Hola Lydia te veo desde Argentina , por qué no lo traduces , porfa ❤️
Before I knew you were around and became a big fan I purchased some tools off of Amazon dotting tools do you think I could still use those with your videos?
Lydia (is my sister-in-law and I love her!) Your work is the best that I saw here !!!! I bought materials to start paint mandalas in bottles. God bless you! You are so special!!!! ♡
Hi Lydia! I'm a 60 year old lady trying this for the first time! Thank you so much for your insights and guidance. With arthritis biting my old knuckles, it's so great to be able to find a use for my old plastic crochet hooks!!!! I'll start watching the others!
I am 70 and still learning…and I love it!
Please more beginner videos for dummies !! Love that you explain what your doing and not just doing it.
I am working on it! :)
Thank you I like it very much
@@Manoussa100 Me too!
Hey Lydia! This is a great tutorial for someone just starting. I love how detailed you are. When I first started dotting canvases, I just picked up on tips little by little with various IG and FB posts. No tutorials. I'm a seat-of-the-pants kinda gal. 😀 But I love this. Thank you!
Thank you for the tutorial. I do Acrylic Pouring, have been for a year, learned after serious open heart surgery. But 200 paintings later and I’m ready to try something new in addition to my Pouring where I don’t need my huge work tables , get paint on me from head to toe, and can sit and do this wherever I want and just let my stressed mind wander and meditate. I’m also thinking it will be less expensive and I’m on SSI disability so I’m just broke every month! I have saved this beginner tutorial and will save future ones. Wish me luck. Thank you. Hugs, Rose 🌹
One of the best tips that worked for me was to watch Lydia’s tutorials on RUclips over and over again! She has tutorials for all skill levels and I learned so much before I ever put down a dot! ❤️
I absolutely agree with everything you said about how meditative and relaxing this art is. That's why I use it in my reiki practice.
Thank you Lydia, this looks so relaxing, I can’t wait to try this
Thank You for sharing not only your gift but your experienced-knowledge. Even though I am very anxious to begin, financially , while utilizing coupons, it will take me a while to acquire tools and supplies for dot Mandelas.
About five years ago, I became familiar with Mandelas via an app, and designed many electronically. Thus my logo connected to my name. This caused me to research the historic background, especially sand-Mandelas and the religious significance. I believe I am also attracted to Mandelas because of the geometry, which was my favorite math-subject to teach.
I imagine the creation process can be very meditative. Since I retired, I’ve picked up the needlecraft “crocheting” again. I also have discovered that I am attracted to it because it too can be, depending on the chosen pattern, meditative and relaxing. I think that is why I have become interested in attempting dot-Mandelas.
My inspired-quest will certainty be a result of your instructive videos. Another example of the wonder of technology.
Thanks so much, Lydia!!! I ran across your video while I was trying to find a mindfulness/ meditation practice to ground me. Going to try my first one today!
I have just started a journey doing Australian Aboriginal inspired dot paintings and I have found your tutorials to be of great benefit. Please keep producing them. They are a really valuable aid.
Thanks so much. Learned a lot and appreciate the encouragement to not expect perfection...
I’m so excited to try this . I have always shyed away from the mandala coloring books, while beautiful, l just thought they were too detailed to tackle without stress which l DID’NT want. This breaks it down so simply that l might even try the coloring books. Thanks for the informative tutorial & definitely would love to see more. I’m ordering some tools tonight. Big Hugs.🤗🤗👏👍
I am going to try this one....Just need to get the tools.
Love it.
I have been for crafting for many years but I've never really looked into dotting but I believe that I would really enjoy doing this I'll get all the stuff together that I'm going to need and start doing it I'll let you know how works out for me ,Great video thank you oh and I to love your little Pablo
Thank you! Very Inspirational Information! Looking forward to getting started. 😊
Excellent tutorial! You did fantastic job of making one feel comfortable when starting out. Your style of instructing is one of the BEST I've seen. Thank you!
You are such a kind person and have such a gift when it comes to teaching others. I've wanted to try this for some time now and found your video tonight. I wasn't meaning to get inspired during a pandemic, but cleaning out the garage yesterday, I found my paints, so Yay! I'm going to give it a try. Best tutorial ever!
There is a website called design seeds that gives color combo inspiration.
Thanks! Guess I should start on card stock or canvas. But I've started on rocks, not perfectly round either... Kinda hard lol. But this was great!!
Excellent help for a beginner which is me. Thank you so much. Would love to see more like this.
Awesome tutorial. Just getting started..thanks.
Lowes is a great place to pick up color swatches and color combos
This is exactly what I needed! I’m brand new to the art form and I needed all the details you explained so well. Thank you. I’ll look for your other beginner videos. Really appreciate it!
Hi Lydia! Thank you so much. You make it very easy to follow and learn. Like the other lady said her age. I am 62 and retired and wanted a new hobby! This is my second day dot painting!! You are sure helpful. 🙂
You are so welcome!
