The Lich King's powers came from the Shadowlands. When Kiljaeden created it, he probably made some kind of "channel" that connects the shadowlands and pumps power into the helm of domination. When Silvanas breaks the helm, all that power, that does not belong into this world naturally, just followed its natural path and tried to return to its origin. But it was so much that it broke the veil of reality actually opening the portal; like too much water contained in a dam. That's my explanation.
Imagine Sylvanas now turning into a 4th-Wall-Breaking character, speaking about how the ceiling of the world always bothered her when she flew out of Undercity, straight up, and banged her head against the invisible wall, and now that it's broken, she enjoys her freedom. And how everyone in WoW is controlled by a puppeteer and how she is free now and everything...
Honestly, Sylvanas did Bolvar a favor by destroying the Helm, and freeing him from its corrupting influence, if for nothing else. He's finally free to join up as a Major Character for this expac, and we all know that there wouldn't be such a negative response if Blizz did the safe WoTLK 2.0 that everyone thought was coming
idk if helm was actualy corrupting imo it was just a tool to store souls of the lich king and i also think that bolvar was as much in control as was the lichking, my guess is bolvar was the one dks talked to thats why red but sylvanas fought lichking thats why blue eyes and what were plans for everything that was probably bolvar speaking as well seen all this he became from this hero to something of a not hero

