Hope gopro will respond to dji with a new session or something that has the same form factor
This is the way
I rather hope Runcam or Caddx improve their Session style cameras so that we can have decent colors and robustness for a price that lets you fly without constant fear of losing vast amounts of money.
Lol me too! They are missing the mark , where DJI is actually paying attention. So , I hope GoPro comes out with a session 5 "2" , you know they can!
@@Gosuminer There are Best buy warranties and Dji refresh. You don't lose the entire cost of the camera, unless flying without the service plan. Every pilot who crashes (which is everyone) should also know that things will need to be replaced, just like when you replace arms.
Would be awesome!!!!
With that super wide FOV and lighter weight, I'm so tempted to get the Action 2 just so I could mount it on my DJI FPV!
I need one, This is the camera FPV has been waiting for. Needs a removable battery or a way to hook up to our quads power.
So wire up a plug?
maybe you can doa "naked" action 2 and get to the poer lines un the circuit
If you are willing to try your luck, you could probably convert the power of the quad to a different voltage and just solder wires up to the contact pads on the main unit...
Maybe they'll follow like the caddx peanut. I wonder how long the transfer if data between camera and sd card.
@@jarredgallaher2643 Would void the warranty I could imagine
If the camera is identified as a regular ol’ external USB drive when connected to a computer then it should be super simple to put a Raspberry Pi in a little 3D printed USB dock to dump the files off the main camera module while in the field. And you could make it a one-touch file dump, no screen required, by assigning a small hardware button on the dock to run a script on the RPI. Something like: Power On RPI, mount external USB drive, select all files on external drive, copy selection to RPI’s microSD, select all files on external drive again, delete selection, eject external drive, Power Off RPI.
I doubt it'll turn up as an external drive. Pretty much all modern Android devices use MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) and probably that's what this one uses - assuming you don't actually need a proprietary app from DJI just to download files, which let's face it - this is DJI - it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case.
@@Vousie most current DJI cams mounts as a regular USB drive, I hope this one will too. Got mine today and will check it
@@Q3D2 did it show up as an external drive?
@@archer9338 yes. As 2 external drives - one for internal memory and the second for mSD.
So nice to see you 3 together presenting my next fpv cam.
Excellent video guys. Very informative and from an FPV perspective. I’m rocking a Session 5 and pray I never kill it due to it being discontinued. This seems the perfect replacement and shedding weight is always a bonus.
that's the review I was waiting for! great guys! stay flyin' \m/
Glad you guys got your own channels but still put on for the RR team. You all got me paying attention to FPV and you gotta keep pushing together so we can follow the best.
This is amazing - multiple cameras totally makes sense for FPV, as not only do you get quick battery swap, quick storage swap, but if you bust a lens, you get quick lens swap!
Okay Moneybags LoL
@@ugpfpv361 They literally just showed a table with like, 200 GoPro sessions on it - it's certainly out of my budget, but for pro teams like this, it's perfect :P
Really excited about this. We need the session form factor back
Yep! That click sound it makes with its magnets, satisfying!!! Can’t wait to get my hands on the Action 2.
RR are such DJI Simps and i love it :)
im glad you guys put this stuff out there so fast!
I have been waiting for this. I knew you guys would do a video.....Lucky you have had it!
Seems worth the downsides, the weight is perfect for using on some of the smaller styles of drones like the ultra light long range, cinewhoops, and toothpicks. Wasn't sure if losing realsteady would be worth it but after seeing the stabilization I'd have to say that unless you have a specific requirement for using realsteady, that the stabilization in the camera is on point and will work just as well for most shots. Definitely going to pick one up at some point.
it has reelsteady
Hello from Canada! Great video guys!! Great thought there about a future firmware enabling you to transfer your data directly to a Micro SD card in the base with the larger battery. Since it's newly released today, I have not yet looked into if you can recharge from the base unit to the camera in the field. The only possible negatives I see so far is the height of the camera on the base and a replaceable lens perhaps? Time will tell. Keep 'em coming guys. Take care!!
Lol okay, you made me laugh out loud hard with the TikTok comment.... And I'm in a library!
I'm very excited and thinking of picking one up. Thanks boys!
Great review on the OA2 guys killer footage . Yes getting one 🤘🏻
One of the most fun reviews! Months later and we are finally getting a new accessory for the Action 2 which is the magnetic protective case. Good news for me!!!
I wonder how easy it would be to make an adapter to charge the camera off the quads lipo, like the Caddx peanut. Could be a great way to get more than 30 min out of it and if two of those pins on the bottom are 5V and ground it wouldn't be to hard .
still only 28gb....
