I'm Mark Wiens and thank you very much for watching this video about a few of the top things to do in Kuala Lumpur, a city that just happens to be one of my favorite cities to visit in Southeast Asia. It's the largest and probably the most important and influential city in Malaysia and truly has some amazing sites to offer. Along with modern skyrise towers like the Petronas Towers, there are still lots of traditional historic buildings as well. The awesome mixture of cultures, the mix of traditional and modern, and very importantly, the outstanding cuisine is what makes Kuala Lumpur such a great city to explore!
1. On this list of top things to do in Kuala Lumpur I first stop by the most famous landmark of the the city: the Petronas Towers. These twin giant sky scrapers are huge, and they literally reach towards the heavens and touch the clouds. On the bottom of the Petronas Towers is a pretty fancy shopping mall while the tops of the towers are filled with offices. On the 41st and 42nd floor, there is a sky bridge which connects the two towers together and which is open for visitors. Years ago, it used to be free entrance but unfortunately now they have started to charge a rather steep 80 Malaysian Ringgits per person.
2. After the visiting the Petronas towers, number two on the list is the historical district of old Kuala Lumpur. Visiting and walking around the area is one of the top things to do in Kuala Lumpur and you shouldn't miss the opportunity. From Merdeka Square to the old railroad station, you'll see some amazing architecture and buildings. Another must visit is the National Mosque, which is known as Masjid Negara. With a capacity of 15,000, this is the central and most visited mosque in the city.
3. The Menara KL Tower, along with the Petronas Towers, is one of the dominating features of Kuala Lumpur's skyline. At 421 meters in height, it's one of the world's tallest communications towers. I was lucky enough to be invited to the annual BASE jumping event which was held at the KL Tower so I had a pass to go to the top for the incredible view and to see the event (migrationology.com/2012/10/jor.... The KL Tower also offer look out viewpoints and a number of restaurants where you can dine with an incredible view.
4. Number 4 is Little India which is better known as Brickfields. Kuala Lumpur is home to many Indian's many from the south of the country. Brickfields is a popular place to browse, shop for all sorts of Indian products and most importantly to eat at some seriously delicious Indian restaurants. If you're looking for good Indian food in Kuala Lumpur, check out this restaurant: migrationology.com/2012/11/sou...
5. Chinatown, located on Petaling Street, is one of the biggest Kuala Lumpur attractions. It's mostly known for it street shopping and restaurants. You can find all sorts of fake brand names and nearly everything imaginable.
6. Thean Hou Temple is one of the most impressive Daoist temples in Kuala Lumpur. It's free to visit and offers insights into the Hainanese community in the city and there are also great views of the city.
7. Central Market, is a top tourist shopping attraction in Kuala Lumpur. Though many of the products are rather touristy, there are some good things waiting to be found.
8. Within central Kuala Lumpur are the KL Lake Gardens and Bird Park. It makes a great tropical escape to the bustling city life.
9. The Batu Caves, located just outside the central part of the city is one of the best things to do in Kuala Lumpur. The caves and shrines are one of the most sacred Hindu sites outside of India.
10. Chow Kit Market is the central fresh wet market in the city. Everyday thousands of shoppers get their Malaysian food ingredients at this interesting market.
11. Malaysian food is the ultimate attraction to visiting Kuala Lumpur. With a great mixture of local Malay, Chinese, and Indian, there's no shortage of incredible dining that will leave you satisfied and hungry for more! For myself, eating is one of the best things to do in Kuala Lumpur!
Hope you enjoyed this list and hope you have a wonderful visit!

Ohhh... I miss Kuala Lumpur.I was only meant to stay for a few days but I was pick pocketed on one of the free busses.I'm SO glad I was pick pocketed because I was stranded there for over a month while I was waiting for my cards to arrive.I met so many honest, genuine people and ate the best food of my life.Roti telur with a masala tea for breakfast, curry for lunch, more curries and masala dosa with sweet lassi for dinner...I'm not Muslim, but I miss hearing the prayers coming from the mosques as the sun was setting.I'll definitely return.Greetings from Australia!
Im glad you were ok, and had a great time.. But you really should only carry 1 card and money you can afford to lose outside of your hotel/apartment. I guess you know that now anyway!
well, that's a prime example of a blessing in disguise, i usually leave majority of my money at the hotel, and i have a hidden pouch/fannypack under my shirt that i dont ever take out unless i go to the bathroom to pull out more money, so i usually keep some spending cash in my pockets, the bigger amount is in the pouch under my shirt, and majority of the trip's money is back at the hotel.
You're always welcome to visit our country next time. Sorry for your lost, apparently these pickpocket are destroying our country's image. Im so glad to hear that you had a great time despite your misfortune.
your comment shows what a really great person you are..kudos, mate ;)
i'm so sorry for what happened to you when you was in kuala lumpur..sorry for your lost...glad to hear you enjoyed Malaysian food.Thank you for visting Malaysia.
Malaysia is an incredible place where I had an opportunity to live. Every park and place is incredibly amazing. If you want to see a wildlife, you could go to the Bird Park or to the Kuala Lumpur Deer Park. Also, if you will travel just 25 km out from KL, you can experience the jungle at ATV Adventure Park Kuala Lumpur,The center offer a different kind of sporting recreation for the people who enjoy thrilling and nature at the same time.. Every centimeter of this land should be discovered by tourists. That country is a mix of modern and old culture. Every town or place that you will visit enchants its uniqueness and friendliness.
Last year I went kl and believe me there people are very innocent and helpful... I love kl
😀i agree. i almost laugh whn i first lived in KL from L.A. i was thinking how to live n talk baby talk. they so simple..humble.

