This guy took her straight into the hood From The Gate 😅😂😁 I'm from Ethiopia / Eritrea.. And I really want to apologize for having a host that really hasn't prepared for your visit. Not only did he not inform you that he didn't speak any English but make you feel completely comfortable and didn't even decide to take the time to rent a car or borrow one from a friend, family or neighbor. And on top of that he didn't even take the time to probably introduce you or explain the traditional Ethiopian cuisine over half of the population in Ethiopia are vegetarians so there are plenty of different vegetarian dishes he could have introduced you to.. Just some side note for you If you ever decide to come back to Ethiopia 1. Make sure the driver is fully cooperative. 2. Make sure the host is highly recommended meaning you can watch some of the other content creators( RUclipsrs) they usually leave the contact information of their host in the video. 3. staying in Addis Ababa for One day is differently not enough there is so much history in the city that goes back 3.2 million-years, so there are many national museum's in the country to go to‼️
This was a “friend” doing me a favor having his friend take me around. I already had a host that deals with content creators booked to take me around but canceled because “my friend” wanted to do this favor for me
Why you picked the oldest car when you have a choice of cars or taxis? Rare locals pick such taxi. If that was your choice then. There was a choice of interpraters also. In merkato it was better to walk than driving. All In all better organisation could make the Journey much better. Wish you good luck.
to say the vendors were charging you higher is beyond rude, that's the value of the product. They are business owners who are providing products, and are making a living, if you don't like the prices that is your problem not theirs. As someone who is visiting the country you should try to be a good guest. The video is good overall though.
Omg Jewelyn, you are way braver than me🥹, between the car running out of gas, old as heck and run down ,to so many people jumping in front of the cars, and the poor goats for sale😞, I would be a wreck. But that’s what it’s all about, sucking up local culture ☺️. I got so excited when you reached the plant district , too bad you couldn’t film, would have loved to see what they had to offer.Woukd love the coffee, but I need half and half in mine😂, looked strong.Friendship square looked beautiful.
@@jewelofhawaii Addis and the Ethiopian locals are the kindest people. You just made an uninformed decision to cancel on the actual tour guides in favor of one that is not actually a tour guide. Ethiopians are good people and the culture is well mannered and considerate. You had the unfortunate experience of running into scammers, but scammers exist EVERYWHERE. When I was in Hawaii, I was scammed 5 times by 5 different individuals, does that mean that Hawaiins are scammers? NO. It means that I had the unfortunate experience of running into scammers who were Hawaiin. Same thing. Don't generalize.
You should have went with a good guide who understands English and did some research on Ethiopia. I would have hooked you up with one of my friends who wouldn’t have scammed you . I stayed the for a month and I don’t even speak Amharic and i had fun . It’s really cheap too
I had plans to go with a guide that has been with other content creators but canceled because this “friend” of mines wanted to take care of me. “Don’t worry my friend will drive you and take you around for the day” … I brought him $100 worth of protein bars (which you can imagine took up space and weight in my luggage and I’m traveling 3 countries)
I heard that before. They will ask you to bring them stuff from here and demand more money when you get there. They will take you to crappy places and abandon you. Its crazy.
All of ya'll shut up, if you didn't have him and had a genz youtuber you would have gotten robbed or kidnapped. Old guards of Addis or tour operators are needed to avoid this situations. And they are the most funny ones just that Amharic is our 1st language. But Promise he was trying his best
You should travel with good guide who can show you Addis in better way. His English is so weak, sometimes he told you in Amharic though he knew you didn't understand Amharic. He has distorted most of the historical sites and their background. It was better to hire someone with a better guide experience.I feel sorry for you.
I’ll explain in a story time. My plan was to do a day tour with a local guide by my “friend” set me up with his friend as a thank you since I brought something over for him. At the end of it all I got into an argument with them 😐 as I felt like I was getting scammed.