@@FreshPanda97 think it's 22 after formatting and whatever software the camera is running.... Could be wrong. Either way that's a big bumski
@@mouseFPV I think it's manageable for instance I usually get around 5 to 6 minutes of flight time per pack so when I bring the quad back to swap batteries I would just transfer the footage to the extended battery micro SD card slot each time and that may have the potential to save my footage if something was to happen to the camera in a future flight I would stil have all my previous flights footage
@@mouseFPV Wait, even 22 GB is a lot - just how big are those video files?
@@Vousie big. Most video settings are about 1gb per minute. Some more and some less. That's like 15-45 minutes depending on quality settings and amount of light and lots of other stuff. For fpv its maybe 5 flights of recording.
i demand a beebop mode with my rocksteady.
Awesome, looking forward to see more footages and decide about GP10 or Action 2
Thorough review; not a bad cam! Horizon lock very impressive.
Very cool seeing a small camera for us since the session died. But no expandable memory in the main unit is a fail and an all aluminum body means it will get destroyed in a crash. So this will be good for cinematic, not so much for freestyle.
Looking forward to v2
This is version 2 🤣🤣, you mean 3
Aluminum should be ok, personally I would expect it to be as good as a plastic case
Yeah I don't think this was meant for us...
Man I like to try that one out, the footage looks so good. Love the videos keep it up👍🏻
Drew you can off load the footage to base units SD whilst recharging, no laptop required.
This review is awesome!!! Hope you can do another one but this time with the magnetic protective case. Curious how it can improve the Action 2’s performance. Cheers!
Awesome footage. Did you guys have any issues with overheating while using 4K? That's been one of the biggest complaints I've read about. Thanks for the review.
I saw another video where the reveiwer mentioned that you can transfer the data from the main unit to the battery pack(with or without screen) memory card.
Footage looks phenomenal. Amazing stabilization!
Would be awesome if they were able to integrate a start stop and also charging.
The caddx peanut can do this and it’s similar to the go2.
impressive but I can sometimes see jello due to the digital stabilisation. No lens replacement.. It looks promising but still cant keep up with realsteady and a gopro.
Lens is really important👍🏼
Do you have a feeling on how fast to dump a full camera to a laptop in the field? Is it going to be waiting forever to recharge and dump/format the memory?
same question! my go2 needs alot battery just to transfer 1 or 2 videos to my phone and after that i need wait another good 20 minutes just to have it charged up around 50% for next flight
depeds on your HD and computer
@@cloudpandarism2627 well you would transfer it with cable and therefor it would be charging while transfering also its 32gigs so i would say it takes about 5minutes at 300mb/s? i think its gonna be faster then that for sure tho. but just transferring to the sd card module would be alot more convenient
I only know this through second party. Go Pro is on to a unit (two-versions) which surpasses this DJI unit. How far can they go?
Sick video love the dezerland rips
Best review out there. Thanks so much!
Can transfer from the camera to the add on box (with card) now-which is awesome...my only concern is, when you have a bad crash & ruin that camera, you won't be able to pull your internal footage then. I'm loving it tho!
Finally something good to use the DJI copilot for 👍
@rotor riot according to Billy Kyle’s review, the footage can be swiped across to the battery extension/SD card module, but your review says it can’t be done - can you check if that’s the case or not? In his video he finger swiped the footage across to offload it from the camera modules internal storage onto the card, which seems pretty damn cool
That form factor is perfect. I hope the internal lens module can take a hit better than the Osmo Action.
Surely someone will make some sort of extension adaptor to allow you to relocate the add-on battery, even its if just behind it so its more session like :P
footage looks really good :) maybe someone can make a T-bracket with connectors to mount the two units back-to-back ?
I don't remember what it was called, but there was a project a while back wherein blackbox logs could be used for gyro data so any camera (including DVR) could be used in reelsteady. I only played with it once, but it was a cool concept. I don't see why it wouldn't work for this use case.
Gyroflow?
My question is. Are the magnets on the camera or the other part? I just know as soon as it hits the ground all sorts of metal bits and iron in sand will immediately jam up inside it and it's not easy to get it out.
nice. how you handle jello? my dji cam is on way to me and arrive tomorrow
I think I'm sold. That footage looks beautiful
excellent review! what is missing is a very small adapter for power with a msd slot and without battery, we can use the drone battery. maybe dji make one or the accessory industrie.