I arrived this morning on my first trip to Kuala Lumpur and have been pretty blown away, it's awesome.
And many of the things you recommend here are within walking distance from me.
Had a great day today seeing many of them. Petronas towers at night is amazing (during the day too in fact), and the scene behind it tonight that looks over that pristine park, there was a full moon right between the two biggest buildings. It was a photographers dream. My camera was charging at the hotel and I only had my phone with me. :(
yes.when i first landed in KL.......i did not returned parmanently again to usa .in my future maybe i will hv to choose one..this my problem..i dono wic

Mr Mark Wiens, Your videos are amazing and truly lively. Your presentation on tasty food is interesting. Kindly continue your honest prentation of all places you visit.
I just came back from KL for a quick business trip, not planning to visit anything. Seeing your vid made me enthusiatic to have a look around. Finally I spent the whole week-end visiting the town, and tasting food; it was great, and tastier than the hotel food! Thank you Mark!
Chris MAUDAVE LOL.. I bet all the tourists, or even Malaysians themselves thought that way.. No hotels in KL are actually able to compete with the deliciousness of hawker's food there.. =P
If come to malaysia, dont stay long in Kuala Lumpur only, explore the forests, islands and beaches
Alots cheap domestic flights around malaysia
If you go to sabah and sarawak, they have alots of great cultures, different foods and beautiful islands
Dont eat in hotel too formal, go outside and full your stomach with varieties local food, malay/indian/Chinese/sarawak.. go find fresh seafood!!
What a funny face you make when you like the food! It was nice to see all the places i have been in Malaysia. Love that country.

OMG, Kuala Lumpur/Singapore/Thailand may be the top three cleanest countries in South East Asia. Love all
I'm from KL...sorry...I find this a joke hahahhaha :P :P no intention to offend you though...but I wish it's clean...it's so smeeelllyy and messy here with pollution and dirty BIG drains...but glad you sounded like you had a great time here...:) :)
Aiza Johanna Zulkifli Personally, I dont think KL is as bad as you portrayed.. Of course, there are a lot places that look messy and some of it smelly as well.. But in general, I would rate KL is better than any other Southeast Asian cities (except Singapore) in many aspects (no offence).. Frankly said, Singapore is not really clean either.. Tourists like to come to ASEAN cities for their vibrant lifestyle.. =)
azharkent guess I can't disagree to that at all...amongst ASEAN countries that is...the place may be the way it looks...but I know the country is slowly trying to improve on looking better...so to me that's what counts :D :)
so far i dun find any messy places here on KL, but ya asian culture life style attracts alot to visitor, i mean u have to give a leverage to asians abt cleaning... ya Aiza right it will takes time for improve and KL has a planned, working on for it...
Aiza Johanna Zulkifli I dont know where you live. Try living in Cyberjaya its clean and good air
I'm a proud citizen of KL..thanks for choosing Malaysia!
Mark, I've been watching your video for several years now. Your video is steadily improving and you're becoming quite a professional video blogger. Good job and keep it up. I like the fact that you're showing more with tourism and less with food!

good job Mark. thanks we appreciate for uploading these very informative videos
My daughter and I will visit Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on May 25 to May 27, 2014 and will definitely try all the 11 things you are suggesting. Thanks, Mark!
My favorite dish when I went to Singapore was Nasi Lemak - and I thought it was a Singaporean dish! The chicken was so herby and tasty, and there was something special about the rice. I would want to eat it from Malaysia itself when I visit (hopefully soon).
Nasi lemak is Malay food. It's not about country, but race. Just same as curry, originally Indian food. And nasi lemak is originally Malay food.
Singapore was separated from Malaysia for only about fifty years ago, so no wonder we share a lot of common food recipes - I can't really say foods such as nasi lemak, teh tarik, roti canai whether they come from which country. Some hundreds years ago the then Malaysia known as Tanah Melayu was one of the bigger Malay Archipelago which includes Singapore (then Temasek) and Indonesia (then was ruled by a lot of different royal rulers such as Acheh, Majapahit and a lot more).
***** Bottomline,Nasi Lemak is a Malay food,not Malaysian,not Singaporean,not Indonesian but a Malay food.I think.
Nasi Lemak's rice is cooked with coconut milk thats why it is special!
Singapore was actually a part of Malaysia long time ago but got separated due to political reasons.
I will be coming to Malaysia at 23 rd my ticket has been booked
Hello there. Hope you have enjoyed the city as I wasn't sure which month would your visit be.