I have watched your tutorial several times while walking on my treadmill (multi-tasking). This is awesome. I am ready to buy tools and paints and dive in! Thank you so much. As a former tole painter, I know this will be my new passion!
WHAT A GREAT TUTORIAL FOR BEGINNERS!!!!!
BLESS YOU! Would love to try and do this with my 9 year old niece.
Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Can you do this other surfaces?
Thank you SO much for doing your videos! I’ve always loved this technique and wanted to try it - I recently joined a rock-painting group here in my town and wanted to try dot mandala painting on them...thanks to your videos, and some practice on cardstock, I’m starting to make some super cute rocks for hiding around our town and they’re really popular with the people who are finding them ☺️ It’s super relaxing for me, and is making people smile & brightening their days...win-win!! 🙌👍
Lydia,
Please keep on making these tutorial for us, beginners!
Thanks in advance!
You were right to call it a color swatch! When they're all hooked together it's called a fan deck.
I love how you tell us not to be so hard on ourselves, maybe give yourself that same honor? ;)
Lydia you are a excellent teacher. I watched your tutorials and I love how you made it understandable. Im thinking about doing dot painting. And I love your work. :)
Really beautiful. Those bright colors just make me happy.
Just getting started with dotting so this was super helpful in showing the basics. Thanks !
thank you for this tutorial! this is great! I'm going to try it. Just purchased all the supplies through your links.
Awesome! Have fun!
There are a few names for those swatches or color indices I've heard a few names. The name I commonly use for them is a colorway. I don't know if that's specific to needle crafts or not (sewing, embroidery, etc.) Sorry I'm so late to the party by the way. Thanks for the great video!
I can't wait to get started!
I need to try this! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
Thank you for all the very close details and camera work. As I experienced with many art mediums I am always on the lookout for good beginner tutorials to direct friends and others less experienced toward.Yours is quite good. No rushing, great close ups and the repetition a first timer finds calming and helpful. Mandala form requires patience, but once mastered the designs are only as limited as ones imagination. Thanks again for putting this up for us....
Thank you very much!
Lydia its marvelous good job
Thank you! This is such a relaxing craft!
Thank you so much. I love your work and so happy you share all your tips along the way. Keep them coming.
With lockdown from the coronavirus, I thought I would like to revisit some my abandoned craft projects and mandalas was 1 of them. I got so frustrated when I initially tried, and upon stumbling upon your tutorial I realise what I was doing wrong. I felt so stupid not being able to accomplish something that looked relatively simple, but your step by step technique walked me through. The first mistake I made was not drawing a frame and the second was not double dipping the dots if I needed to. Thanks a million. Now onwards and upwards🥰
I love this tutoriAL - i WANT TO DO THIS AND WILL BE BACK FOR MORE!!
Sandy
Have so much fun!
Can’t wait to start - I have done tole painting and canvas art with acrylic paint and now need something a little smaller to do and this fits the bill perfectly. Thank you!!
Have fun!
This is awesome. Going to give it a try! Thank you!
I'm really interested in Mandala painting. This was an excellent video. I enjoyed it very much. Great job .
Really found this helpful and will give this another try. But will practice on canvas boards for a short spell first also. Thank you for this lovely tutorial and looking forward to watching more of your tutorials.
Saving to watch again later also
Love these dot Mandela’s. I am going to give it a try. Thank you
THANK YOU LYDIA MAY. I am excited. I wish you would of finished it on camera. I was dying to see it. I can’t wait to check out your other videos!
You, my dear, are an amazing excellent instructor. Thank you so much.
Thank you so very much. That made my day. XOXOX
I am so glad I found your channel. I’ve been wanting to try this art and have watched other videos but you give a better tutorial be far.now I’m a subscriber
Very Cool! Now I know where to begin! Thanks for the video, & yes, more!!
Thank you, I tried this and I love doing it. Need to get some tools. All my crochet tools have round ends.
You had it right..it's a color swatch. You can find them in just about any hardware store or store that sells paints for interior and exterior use..Walmart, even. Here's an idea..use them to put tiny mandalas on, and they'll make great bookmarks, etc.
Beautiful Tutorial ❤️ I finally received my dotting tools and I’m going to try this!! Thanks for a great lesson. Hugs, Judy
Thank you! Your work is so neat and you make it look like fun.
Terrific video and commentary. You really take the time to explain for the newbie and make it less scary for sure. Learning about the tools was very helpful but your extra little tips like not double using so you get even dots was priceless.
Wow. Excellent video. I love the emphasis on not expecting perfection. I've never done this and after watching this, I feel like I could maybe attempt this technique. I will be back for more!
Yes! So important not to expect perfection and to simply enjoy the process. Do give it a go. Let me know what you think! XOXO
I use paint swatch cards from the paint department at Lowe's or Home Depot. There are 4 to 5 color variations on a single color. You can just walk in and pick out a few to keep on hand.
Thank you Lydia! Very helpful beginner lesson, now I’m excited to get started on this relaxing art!
