    I'm pretty sure they don't kill cows just for the leather, Once cows are killed for beef, one has a lot of skins that should be used for good stewardship of the environment, so for us carnivores, leather seats are not a serious environmental issue. caused by cars

    Thanks for what I'm sure will be the first of many comparisons between these two. The fact that a Cadillac is even being mentioned alongside a Rolls Royce is something that hasn't happened in like, what - almost 60 years? That is a significant event unto itself. Just one opinion from the peanut gallery out here - but good for Cadillac. It looks like they've laid the groundwork for what will be a very significant vehicle. Cadillac has spent the last decade-and-a-half chasing the Germans by building sports sedans that out-sport BMW's and Benzes to little advantage. Most anyone who wanted a high performance sports sedan continued to buy the German cars while the Cadillac cars offered better performance and bang for the buck but just never had the right image for the segment. The Celestiq is a top tier luxury car from a brand that has always been about luxury in image. At long last they are about to back up the image with fact again. The marketplace will decide if the styling and engineering are right for the segment. At long last, GM has decided to let Cadillac be Cadillac. I wish them well.

    What a lot of people don't know is way back in the day (100 years ago), Cadillac and RR both competed on the same level. So this would actually be a century later comeback for Cadillac.
    Anyway, dad is correct. Electric cars need to get away from the antiquated grill design. Instead of having all the electric/.EV appliques slather all over the car, simply lose the grill. Now we instantly can tell its electric.
    As for the Caddy, the problem with all that tech is that its the first thing to go obsolete, and will be obsolete after 3-4 years. If they're smart, they will build the display capable of software/firmware upgrades (something all cars, especially premium need to start doing btw). Conversely, the RR will age much more gracefully.

    Not too difficult to figure out the running gear since the Ultium only has a limited number of batteries and motors. My guess? Exactly like the Lyriq. 106 kWh battery which is actually two of the smaller 53.4 kWh batteries. Motors? Ultium only has three choices for non truck vehicles, 241hp, 342 hp and 83 hp. My guess is the 241hp up front and the 342 hp driving the rear. I think this will be the same as the AWD Lyriq. I think the range will also be similar to the Lyriq even though this car is a lot bigger. Cadillac is using four aluminum mega castings for the frame and extensive use of carbon fiber and stamped plastic to make up the body. Only question I have is why is Cadillac saying the battery is 111 kWh when it’s actually 106.8 kWh? Could it be possible that an extra 0.37 kWh cell was added to each of the 24 module? That would equate to 111 kWh.

    Cadillac? Uber ugly... inside and out! Awful! Roller? That twinkly roof and now doors? Straight out of a tacky cocktail lounge! The exterior is exquisite. But I wouldn't buy either of them. They're clearly aimed at buyers who are both rich AND pretentious. Mind you, that's just my opinion.

      The Rich and Pretentious are pretty much the only one's that can afford them and are willing to buy them. I'm somewhat pretentious, but not enough to spend 300k on a car. I have a Tag Heuer Formula 1 watch and blue Versace wallet, das ist es.😂 If I could afford it I'd probably buy the Cadillac, because if I'm going to be pretentious, I'm at least buying an AMERICAN car.

    As cool as the Cadillac is, it doesn’t seem to stand up to other cars in the $300,000 price-point. That’s more expensive than most Bentley’s, and triple the price of a top end Tesla, which is faster, has better software, and twice as many available charging stations, which charge faster, and have better range

    I'm not sure what the people at GM were drinking when they greenlit this project...but I must say that I'm very disappointed. Nothing wrong with moving Caddy upmarket, but that must've been Mary Barra's ego that jumped right them right over Mercedes/BMW to go head to head with RR at least on price. There's no way that the Cadillac crest is worth that much in brand equity. I was just getting used to the Escalade V at $150-$180K! Also, the designers of the Celestiq should go back and review the elegant lines of the El Miraj and the Ciel and try to figure out what went wrong with their car. IMO, it's fugly! Sorry Cadillac, this is a big L for you!!

    • @psychologicaltirefire8190
      @psychologicaltirefire8190 Год назад +3

      I disagree and many other do too. I think it's a incredible bold and eyecatching design that Cadillac needed to have. It's a car that isn't going to be a production line car like the old CT6 was. It's definitely trying to be what a Eldorado Broughham was of the late 50s and early 60s. In my opinion EVs are going to be what saves Cadillac from being a lesson in how a company can go from being incomparable to the bottom of the barrel in under 30 years time.

      When I was a kid, whenver a Cadillac went down the street, everyone would turn and look and wonder "who is that?!" One of my dad's biggest goals was to have a Cadillac (too bad he only managed to get a Buick!). Anyway, I want to root for the home team as well. I was so encouraged when Cadillac managed to break from the GM badge-engineering mode with their Art & Science design ethos which produced the CTS, STS and XLR (I still think that the XLR could be a great halo car for Caddy today!). But more importantly they also produced the most striking concept designs in GM history with the El Miraj, the Ciel and the Escala - why didn't we ever see these cars on the showroom floor? I'm sorry but the Celestiq - while it carries over some of the design language from the prior concepts - got ruined in the back. How many people spending $300K want a 4-door sedan with a hatchback?? This move is simply too optimistic to move Cadillac into Maybach territory in one fell swoop. People who disagree perhaps don't recall prior GM attempts to move toward a more bespoke price level - who remembers the Buick Reatta Lansing Craft Center? Or the Pininfarina bodied Cadillac Allante? Both abject failures. The Celestiq smacks of desperation, rather than implementation of an incremental strategy to move the brand upmarket backed by a solid product lineup. I can guarantee you that potential buyers of a Celestiq will not want to see their car sharing showroom space with an XT4 that starts at $36K. GM doesn't know what it's doing and that's why it's trying to come up from behind. Sorry but too little too late!

    • @MarinCipollina
      @MarinCipollina Год назад

      @@michaelkim3432 Your response indicates how little you know about this project. Celestiq won't be on any dealer's showroom floor. Each Celelstiq will be hand built by commission, with extensive client involvement in the process. Sounds like you're the one that doesn't know what they're talking about. And what's wrong with a fastback with a hatch entry? Cadillac will sell every one of these they produce, and many would-be buyers will be left empty handed. Don't be a hater.

    cadillac could've put a spoiler on the celestiq and disguised it as a wagon... or just committed to a wagon. but as is, it just looks weird, and the blue did it no favours. also, the BSM/RCTA better be good, cause those C pillars are thick.

    • @Cal94
      @Cal94 Год назад

      @@PaulTC777 the problem with cameras is they inevitably get covered with road spray in wet weather. and it's particularly bad with salt spray, which dries into a crust, vs water spray, which is usually just a blurry nuisance. and you'd hope someone rich enough to afford one of these things, would be rich enough to garage it in winters, but if they don't, freezing rain may also interfere with BSM/RCTA systems...
      Point being, as long as the human is responsible for the actions of the vehicle, I'm personally always going to dislike things that negatively affect the human's ability to control them. even if said human is too lazy to use all the options afforded to them. automakers seem soo keen to add more glass to cars, particularly where their roofs are concerned... i just wished they'd stop taking away from the sides and rears, where it actually matters. but hey, i'm clearly not the target demo for these things...