Does it have the ability to connect to the DJI mimo app and dump footage that way…. While still retaining full quality?
Yes! I just got one and the wireless footage transfer works quite well! Doesn't take too long either.
for the cam only,
isn't there any option to ''glue'' in new Lensens ?
and does it overheat after long time 4k 120 ?
how fast is the data transfer rate on usb 3 to normal ssd ?
how much gb it use on 4k 60 4k 120 and 1080 240 ?
does is do h264 ? because h265 is for most people to heavy on the pc to edit.
and charging time (cam alone )?
grz
Maybe a stick on tempered glass front and back and a tpu case might give it slightly more protection
My exact thoughts. Even adding an extra 20 grams of protection will still result in saving 80 grams while maybe letting it survive a hard crash.
Dude it looks soooooo good. Man cricket has really come into his own since I left, he is fkn killing it out there bro. Those moves were killer
with the battery module can you transfer the footage to that SD card and charge the main module?
"Ohh that looks really gooood" watching on the small screen
That TikTok blurb was hilarious. Thanks for the video. Keep sending brothas!
How about a magnetic base, with pogo pins for power from the lipo balance lead?
cable for the add on module? then you can place it anywhere and only remove that to charge/transfer files
How fast does it transfer 22GB from camera to SD card? Also how long can it be recorded in 4k120fps?
Great guys. How is the audio on fpv?
You can tell the camera reacts to light a lot faster very smooth too I want one, the fact that it’s 100g lighter is a game changer
that flying... wow!
What kinda bitrate do you guys encode/upload at? Your vids always look so crisp!
13:13
Yooooooo Cricket 🦗 back at it again with that reverse 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Wait please tell me how you have that magnetic clip mount for the action 2 on the front of your quad?! Or was it just sitting there? It looks solid..
oh I hope they do! Love my session 5's.
I think is a good camera for FPV and a good replacement for the Session 5.
Not looking forward that much to get one, because of the price, but if I had to get a new camera, this would be first on my list.
nice recognize this small camera. Thank you. I'm still thinking what to choose GOPRO or DJI, but I think DJI acc to low weight is better sollution.
Thanks!
about the formfactor and the limited time to record/having to conect it to a laptop. you have reviewed a stiped down gopro, or atleast i have seen some on your channel. so what about the idea to strip the "bateryback". so you have the conecktor on the cam and whith extended whires or somethin the baterypack at like the end of the drone or somwhere. so mor battery and the ability to plug in a SD card?
Finally taking on the niche left by the GoPro Session, DJI take all my monies!
What are you using to keep the magnetic nd filters on, they come off easily?
Nice. But how fast 30min file transfers to sd adapter? Same question for wireless transfer to android gadjet...
What about the video profile settings?
Is there a flat profile? or shutter and iso settings?
There’s D-Cinelike for sure. 👍
You have alle the manual exposure controls. More than on a GoPro and you have a flat profile, yes.
I really love Cricket's flight style. My only problem with it is the camera angle is so flat the props come into view. Not a deal breaker, though.
Great Vid Bois! I was about to pull the trigger but u helped seal the deal. Coming from the G8...This is the way ;)
I'm digging your custom cinewhoop print. Lighter weight?
What would be really cool is that when you put on the battery and SD card module the camera charges the internal battery from the battery module and while it does that dumps all the footage from the I thermal storage onto the SD card in the slot. Would make it bloody perfect, must be achievable through a firmware update surely?
It does with the public firmware. These guys just didn’t do their research :(
@@LeCheers really? Wow, that really makes it a great option. Cheers
@@chris-jones yeah, check out some of the more thorough reviews. Peter McKinnon’s is pretty detailed:) it’s pretty much perfect for fpv :)
make a video of the best drones to use for the new dji action 2 and compare it to some of DJIs drones. im debating on buying this camera and the mavic air 2s or some fair priced fpv drone and use it with the action 2
is that jello at 14.22 or the rocksteady trying to correct something?
Any thoughts on getting this Action 2 versus BetaFPV SMO 4K Camera? SMO is cheaper but I’m concerned re quality/robustness/30 days warranty for the SMO…. So may be worth paying a bit more for an Action 2 with care pack?
9:52, did you guys grade the footage of the DJI or was that an overlapping adjustment layer......?
I Like that they give you their best stabilization out of the box seems like Gopro trying to tax us at every turn. with Gopro you have to buy the camera 4-5 bills depending which one another bill for the wide angle lens and yet another for rs and its a brick. You got to give DJI credit for thinking about the FPV community ❤
If we see the effectivity of the heat-resistant case that DJI is launching, then I'd definitely go for the Action 2.
