42:59 the generous viewer in me likes to believe they had something cooking for Frenchy including a dramatized flashback of him killing the Judge and his family; but lots of the writing got derailed for the writer’s strike and they couldn’t postpone production etc etc

It’s wild that this show has gotten so in-your-face with its social commentary that Tek Noir’s “my family went from slave catching to private prisons” speech almost counts as subtle by comparison.
I dunno if it was an intentional mislead or if its just a missed opportunity but it seemed incredibly telegraphed that Hughie was going to be found out because of his lack of webshooter. They gave us the close up of Webweaver's webhole, and multiple shots of the hole in the back of the suit, and visibly showed up how easy it is to spot that Hughie doesn't have a hole to line up with the hole in the suit. But then it just doesn't go anywhere or lead to anything. Instead we get this very long SA bit that is supposed to be funny I guess?
I love how everyone assumes either the kid is gonna die or is a spy or something. This show has traumatised us so much that we just genuinely believe a nice moment can never happen 😂
Id really appreciate if Hollywood could move past this weird trend of playing male SA scenes off for laughs. Dont get me wrong, im not getting on the case of anyone who laughed at the huey scene. It was WRITTEN to be laughed at. But like....thats sort of what the problem is, you know?
@@ironrocker100 Especially if you compare it to the Annie scene in the first episode of the series. The writers even had totally different attitudes about the scenes in interviews. With the Annie scene, they talked about wanting to take their time and be respectful while with the Huey scene they talked about how hilarious they found it. Again, it is totally not my intention to stand up on a soap box, it just felt a little...icky. I appreciate you, homie.
I personally liked how they sequenced it. It felt like they intentionally film it as funny to have the punch in the stomach realization later, that it wasn't actually funny. It was terrifying and traumatic and we shouldn't have laughed at it. I could be reading too much into it though, especially with what you mentioned about the writers saying in interviews. I can also completely understand your POV as well.

If you're curious as to the specific interview I took issue with, it was Erik Kripke's interview with Variety. And I really don't think anything was done with any malice. It just came off as a little tone-deaf to me. I am really glad you shared your perspective with me! The next time I watch this episode, I'll keep that point of view in mind. Thanks, homie!! ^_^
