Beautiful work sir, and a wonderful way you interact and comentry. You're humble and have a very soothing voice. Keep up the awesome work, we really do appreciate it. I'm a self taught super realist oil painter myself. I just love watching you work. ❤👍
Now I just found out your from texas too, cool beans. I just met a painter a while back named William Smith thats from George West, Texas. He paints well also. And at about 9:55, we all them dagger bushes but i think the proper name is yucca. Such a blessing. :)
Hi Christine! You can see how I balance my mahl stick in this video: ruclips.net/video/ynAL5qb_UJQ/видео.htmlsi=qRohu7cyuL8upntp Fast forward to about 2 1/2 minutes into the video and you'll see my bigger mahl stick that I use with my big easel. It's really about giving your hand and arm something steady to rest against when you're painting those details. Whether you're working big or small. :)

Thanks Layne. Beautiful lesson.
Hey Rhonda! 👋 Thanks very much!
Hi, How did you paint the grass textures? I have trouble with getting the detail that you have in the grasses. Thank you.
Same problem here! And it was the only thing he didn’t go much in detail with :(
Loved this! 🎉🎉
I wonder how long it does take to finish such a masterpiece. Of course, I've no painting background, but I like to watch paintings a lot.
For this size painting it typically takes me about 4 weeks. But it all depends on the subject, size, etc.

There's so many types of cacti and succulents across this area! And so many "local" names for things. :)
Princeton catalyst series are superb
I think so!
🤗 Thank you!
You’re welcome!
Thank you Layne! Can you share how you use your mahl stick for adding detail? How you balance it on the easel?

@@LayneJohnsonStudio Thank you Layne! You are the best! My husband made a mahl stick for me but your idea of having a hook at the end is genius.
What brushes did you use for the grass
Hey Layne, I really enjoy your videos. Where do you find your photos that you reference off of?
Thanks! I take lots and lots of photos!
Thank You Layne!
Did You paint fog in mountains wet on wet, or wet on dry?
I paint in layers, so wet-on-dry (most of the time). 👍
I think you are Princeton brushes fan...not Rosemary..
Yep.