You guys just keep me motivated. God's speed!
can you dump footage onto the sd card using the attachment?
U can make custom flat pinhead PDB that will lay beneath camera and it will regulate Voltage from Lipo to whatever Volts that camera require to charge,it is a simple modification so that you don't have to carry stock power bank or display to charge the camera while flying.Just like Install did with Insta One R naked u can make slip on magnetic voltage regulator with pins that hook directly on camera,or solder + and - directly on camera pins and took a votage from FC if camera operates on 5V.....
Hmm...at first I was excited for this system over my Insta360 OneR which I have used for FPV and enjoy it a lot. This came out and I thought "hmm...maybe I picked the wrong horse" except there is one big flaw for FPV and one shortcoming in terms of "overall" capability compared to the OneR modular system that one might desire:
The biggest flaw I see is the battery situation. Other action camera systems you just swap out, with this one depending on the charge time you will have to wait once you drain the battery before getting back out to the next flight.
The other shortcoming would be that this modular system doesn't actually modularize the lenses. If you break this lens, you're buying a new camera not just a new lens part. Also, there isn't an option for a "better" lens or a different functioning lens -- so no 360 option, and no higher quality lens option, or anything else any one may find useful later.
Of course, if the smaller form factor is really what you need as the number 1 priority, then unquestionably this is the best offering I can see from a mile away. 30 minutes and 64GB of onboard storage is a solid amount of room to work with mostly in the storage department and other reviews have mentioned that DJI will have a firmware update that'll transfer the 64GB onto an SD card automatically when connected to a mod. My last bit of curiosity (and hopefully not something DJI missed) is can ND filters be used on it? Footage comes out a lot better with the proper shutter speed : framerate ratio of 2:1.
Been looking for this video
I understand that it has an over heating problem and is prone to shutting off after 5 mins or so if used on the high setting. Is this correct?
For FPV it seems a bit stupid to put the connector on the bottom. That makes it unavailable while in a TPU camera mount.
Connector should have been placed on one side and rec button should have been put on the other so that the TPU could fit snuggly without obscuring them.
32gb is a little small. When you connect the addon. Can you move video to the MicroSD directly in the camera without a PC. That could be usefull to free the internal memory and use the battery /screen for downloading the footage
yes you can, or download to phone via wifi
Isn't it possible to copy the videos from the internal memory to the SD card/battery module?
Awesome piece
How heavy is the camera + battery/SD module? Still lighter than a GoPro? If so, it shouldn't be too hard for someone to come up with a cable to link the two, rather than stack them. If something like that was available and you had the space to mount it all, it'd be a winner for sure.
Is there anyway you can compare it with 360 go 2?
Looks like a cool camera!
Nice flying guys
Thanks for the review but looking like *ReelSteady Go* is still the stabilization KING! Will stick with my GoPro10 Black (for now at least). Already own the GoPro10 (and 9) so doesn't look like I'll be running out to buy the DJI Action 2 (at least not yet). Maybe a few more firmware updates will convince me otherwise.
Yeah not to mention its fov actually looks kind of weird, but maybe if you run it through Gyroflow...
Awesome, but why not having the accessories attached to the back rather than to the side ? 🤔
Girth is a thing I guess 🤣🤣
Because bloggers recording themselves are more important, apparently
Adding a second screen whilst covering up the first screen or lens might not be a good plan :P
@@Marc-io6pv So why not having just the lens and a screen module in the back ?
@@WavyHertZFPV Well that's what they've made. Do you mean but with removable battery and SD like the session... Yeah but they're trying to be original I guess.
I think if you can transfer in the field to a second card via the addons it's then quite good to make the main unit as small as possible.
Sound check? Flat color profile available? Otherwise, great to see :-)
Awesome but I don't think I'll be replacing my insta360 go 2 with this anytime soon. There some quirkiness with the stabilization while flying and lack of replaceable filter mount makes this questionable as an action camera. Having had to replace the go 2 filter/guard a few times already, yes I'm a newb, I really appreciate this feature.
There are snap on macro lenses for it, so I expect it won't take long for someone or dji to adapt that to snap on nd filters
@@nic.h snap on is the key, odd it didn't come with a lens guard in general
I can’t believe it doesn’t charge and transfer data to SD when you attach the module. Awesome review though 👍
It does charge the camera the moment you connect a module. But I also hope for a transfer mode!