They think Elune disappeared because they went straight to the Maw when they died because of Sylvanas. Otherwise they'd have met with the Arbiter and probably would've ended up with Elune.
4:38 Ice Crown is saturated in the blood of Yogg-Saron, the "God of Death" aka "Fiend of a Thousand Faces" aka "Beast of a Thousand *Maws*" aka "Hope's End" (Hmm... Lots of quotes from Sylvanas about ending hope this expansion... I wonder why?). He was able to create a pathway to the Emerald Dream, so if the Shadowlands is the dark cousin to the Emerald Dream, it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility for him to converge with it. The Frozen Throne was revealed to be a gateway into the Shadowlands. What are the Frozen Throne and ICC forged from? Saronite. I wouldn't be surprised if we found Yogg-Saron causing chaos in the Shadowlands.
My theory is that "by jail" Sylvannas means she doesn't want to live but she also does not desire eternal torment. She just wants to rest and destroy the Maw, then die by hand of us, Champions.
Everyone: It's Arthas. Blizzcon Blizzard: No no no guys, it's a whole new character. You can't even fathom who this new character is! Shadowlands Launch Blizzard: Just kidding. It's Arthas! We fooled you! Psych!
I still enjoy watching these lore videos, the story of Warcraft was incredibly attractive to me while I was growing up. I started playing roughly around the launch of Wrath and played consistently through Mists. With that said, my memories of the franchise are incredibly positive but it saddens me to see the almost unbelievable direction the storyline has taken. Given how the support for the game has regressed over the past few expansions, I hope the new expansion is a drastic improvement no matter my inability to play.
Nobbel, what do you think happens to Ner'Zhul? Is old Orc Shaman and First Lich King powerful enough to have escaped Maw when Helm was split (that is if Helms destruction freed his soul from it or has his influence been carried since Arthas "killed" Ner-Zhul way before?)
Couldn't a story line in the new expansion be that we in some way create a new Helm of Domination for Bolvar so that the now restless undead becomes jailed once more?
Correction, only mortals go there when they die, other beings such as demons still go the the Twisting Nether, beings of Arcane would probably go to some Arcane plane of existence etc.
I don't know if Saurfang would be sorted into Bastion or Maldraxxas. He had a life of service, being loyal to the Horde, and this seems like a Bastion thing, but he's also a relentless, warlike spirit. He never bowed to Sylvanas. This seems to be a Maldraxxas thing. And Garrosh is clearly Maldraxxas :D
So, trying to answer the question "What will the side-story be" retroactively, I would say that each covenant has their own side-story. Ardenweald has the Drust and Ysera, Bastion the Forsaken and Uther, Revendreth with the Light/resistance fighters/nathrezim sneakiness, and Maldraxus with Kel'Thuzad and the Primus.
"There must always be a lich king" i hope that everyone just forgets about that part and when we return to azeroth we see it completely destroyed by the scourge
Actualy the blizzerd said the scoruge are ramging through Azoreth atm.. So We probaly are going to see some invisons and quests going on with around the world just like legion.. And maybe the pre patch would have some citys and zones plagued (thats my hope atleast! )
Why do ppl think that this phrase is being tossed aside or retconed, clearly the fact that the helm has been destroyed and the huge tear in the sky is a testament to the opposite, that this right here is why there must always be a lich king.
@@justinmarzan8599 no its not the reason why there always must be a lich king . Back at WoTk after we beaten arthas we were told arthas holded back the full Might of the scorge form attacking.. its not sure yet is because he was resisting narzhul is it because he was trying to get heros to get his plans.. or Just the generel idea that if he did the game would be over cause we know that if he was doing that the living would have been over runned.. So because of that.. There must always be a lich king ,someone to act as the jailor of the dammed to keep the scoruge inchack else they would just go into a remage and Kill everyone.. Just like they are doing now..since bolver is out.. however its unknown whatever or not the scrouge just splited to branchs as The more intellegnet mioins of the scoruge can take over parts of it.. (like kalthuzzed)
One interesting thing to note: During the Legion questline when helping Anduin around stormwind to then take him to the broken shore and obtain Shalamayne, he states "Since you brought my father's compass back to me, I've prayed to the Light for guidance, and to know his spirit is at rest. The light doesn't answer." I think Varian is also trapped in the Maw and we might run into him during this expansion as well!
Well i think if things goes well in shadowlands or after shadowlands expansion maybe there are no longer scourge. Their will be balance between death and life so no more dead peole coming to life. Just my speculation
Don’t think it’s that simple haha. It shattered the magic which forged it and kept the two different planes separate from each other (in a physical way at least) unless this was a joke haha
4:33 I think It's the first answer because it's probably just choosing that area because of how much there was, not where the power came from, because it would explain why Bolvar, of all people, would be the one who came back to life instead of the hundred others, it knock some sense in Ner'zul and making him realize that he's become a pawn of the jailer and realize his crown became the only thing separating the Shadowlands (therefore, the jailer) from Azeroth.
People wonder about Blizzard seemingly retconning the statement about the fact that there must always be a Lich King or the scourge would rampage across all Azeroth. Well I have my own thoughts about that. Seems to me like the one giving Slyvanas her power has a link to the helm of the Lich King or more accurately: the power within the Helm. If you look at the helm the prisoner (The Jailer) is wearing you’ll see it resembles the Lich King helm so for all we know, the helm may have been a conduit that removed and trapped part of his power in it, thus keeping him trapped as well as bestowing the essence of his corrupting power upon whoever wore it. So now that the helm is broken his power returns and barrier to the realm he’s imprisoned in breaks. As for the scourge it may be that they are only a threat so long as the prisoners power remains in our world without someone to control and direct it or restrain it, depending on the wearers intentions and willpower. Now the power returns to its source leaving the creatures in thrall to the previous bearers as little more than husks and bones. Just a theory.
The Lich King drew upon the necrolords? Sounds like a retcon, cause the Lich King used the NERUBIANS as the basis for his architecture. Then again, this entire expansion is a retcon.
Given Genn and Sylvanas's history there is one soul I'm curious to see show up, possibly in Bastion or the Maw. Genn's son Liam. Since Legion he's been brought up a few times (the Stormheim cinematic, the discussion with Jaina's mother to try and save her daughter). It would definitely be a nice closer to Genn's story, especially if his tale possibly comes to an end with the next expansion.
I think the bargain of Sylvanas was definitely before Teldrasill (therefore before BfA) because Ion specifically said that "Sylvanas is doing a lot of stuff that would produce the biggest amount of dead" with the picture of burning teldrasill on the presentation...I think Saurfang is indeed in the Maw together with all the souls from Teldrasill and BfA casualties, which induced the problematic growth of the Maw that was mentioned by Ion as well.
Uther, Kaelthas, Garrosh, Gromm, Cenarius, Variann, Anduin (original), Arthas, Broxigar, Saurfang, Cairne, Terenas, Medivh, Aegwynn, Guldan, Nerzhul, Drekthar, Orgrim, Durotan, Vajsh, Deathwing, even Azshara possibly? The list of fallen characters who we may get to see again is very exciting.
Question; Could The Lich King be the Avatar of this Jailer? Just like the Avatar of Sargeras but for the Jailer instead. I mean, the Lich King is afterall called "The Jailer of the Damned". Maybe there's some sort of hint there. Although, gameplay cinematic, he speaks of how he failed his job and getting a look at the Jailer, Bolvar says something like "Within the realm of shadows...lies the darkest of terrors...which should never be set free." So maybe not. Any thoughts?
lich king was made by kil'jaeden by enchanting a spirit of an orc shaman ner'zul into a set of armor(including the helm) to weaken azeroth defenses before the legion invasion in wc3
@@SousukeAizen421 Yes, but obviously, it feels weird if he just did this randomly placing the Frozen Throne right underneath the tower in the Shadowlands etc. To me, it seems information has been left out purposefully. Maybe Sargeras knew about the Shadowlands and intended for Kil'Jaeden to do it this precise way for some weird reason, we don't know yet. Maybe the helm and everything was crafted just so the Jailer could have a footing on the plane of Azeroth or some shizz. /shrug
@@astralogion3296 I'd imagine it was something along the lines of Kil'Jaeden being aware that Icecrown was a strategic location to place The Lich King due to its Shadowlands connection, but the personal ambition of Arthas meant it wasn't fully untilized as he just wanted to dominate Azeroth with The Scourge. However, Bolvar has been trying to keep The Scourge under control so has probably been looking into the power beyond just controlling a vast undead army, so we'll find out soon what he knows about the whole situation!
5:36 this gem in the Helm of domination will play a role in the future, I feel it! btw hate idea of destroying these artifacts, most known items of WoW

