I love that when Electra, Blade, and Gambit come in, you're cheering and laughing, but when X-23 enters, there's hushed, reverent whispers. The first three are fun cameos, reminders of films past, or in Gambit's case an in-joke about a movie stuck in development hell, due to inter-studio wrangling - but Laura's appearance is a long-ago promise being _finally_ made good. It's a damn _crime_ that she hasn't had a movie of her very own, long before now!
I'm sure they'll bring her back for either doomsday or Secret Wars. Or maybe they'll make her the MCU Wolverine when they do the MCU version of the X-Men.
I think the main reason she didn't have a film of her own is because Logan was released in early 2017, nine months before the Disney acquisition of Fox was even announced, so it was the last X-Men film entirely under Fox's control at the time of its release. Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants were both filmed before the Disney merger began, but neither was released until after the sale closed and Disney fully owned all of Fox's IP, including projects that were in the middle of development when the merger was happening. Anyway, once Disney acquired all of the Fox assets, how they would start incorporating Fox's Marvel content into the MCU was entirely in Kevin Feige's hands, but Disney already had a ton of their own projects in the works, so it was known early on that we probably wouldn't see Fox's Marvel characters introduced in the MCU for at least a few years. And then COVID-19 hit, which cost most studios at least a year of lost production time, pushing all of their schedules way forward. Black Widow was fully produced and queued up to start doing press tours in April 2020 when the pandemic hit a few weeks earlier, and the film was originally supposed to be released on May 1, 2020, but didn't actually premiere until July 3, 2021. Anyway, between the complex merger process which slowed down all of Fox's productions that were already underway and the effects of the pandemic on the entire film industry, it wasn't really practical to develop and produce an X-23 standalone film in the middle of all of that chaos. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the first MCU production to introduce X-Men characters from the Fox universe, and it came out in early 2022. We're still waiting on full incorporation of the Fox Marvel universe, but this movie (D&W) is the most we've gotten yet in terms of intertwining the two cinematic universes. Next year's The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be the second MCU film primarily focused on characters that were originally introduced and developed by Fox. I'm hoping by the time we get to Avengers: Doomsday that most of the Fox characters will be fully incorporated into the MCU.
@@dtgstl3148 That makes a lot of sense. I was only vaguely aware of the timeline of the merger, and Covid19 crashing into the middle of it. When you lay it out like that, it makes much more sense than Fox _deciding_ not to capitalise on the massive goodwill that _Logan_ had brought the franchise.

Disney wasn't actually required to show the Fox title card at the end of the old clips from the Fox X-Men/Fantastic Four universe during the credits, because there is no Fox anymore (at least not the film and television production company). The main studio from Fox under Disney ownership is now called 20th Century Studios - they dropped the Fox name completely. Fox Searchlight Pictures is now just Searchlight Pictures. Anyway, Disney now owns Fox's entire IP content catalog, so they can do whatever they want with archival backstage footage from the X-Men/F4 films produced by Fox prior to the acquisition, and they obviously can't sue themselves for copyright infringement. I think including the Fox title card was a way for Disney to link the two separate cinematic universes while paying homage to all of the Fox-produced Marvel content and giving that era a proper farewell.
