Waaaait I have never heard anyone say "don't shower right before" but this makes so much sense.
thank you so soo much for sharing some of the knowledge you have aquired through your career cuz this one video is all i needed reallyt to understand what to not do thanks
Very educational! Good job and thanks for the tips.
I just wanted to comment this for other ppl who are nervous to self tan. I just did it for the first time last night. I showered right before, exfoliated with an exfoliating mitt and body wash, then shaved and let cold water run on my body to try and close my pores. Then I lotioned and started the process. I’m naturally fairly light in colour but I do tan easily. My skin type is dry. I used the loving tan platinum which is the darkest shade. It worked out perfectly. I think just while ur doing it make it fun, don’t get too nervous just have fun with it and if u naturally feel like ur skin is usually dry then apply a generous amount of lotion prior to applying. I applied lotion all over my body but by the time I started applying the tanner I already felt like that moisture had been sucked into my skin so when I got to my arms I applied more lotion right before applying the tanner and my arms look beautifully smooth and tanned. *Also, if the tanner u use tells u to wash it off ur hands after 30 min listen lol…I didn’t lmao but it’s not that bad. It will come off…anyways, don’t be nervous just enjoy the process as well as the learning process :)
*Edit: actually….once I went outside I was 100% a pumpkin. Looked good in my house…this girl is right about if u have fair skin then any dark dark tanners will turn orange 🍊 I’d listen to her lol and just get a medium. I’m sticking to the sun bed (only way I get a nice natural dark tan)
Thanks for your comment. I'm still trying to master this process. I did everything right and then I looked at my legs a day or 2 later and you could see the tan had settled into the poor. I was do mad because I did everything right. 🤷🏼♀️
Yeah i feel that this girl is wayy over exaggerating with the dont do this dont do that before hand. Trust me its gonna be fine when you shower, put on lotion and all that stuff before you tan. She pretty much discourages people to try this with all these steps. Its not that deep and its not rocket science. Youre perfectly fine. Is the tan gonna be way better when you do all those things? Absolutely. Is it gonna ruin it if you dont? Absolutely not. Its pretty much impossible top shower 24 hours before you put on the self tanner because the next day would have already started and people go to the gym or have to shower before work. Its not practical for the every day person who has a life.
me right after showering with dove soap😔
This was very helpful. Thank you!
QUESTION: So ANY Hempz lotion?? There are multiple kinds/variations
First off......
THANK YOU for providing so much information. Having a husband with Stage 4 Melanoma is an eye-opener and a deterrent for being in the sun in any way shape or form.
I'm sure you have addressed this in your other videos but 2 questions:
- body wash?
-body lotion?
**If what you suggest is not available what ingredients should be avoided in those two products?
Thank you so much!
She mentions the soap and lotion she recommends at 6:52 and her explanation for what to avoid and why starts at 6:11
She basically said all body soaps leave traces behind that’ll make your self tan streaky. She only recommends Dr bronners unscented soap.
If you're exfoliating & showering 24hrs prior to self tanning why does it matter if you use a body scrub? Especially since we usually do a body scrub & then shower washing off any oils.
Thx girl! I always used Lotionen but now i have a bottle of foam in front of me and it is clear. Do you have a video how to put this on or are there the same rules? Thanks ❤❤
Hi, how can I self tan and have an even tone, when I have KP.
Is Johnson’s skin nourish moisture wash okay to use I have VERY sensitive skin it is the only body wash I have found that doesn’t break me out
Hi im a first time tanner and im going on vacatons to cancun. Shoul I self tan or not?
How can i not have dark knees when i self tan?
I do this but end up with orange eyebrows?
Dr. Bonners says on the bottle that the 2nd ingredient is coconut oil amongst many other oils. This won’t create a barrier?
What about exfoliating with Salicylic acid instead?
What about swimming in a regular pool a day or two after using the self tanner?
I’ve seen people recommend the first aid beauty kp scrub? Is there a reason I shouldn’t use this? I don’t believe that contains oils.