Brilliant tutorial for a complete beginner. Many thanks 🙏❤️
I thank you for this tutorial! I'm just starting this craft and very intrigued. I've been trying to get all the supplies but have had a hard time finding everything. The crochet hooks have a a point at the end . IS THERE A SPECIAL NUMBER OF PAINTS THAT SHOULD BE USED?
I would love more tutorials like this. Thank you for your time and I appreciate your help!!!
Claudette Gulle
You can find everything you need to get started in my Etsy shop. https:/www.etsy.com/shop/dottymandolly There is no special number of colors to use. Just all personal preference.
Lydia May .
Crochet hooks don’t have a point at the non-hook end.
I have a lot of hooks and the ones that had a point on them, I took a couple of nail files made for acrylic nails and just filed it flat. I even did this with some aluminum hooks. I'm sure you could use sandpaper too but I didn't have any. The files worked just fine.
Thank you so much ❤ for sharing this as I was having so much trouble with mandala😅...so Ur video really helped me❣️ thanks alot 😘I feel quie tip very difficult to use I don't why I thing cotton moves that's y my dots get messed up...can u help me with that....and 1 more thing which colour should I use...I m currently using poster paints
Thank you so much for this video I’m a total beginner so this is so helpful as been practising and now I can see not going flat down 👍
Thank you so much!! I am just starting art and crafts so....need all the teaching tutorials I can listen too. Thank you so much, you seem very relaxed as to teach and helps me even more try to do this. Blessings!
What a great tutorial! Had me a little confused when you used the first tool cause I didn't know you were using the opposite end of the crochet needle. This looks like it could be so relaxing to do. Pablo's a little cutie! I'd love to see a video of other kinds of tools or brushes you use.♡
Okay, thank you for your feedback! XOXO
Thanks for being so thorough! I enjoyed your tutorial and am inspired.
Though I m not a beginner anymore but this was a wonderful tutorial...a great service to humanity and perfect example of how you grow when you share....all hearts Lydia❤
Aww, I love this comment. Thank you, Shweta!
You are so AWESOME Lydia...Love my new stencil too
Thank you, very helpful for this raw beginner !!
Thank you for this great beginner's tutorial! I will do this with my dementia care residents this weekend! You answered all the questions about what paints are best, different tools to use and methods. I've already base-painted and traced simple templates for them. We will all have fun and I think they'll be wowed at what they'd done!
Awesome! I would love to see!
This is so way cool always saw didn’t know it was that easy I love been looking for something different to do
Ooo I can’t wait to try & keep going your right not perfect but it’s about the enjoyment
Thank you to give new life to my art..thank you yes I joined your fb group!
Thanks for being so patient! Great tutorial...
So glad I found your video, just starting out and you showed/told me exactly what I was doing wrong with the dowels and I’m SO grateful!! Now I’m going to binge all your other videos. :) Keep making them please!!! I love the way you teach, so simple and easy to follow and your art is so beautiful.
Glad it was helpful!
So you have used all your sizes in your dotting tools, then do you start out again with the small size and do it the same way?
That's another question I have too...? Does it matter if you're going small to larger, vice versa, or whatever fits the style?
Very clear and precise instructions. Thank you!
Definetely this is my first lesson on dot mandala.
Color Wheels are helpful too.😉
Do those paints have a smell? My sister has chemical sensitivity and not tolerant of smells.
An odor like Elmers glue-ish is how I would put it.
I used to do this when I was little, but I didn't know it was "a thing" You're a good teacher. Thanks for your help👍
You were correct - the paint samples are referred to as color swatches - love your stuff, I've been learning a lot from it
They’re called paint swatches and you can find them at any hardware store for free
Go to Pinterest and type in bird color pallettes
This is very helpful. Thanks for showing such detail. I love this form of art. Your tutorials really inspire and help
I love the pacing of your video. And your mixture of calmness and passion is inspiring. Thank you!
I think you mean paint chips at the hardware stores in the paint department?
Lesley Kuhn ;)
"color schemes" You can also look for color palettes.
You can find alot of those on Pinterest too.
Thank you now I see and understand I am ready to paint. God bless you
Omg. Thank you so much for making it easy for us novices. Cant wait to try something more adventurous. Totally hooked already.😁😁
Great tutorial! Love your kind and patient teaching style. Thank you!
Were you trying to say a Color Palette? Sweet Willow Designs suggested colorpalettes.com for inspiration.
YES! THANK YOU! LOL
Lydia May No problem :)
I like to use the Adobe color wheel color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel/
Kelly Richan thank you. The Adobe colour wheel is awesome. x
@Linz9011, that link doesn't work, it diverts to a painting contractor. (Edit - did a spot of Googling & apparently it should be colorpalettes.net Best wishes).
They're called paint chips.
Merci beaucoup ! C'est super ! Je vais essayer.
Thank you so much! This tutorial was very helpful.
Muchas gracias. Excelente tutorial.