BTW, if you guys noticed, the helmet still has the stone in it. Sylvannas didnt break the stone. Only the helmet. So I bet there will be a quest to Fix the helmet and restore balance. Mages will keep the portal open for us to visit shadow lands as usual.
So my take is that the Helm of Domination and Icecrown itself, were/are specifically designed to create this "anchor," as a necessary part of granting the Lich King his power. Just part of the recipe Kil'jaeden used to create the ability to effortlessly raise and control an entire army of undead.

All the ones that fall under the category "wild gods" were born in Freya's gardens, but what about Mueh'zala? Although, apparently Blizzard has clarified that the shadow creature behind Sylvanas in the trailer is just some new, random Death thing we haven't heard of before.
Nobble, You know more than any of us that the REASON why Blizzard brought out the Shadowlands is because they ran out of content. The Shadowlands weren't suppose to have any part of WoW story. Its a realm that no one has heard of till it was mention in one of those cosmology map that blizzard reveal a few years back.
One thing that puzzles me still is the fact that the Shadowlands runs off of Anima. ... Hadn't we heard that term somewhere before? Seen that substance put to use? I'm referring to the Mogu. Lei Shen learned of anima and created the Animus boss we fight in the Throne of Thunder raids. Lor'themar then gained some of said animus constructs for his own which he and his forces managed to fuel via blood magic. Is this the same "anima" that the Shadowlands works off of? And considering that all manner of creatures possess it, much like blood in one's veins, could that also mean certain creatures have more quantity/potency? (Largely remembering Ra'den and his seeping wounds...)
Blizzard and their retcons, her own inner monologue from BTS doesn't even match up with the story they are trying to do in the expansion and it's kinda annoying watching people trying to justify it. Let's not forget the fact that Blizzard reduced the wow chronicles to a bit of toilet paper.

I hope they hire Nobbel for voice actor for the Jailer.

Ardenweald is such a nice zone, it'll be my permanent hangout spot for all of Shadowlands.
Maybe the jailer is Yogg-Saron in another form? Hmm interesting
My theory is that "by jail" Sylvannas means she doesn't want to live but she also does not desire eternal torment. She just wants to rest and destroy the Maw, then die by hand of us, Champions.

There’s this underrated game called Little Nightmares that has a place named The Maw, I thought their purpose is the same in WoW.
it’s a great game.
Nobbel cracked the code.
The Jailer is really Mickey Mouse.
Sylvanus soloing the Lytch King is basically any one of us taking our max level toons and fighting a level 80 Artus while we're at 120.
Couldn't a story line in the new expansion be that we in some way create a new Helm of Domination for Bolvar so that the now restless undead becomes jailed once more?
Maybe but he should at least give Taelia a hug first :)
Correction, only mortals go there when they die, other beings such as demons still go the the Twisting Nether, beings of Arcane would probably go to some Arcane plane of existence etc.
The way Nobbel says Shadowlands.
"The ShadowlAAAndsss" :D
I don't know if Saurfang would be sorted into Bastion or Maldraxxas. He had a life of service, being loyal to the Horde, and this seems like a Bastion thing, but he's also a relentless, warlike spirit. He never bowed to Sylvanas. This seems to be a Maldraxxas thing.
And Garrosh is clearly Maldraxxas :D

Aren't the Shouderpads Arthas' old shoulders? They look almost identical
No the lich king corruption creates armor on ure body
No, its very similar but not the same
People wonder about Blizzard seemingly retconning the statement about the fact that there must always be a Lich King or the scourge would rampage across all Azeroth.

Question;
Could The Lich King be the Avatar of this Jailer?
