A lot of people have a wrong notion of Sg rules & regulations & fines etc. The signs such as do not liter, do not smoke, do not feed wild animals, birds etc, are put up as reminders to people & deterrent so that we have clean comfortable environment for everyone to live & reside here. This makes us more conscious to be considerate too.

Let's be honest, most of the time, I will be exploring all day anyway. No high class dining but affordable food that the locals enjoy. That's way to experience the culture.

After 20 years working in Singapore as an expat, I retired here. Love this country. Would never think of retiring in Thailand, but its close enough for getaways. So happy you show us a reasonable price hotel, I was in Singapore during June, hotel price is very high, love the city very clean, evening I went to Lau Pa Sat Satay street, great atmosphere, try No 8 stall for best satay, cost me Singapore $14 for one person.
Just sharing a local tip: Lau Pat Sat is for tourists. There are many more great hawker centres all over Singapore that has authentic local food, at local prices !
I dont think if the facts support this but I definitely felt like I saw many more kids outside in Singapore. Probably also because its so safe, parents have no issues letting their kids out
Thank you! You make me proud as a Singaporean! Public places are maintained because we have a strong government that plans and budgeted for all maintenance works that must be carried out as a routine.
Thank you sir,you are the best vloggers ever to walk around and describe my country singapore so clearly. We singaporean welcome you to visit singapore more often.🤜🤛✌
This video has more depth than other travel vlogs that i've watched so afar. Your observations and descriptions of my country and inspirations derived from your 'walk-about' inspired me as a local.
The local coffee is just amazing! Ya Kun Kaya Toast and Toast Box has one of the best local coffee shop chains across the island. It's also affordable compared to Starbucks or Coffee Bean where a simple cup of Latte could cost you SGD$9-12! Lol Im a local here, and I cry every time I have colleagues who want to have coffee at Coffee Bean or Starbucks 😂
My family and I fell in love with Singapore. We visited there the past 3 summers, and my son wants us to move there. We've gotten tired of living in Texas. When I tell people about Singapore, they always bring up the lack of freedom. I will gladly give up that perception "freedom" for a safer environment and affordable food. Currently trying to find out the requirements and how much I would need financially to move there.
It is not that expensive, if you live like locals and not like ‘expats’. If you don’t live in expensive condos, eat at expensive restaurants or shop at high end stores.
What exactly is freedom? Free to breathe clean air and free from polluted water? Free to talk down the streets without fear, free from fear and out your children being killed in school? Yeah, America has freedom to spout nonsense, but where does that get you? A country where people cannot even agree on facts, because alternative facts have become the thing. Freedom? Too simplistic a thinking from the ignorant.
Another great vlog Chris........My own journey is about to begin in 5 days finally and for the next 6 months...I retired at 59 finally had enough and time to travel... 16 months already so no real time limit actually..First stop Bali then Thailand to start with then visit the countries and cities of Bangkok, Hua Hin,Cambodia,Vietnam,Da Nang, Kuala Lumpur, Penang , Jomtein, Phillipines and Laos......Happy travels and stay safe...who knows we may cross paths if we are in the same city I will keep an eye out on your vlogs to see where you are in your travels...Aloha Chris.🙂
I was in Melbourne city centre for a week’s holiday, you know Melbourne, beautiful streets, beautiful buildings, great art scenes, but I can’t help thinking many of the streets are filthy with trash on the pavements and on the seats right in the city centre, many public facilities are unkept, and homeless people in many corners. And it was constantly voted as the best top 10 cities to live in by some western surveys.
I’m American. I hear what you are saying. I believe there are “officials” that are afraid of progress. What you’re describing is infrastructure. Improving infrastructure costs money and many Americans just don’t want to pay (taxes) what it takes to have what some of these Asian countries have. I think you hit it on the nail about no skin in the game, not vested, etc. I don’t have any answers, so in part, I’ll be starting my slow travel journeys in a year when I retire. Cheers.
Corp tax in Singapore is about 17% and USA 25% so good luck to American if Democrats win. We will safe on our defense and build more better infrastructures and schools … Terminal 5🎉🎉🎉
I was there last yr ....went into the 3 towers and there is a nice garden on the left of towers and across is the lion statue under construction....stayed in india side and loved the china town and eaten at the famous hinan chkn place
The ten most violent cities in the world are: 1. Tijuana, Mexico 2. Acapulco, Mexico 3. Caracas, Venezuela 4. Ciudad Victoria, Mexico 5. Ciudad Juárez, Mexico 6. Irapuato, Mexico 7. Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela 8. Natal, Brazil 9. Fortaleza, Brazil 10. Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela In 2022, Singapore ranked as the first safest country or area in the Global Law and Order Index. Singapore is also ranked first in the Green Cities Index for Asia. No trash, no graffiti, no weird people roaming the streets.
Thank you for sharing your observations and opinions about Singapore. As a Singaporean, I do see Singapore has certain negatives compared with other countries but then again, which country doesn't! On the balance, perhaps Singapore has more pros than cons. Most important, we have racial harmony, peace and safety ... something which many other countries cannot claim to have. I hope you will enjoy our hospitality and Singapore welcome you to visit again .. or if fate will have it, stay here for the long term as your base to strike out to the rest of the world in your retirement 😄
One of the few videos that features how to travel affordably in SG! Many vlogs highlighted buying bottled water from convenience stores which cost a bomb as you have to pay a premium for convenience although reasonably priced supermarkets are easily available.
