll do it. A quarter of it is faith, another is luck, another is skill, and the last is bullshit luck mixed with divine hope and unspeakable hatred. And I dont have much experience in arena shooters. I haven't even played a Serious Sam game before. All I really got is the new Shadow Warrior and the New Doom games. So, high chance I'm screwed, but try it yourself. You might surprise yourself.
@@TheVaultDweller-oi9ij good luck! And yea I'm replaying the game now on the UV. Got passed the first few levels no problem but the game only gets harder from here😂
@@thedonofthsht76-58 I'm in the same difficulty and just gave up. I'm sure you will beat it though your brain isn't like mine lol :)
This worked on the first try! I was struggling even with all the crucible pick-ups, I died sooo many times 😂. Thank you for this! 👊
Good thing you got him quickly cuz
The longer the icon of sin is on earth the stronger he will become
Deserves more likes and views everyone needs to see this
I was so close to beating him but couldn't find his final spot and then died to a hoard of demons i feel so defeated
This guy on had 19k subs?? That seems odd because he makes great content and is very helpful.
My game crashed when i was about to kill him...
maxdog100 dude me too
That sucks. What difficulty were you playing on. I only just got it because I was really poor around launch, but I already beat it on Hurt Me Plenty, I started my Nightmare and Ultra-Nightmare runs, all in the same day.
It's pretty fun. I just gotta master certain parts of each level on Nightmare, then do them on UN. But I'm totally not looking forward to the later levels. Goddamn Archviles again. They just get worse the more games they're in. I prefer the Summoners over the Archviles because while they aren't as powerful, I feel they'd operate much like the Prowlers in Eternal. Very quick and hard hitting, but also weak compared to others. But seeing the HD Archvile was pretty cool.
I'm certain they're doing a third one in this 'New Doom' vein. Imagine having the Eternal and 2016 enemies at the same time. That sounds either amazing or the worst thing since Archviles.
few tries and load up my ultra nightmare and killed boss. Tysm xD
Doomguy in the lore would one shot this thing
Doomguy in the game needs a strategy
No, he wouldn't. Hayden himself said that you wouldn't be able to kill him without the crucible.
@@guilhermeg.rodrigues1248 He also told you that you can't shoot a hole in Mars and where did it take you?
@@RockmanGrave We all know that was just a moral statement
Hayden also said the following phrases:
"That is a weapon, not a teleporter."
"You can't just shoot a hole into the surface of Mars."
@@TheeNero He said it's a weapon and not a teleporter in itself. Doesn't mean it can't be USED as a teleporter. And the Icon of Sin still can't die without a crucible shoved directly into his brain.
"Plays on ultra nightmare"
*has 3 extra lives*
About to go In The second phase on ultra nightmare... wish me luck boys✊
Give him the beans
How did it go mate?
@@terokmaximus6841 the UV run helped alot. Knowing the quick switching strategy really helped. I play on console so alil more strategy on what weapons To go into a fight with first
daniel lavin, did you win?
Yessir!! It was hell but got it done. This GAHDAMN DLC is insane!! But the UN armor looks sick
Okay, first and foremost I would like too thank you for making this video. After seeing you fight him (I'm about to fight him) I'm pretty comfortable with what needs to be done. I have not struggled at all with this game, not even the Marauders give me a challenge; However, the boss before him...
That was the most irritating thing I've had to do in this game bar none. I would rather fight 10 Marauders at once than that stupid fight again. For some damn reason I couldn't get my shotgun chain to latch onto her after the first time I hit her. It was absolutely infuriating! I lost, I want too say 5 lives on her. Thankfully, this bosses life isn't regenerating and it's pretty straightforward. I'm on normal with 100% complete so far. I have to grab the last page and I'm done. I have 17 lives not including the three scattered across this level (just started).
At any rate, thank you once again and wish me luck!
5:40 oof that damage loop would have killed u on nightmare
I played it on Ultra violence and I am supriced he was able to attack on short distance so much time. Mostly I tried that with ignoring enemies I had literally everyone in the back and arena was absolute nightmare just to moving in.
"The longer the icon of sin is on earth the stronger he will become"
Doom slayer:oh great that means a good boss then ok
Man every time I watch these types of videos they never seem to approximate my experience. There are lots of times in this video where he is in one general area firing away. I never can do that for for that 2 seconds before I’m getting hit from the side or the back.
