  • Following several protests by the community of eTwatwa against the Benoni Taxi Association, the two parties finally reached an understanding with the intervention of the MMC for Transport in Ekurhuleni.
Top of the list of complaints by the community were exorbitant taxi fares and lack of safety.
The community submitted a memorandum last month and gave the association seven days to respond however this did not happen.
SABC News Reporter Xoliswa Makhikhi reports.

If the govt won't protect communities from the taxis, we will take measures into our own hands. We are bullied by these Taxis every day, and the govt is deaf to our crisis.

Amanga kodwa lawa, a taxi from etwatwa to Daveyton was not R12, it was R15.. These people are still lying, there's going to be another strike if they keep on lying..
