Completely agree. I think sometimes Hickman can get a bad wrap because people see Secret Wars and Time Runs Out as somewhat nihilistic, but there's always a focus on how superheroes represent our ability to imagine our way out of impossible situations. To me, Hickman might be THE definitive comic book writer of this generation. Every major work he's put out has sent ripples through the industry, and it's hard not to see why.
Jonathan Hickman Fantastic four run was freaking fantastic and personally in my opinion the best writer to handle the fantastic four that nobody has ever topped in my book at least in my opinion.
Great video. Your editing skills are top notch as always. I never read this run but can't help and notice how the _Fantastic Four: Life Story_ mini-series hit most of the same beats (Reed's marriage deteriorating due to his work, Johnny sacrificing himself, and Ben lighting up). Hickman had to have been a huge influence on the team to distill his run across six issues.
I have never like or read FF4 in my life. Then I pick up Hickman run on the FF4 for the first time. I read the whole thing in a week. Now I love the FF4. It's that good.
Awesome video the FF is one of MARVELS flagship teams and books and Hickman's run is a testament to why you have to put this run along side Lee/Kirby Byrne WAID/weiringo as one of the great runs. Also you should cover those runs
I'd really love to dig into the FF's history a lot more, but I've got a rule covering stuff that friends have tackled before. If you're looking for a great Waid/Wieringo FF video, Matt Draper's got a pretty spectacular one. Lee/Kirby, though...
@@ForEveryKindofGeekI seen Matt's ff waid/weiringo run it's incredible they brought FF back to its roots as explores and family also do the lee/ Kirby FF run. In fact cover more Kirby
I would love to see you do a video on secret Warriors and S.H.I.E.L.D, obviously you should do Avengers down the line but secret Warriors and S.H.I.E.L.D dont get nearly enough love.
The man knows how to make an ambitious story. I'd argue even if people aren't fans they have to see why his work has such an impact on comics as a whole.
Love this channel, any plans on covering more comics not by the big 2? Your videos on Klaus and Public Domain have gotten me more interested in that side of the industry.
Yeaaaah Let's get this video to a lot of views in the first hour so that it gets love from youtube Algorithm bless this video which i liked even before watching it because it's that good Seriously, sometimes i end up pissed off because i can't like it again after watching it, fix that youtube Lots of words lots of engagement, yadda yadda
This run was great. The only flaw was all the "universal inhumans" stuff. I can't bring myself to give a shit about the inhumans. I know they debuted in FF but everytime they popped up here I groaned.
After reading the first arc in the masterful Ultimate spider-man run by Hickman I was sold on the guy. So I impulse bought all of his omnibuses (ultimate universe by Hickman, secret warriors, both FF, and both avengers). I was ready and hyped, I started with secret warriors which takes place after Bendis's secret invasion event and it was solid. Then I started reading this busy mess... Maybe I am just too stupid to follow 5 to 6 stories happening simultaneously, but I had to call it quits in the end and stopped reading at the beginning of the second omnibus. This is not a review but a warning to any "casual" reader who read Waid's and Millar's FF and expected more adventures in that same vain... this is not for you. In this series, you are constantly bombarded with new characters and events to the point where nothing really resinates or sticks. it felt like a twelve year old was just trying play with all 70 of his action figures all at once to mesh up one big "epic". I say this as someone is currently LOVING ultimate S-M and really enjoyed Hickmans secret warriors, the guy can write, but this was just too "comic booky" for my taste. non the less , I know I am in the minority here as the run is highly celebrated. I'm glad you liked it.
Don't take it the wrong way, I love your content, but I wish you would get rid of most of the sound effects, like the one in every scene transition. I usually can only watch a couple minutes before I get so annoyed I can't watch the rest of the video. I know this is such a particular issue to have, but I have this problem with these kind of sounds, they hit my brain the wrong way, I don't know. I know that people on the spectrum can also have this kind of annoyance, so maybe it affects more people out there. Besides that, great work as always.
That's more than fair. To me, the sound effects are necessary to fit the computery hi-tech aesthetics. That said, I'm always looking to tinker and improve, and I can look into more subtle sfx to use in the future.

that Jonny Hicks sure can write a comic
Yes he can his ff and x-men runs are masterclasses of superhero storytelling and that east of west is perfect sci Fi Western

It's the works of Jonathan Hickman that serve as definitive proof Superhero comics can be masterclasses of storytelling.
Exactly

@@ForEveryKindofGeek He really os gonna cement his place in comic book history.
Jonathan Hickman's run on Fantastic Four is so fantastic. Richards's arc is so incredible, and it would all end in the better Secret Wars from 2015.
I am constantly amazed by Hickman's ability to keep building on his own stories. It's kinda ridiculous
Ah yes The resurgence of FANTASTIC FOUR/FUTURE FOUNDATION 🗿👌 😎👍
Your videos are criminally under-rated

Congrat for the video! If you’ve read it could you make a video on shade the changing man by Peter milligan ?

No, really. Life Story sucks. This no.
What a great video for such a great run

Hickman’s fantastic four run is potentially the greatest marvel run of all time. In fact, it’s not potentially, it just is.
Thanks for the video
I am in love with the quality of your videos ❤❤❤

Just about every book Hickman writes is a/the definitive run on the title.
The man knows how to make an ambitious story. I'd argue even if people aren't fans they have to see why his work has such an impact on comics as a whole.
The only non definitive one is x men, tbh I just wish it was more like his avengers, I still really enjoy the world of krakoa he made tho

Thanks so much! I've definitely got a lot more indie stuff planned, and I'm spending a lot of the rest of this year covering non-comic media
cover more of hickmans plans for the marvel universe
Planning on it!
You are awesome. That is all I have to say.
Thanks so much! You're pretty awesome yourself.
Great job
Thanks! I've been steadily building this one for a while, and between you and me, there's even more to come...
This is such a good video
I cannot find the music for that “it all starts the same way bit” is it on RUclips?