So no exfoliating at all? Even after a few days?
how do you tan your back?
Can I just use coconut oil over my body- as it's natural?
how do you exfoliate your back?
Great video, thanks so much! I am confused by one thing though. You mentioned that we should avoid body soaps and lotions that contain oils, but then you recommended Dr. Bonner's unscented products which are made up of oils, almost exclusively. Can you comment on that? I think others were also confused. Thanks!
I have been puzzled by this same thing!?!
My armpits stay really dark after I try to exfoliate my spray tan off. I get sprayed again soon for my wedding but i don’t want dark armpits for my wedding day! How can i fix this? Also after my appointment i had super dark hands. But i wash my hands often for work so it faded more quickly, but how do i stop this from the root?
Hi, so as a spray tan artist I don't spray the armpits. Is your spray tan artist using lotion on your hands beforehand? I would do a trial with a new spray tan artist or you can apply lotion to your hands and have the spray tan artist step back and have your hands lower when she spray tans you.

I think a good analogy would be that scrubs : sanding :: mitt : polishing
The surface area isn’t having the grit distributed properly, so it’s going to be more streaky by default.
I have exclusively used Dove soap for my entire life, and I've never been able to achieve a non streaky self-tan, so I'm hoping that's why, and I'm actually a pro being held back by my soap. 😂
What do you do if you cant stop your armpits from sweating... just use a brush to reapply the next day maybe? Also, I wish I watched this before buying ultra dark.... I am sitting in loving tan ultra dark as I type this... Lastly does a streaky color guard mean that the tan will be streaky? No matter what I do I can't get it even and the more I tried to blend the color would wipe itself off. So I just had to settle for patchy and see what happens in the morning...
i use loving tan platinum and im a natural SUPER pale ginger lol. i love the results it gives me. i can tag u in another video i j watched that shows a different brand on a girl with a similar skin tone to me and she does ultra dark and it looks amazing on her. and it gives amazing tips. some of the points this girl is making just doesnt apply to every scenario or every person.
@@wolniky3158I’m also a really pale ginger and just bought the jergens and also the tanoligist tan drops that you mix with lotion.. and I’m feeling so intimidated with it I m about to just say screw it lol and not do it. 😔😞
That's what I was wondering I try to get it buffed in really well if it is streaky somewhat on the skin will it still be streaky after you wash it off using st Tropez
Do i put lotion on my entire body if my hole body is dry right before I apply the self tan ? Or is it just on the hands feet only?
No, If you put moisturiser on your body the tan won’t even soak in
How about mature skin tips. Plus why do I get skin tags from self tanners?
Yes watch this video: ruclips.net/video/3cJzDomnFRE/видео.html and why do you think it’s from the self tanners?
What is the soap you are referring to? Dr.?
amzn.to/3Htf7fE
full honesty, i used black hair dye that had sit open on my counter for months. i used it bc i thought that it wouldnt dye me too bad but like it worked, but i wont do it again bc like its just weird
Do I need to be careful with what color towels I use after showering (with the sunless rae tanner specifically)?
No, everything will wash out too if it gets on like a white towel for example :)
Wow a lot of info I never knew about lol. I have been using jergens glow for years now, I know it’s not the best one, just the one I’ve always used.
When I tan my face, specifically the forehead and temple, How can I avoid it getting in the edge of my hair and beard/stubble? I’ve always had a problem of it getting on my hair and being orange or having a dumb looking line where it’s tanned and white😔😔
I use jergens as well and absolutely love it!
so are you saying that oil in soaps/bodywashes messes with your self tan while recommending Dr Bronners? Have you had a look at Dr Bronners unscented soap? It contains coconut oil, palm kernel oil, organic olive oil*,hemp oil, Organic jojoba oil.....
I'm confused by this too.
Do you add self tan to your ears?
yes but not inside your earhole
@@defnotlani lol!

I’m glad I came across this video as I have to worst self tan and did so many “right” things from other videos and it’s just terrible. Will remove this and start with your suggestions.