This is awesome, I love this game!!.... I'm really just here for a reply *lurk*
ilu azuka
Awesome tips and definitely worked for me on my first playthrough having no extra lives th rg ough the whole level. The last 2 levels has a massive difficulty spike that still destroys me till this day on hurt me plenty while I can make it through other levels without a death.
Hey Lynx sorry I haven't been around much been working like crazy in these crazy times .. another great informational video 👍hope you are doing well take care.
no worries dude.. hope all has been well. i hope you aren't to exposed at work to that one thing going around right now. thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.. take care dude!
Thanks man. Kept dying on UV difficultly then after seeing your video in full i killed him off in my first try. Good times.
Thank you so much! This helped me alot! New sub
hell yeah. super happy that you found the video and that it actually was able to help out a little. thank you a ton for taking the time to watch, sub and comment! again, really glad to know it helped
This boss was fucking hell. The thought of not bothering with the enemies never occurred to me.
the appeal to this *video* , is not simply the thumbnail or title.
its scrolling over it to see if its clickbait, and finding the three scenes being him spamming the *BFG*

Nice video, I wish I saw this before I beat the icon of sin. I kept going low on ammo and health and a bunch of demons spawned
OMG THANK U SO MUCH
I BEAT THE ICON OF SIN IN FIVE MINUTES OMGGGGGGGGG
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this extremely helpful video.
Thank you so much for the help. Beat him last night, thanks to your video 😁
Excellent video. Informative and well-spoken. Liked and subscribed ^_^
I wish the game had a boss fight selection. Like it lets you go into any level straight to the boss instead of dealing with everything.
THANK YOU MAN
now I completed 2 challenges
the +10 lives in extra live mode
I completed with 30 lives
and the "complete the campain with less than one praetor suit token and one sentinel cristal
i love how his fingers shook when he hit the ground is fucking epic
guide actually helped huh... ignore enemies is a good tip, only refill ammo from small guys then back to the icon
I never got the option to upgrade that giant machine gun
i discover something. You can crash 2 parts of the icon with the bfg, in the bennining of the fight, you must start with the bfg, the icon will punch you, in the moment when he launch the punch, instantly shot the bfg, and there you go 2x1.
Without the micro missiles this literally would’ve been hell on earth
see there’s this thing called quick switching which allows you to smash him to bits in like 4 seconds
Or just go to mission select, select second from list, (cant remember that mission name) but just choose it, from level start just right under first ledge is extra life, take it, quit game and do it again and again, and you get so much extra life as you want
Excellent guide. Many thanks
I bear the game in nightmare, but this boss is the only reason I dont try going for Ultra Nightmare
if you'd like to work on ultra-nightmare, try getting back to this encounter on nightmare by repeating the level in your N playthrough and run through it while applying the tips from this vid. you'll be surprised how trivial it becomes, even on nightmare. the gladiator is the major reason i'm dodging UN for now 😂
These comments are saying what I'm thinking, but I often ignore my brain and do stupid things, so I started my UN run. I heavily implore it because you just gotta train like a madman. Practice on Nightmare and start your UN playthrough when you start your N one. That way you can train for one level and win it on UN after practicing it. And dont get the Unmakyr on UN unless you are Jesus. Because if you die in one of the Slayer Gates, I'm pretty sure you still lose your save.
The doom slayer has killed the icon of sin TWICE. You shouldn’t forget that, because that makes him even more badass
Awesome video and commentary thank you!
Thanks this message my nightmare run ez. First try. Thanks !!!
hell yeah, congrats and well done on that!! thanks for taking the time to watch and let me know
5:15-5:25 Basically saying “The longer you fight the Icon of Sin, the stronger you will become.”
Thank you, great guide!
ive beat the game 4 times, twice on nightmare. my pro tip: move a lot, if you keep dying its probably because you arent moving enough. just make sure you dont run into a mancubus unknowingly
I’m just glad there weren’t any archville’s in this part
Finished it Yesterday first try in ultra violence
And after finishing the game i got Doom 1993
And it gave me a variation of the original slayer and a title and a sticker
and i gotta say it's easier than normal demons for the final boss of a Doom game
Didn’t see this comment but the BFG does more damage the farther away you are and the long distance it travels so if you can hit your shots it’s far better to shoot from the other side of the arena as it will do huge damage.
