- The Romantic Road or Romantische Strasse starts in the city of Würzburg in northern Bavaria & finishes at Berchtesgaden in Germany's southeast corner.
At the end of the Alpine road lies the vast glacial Lake Konigsee.
A must do bucket list motorcycle ride! We ride the BMW R1250 GS.
Definitely stop off at Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
The 1st half of this motorcycling route lends itself more to nice medieval towns & sightseeing. The 2nd half is more fun with better exciting roads to ride.
Approximately 600km & suggested time of 2-3 days.
There are tourist signs showing the 'Romantische Straße' along the way but be sure to have the route on your Sat-Nav as the signs only pop up occasionally.
(Be prepared for some road closures & plotting an alternative route yourself.)
Best time to motorcycle tour May-October. Ride in October & join the Oktoberfest celebrations at towns & villages along the route.
N.B. a lot of Germany's gasthaus or gasthofs are still closd post covid, we did'nt book ahead & found finding somewhere to stay awkward at times.

Nice video, but in fact the Romantic Road ends in Füssen, then you drove the German Alpine Road (Deutsche Alpenstrasse) to the Königssee by Berchtesgaden. So two roads for one, so to say. 😁