Check out Jalon Alor and Malaka in Malaysia. Takeshimaya and Isetan dept stores are nice Love Boat quay for bars and restaurants. Food quality is high. One of the best airports and airlines in the world.
Another great video. I think the fact that Singapore is so clean, it makes ppl that normally litter think twice about it. When they see garbage laying around, they think it's ok. It changes their mindset. Just my thoughts.
Thank you for loving our country. You can get ice coffee at less than $3 in coffee shops in the heartlands. Food is more expensive as compared to other SE Asia countries cos we need to import practically everything.
Thank you for your kind words for my homeland … enjoy your stay and hope to bump into you when you are in town… I will buy you a cup of local coffee 😂❤
You NAILED it! hahahah!!!! there's a few large underground shopping network that most vbloggers don't know about. These underground shopping network connects buildings and malls so that we don't have to walk on the surface under the heat and cross traffic lights. I was amazed I could walk underground from City Hall / Suntec City to Funan. 🤣
In San Francisco you can walk out of a 50 dollar lunch and try to avoid the homeless sitting in front, the needles and syringes discarded by the addicts on the pavement or the dog poops left behind by young hi tech workers living in fancy buildings by the Bay. You are so right. San Francisco is located in one of the most beautiful and picturesque locations on earth. Yet, for the past 35 yeats, I never go there at will. 🍁
I visited US a decade apart and my recent visit to Vegas is not pleasant! I really cannot wrap my head around how things go bad so quickly? Anyways, enjoy your stay in Singapore. One of the better hawker center near to the city center is Hong Lim Park. You can find lots of yummy food for lunch and breakfast there. If you can handle your spice, the curry chicken noodles is really good.
I missed Singapore...but I cannot go back to work there coz of my age 49..it's difficult to be approved to work anymore... That's to your video....now I can see Singapore..
Littering is a crime with severe punishments in Singapore while in San Francisco and Seattle, theft is not a crime unless its over $900 and littering is a sport. Huge difference in thinking.
Please let don’t let the American know so much as we save plenty from our defense budget and used it to build better infrastructure, schools and airport. Trump is right we don’t wanna pay our fair shares cause our Corp Tax is only 16% if they gonna hear and follow Trump we gonna lose lots of Jobs and work here as they will move there. Just keep to ourselves please!
Singapore is not clean because people don’t litter - nobody gets fined anyway - but because there are a lot of foreign workers employed as street cleaners
@@RetireandGo we were in Singapore on a layover during Christmas 2021 and we took a taxi down to the marina. I got out and left my phone in the taxi. I panicked because all my banking, credit cards, airline tickets and hotel reservations were in that phone. My daughter called my phone a dozen times hoping someone would pick it up and eventually the taxi driver did. Long story short, I got my phone back and the same taxi driver took us back to the airport and refused a tip. I don’t see that happening anywhere in the US!
Some might disagree, but I prefer Singapore over Malaysia. Feels closer to what I expect regarding standard of living as an American tourist traveling abroad.
You should do a video that highlights the cost of relocating every 30 days identifying typical flight costs and annual expenditures. Contrast the cost of constantly relocating vs obtaining visa and staying longer or permanently if possible.
I was curious about your observation about children. Singapore has one of the lowest fertility rates in Asia (0.9) and it is impacting their economy, and not in a good way. In my previous career I studied demographics with a view of how they affected a country's sport development/performance. Singapore, Japan, and South Korea always stood out in Asia as having a rapidly aging population. The effect on sport performance will take a while to manifest but the imbalance between retirees and contributors to social support programs will occur much sooner. As you pointed out however, Singapore usually 'gets it' and I'm curious to see how they address this.
I agree. I decided to "fact check" birth rate comment as well. According to World Bank data Singapore has a lower birth rate, and declining more quickly, than the US. As of 2022, 8 births per 1000 in Singapore, and 11 in the US (versus a world average of 17)
Thank you for compliments in our Urban planning, Our Urban Planning Authority is review every 10 years and the Big Concept plan is 100 years ahead. Next time, you can drop by our local housing estate and see how the locals are doing too , where the food are much cheaper and where it is not too tourist-sy
Singapore is a success story. It's out of my budget sadly. Safe, clean. efficient, good MRT, nice people. I stayed at a place round the corner from Raffles, it was called Waffles, a backpacker hostel.
Hi Chris, Singapore looks very clean , that aspect is one point I cannot overlook, I live exceptionally well and our property is clean, I dislike a dirty, grafitti trash filled environment it affects me . I appreciate the coverage of Singapore. If I visit a area and its filthy & unkept ,I wont enjoy my visit as much as a beautiful well maintained area. Leadership shows. I know zilch about Singapore but thats where you enter in, inspired by you I will follow Singapores journey closely. I dont miss any of your videos and we are looking for the best destinations, especially the cleanliness . I understand that you wont spend 30 days, nevertheless am sure interested . Sawadee krub. Welcome to Singapore. Please try some local dish like chicken rice, bah kut teh, laska, fishball noodles, Chwee kueh, etc Please visit/walk around Haw Par Villa, bukit timah hill, green rail corridor, MacRitchie Reservoir
One other thing about Singapore is the diversity. We have gotten a lot better over the years. To me, most times, I’m really blind to skin colours. We see each other the same (at least most of the time) 😊
Just there a few months ago. Same hotel and Indian restaurant on the corner. Great food, good price. I found Singapore quite a bit cheaper than the US. Was really surprised how much everything gone up in the mainland. Spent more on my three weeks back in the US then five months in S.E. Asia. Right now in India. Actually more expensive then S E asia