You earned a new sub and like. Ur vids are great 👍🙂
Great advice, finished my UN today this was pretty much the way I approached it, shame I saw this afterwards 😂
This video really helped so thank you
I have no motivation to beat this boss, lol. Trying to get the meat hook to grab was frustrating enough on the Urdak boss. I made it to 5 out of 8 armor before I died. I am sure I could eventually beat it, it's just not worth the frustration. I started the game over as it is a bad ass game minus some of the jumping puzzle b.s. I tried to go back to the 2016 version and that wasn't happening, lol. Cheers to anyone who had the patience to beat this boss. 👍
I followed the steps and easily beat it. Thank you.
On the BFG, I haven't tried this yet but... would the Unmaykr actually be useful here? The spread-shot could hit multiple body parts for big damage at once and that might be handy. I know the BFG basically deletes 1 body part but I wonder if Unmaykr is technically more efficient.
No - if you have a full BFG going in, it is highly preferable to the Unmaykr. The Unmaykr chews up ammo way too quickly, whereas with the BFG if you’re close, aiming carefully, and not trying to hit a moving target, you have a guaranteed destroyed body part. Unmaykr is better for groups of enemies in tight spaces, where the BFG doesn’t have room to travel and have its tendrils hit everything. BFG is honestly better in 90% of scenarios.
If you get punched by the IOS in ultra nightmare , even with saving throw, YOU ARE DONE. Even if you closed the app when the screen turned gray. Found that out today ... sad face...
Honestly, I loved this fight. It felt different and it was overwhelming. As it should, due to the fact that this is a fucking Titan, The Icon of Sin, being portrayed as he was originally planned from the very beginning (system limitations made being a wall the best they could do at the time). He tossed asteroids at you! The marauder and Archvile ain't got shit on this guy!
Good video 👍
Imagine if a marauder spawned in this boss battle
I just beat this guy on ps4, ultra violence. I kept dying from the barons and mancubi.
Beat it on nightmare. I freeze and S.Shotty the Mancubi. I'll add a Blood punch inbetween if they're cyber. As for the Barons, use those crucible pick-ups. Don't even put up with their BS.
Yeah when i first played the fight it was brutal. i couldn't believe how many additional enemies there were and i had to shift all my focus to staying alive against them instead of focusing on the boss. i genuinely think the enemy spawns in this are timed and that the spawns get more aggressive the longer the fight takes you; when completing the stages quickly, there are next to no enemies spawning.. it's kinda weird
@@backlynx The Icon will kill and spawn demons. He lifts his hand up in the air like he's summoning them. The one's he kills leave a small red electric-looking pool on the ground.
@@backlynx I don't think they are timed cause I will start the match and there's 3 snakes , 2 barons , 2 cybers etc right on start up its insane but Everytime I spawn there's different enemy patterns it's beyond difficult
Just beat it on nightmare on PS4. Now *THIS* is a serious clench fest. Phew!
Finished it on UV already, but watching this to make sure I get the achievement for extra life mode
hell yeah, i hope it actually helps in some way! for me, i had ridiculous improvements within encounters by just practicing and trying different things during replays. hope you EL playthrough goes well, i'm sure you'll be fine if you play it cautiously.. good luck!
@@backlynx I finished it a couple days ago and now have the platinum trophy for the game, thank you for your help.
Bean Water How tough was Extra Lives, bro?
I'm running it now. Up to Cultist Base with 14 lives.
I finished the game on HMP though.
@@takoshihitsamaru4675 I did my first playthrough on UV and extra life on HMP, its not very hard as long as you play it safe and dont take stupid risks, boss fights were all 10x easier because I was used to them (ask if you need tips) and finished on 30 extra lives.
Bean Water Controller?
Honestly, doing ultra nightmare, bfg was only for when I got over whelmed by enemies, I just spammed his armor with guns and took 20 minutes. I noticed in other peoples play through on lower difficulties that weren't getting butt fucked by a million super heavies. Just happy I never saw tyrant or doom hunter.
Thank you, sir!😁👍
