Hi John, Brian here. I’m the guy who emailed you back around March about searching for Shirley Strachan’s crash site at Mount Archer near Woodford, is that what you were talking about on this adventure as the beginning was cut off? If so I really look forward to seeing your results and hope that you have success at finding it. The Yowie experience from 1979. If I remember it was around the Stoney Creek area on the way to Kilcoy.. Also enjoyed the boys trip on their Cradle Mountain Trek in Tassie. Great achievement . Anyway happy adventuring and keep them coming.
Hey Brian! Yes, I've done a recon and got an idea where to do my search... I think next week will be when I do it. There's a lot of difficult area to cover, so will see how I go. I am keen to find it tho... Will keep you posted for sure.
Big Snake, If You Had Your Walking Sticks You Would Not Have Needed That Stick. Reminds Of When I Lived On The Island Of Sulawesi Indonesia. They Have Spitting Cobras, Black Panthers And Komota Dragons Hiding In The Jungles. I Ran Into A Komota Dragon About 12 Feet Long On 1 Of My Hikes, I thought It Was A Dog At First. Man I Had A Blast Living In Indonesia.
Tell me about it, I wish my sticks on this hike! Yeah, those Komodo Dragons can be massive, I've seen them in our zoos.... wow! Sounds like you really enjoyed Indonesia.
Def the Japanese Tea Set, LOL.... that was for a review video. :) Most other items that are bulky but necessary are the tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and cookers. We do like a little bit of luxury on our camp outs 😂
Hi John, nice walk with the boys in a beautiful spot. I want to ask your opinion as a wikiloc user- I have found wikiloc records much higher mileage than AllTrails or gps. Like a lot more often 3 or 4km higher over a 18-22km walk. Have you found this? Kris
Hmm, I usually record my gpx using my Garmin watch, and then I transfer it to Wikilocs at a later time... but for me it's always read as what my watch has recorded. I often compare my watch against my boy's Garmin watches, and there are always differences between all three. Mine is a bit older now, the Fenix 5, and I've noticed it shows more than Jacob's new Epix watch.... so I think mine must be going out of accuracy. But I can't explain your Wikilocs distance difference - might depend on what you're using to record your gpx. Maybe next time you hike, use both Wikilocs on your phone to record, and if you have say a watch or another gpx recording tool, and then it can narrow down where the problem might lie.
@ yeah will do. Im usually recording both on my phone at the same time. A couple of weeks ago the ship stern circuit with lower b falls was 22.4 on all trails and 26.6 on wikiloc. I wasn’t aware you could transfer from the Garmin to wikiloc. I will have to get a watch. Thanks again
Only one YT video of walkers to Shirley's crash site. They got hammered in the comments by Skyhooks fans but I don't see any difference to visiting the Piper Comanche, Stinson or Lincoln Bomber plane sites. Apparently the wreckage has been removed but I think that's BS to stop people looking for it. I had planned to visit the site in 2021 but COVID hit. I could never find the coordinates online. Even the official crash report is vague. Got luck with the search.
Yep, that's right. The wreckage removal is not really confirmed officially, so I'll have to see for myself, lol. This one is going to be rough to find but I'll give it a crack - I doubt I'll find it first go.
What a spot to wake up. Beautiful morning wips.
The bird life was amazing. Natural alarm clock
Nice one John. Last time i did it, the river was pumping, no crossings under calf muscle deep. Nice walk m8👍
Thanks Paul... Wow, sounds like a lot of water then. Very dry this time round
Love this adventure
That frog ate all the yowies 😆
Well, the giant barred frog needs a big feed! 🐸
Great video once again Gentleman 👏 🙂
Cheers Ben... great little spot out there for sure!
That's a giant barred frog at 17:50. Well spotted.
So that's what it was.... thanks for the ID. :)
I'm disappointed John.........No yowie encounters at Binna Burra. It should be a "shoe-in" up there !! 😆
Don't worry.... I've got an adventure planned soon up at Kilcoy. We'll get our Yowie there 100% :)
This might help in finding the crash site..ruclips.net/video/FNy3TDatym8/видео.html
Awesome video..
Thanks Sandra!
Hey John, That black stuff on your hands was a tree 22 million years ago, that place is a real geological layer cake.
Yep, I thought you'd like that stuff.... 👍👍