It's getting worse. Discounts in "punishment" for some serious cases.
Thank you and I also appreciated for all your positive and understanding attitude about Singapore island. I am glad to know you also been to Thailand in Bangkok too and I had also been there. I like to travel there too because there are quite the same similar trains system that they provide for BTS and subway mrt trains there too.
I agree
It’s a lovely place
Have a nice day :-)
Totally nailed it my friend!
So glad you didn’t hold back from making the obvious connections. It’s simply amazing how some US cities don’t understand the basics.

Dude listen, Singapore is by far the most racist place on Earth against anything that is not "Chinese race". They have the CMIO framework where the "Chinese race" get 85% of all visas. On accomodation they will mention "Chinese race owner" and they will ask "need to speak Chinese to liase with customers erc for jobs. They are extrimely racist and white are not welcomed. So happy you show us a reasonable price hotel, I was in Singapore during June, hotel price is very high, love the city very clean, evening I went to Lau Pa Sat Satay street, great atmosphere, try No 8 stall for best satay, cost me Singapore $14 for one person.

I paid over $100 for a room that was the size of a queen bed last time haha
I was happy to find this place

I dont think if the facts support this but I definitely felt like I saw many more kids outside in Singapore. Probably also because its so safe, parents have no issues letting their kids out

The local coffee is just amazing! Ya Kun Kaya Toast and Toast Box has one of the best local coffee shop chains across the island. It's also affordable compared to Starbucks or Coffee Bean where a simple cup of Latte could cost you SGD$9-12! Lol
Im a local here, and I cry every time I have colleagues who want to have coffee at Coffee Bean or Starbucks 😂
Oh interesting
I’ll have to try those
Great comment about what drives people to want to have kids. I couldn't agree more.

I agree with you!
It is not that expensive, if you live like locals and not like ‘expats’. If you don’t live in expensive condos, eat at expensive restaurants or shop at high end stores.
@@franceskueh5430 one of my main concerns is the cost of education for my child since we’re foreign nationals
@@franceskueh5430 true !
Glad to see you visiting diff country and bring us dif contents dos and don'ts. Cheers!!!

You can get cheaper coffee by buying from the local coffee shops. And having meals at hawker centres.

I understand
So many US cities are like this too
I’m American. Cheers.
Oh nice! You are beginning travel as well, that’s great!
Please keep us updated ok?
Corp tax in Singapore is about 17% and USA 25% so good luck to American if Democrats win. We will safe on our defense and build more better infrastructures and schools … Terminal 5🎉🎉🎉

Don't buy bottle water from 7 eleven. Just buy from a normal supermarket. In fact you don't have to. Singapore tap water is save to drink.
Good information!
Thank you
Check out Jalon Alor and Malaka in Malaysia.

In San Francisco you can walk out of a 50 dollar lunch and try to avoid the homeless sitting in front, the needles and syringes discarded by the addicts on the pavement or the dog poops left behind by young hi tech workers living in fancy buildings by the Bay.

Littering is a crime with severe punishments in Singapore while in San Francisco and Seattle, theft is not a crime unless its over $900 and littering is a sport. Huge difference in thinking.
True! I’ll take Singapore :-)

You should do a video that highlights the cost of relocating every 30 days identifying typical flight costs and annual expenditures. Contrast the cost of constantly relocating vs obtaining visa and staying longer or permanently if possible.
Good point! This is a good idea

it is cheaper then living in the shithole named Europe and much much safer
As of 2022, 8 births per 1000 in Singapore, and 11 in the US (versus a world average of 17)
They import chinese nationals as back up

One other thing about Singapore is the diversity. We have gotten a lot better over the years. To me, most times, I’m really blind to skin colours. We see each other the same (at least most of the time) 😊

Just there a few months ago. Same hotel and Indian restaurant on the corner. Great food, good price. I found Singapore quite a bit cheaper than the US.
