    Anyone who hasn't read Sam's plays or stories, I urge you to do so. You'll get a lot of pleasure out of it - an incredible writer.

      He had everything, everything , so devastatingly handsome, tall , a smile that would make all the stormy clouds go away, an intellectual, a Pulitzer Prize playwright , yes he had it all, except time will never forget you Sam Shepherd and that glorious smile..RIP.

    He should have been the lead in Bridges of Madison county. The whole time I read that book I had him in mind.

    We saw him several times in the audiences of his Broadway plays, he would sit alone at the back, many in the audiences knew the cool guy was there but there were no long stares, we deeply appreciated knowing he was there.

    He will be sorely missed. He was the type of actor who did it so well that he made it look easy and effortless! That is the way good actors apply their skills to the screen. I think he was wrongly overlooked by many and especially the awards’ executives and members. But I don’t think he missed that a lot! He just enjoyed doing what he loved. God bless you Sam.

    I remember first seeing him in "Days of Heaven" as the soft spoken farmer. I fell in love with him in that. So handsome and thoughtful... RIP:(

      Oh I LOVED him as The Farmer. Just so decent, pure, masculine, and GORGEOUS. Never in a million years would I have picked Bill, the character played by Richard Gere. You KNOW Sam Shepard was gorgeous when you didn't even look at Gere!

    Great moment! Anyone remember him in "Crimes Of The Heart"? Jessica Lange and Sam dancing and getting drunk from dusk to dawn? Another terrific movie and performance.

    Met him once with Jessica at a Bluegrass Festival in upstate NY probably around 2005 or so... I just said a quick hello and tried to let them have some privacy, seemed like they were enjoying themselves..
    He was a great actor, RIP

    Steel Magnolias is a superb movie. Always reduces me to floods of tears though. Not for the faint hearted.

    For me SS was the ultimate male person (pardon my political slang): both strong and vulnerable, madly intelligent, capable of love and other addictions, creative AND beautiful - because "handsome" somehow doesn't seem enough to describe him... He showed it all playing his perfect cameo in Pelican Brief.

    It's one of my favorites too. Even before I really appreciated Sam Shepard, I loved this scene. He made an impact on me before I even knew what was happening. Funny thing he was good at, I guess. :)

    His character was an overlooked one in this and not once Ouiser mentioned or despised. He’s annoyed at her in the beginning with dyed eggs, she comes home after a good time on the town and he’s along smoking and sitting in front of the TV, then at the end he stops being a lazy husband and comes with her to the funeral.

      Sometimes he looked like a young Denis Leary, but Sam was so much more handsome. Sam had a chameleon quality about him and could look different depending on the character he played.
